Hi.
I'd like to downgrade my Archos g8 90 from 4.0.25, root version, to standard 4.0.7.
I've installed the SDE.
Can I make the downgrade directly or I need to do anything else ?
Thanks.

Not sure I fully understand your question (maybe a language translation problem), but...
The short answer is... you can always install whatever the LAST official Archos firmware you ever had installed (or any newer higher official Archos firmware) by going into the Recovery menu (hold Volume up or down from a fresh start up), but...
I am really confused because you said you had 4.0.25 rooted... and then you say you installed SDE... and that makes no sense to me at all because you would have had to have had SDE installed to ever even have been able to get any "rooted" firmware installed to start with. So, can you please list just what you have done, and which firmware all the way through things in the exact order you did them?

Thanks for your Reply.
Yes I have SDE installed with V4.0.25 Root version , and I'd like to install [email protected] V3 (based on 4.0.7).
May I do directly the downgrade to this version?
Thanks.
In sde? Yes. In Stock? No. Install it as described in its thread.

Hello all, even though i am pleased with the archos updates, I have decided to revert back to firmware 2.0.71 as I had no issues with the firmware, no browser crashes etc. Can someone please explain to me how this is done? I hope I do not have to root the device in order to do this...I tried resetting and then reinstalling the old firmware, but i get the error code when doing this. I am only able to install the latest firmware ..whoever helps i will send them a beer
You should just be able to copy the 2.0.71 firmware to the root of your device and as soon as you unplug the USB cable it should say "Do you want to update blah blah" and you click OK.
If it is throwing and error, then perhaps you need to step back from 2.1.8 to 2.1.4 or something first.
P.S. Send me a large bottle of Baltika 9. It costs like $4.00 but it will knock a brother on his ass.
@Explore, lol..thanx man but i tried the prior firmware n got the same error message about the firmware being too old for the device..the only time the update works is when i update with the same firmware that i already have on my device..which i find odd. Do i need to root my device to get this to work?
Well, Archos does not allow you to downgrade the device firmware... but apparently there is a hack which works... haven't done it myself, but give it a shot if you wish... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905053
@Craig ive seen that link but doing this voids ur warranty. There seems to be plenty of members that have downgraded without rooting the device...if someone could tell me how they got around the 212 error message id appreciate it

Oh, I have the Archos 101 8 gig. I am so confused why this is not working?? Thank u all for the assistance
I was able to go between 2.1.4 & 2.0.71 several times, with and without formatting....
Now that I've upgraded to 2.1.8, I can't downgrade.
I guess Archos "fixed" another non problem.....

Nope you can't even downgrade to 2.1.04 I just confirmed it on my A101IT.
Yes Archos again solved a non issue. I wish they stop with that sort of thing.

You can't root with the Wildfire on 2.2.1. You will have to wait till a software solution comes by.
Till now, the only way to root is to find someone with an XTC Clip (A hardware unlocking box), get S-OFF on your phone, and then downgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.1, and then root.
hi,
u must downgrade to 2.1 with RUU WWE in shipped rom and do unrevoke to root it. install wildpuzzle or impros or CM7 , so u can use live wallpaper.

Don't spread wrong information / misunderstanding among members please. Downgrading will work, but, it will just downgrade the Android OS from 2.2.1 to 2.1, but not the HBOOT, meaning even if you downgrade, it will NOT be rootable using Unrevoked.
As I stated, the only way as of now is to find someone with an XTC Clip box.
Hi
Thanks for the replay.

There's no info at all about when it will release. Sorry.
To install APK Files, first, just get any File Manager from the market (eg: ASTRO). Then, enable Sideloading by going to Settings > Applications > Tick Mark Unknown Sources. Then, simply open the APK file using the File Manager.
Is it possible to downgrade the firmware on the G9?
I just updated to ICS, but would like to go back...
Or, if anybody can tell me how to hide the menu bar completely for a kiosk application I am developing, that would be helpful.
This is possible in Honeycomb from what I can tell by killing systemUi, but not in ICS.
Thanks

YES.
You can do this, if you flash ICS rooted version and than you can install Custom Rom 3.2.80 ! .....after that you can install firmware_archos_it4.aos , or may be you don't need Custom Rom. Try directaly after ICS root to install orig Honeycomb....IT shoud be ork too ! Good luck !
try this
http://update.archos.com/9/gen9/gen9_/3.2.8/firmware_archos_it4.aos
boot to recovery, then update firmware, plug tablet into your computer, put this in the drive that pops up
when i try to update with the custom 3.2.80 rom, it says I need an lzo file, not gz. Is there a way to convert it?
In the meantime, I am trying the original 3.2.80 from archos. (It didn't work - error 221).
Thanks

Same to me Error 221. How is the correct name for firmware_archos_it4.aos?
I want to downgrade vom 403 zu 32.80.
im getting the same error 221 , i also want to downgrade to 3.2.80
i have no programming skills whatsoever, i just follow tutorials
something i did notice however was that the linux kernel for 3.2.80 was 2.x? and the kernel for 4.04 is 3.X
does it mean that the new release has made it unable to read the .aos from 3.2.80, like a new recovery menu
Please write to archos's technical Support!

