So i have had my EVOLTE for a while now (3rd one) and currently I was running OMJ's JB Sense Rom. Everything was working fine, but in the past day, my phone was a little laggy, so I downloaded another ROM and Kernel, and set my phone down to let it download.
I noticed that the phone was getting a little hot, but thought that when downloading large files, it sometimes did. Later I went back to check on the phone while it was on the charger, and it seemed to be going fine, but when I unplugged it, the phone turned off, and now will not turn back on.
The soft button lights will flash when I hold up and power or down and power, but the screen never comes on, and sometimes it will randomly vibrate. Ive been trying to fix it using the unlimited.io ubuntu tools, but I cant get any of them to recognize it as being plugged into the USB. My laptop just keeps seeing it as an MTP device. I am rooted but not S-OFF...
Please Help!
Just Tried using several RUU's including the 3.12 JB RUU and I always get a 155 error.... Im all out of theories...

Did you relock the bootloader before trying the RUU? It won't work if it's unlocked. Can you get into the bootloader or recovery?

I've got nothing, then. Doesn't sound like a total brick, though, especially since the capacitive buttons light up. If you can let the battery die, plug your phone up and see if it will charge. This would be a good sign, in my opinion. Was your battery low when you were trying to flash the ROM?
Sent using my HTC EVO LTE and a magic wand
when i hold down the up and power buttons together, the bottom lights flash until it appears to go off and then it appears to reboot, by vibrating like it usually does upon boot, but that is the last thing that happens. The screen never appears to even come on...

You need to hold the power and volume DOWN buttons after doing the battery pull reset. That should get you into the bootloader.

If the lights still blink, then the device isn't dead. I'd throw it on the charger and forget about it for a few hours, and then try to get into HBOOT again.
It was on the charger from 10 pm till 8am and still nothing is happening... Thanks for all of your help
After the lights stop blinking hold down the volume down button. It should get you to bootloader. I've been on the same place as you with me HOX and it worked for me

Sounds like your phone works but your screen is dead...phone should not get hot like that.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Trying powering it on again, and connect it to a PC. See if the PC recognizes it at all. That will help determine whether the device is on, and your screen is burnt out, or if something else is wrong. If it does acknowledge a device was plugged in, try an "adb devices" to see if adb can see the device.
If the screen doesn't come on at all, you should have no problem taking it to Sprint and getting a replacement.

was running quicksense from about january dont know exactly which version.
phone completely died on me,
connected it to the charger and it turned on to the green "htc" logo,
but then it turns off..
so i tried booting to recover; holding volume down + power, with no luck.
tried it via connected to computer, no luck.
with & without batter still nothing..
weird thing is, SOMETIMES the charging light will keep blinking.
also SOMETIMES, the screen stays off, and the vibration feedback when pressing the home, menu, back, and search keys, virbates..
do i have the first bricked amaze or what?
--the search key "restarts the phone"
i can tell because the keys no longer make the phone vibrate when pressed after pressing the search key.
I'm betting my money on you having a earlier recovery installed that doesn't allow proper boot if the battery is dead... crappy part about that? it doesn't let the battery charge either... Find someone with an Amaze, or Sensation, charge your battery in their phone for 30 minutes, then try your phone again. Also, after your phone is charged, you probably want to reflash your recovery to a new one that doesn't exhibit this problem.
*just a wild guess, but it makes sense, it's happened to me*
*note, you could just have unrelated catastrophic hardware failure, lol*

S-Off isn't possible right now, S-On-Unlocked is safe. although having the recovery that doesn't support charging is like a temp-brick. You just need to charge your battery in another phone.
Or splice the battery directly to the wires for half an hour. That's how I charged when my charging port was the broked
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
Can you at least get into adb? You could try accessing it and then using adb to reboot into bootloader/recovery via "abd reboot recovery" or "adb reboot bootloader"
Did this get resolved? Just wanted to know if my hunch was right.
It sounds like a dead battery. The blinking light means (from my experience) that its charging but not enough juice to use yet. Once my phone died and it blinked for a couple of minutes. I tried turning on, but battery wasn't juiced enough. After a few minutes, the light turned solid and was charging and had enough power to turn on.
I would try a new battery. Good news is you're not bricked, and most likely, not even soft bricked

