[Q] U after ICS update - painfully slow and no 3G - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Since I manually updated to ICS, my Xperia U makes me go crazy. It's absolutely non-responsive. Sometimes it takes 2 minutes to launch an app. Or clicking into a text field, I have to wait 10-20 seconds for the keyboard to appear. Other times it works just fine.
I couldn't figure out if it was one of the apps doing it. Their CPU usage seems to be normal.
I usually have around 30 MB of RAM available. Is that too little ?
Also, 3G doesn't work. I changed my APN, but I still can't connect. I'm on O2 UK, contract. Changed APN to mobile.o2.co.uk. Tried to set 'web' PW and login and tried with both empty.

Do a factory reset
Regards
Dr. Sanket

Regarding the No 3g Signal and all, which version of Firmware did you flash and do you have ST25i or ST25a ? If you flashed the wrong baseband, 3G wont work. You need to reflash baseband from a compatible ftf in case the first flash mismatched !
30mb RAM is quite low, highly unusual. Try a factory reset. And if nothing else, try a custom ROM. If you want something based on Stock Sony, try out my rom or TinyXperia Lite by Thunderising Otherwise, CM9 and MIUI threads are also there
Hope it helps
Cheers

Thread moved. Please post your questions here in Q&A in future.
Thanks
AvRS

I did a factory reset, but 3G still doesn't work.
I have 25i.
I'm not keen on the Sony ROM. I would love to install CM, but I can't unlock the bootloader, so I guess I'll have to cope with it.

Hm... Did you install 6.1.1.B.1.54 firmware ? This sounds like a case of Baseband mismatch. Flash the 6.1.1.C.1.0 f/w available here (DONT exclude Baseband) and see if your 3G gets fixed with that And check out FireDroid by Atis. Its a CM9 on Stock kernel. Although dev has stopped for now,it works fine I believe
Let me know if you need any help
Cheers

Yes, I have the 6.1.1.B.1.54 version.
Is there anyone here who had the same issue and fixed it without flashing ?
I'm going to wait until tomorrow and then try the other firmware, but it would be nice if I could fix without needing to reset all my settings and stuff.

Yeah

Do you have GSM/WCDMA set in Mobile Networks ? and proper 3g apn ? It might be different from the 2g one ? Also, you did get it before the update right ?

I tried all 3 options (WCDMA/GSM/both)
I set up the APN according to what I found on the official o2 uk site (they only mention the APN, which is mobile.o2.co.uk, I left the rest unset/default)
It was working fine before the update.

try ur sim on another phone for the 3g coz maybe ur sim has some problem

Hey dude just contact customer care i also did this and now it's working like charm
Sent from my Xperia U using Tapatalk 2

Yup, that's what I did. I went to o2 and ask them to take a look at it. It was the APN settings.
The speed issue kinda disappeared. It still gets laggy, but now I have "kill tasks" button, which instantly solves the lags.
Thanks for the replies.

The phone is still awfully slow and it's super annoying. This must be a software issue.

[PLEASE HELP] X10i restart itself when connect to 3G

Hi,
I found my X10i is always restart itself everytime it connected to 3G network (can use only 2G/EDGE), I'm try to look for similar threads in this forum and other forum but not found the solution,
Can anyone here help me pls
Thanks in advance.
Need more info. Are you on stock ROM or custom? are you using a custom kernel? how exactly does it happen? is it when it switches from wifi to 3g or just when 3g engages? what exactly is the circumstance that causes it? this kind of info is necessary to help diagnose your problem.

I use Stock Rom
- FW#2.1.1.A.0.6
- Baseband 2.1.58
- Kernel Version 2.6.29
The problem occur when I swith from 2G (EDGE/GPRS) to 3G (900Hz). It's can run for awile then if I or some program connet to 3G the machine will not respond anymore then it restart itself. Now I can use only 2G
My X10i didn't have any accident like fallen, Normally use only.
You might just want to install a custom ROM or try a reflash. I don't know what would cause your phone to reboot just from connecting to 3g like that. I haven't heard of this happening before but I will say that using custom ROMs is easier than you'd think and you can always flash back if you need the warranty. Its impossible to brick the X10 under most circumstances so don't be intimidated. The custom ROMs are real stable now and have nearly full functionality and features and are fully supported. If you decide to go custom you'll be blown away with the improvement and will wonder why you didnt do it sooner. I flashed my 60yo dad's X10 to Wolfbreaks ROM and all he keeps saying is "this is so much better" and he couldn't care a whole lot less about his phone

Tks u so much !
I suggest u to using fw 2.1 bb67 global generic, coz this problem happening to me too. Its work for me. Now im using 2.1 bb 67 on stock ROM.
After flash fw 2.1 bb 67, install no-frill and set cpu max to 768mhz to keep your cpu and battery not to hot.
But your device maybe still got random reboot if your cpu work to hard, like playing game.
Please remember, keep your cpu to not work hard and battery not become heat.
Edit:
Custom rom/kernel dosent help for me. Unlock/lock bootloader still dosent solve my problem, just downgrade and kept cpu+battery not too hot.
Its looks hapening because some parts, maybe cpu or signal chip getting weaks.

