5.0 Kernel/ROM/Odin Help - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Skip to second paragraph for main problem, Third for main question
I am so hungry to get my hands on ICS, and I will do anything to get a rom, but not sacrifice my camera. So for a while a was literally switching back and fourth between stock rom and paranoid android (4.0.4) just to take a picture. But recently, I tried out ICS Crumble, based on AOKP, and I switched back because it was the slowest and buggiest rom I have used on any device, even when I tried other AOKP roms.
So I switched back to Paranoid android via CWM Recovery, but usually I use ROM Manager, since it back ups the stock rom automatically, but I was mad so I used CWM Recovery, and forgot to do a backup...So I tried flashing the stock rom, and pre-rooted version of the stock rom, but all it says is "Installing update, Installation aborted". I am wondering: where to find 2.3.6 odin update (I tried searching, no luck), if I can download a 4.0.4 kernel along with my 4.0.4 rom to get the camera back, or how do I get the camera back.
The main question is: HOW DO I GET THE CAMERA BACK, THAT IS ALL I WANT AND NEED. If I can't, well you now know a Galaxy Player is up for sale, and I will just get myself a Nexus 4 off ebay (only place you can get it). And please reply, Ieft this out of the Q&A since my other questions gone unreplied, depsite all the view the've got, if I can't get it back, just tell me, the iphone will come into your house and rob you if you dont....

I'm no expert at this, but only a gingerbread ROM would get your camera to work. I recommend flashing this custom ROM. and flashing the correct kernel.

Flash chip rom..its closest look to ICS ..all other like ICS keyboard ,ICS camera and so on you can download from market

Keep in mind that using the ICS camera app, that there is no zoom-in / zoom-out function. The Galaxy player 5 does not support it.

What do you mean by that

[Q] [ROM] Batista70 ROM by SnakeS

I'm not allowed to reply in the development forum, do i have to do this here.
I flashed this Rom two times. The first time everything worked well. Then I tried an other Rom. After a short test i wanted to switch back to this Rom (full wipe, flash two times...), but the camera stops working.
So i reverted to an rooted stock rom and tried this one again. But the camera doesnt work.
I'm not sure, i think on my first try i had an unsigned kernel (yellow triangle on startupscreen). Could this be an course for camera problems?
Greetz
No.. i dont think insecure kernel has anything to do with it/..i had problems with that rom too..flashed twice..but mms kept crashing..i would wait for a update to fix those bigs before using that rom
Is my eyes playing tricks or has this ROM just disappeared from the Galaxy S II Original Android Development forum?
Anyone care to share what happened?
There is allready a thread about this, tl;dr version.
The rom used a kernel without providing source code this breaching the gpl, so it was taken down.

[q] (question) can i downgrade form ics in sgs2 safetly?

Hi every to every one i recently upgrade my SGS2 to ICS 4.0.3 but i found it full of bugs, i mean a lot, (by the way wait until the official release from samsung, thas my opinion) like the non data network miss
My question is, is it safe to downgrade the Phone to GINGERBREAD?
Gosh i love this page
Yes its safe, just make sure to properly install a Gingerbread rom. Next time, just make a backup before installing a new rom so thats its easier to revert back to old rom.
By properly you mean official? Also any gingerbread like 2.3.6? And not the phone stock firmware.

You can check if you have made a back up by going into Rom Manager, manage and restore backups, have a check in their. If you have made a back up the just restore using that back up.
The CWM just gave me the finger XD i do a clean install of the ICS just in case but dont occurred to me to do a backup

search on the original android dev forum in here for the stock roms, download whatever you want to downgrade and flash with odin you will be back to GB 2.3.6 or lower if you want to

You will need a stock kernel to go with that as well
yeah its save i did it too.

When will we not need to revert to ICS to flash AOSP or CM10

I'm asking as the S3 has been upgraded to JB firmware. I don't really want to go back to XXBLG8 to flash either CM10 or an AOSP like SuperNexus.
Reason for asking here, I didn't want to repeat the question on two or more threads
Never because the modem in, for example supernexus, isn't compatible with the S3, which is why when we upgrade from ICS to AOSP it doesn't flash a modem.

