hi...i was wondering if there were any different camera apk's that i could flash on my i717 Note. i am currently on Jelly Beer 3.35. I'm looking something from a different device that maybe has different tools/options than the one on this ROM. i beleive the camera that it has is the ICS one. ive heard of people using camer apk's from Motorola, HTC One X and other devices but not sure how they did it. i didn a search but couldn't find anything for the Note i717. could someone please point me in the right direction......
Use a camera app from the market.
Read what kind of cameras and features are available for your note. Download the rom, unzip it, copy the camera apk. and any dependencies to your phone.

APK alone won't be enough. There are some needed libs in order for this to work.
Guess we'll just have to wait till someone ports it to our Note.

Instructions are simple:
"replace original SamsungCamera.apk in system\app\ with this one using e.g. “Root explorer” or something… You need a rooted Device!"
Since it's just an apk, there shouldn't any harm in just testing it out -- just be sure to make a nandroid backup and be prepared to use adb to push the original SamsungCamera.apk back to /system/app if it causes any sort of bootloop/fails.
My suspicion is that it does rely on some of the S3's unique framework or lib files, and the camera hardware itself is also different, so it probably won't "just work"... but ya never know! lol
I also posted on HyperX's site to see if he has any interest in getting it ported to our i717...

Have a link to that CWM zip? It may contain additional system files that support the apk, so I'd like to take a quick look at it.

Why don't we move HAL module to a place Camera.apk can reach it? We can mod the camera app to find the module in the directory we put it in. Would it work or no?

EDIT: The way I see it is, Camera tries to load HAL module and HAL module connects to actual camera hardware. There would be a problem when HAL module can't connect to camera hardware right?

GB's libs dont work at 100%, i have tried sereval times, Nexus S and Galaxy S have the same procesor like SGP5, but SGP5 has also similar chips to galaxy note/SGSII.
The first what we have to get is... full specyfication of SGP5, we can send a mail to samsung, or seartch somewhere, if we will get it, we will be able to work effective.

Hello i am currently trying to get the 4.2 Photosphere camera to work with our phone but have had no luck... It force closes and breaks. Sometimes i even get the message "Camera not found." I have tried to get a logcat but there is literally so much spam going on with my current Touchwiz rom that i find it a waste of time to comb through it or upload it. When I finally flash a AOSP rom i will try again and upload a logcat. Here is a tutorial with i found to be complete crap and lies...

They said it works when obviously it doesnt. I noticed they they installed in on the international version with the 8-Core and we are using the Quad Core model. Maybe that is the reason.
Any help will be greatly appreciated and a donation will surely follow once we get this straightened out.

It's working without any issues on the stock rom without root. The only option that's missing is HDR. But, since stock camera app is still working side by side, that's not an issue anymore but annoyance . Anyway the photosphere also works fine.
So this camera apk is good for non root user on stock rom as well.

hi all sorry for this dumb question maybe it belong in the stupid questions thread but , what does this camera offer over the stock 4.2.2 camera ?
i didi have it loaded and uninstalled it about 10 min later , it seems verry basic to me , not many settings or options at all , and they layout seemed totally weird to me , maybe just cause im not used to it alot but i did find the settings in the camera but as far as 4.2..2 goes it has all the different shooting modes and alot to it , i'm just not understanding what this camera has over stock is all .

Thats because aosp doesnt have that function...and the google edition is an aosp experience so the feature doesnt exist
And the reason why its not uncluded in aosp is because there are no nexus devices with an sd slot...they build aosp for nexus devices, not the google edition phones
And im gonna guess the reason the "edit" doesnt work is due to some missing libs...ill look into it

Just wanted to share the Camera App that I took out of Sammobile's 4.3 Leaked Firmware for the Galaxy S4.
I just installed it regularly on my Odex ROM, and everything seems to work.
Should be the same on Deodex.
It's one APK, but it installs the Camera, and Gallery.
Enjoy.

... Not giving it up, just loading both cameras and galleries and using the ome that works the best for the situation.
I loaded this on CleanROM 1.5 R2 and it is perfect... though video is not as good as the stock camera.

Still have TW video recording. I'll only use the 4.3 camera for photosphere.
Does photosphere have all these other cool features? Does it take better pics.... not sure about all that but can't give all these up for me anyways.

The Google camera is only good for one thing on our phones. That's Photosphere. (just my opinion) I'll use the Samsung camera for everything else but it is nice to have the Photosphere capability for both recording and viewing. The Samsung camera has many, many more features. I do love the new menu style on the Google camera. That is so easy to use.

Why would you have to give it up? You can have both the stock TW camera & the AOSP camera installed if you're on a TW rom.
Works great on my Verizon galaxy note 2
Thank you.

Try renaming the gallery apks(/system/app/gallery4.apk and gallery2.apk) with .old at the end. Then try and install it. I had the same issue but once I renamed the apks it installed just fine.
One thing about this camera is it seems to lack a lot of options that even the 4.2.2 camera had. I like the simplicity of the aosp camera but I still like to tweak things here and there.
i usually do a lot of traveling and love to capture the beautiful surroundings keep coming in front of me .. i hope this app will certainly enhance my shooting by all the means ..
I just tried this on Eclipse rom and it installed correctly. The video camera is working also.