[Q][Ray] Phone reboots when signal is low or in flight mode

Hi,
I've been having this problem on my Xperia ray since I bought it. The phones runs smooth and with no problems. However, once I get into an area with a weak signal or once I place the phone on flight mode, it goes into an endless reboot cycle until I turn off flight mode or get a strong signal.
I initially thought that this would be a rom problem, but I've experienced it on CM7 and Stock. I thought it might be an issue with 4.0.2.A.0.42, but even downgrading to 4.0.1.A.0.283 wouldn't solve it.
I'm attaching the last_kmsg from the last reboot hoping someone could help.
Thanks in advance,

Go to settings - wireless and network - mobile network - network mode and choose WCDMA(pref)/GSM to solve your problem
And yes get latest firmware for your Ray it would be "4.0.2.A.0.58"
This will also help to solve your problem
If you are using custom kernel then get Krsh Kernal for Ray
And don't use any battery saver software like Juice defender they play with networks...
Enjoy !
Hit thanks button if it works ....
Thanks for the reply,
I've been using "GSM Only" to avoid network switching. Shall I still change to CDMA preferred?
I also had the reboots when I tested the radio from the .58 firmware, but I'll try to flash the the full firmware tonight.
I can't seem to find krsh kernal for Ray, seems to be available to every other Xperia other than the Ray, do you have the link?

I don't have link for now but if Ray has got KrSH kernal then i will send you link soon ...
And GSM network uses 2G signals ... keep it WCDMA (pref)/GSM so that you can get 2G and 3G signals both...
And .58 firmware is stable .. go for full flash to solve problem
.58 is not really meant for Xperia ray but it will probably work just fine. It's meant for Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro and Live with Walkman.
Try using the phone with a different SIM card just to see if this makes any difference. Since it seems to be network related it might work. The newer card, the better.
If you're not possible to get hold of another SIM card, try to disable the PIN lock and see if there's any improvement.
We're currently rolling out a new software (.6x). This one will improve the memory management which should avoid reboots. Might be what you need. Check if you can get it (we just started the roll out so all cannot get it just yet).

Stock firmware is not the problem,
ok the last thing i could tell you is try to find out background processes and uninstall those software that are not important and runs in background
for that go to
Settings-Application-Management-running and see background unwanted non system processes
Also try scanning and cleaning SD card or replace it with new one or format it and try it fresh, make backup before you format sd card
If this doesn't solve your problem then show your Ray to nearest service center....
Dear slimfady wat u can try now is that SE has released a new firmware For Ray try to update it to new firmware and see if problem goes or not.
Good Luck..

After 5 days with the new firmware, I can say that the problem has been resolved. I haven't got any reboot yet. Only downside is that the new firmware can't be rooted yet.
I would like to know whether the fix was in the new radio or the new kernel. I'll try different combos after running with the .62 firmware for a while
Reboot new firmware
Hey, I'm on O2 and I have the same problem!
I've read that uninstalling McAffee may help, so thats what I've done today. I've also switched back to GSM (G2) this helps enormously with battery life (I can can 7 days without charge), no reboots yet since I've done this.
I've had the same reboot problem on the previous firmware build and the latest.
The other thing that I and others have noticed is the problem also seems to happen when the signal drops out or is very weak. SE need to get to the bottom of this before they bring out ICS for the RAY.
P.S. just checked phone, rebooted while in pocket, I don't know how much business I,m losing cos of this, I'll have to take the SIM card lock off...... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
The newest firmware solves the rebooting problem. Just update your phone and you are fine.

[Q] Frequent wifi disconnect even after official ICS DDLP8

I've had no luck with wifi ever since I started trying out ICS builds.
So far I've restricted myself to leaked official builds. The phone just can't hold onto a damn wifi signal even when kept right next to the bloody access point.
Every few minutes it disconnects. Sucks when you're trying to download a huge update for a game.
I don't know if there's an official build out for India, I'm using DDLP8 which was marked as for Nepal. It's definitely stable, but wifi connectivity is totally useless .
I use Wifi Analyzer, and it shows up signal strength as pretty good, using automatic channels, and usually it latches onto channel 11 or 13. My other devices at home have never faced any such problem so it's definitely not a router problem.
Is there anything else to check for?
Edit: I'm using XXLPQ, not DDLP8 (which is the baseband version). My bad.
not familiar of ddlp8 as cant find it as sammobile / intratech
why dont you skip the leaked firmwares and just use the official ones.
also complete wipe your phone flash a GB stock and dont do anything else ...., no root no restores and see if it hold wifi.