I wonder is there a real way to downgrade Archos 4.0.28 firmaware to 3.2.80?

I could only update it again with 4.0.28 firmware to make the tablet working
Hi all,
Sorry if this is the wrong section and has possibly been covered many times before but I am new to this Android stuff and wanted instant answers due to not understanding things covered in posts and threads on the forum.
The phone:
I have a Sony Xperia x10i which was previously on Orange but has now been unlocked. It had Gingerbread 2.3 before but now has been what I assume is "debranded" and is now 2.1 (I dont know what)
The Problem:
I have tried to update via SonyPC companion where it shows "update avaliable" as I go to proceed it fails after clicking the next button (which sometimes comes up hidden in the dialog box)
I want to update the android market app to GooglePlay but due to being stuck on 2.1 it wont allow it unless 2.2 upwards.
Using Google - i typed in the build number which seems to throw back that it is a Greek rom of some kind?
Final note:
I want to keep my phone up to date without destroying the software or installing custom roms, basically keeping it original and simple. I want the latest firmwares etc so that it is all up to date. Also I would like to keep it unlocked without having to shell out to get it unlock again after it has been done once.
Hope someone can help me out. I can answer questions if more info needed.
Many thanks in advance.
(UK using o2 SIM)
I dont know 100% on what to do because im certainly no professional, but in the system phone menu at the bottom does it definatly show Android 2.1?
It says firmware 2.1 -update1 if that means anything?
It needs to mod the build.prop file to set device as global generic one and update with PC companion.
But it requires root first.
Evenit is very strange, almost all of the x10i got 2.3.3 fw.
Or second solution - download 2.3.3 stock fw and flash it via flashtool
Thanks for the reply.
Can you explain a bit better as I dont understand sorry.
Did you mean I have to modify the build somehow?
I thought about the new rom solution but not sure if my device network unlock would still be there after installing new roms. Can someone point me to a simple guide on installing a new rom etc.

You must be sure if what you want first
If you want to install a custom ROM, you will only need to root your device, install recovery and flash whatever ROM you want.
Or you can flash the stock 2.3.3 with Flashtool (thing thats the easiest solution for you) update and decide for custom roms later.
You have X10i rignt? Not X10a yes?
After you will decide what you want will provide further information.

The X10i is version for europe and parts of asia and so on. X10a is mainly from USA and Canada (other GSM module). Also exists SO-01B which is a Japanese version of X10i.

Everytime someone helps you, hit the "Thanks"button below his post, it will give him more good feelings Its a good habit everywhere here on XDA.
So here we go:
1.) Download the Flashtool form here:
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
2.) Donwload the generic SE WWE 2.3.3 ROM (here from my older post):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26141346&postcount=13
3.) Once complete - extract the file.ftf form ROM archive and place it in Flashtool directory called "firmwares"
4.) Run Flashtool, select Flash, choose Flash Mode (not fastboot) and then follow the onscreen steps
5.) Hint - maybe you will have problems to get your device into the Flash mode, see my post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26135308&postcount=4
Enjoy!
Smashing! I will definately give this a go next week as going away so dont want to screw the phone up before go lol. Will report back when Ive cracked it.
The Prestigio 5044 is a relatively new device, but I'm wondering if anyone has one and is willing to dump its NAND for me? I have one ordered but I'd like to have a dig through its files before it arrives.
There's a guide to dumping it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44509214&postcount=407 and if anyone'd be able to set me up (sadly there aren't any official images yet!), it'd be much appreciated.

Yo dude, I know Im late as hell but if you're still online, can you give an advice on how to flash stock rom?
I did everything according to some guide but when i should get a green circle - meaning flashing succeeded, I dont get anything..it flashes something cause i see the (pink) line moving forward but after it finishes, there's nothing and when i turned on my phone was the same as before. Probably cause of drivers...
I just want to upgrade the official firmware but as I deleted some stock apps, the update fails. So I found the stock rom, now I just have problems installing drivers and flashing it. Geez on my xperia arc s everything was so easy..
If anyone can help, I'd really appreaciate it
