Just PM the member who using that

I just wan't to point out that using Swap file as swap from SD card can degrade life of card in long term.
Use if you really need it. You will get more memory to work on your phone.

I wonder whether if this swap stuff is really effective or not. these stuff might works well if we could make use the swap partition. however, in the screenshot I see that the swap partition only used 10mb. it means that the swap only used 5% of the partition and left the other 95% partition unused. well...it doesn't seems that the swap partition is contributing much for the system. it's more seems like we're just wasting the sdcard space. on top of that I also see that the ram still have 15mb free space. without swap, we can simply put that 10mb into our 15mb free memory space. but, if we turned on the swap partition we'll put that 10mb on slow swap partition which will decrease our overall device performance.
instead of using the slow swap partition, why don't we maximize the use of the ram?

[Q] Running Android from the ROM.

Is it possible to install Android to the ROM and not the sdcard? I think by running it from the ROM is faster than from the sdcard?
If it is not possible, would Android run faster if I put in a faster sdcard, e.g. a class 6 micro sdcard?

well i kinda understand what he's trying to say, so if i'm not mistaken, he was asking about whether or not we can run haret and/or CLRCAD from the phone memory not th SD card, not about flashing it to NAND.
just so that the system runs from the empty space in phone memory and only the data.img would be on the SD card, which theoratically will contribute solving the poor battery life caused from the need to boot the system from the SD card itself. am i right?

The simple apps 2 SD.. forget the rest. ---> S2E <--

If anyone has trouble installing A2EXT or A2SD, or simply don't have an SD card class 9000! then S2E is for you.
S2E is an application .apk you download from the Android Market, set what you want to go on your SD card, and that's IT!
No scripts, no errors.. no hassle.
::Note:: You must have your SD card partitioned.. which you can do with "Rom Manager"

I think that I....I....I love you. lol
This only works with CM7, not with other ROM like Salsa Slide. Not testing with other ROM so don't know if it works. However, this soft is pretty good.

Ooh I remember this.
I saw it on the XDA Portal back when it got posted. Worked pretty well.
Just reporting back with my results......
Works Perfectly!!!! Thank you again!
This is on the latest nightly (#142 - Android 2.3.5 O.C. to 844Mhz)
I started using this on both my N1 and my Slide about 3 months ago. Never a problem. DT is buggy and seems to be in perpetual beta development. Good post OP.
*I've only used this with cm7*
ive never had apps2sd before and wow that was easy. shweet.
Wonderful app!!!
Has anyone gone from one nightly to another with this? Did it stick?
Hi all. I've partitioned my SD card using rom manager with a 512 mb ext partition and a 30 mb swap vol, yet when I got to S2E, I see no space on my ext partition. Any special changes that I need to do to the settings in the app or something else I might be missing? Thanks.

This is kinda strange...try partitioning straight from the recovery menu, I used ClockworkMod 3.0.0.5 and it worked great (I like this version because you can manually adjust how big you want the ext partition while ROM Manager and ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7 only let you go up to 512 mb)
Thanks guys, for some reason Rom Manager hadn't actually partitioned the whole thing. It made my regular sd partition smaller and left what would be the ext partition and swap patition sizes alone. It just didn't create them. So I erased my sd card and retried to partition through rom manager and it worked. I'm on 2.5.0.7.
Glad it is working for you, it is a great app.
had the partition on my card already, but never got around to using it - found the scripts to be too much. this was EASY AS PIE! however, my apps was only 17mb. my davlik cache was 64mb, so that was nice to move. i've now got 100mb free. i was able to reload some apps i recently removed because i was hovering ~15-20mb. this is surely a great app

hmm u saying that the phone is comes from the company 11.25 gb first time we had it right ? .but why is that .
Its all mathematical.
Firstly, hardware manufacturers see 1 KiloByte as 1000 Bytes. So they see 16 GB as 16x1000x1000x1000
However software more accurately sees 1 Kilobyte as 1024 Bytes.
So take your 16x1000x1000x1000 then /1024/1024/1024 and you get 14.9 GB or 14.9 GiB as the hardware industry have forced software to show a true GB.
Ok so then you have 2 GB for Android ROM, 1 GB cache and some aside for /boot, /recovery etc... yeah, you're left with 11.25 - 11.35 free space