It appears DDLP8 is a modem/baseband version. Not the build version. That's why you couldn't find it. But I'm just guessing. OP will have to confirm or deny that.

Yes, you're right. I am using XXLPQ for Nepal, after reading that the official Nepal build works fine on the Indian version of the S2. Sammobile still does not show any official build for India. Does this make a difference?
I saw the problem moments after I had flashed the ROM and rebooted, i.e. with a clean phone set to factory defaults (and rooted) - so I doubt it's due to any other program interfering.

Wifi drivers are in the kernel, I believe. What method did you use to root? Did you flash a kernel to achieve root? Try flashing a new kernel, or flashing a stock ICS kernel and see if your Wifi still drops after that.
Well, you can also give a try by flashing your baseband/modem itself and see it will be any better. You have few ones in this topic, all flashable via CMW :

Ok, thanks for your links mate, at least i ve learned something. So, he can also give a try by testing different kernels then.
still having issues, you have to do some work..... flashing kernels is not the solution! it should work as is!
1: using cwm format system, cache, data, dalvik
2: flash one of the newer GB Stock Roms get one from intratech, using odin.
3: dont root just see if it works without doing anything, keep it stock. no restores nothing
if it works, it will work on ICS too now.

Well, if you re-read some of the posts above, he said he rooted, but didn't say HOW he rooted. If he rooted by flashing a kernel, then that could be what is screwing with his wifi, depending on WHICH kernel he used. So flashing a different kernel MAY actually solve his problem.
To my experience this problem is most likely related to the kernel you are using. The latest siyah kernel supposingly rectifies this issue. Why dont you give it a try?
I did and saw a big difference...

Can't Save APN Settings RemICS Rom

Hello. I have a Samsung Vibrant and I just flashed RemICS rom and it looks great. The only problem is that I cannot seem to get my internet settings back in. I go to mobile networks, select add new apn, put in the apn settings, then click save. Then it returns me to a blank apn list. I reboot and go back to see if it is in the list and it's not. I've tried this three times and for some reason it won't save my apn settings. Anyone know how I can fix this?
Thanks.
The issue might be due to the fact that Remics currently has an issue with baseband and I believe imei as well. They are working on a new base for their ROM. Try a different jb rim and see if it works. * if you flash hellybean use 0817 build not 0820.

Just to be clear, did you flash the ICS version, or the JB version?
As samsgun mentioned, the JB rom currently has some issues that will be resolved soon enough, but for now leaves you without any data connection. If, however, you flashed the ICS version (Which I am currently running, and love) we can try and get down solving your problem. But before we figure out what to fix, we have to know what we are working with ^^

I flashed the JB version. I didn't see the ICS version. I also flashed HellyBean the 820 version and same issue. Someone above said the 817 version might work. I really love the rom but I need data because I'm out and about a lot and need to get my work emails while Im out. I'm going to donate cause the rom is great and such hard work went into it. I think ill try the ICS version until the data is working for the JB version.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll report in after I falsh the ICS version.

That's two jb ROMs that will mess up baseband remics and hellybean 0820, thus the reason I said flash 0817 build.
All should be fine with remics ICS. It is an outstanding ROM!

Strange. I flashed Remics ICS version and now my APN settings are there and are correct, yet when I attempt to access the internet it says "Access is not allowed for this user agent" So now I still can't access the internet lol.

I messed around with the user agent settings and now it's working. I just set it to desktop to see if that would make a difference and it did lol. I have no idea why tho lol.

Ye, that's a common problem ^^; I was about to tell you to mess with the user agent in the settings and it should work, but you got to it first aha