I've had a very similar issue to those mentioned here. I have the latest cwm recovery installed (five point something). After wiping battery stats my amaze went into a cycle of booting up normally then automatically restarting after about 30 seconds. Now it shows the amber light while charging, but will not boot at all, not even into recovery. adb says device not recognized, and the amber light flashes periodically and shuts off if i press the power button... should I trash this phone and get a galaxy s II ?

no need, spend 5 mins, plugging charger in, til the red light, lights then fades, pull out at this point, then plug in, repeating the process for 5 mins........then, hold (vol - , & Power) booting into bootloader, then plug your phone in, and you will see its charging
had to do it a few times myself

Howdy,
I'm stuck in a boot loop, searching the forum for a similar problem has yielded no result applicable to my situation.
I'm running CM10 and using TWRP (latest I think) and I'm S-OFF. Ive been running cm10 for about a month and have had no problems. This morning I woke up and checked my emails and texts then put my phone in my pocket. When I took it out about an hour later, the power button wouldn't wake my screen but it would light up the capacitive buttons. To try to fix, I did a hard reset (power button 10+ seconds) and now my phone won't boot or show anything on the screen, it just vibrates over and over.(about 10 seconds between vibrations) I also am unable to do another hard reset (the buttons wont's flash or anything). I've tried to get into bootloader and recovery and I can't get into either.
Also, I plugged it into my computer, and the charging light isn't on. According to om4's thread, I think I might have a corrupt kernel? But i don't know how that would be possible since I haven't flashed anything new for a month or so and I havent had any problems previously.
I'm familiar with adb and fastboot. But since I can't hard reset again, i'm not sure how to get into bootloader. Any ideas?

Wait....
So does the phone turn on to get adb support?
If you have adb you can reboot into the recovery.....adb reboot recovery
If still no see if you can run a ruu.exe for your device....this will restore your device to factory configuration.
If your phone doesnt even boot or anything thats not good really.

It's going through the same steps with the back cover off. Either no vibrating or continuous vibrating and no charge light. Screen is still blank.
EDIT: Does this seem like a problem with the kernel? or is it impossible to say. Is it worth trying to exchange the unit itself at best-buy
I appreciate your speedy replies.
If you don't have anything important on your phone I would definitely take it back to best buy. It's hard to say what it could be but if you were running fine then it all of a sudden happened with no changes I would doubt it would be the kernel

What model of htc do you have?
Dumb question, have you taken the battery out?
and a light should come on when its charging but doesnt?
it is more than likely possible to recover as long as nothing is damaged, i had a bootloop virus after trying to root, i had a friend fix it for me but all he did was flash the stock ruu using adb which was a pain in the ace because adb couldnt find the phone and the stock ruu was a Beach.
um, if none of those work, try a different cable i guess? trying to see if it is just an easy fix before you have to do anything 'fun'
No I didn't take the battery out it's not removable and no lights come on whatsoever and the pc can not see my phone no matter what cable I use
Let it sit on the charger for a day (24 hours) and then try to turn it on, this has been known to work. If this doesn't work then you may need to send it in. Could be bad battery or motherboard.
Thanks I'll try it man

It did not work. I tried all possible button combinations and still nothing.
So I have a verizon s4 (rooted) and it is bricked. If I take the battery out and put it back in the screen shows "Samsung" and then goes black and nothing else happens. I cant get it to start in bootloader or recovery mode either.
I am not sure if or how this is relevant, but I have been having issues with the power button, meaning that it wouldnt work when pressed except sometimes if I held it down long enough the "shut down/reboot" option showed up. In short I am not so convinced that it is working properly or maybe even at all.
Any help would be appreciated

Stupid suggestion, but try plugging the phone in to charge. I had some odd things happen to my phone where it would try to boot and continue to shut down. I knew I had charge on the battery, but when i plugged in the phone to the wall adapter, it acted like the battery did not have any power left. Once charged enough to boot, the phone would work fine.