Not to confuse you and/or others......But I managed to install and get AOSP running without the need to roll back to ICS whatsoever. Installed directly from CM10 nightly. Stock ICS->Rooted/CM10->AOSP->CM10 Wifi,Sync and Mobile Data worked fine without hiccups. The only reason why i flashed back to CM10 was that I feel CM10 is much better with updates rolled out almost everyday.
The answer to your question is..... when we all use Siyah Kernel

LG Thrive P-506 Root,CWM, Flashing guide

OK, i notice the lg thrive has been long foregoten by LG and us, so i decided to post my root guide here, this should work for most phones with a few modifications, but the lg thrive is a very, very problematic phone so...
ASSUMING YOU ARE STILL ON STOCK 2.2.1 FROYO
1. ROOT
Download super-one-click one click root program from short-fuse here : http://shortfuse.org/?p=193
Then, if you have not already downloaded the Android SDK, download it from android here : http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
once it is installed, go to C:/program files (if windows pick the one with the bits x64 or what ever) / android / tools / ddms.bat
the ddms.bat is a small debugging and screenshoting program. Run it, now go to your phone, go to apps, development, android debugging.
Then find super one click, run it, then plug your phone in. DDMS and SOC should recognize your device, if you have the proper drivers installed already. If their are no drivers installed, go to the lg website and download the update tool, and it will help you download the drivers.
Once your device is recognized, simply hit ROOT on soc.
wait, wait...wait...........wait....DONE!
after a reboot you should have a super user app in your app drawer.
2. CLOCK WORK MOD RECOVERY
from the android market, download Rom Manager by clockwork mod. Once it is installed, go to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Scroll down the list and find LG P500 old BB, This is old baseband. If you updated your phone to 2.3 GingerBread (some how?!) you are probably on new basband, please check. If you are running 2.3 and you are not rooted and you update "officially", get the new bb version.
once you pick LG P500 Old BB (or new, new will not work on 2.2.1 froyo, and should not work on an lg thrive) just wait for the recovery to install. once it is installed, pull your battery out of your phone, or shut it down, how ever you want to, and then press in this order and hold - Home, Volume Up, Power, and HOLD IT TILL YOU SEE SOMETHING NEW. This will be the recovery logo, looking like the Rom manager app icon. Let go once you see it. Now you have a list of things such as reboot system, back up and restore, wipe data/factory reset etc. To navigate, use volume up and down buttons to go up and down, menu as ok, and back button for back. go to back up and restore, and pick backup, and just wait for it to back up your stock rom, so if anything EVER goes wrong, you have your back up to go to, it backs up what walpaper you are using, your kernel, your apps, emails, passwords, EVERYTHING so haha.
Once it is backed up, hit reboot system. It will boot up your phone normaly. For roms to try out, go to argue4android.blogspot.com i have a few lists laying around there with kernels and roms. you put the kernels and roms on the ROOT of your sd card, that means no folders, nothing, just right their.
Now, usually, a rom will not work on the lg thrive because it is still on old baseband, their is not way to update it, or technically no safe way so every rom you will have to flash a kernel that fixes it and some roms do not work with this kernel. ( when you flash your first rom you will see) DO NOT USE CyanogenMod 7 roms, ever, they dont work on the lg thrive. The only gingerbread rom that works is Oxygen. their are some unstable ics cm9 roms but the best is the lg thrive cm10 jelly bean 4.1.2 rom by rashed also on my blog (no kernel needed).
To flash a rom, go to recovery, go to install zip from sd/install zip from sd/ROM.Zip (or gapps.zip or kernel.zip or batteryfix.zip)
wait, and it will install, reboot, you will see that you have BIG color issues, this is because of baseband and stock .32 kernel. That is why you need the .35 kernel. The kernel you will be using for just about every new baseband lg optimus one rom is attached bellow called p505 stock old baseband bla bla bla .zip.
flash it if you have color issues on a rom, most gb, and ics roms need it but gb does not work unless you are using oxygen. so its eather gb oxygen or rashed97's cm10 jelly bean rom specifically for the lg thrive.
------------------------------------
UPDATE
Rashed97 now has a cm10.1 Rome that works better than cm10
Not the greatest guide... for starters you really shouldn't be recommending cm10 jelly bean 4.1.2 rom by rashed or any jb roms for that matter. They are still way too buggy and have horrible battery drain. On both the p505 and p506 there are plenty of perfectly working ics roms. If you are claiming those to be unstable compared to the jb ones I am not sure what you have been doing.
1. It is much easier to root stock froyo using gingerbreak found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
2. You are recommending an old kernal without a source. The best kernal for the p505/p506 can be found here and works with just about everything. http://d-h.st/users/_Arjen_/?fld_id=3117#files
3. There is an old baseband fix that works here and is very simple to do. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963815&highlight=baseband
As far as I fan see, you don't have an lg thrive...I tried everything on my 2 thrives and that method is the only one that works, the kernel is a stock GB kernel that will fix base hand issues. Rasheds job build is stable and everything works fine even Google now so... I got personal experience. Thanks anyway but...