Hey guys,
I've been struggling with the same problem for weeks now. It doesn't matter what I do, the APNs settings won't save unless I flash back to an older ROM. Below I've listed some of the stuff I tried:
- Reboot the device multiple times
- Disable/enable flight mode and reboot
- Switch to "3G" only and back
- Add APN and wait a few minutes before saving
- Add APN and use back button instead of menu option to save
- Fix permissions under CWM
- Reinstall the ROM
- Flash other custom ROMs
- Flash other kernels
- Flash other modems
- Flash new ROM over working ROM without doing wipe/factory reset to keep settings
- Flash ROM without SIM and SD card
- Manually populating preferred-apn.xml
- Deleting telephony.db
- Confirm that telephony.db gets populated correctly
- Confirm that my sp settings are in apns-conf.xml
- Copied apns-conf.xml from known working ROM
- Use "APN Backup & Restore"
I even checked the logs while trying to add APN settings and found the following error: "Failed setting numeric 'null' to the current operator". It comes from a file called "TelephonyProvider.java", but I haven't made any progress with it.
I'm going to kick myself if the solution ends up being something as simple as fiddling with the user agent settings. But I'm not quite sure how this affects the system APN settings, do you perhaps know?
FYI, I actually have a Galaxy S2 and already posted in the S2 forums, but no luck yet. So I'm trying every possible solution that I can find. I also have a replacement SIM on its way, but it will take about 3 days to arrive.
I actually got the network in remics working but I had to flash a different kernel I told (patrick)or who ever is it that maintain that rom here, I couldnt get sound or camera but as of the network and apns it was running good...

Mobile network problem when flashing ROM

Heya all i have a question and a problem for few days allready now i just flashed RootBox-JB-i9100-Nightly-20130624.zip and i do not have network connection anymore , i also had this problem on cm10.1, only rom that worked was RootBox-JB-i9100-V4.0.zip , i have tried to restore efs with efs pro still nothing, when i try to search for network in sistem it say error searching for networks, i have sgs2 network is Orange Romania...also tryed *#*#4636#*#* this code and at network i cant check smt else then unknown. anyone pls helpe i allready got gray hair cos of this ..)
Soo, i have tryed every single rom on www with build date 2013.06 ++ and on any single one mobile network is not working i get the same message when i try to search for network "error when searching network" i have tryed all methodes i could find on net : galaxsim unlock, efs backup, efs backup on pc,efs backup and restore with Ktoll app, i extacted efs files from a nandroid backup, i matched ril with getril, flashed diferent kernels, flashed diferent modem's, went into sistem debug, changed sim, changed network provider. all of this had the same result NO NETWORK :S.then i went for flashing roms with build date 2013.05.++ and they are all working network is working on them soo it seems this month builds are not for my nob phone.
Still if anyone see this and have another solution i am all ears. Thanks and gl

Done :S
And this only happens with rootbox? What does the rootbox thread guys said?
Sent from the little guy
It happens with rootbox, cyanogenmod, paranoidandroid, super nexus, every single rom build 2013.06.++ the roms with date above 2013.06 are working

That's weird, you should wait for a user who knows his way around custom ROMs.
What I would do is to perform as many EFS back ups as I could, placing them both in internal sd & external sd.
I think this is about trial & error, but then again what the hell do I know.

What carrier /country are you with? Is it possible that there are no APN's that come with the latest ROM's which give you connectivity? That's a huge long shot, but I can't thing of anything else sorry. You've tried all I would normally suggest.

even mine when i use AOSP (Carbon ROM in my case) the network will just suddenly drop off and it doesn't come back even after reboot/toggling airplane mode but i dual booted with a samsung rom and just rebooted to that it was working then! any idea why the network will just stop working?? any fix for this!?
Carrier is Orange , country Romania, baseband I9100PBVLP , and if its no apn set what shall i do??
Sent from Maniac`s GT-I9100
ok , i reflashed RootBox-JB-i9100-V4.1, i set apn to original one, and now after reboot i get signal for 3-5 seconds then i lose it again, in phone status i see signal strenght is normal network carrier unknown, network tipe unknown, restored efs again, i am soo angry right now cos i am unable to find the origin of this prolemno matter what i try, i go in Settings>>More>>Mobile Networks>>Network Operators ,when i click it it say Erroe while searching for networks and if i click Choose Automaticaly it says Cannot connect to this network right now. Try again later.....and again after reboot i get the network working for 5 seconds, i see carrier and all then it disapare and get status unknown, somehow the rom cacnot stick to the network or somehow i get kicked from the network...
I think its the universal ril that cm released. I'm on pac26/6 and has pants sig. Same as rootbox and pa3.60. If I go to stock custom like neat. I have no problems at all. Sig is better "2bars" better. Only difference is the ril.
and how do i change or flash a stock one on the custom rom?? i may ask some nob question cos i rooted phones 1st time few days ago and dont know much, thanks

Thought he was on rootbox v4.1. go to stock custom say neat, alliance. They have no problems with sig. Iv bin on all the good Roms in past week and custom 4.2.2 sig has changed for the worst. I thought it mite be sig in my area but its not nothing to do with masts or mobile network. This is what makes me think ril. Btw op don't flash ril/modem on custom Roms or bye bye imei
Also don't use get ril its not working.