I have flashed custom roms 3-4 times and I sincerely feel that when I wipe/factory reset, all the memory has not been wiped. I have attached my storage screenshot on my i9300 (international s3) running in pacman rom jb 4.2.2. It doesn't add up. Where are the remaining memory? Interestingly, when I went BACK to pacman from stock it remembered the wallpaper that I had. What is the use of a wipe then?

how do you wipe? from recovery? that doesn't clean the internal sd.
if you flashed 4.2, your internal sd is now in /data/media/0, and before it was just /data/media.
so your internal sd contents from 4.1.x are still there in /data/media, taking up space
Oh.. Ok, thanks... Now is there any method where I can truly wipe out EVERYTHING and start fresh? Something like right out of factory, but only with custom rom? Btw, thanks for the quick info...

how can I backup my Link2SD partition?

I am using Link2SD, i LOVE IT!!!! However, when I make a backup of my ROM, my recovery doesn't see the 2nd partition, I'm using 4ext from Recovery, or Obackup for making a live backup. Anyone have any experience in this area? Yeah I'm not talking about installing apps I was using on a new ROM, I'm talking about being able to create a backup that INCLUDES the partition being used by Link2SD. As it is right now 4ext recovery is not seeing that partition and I'm not sure why. Neither is OBackup.

because I need more space on my phone's internal storage.
http://www.link2sd.info/
it is not the same as using the Android "move to SD" that is built in. what it does is after you create a second partition on your SD card, it makes your phone think it's part of it's internal storage, thus allowing you to install an ungodly amount of apps It uses sim-linking, if I'm correct. Check out the site it will give you more info. I love it. I made the second partition with GPARTED on a linux box. I may try doing it from recovery but I will have to wipe my entire sdcard for that and I didn't want to have to do that. I can test it with another sdcard and see if the new partition created is able to be used by link2sd then also backed up by the recovery. I'll have to check that out.

Yes, I understand..
I have not used sd2link since the Htc Desire(which was very low memory) and Desire HD2 (windows/android)...
I find now, that most app's/apk's now use the sdcard
and a app like app2sd keeps you informed
Ext3 or Ext4 must be used for Ext.
More common way of increasing memory is to swap internal with a ext4 on a fast sd card.:victory:
None of this, probably, is no help to you...
If you are rooted, you could use Titanium
Hope some of this helps .... Good luck

Just flashed ARHD

Just flashed it the other day. Why is my other so high? I just installed the apps that I normally install. I have the ROM file saved on my phone. Should I delete it?

Just flashed it the other day. Why is my other so high? I just installed the apps that I normally install. I have the ROM file saved on my phone. Should I delete it?

"Other" is anything on internal storage that doesn't fit the description of the other categories. The ROM alone is probably a GB or more. Also did you make a Titanium backup, or nandroid? Those take up storage, also.
I like to keep a known good ROM or nandroid (but not both, as that is excessive) on internal storage or removable SD, in case anything goes wrong I can restore with one of those (although you can pretty easily get it on the phone or SD if needed, so its just for convenience). But aside from that, its not necessary to keep the ROM zip.

I have a nandroid of my stock. I just deleted it and other went down to 8gb. I asked someone with the same custom ROM and his other is only 5gb.

Did you outright delete the nandroid, or at least move/copy to your computer or SD first? You have 17 GB free, so unless you make a copy, discarding backup data for the sake of unneeded space seems like a poor trade-off.
Do you understand that flashing a ROM does not wipe the internal storage? So anything you saved there before the flash is still there. Unless you choose the option in recovery to wipe storage, which will then of course cause you to lose any personal data stored there (backups, photos, etc.).

The nandroid is in my PC now. Forgot to mention that. I'll dig deeper into my phone. I don't really care about the extra storage space but if it's something that I can just delete then I do wanna delete it.

There are various apps to look at storage, but I find that one to have a cool and useful interface:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage&hl=en
It visually shows you how much space a folder is taking up, and you can then tap on it to drill down.

Wow this a really nice app. Thanks for being so patient with me I really appreciate it. I'm not a brand new android user but when I had one before my ex took care of all the stuff like this. That's why I'm still needing help in some areas because I switched back to iPhone after my my touch 4g.
Can I delete the ROM file that I downloaded since I already flashed the ROM?

No worries, we were all beginners at one time. For the most part, just passing on what I've learned here; and the coolest thing about XDA is that its a community where members help each other. In fact I only came across that Disk Usage app after another XDA user suggested it.

I already answered that question in post #2 above.