Although the p505 and 506 are similar, they r not really the same. As far as base band. And really, I know the p506 not 505, so go start your own thread about the Phoenix.

THANK YOU!!! (plus a few questions please) THANKS
Thank you for this guide. My first and successful ROM install! I've never used a "bone" stock version of Android, it runs so smooth and looks so nice on this old P506. So far everything works (except for a few things in camera like video playback and time lapse; one or two other things).
I had no color issues nor changed baseband - i flashed the rom with clockwork and everything looked and ran fine on the first reboot.
Instead of using the links kindly provided by you and aion, i went with what I think is Rashed97's "official" downloads at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1811325
LG Thrive (P506): January 8: Build 7/Final
My p506 "about phone" shows baseband v11 now, just as Rashed97's thread says it should.
Did I do it wrong?
Should I try again and this time use your p505 old baseband rom?
And if so, does one flash that one first and then also flash Rashed's version?
Do older versions of cm have more complete functionality? (however they would be older OS's but I might be ok with that).
Either way, if the camera is the only fail, I am thinking it's not a deal breaker. SO AGAIN - TTTHHHHHAANNNNKKKK YYYYOOOOUUUUU for this helpful guide and being one of the VERY few tech-heads out there who is supporting the p506 crowd! (the other p5xx models got a lot more support from their carriers and had a lot more owners) This poor little workhorse got very little love from the public and ZERO love from AT&T! But it served me soooo well for years!

You are welcome, I've moved on to my new HTC first with Rashed.
Um, you could use the latest Jenkins builds, Rashed makes those too, just make sure you do get the p506 version. Android 4.4 will never run on our phone so...
Good luck

Flashing back to stock

I couldn't seem to find the answer to this searching the forums. do I need to use odin to flash back to stock? or can I just flash the stock rom via custom recovery? I apologize if this has been answered but like I said I could not find the answer.
thanks
Joe
Top thread in the Development section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207
I read through that thread... the question I have is if its possible to flash with using custom recovery or must i use odin to flash the stock rom... That thread just tells you how to use Odin ...
You could flash a stock ROM, but it will still be rooted. The only way to fully go back to stock is to use Odin and then Triangle Away.
thanks!! that was all i wanted to know. i still want to be rooted but thinking of going back to stock rom... i have tried a few roms and don't seem to get great battery life as i did with stock. I love CM 10 but I use the s-note feature constantly throughout the day and miss having it.

There's lots of cool ROM's similar to stock such as Clean, Tweaked, JellyButter, and Beans. If you want to retain stock features use touchwiz ROM's not AOSP ones such as CM.
If you click the link in my sig, there's a list of all ROM's for our phone, separated into Touchwiz and AOSP categories. If you just want a rooted stock ROM, use the one called "Stock/Root/DeOdex SCH-I605VRAMC3".

Use GMD s-pen control ( paid app but worth it) and papyrus. That's what I use and it works perfectly. You lose the ability to do math problems with s-note, but you gain customization and gestures. Works quite well together IMO.

Just use recovery to flash a stock rom...beans has a stock vramc3 .zip rom posted in the dev section. Going back to stock via Odin is only needed if you are returning the device or soft bricked.
cool... Thanks everyone for the help. I have been messing with android phones forever but have had a hard time finding the best rom for the note. i will play around a little more tonight and see what one I like best before i go back to stock rom. I liked the jelly bean rom but there were a couple of bugs that i couldn't get past. i never got liquid to flash correctly.
