[Q] Slow external SD card access - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm running OmegaROM v32 (upgrading it to v34).
Access to the external SD card seem really slow when I am doing nandroid backups with CWM Touch.
Is this normal? IS there something I can do to help (already copied/formatted/copied back)?
TIA!

Which External SD card are you using? Class? and filesystem?

Samsung Class 10 FAT

i can confirm this, the External card maxes out at 14MBr/w while the internal card can hit 40/30(r/w)
card is a 32GB samsung UHS-I that does up to 48/22MB/s(r/w) on dedicated readers.

HP Touchpad SD Card

Been reading up on putting CM on the touchpad and the likes (I don't have one yet, picking it up on Friday) and people are saying to install from sd card and someone in a video showing a rom said that his gallery picked up images from his sd card...does this have an SD card slot? Cause I read that it didn't...or does it just treat the internal memory as SD card?
Thanks,
Niall
No it doesn't have an SD card slot. The only storage it has is the internal memory of either 16/32/64 gb. Yes, cm team treats this internal memory as the SD card.

No SD card slot. It's internal memory as you suspected. Android labels the folder sd card.
It's a good buy if you get it cheap. Enjoyable to hack. Have fun with it!

And yet I can flash off internal or external SD and I have the exact ad card described.
i do flash stuff from the external exfat formatted 64 gb sandisk micro sd card in CWM... no problems here

Why do you want to re-name the SD card?
Unmount and remount the SD card, perhaps? Or format via recovery, if rooted?
Is it SDXC or SDHC?
SDXC might cause problems sometimes - exFAT, FAT32 and all that jazz.

Help me microsdhc card !

I have the problem same this:
" I bought a TF201 two weeks ago. And i inserted a Micro SD card 32gb Kingston to my device yesterday.
When i restart my tablet, it seems like okay when a notification appear in the screen "Preparing external storage..." , but the problem is here: the notification is pop-up in just 1 second then disappear.
And i cant enter my micro sd card. I go to setting -> storage and only see Internal storage 32gb.
Then i go to file manager and cant see anything about micro sd card.
I think the format of my micro sd card is wrong, or something wrong ? Cuz the tablet regconized something inserted in it so i can say there is nothing wrong about the device, isn't it ?" "
I using tf201 ICS .28 and have problem with sandisk 32G class 10. Help me huhu. Thanks for alls !!!
Hi, insert card into your pc or mac and check the card file system. If its ntfs, format it as fat32.

A MicroSD card formatted as NTFS should work with the Prime.
All of my 4 32 GB Class 10 MicroSD cards have been formatted as such and I have never experienced any issues with my Prime recognizing them.
Same here I have 32GB Scandisk class 10 microSD formatted with NTFS and no problems. I agree try reformatting the OS...I had problems with exfat or whatever it called

Have you tried another microSDHC card to rule out the possibility of a faulty memory card?

No ! my card is OK. TF201 accept card, in file manager show me microsd card as external storage, but when i coppy and paste data (ex: Grand Theft Auto III) it don't run.
And in "apps2sd" it show " The device doesn't have a real primary external storage, or the primary external storage is emulated".
I wan't use the card for install apps (similar card on Samsung galaxy ace S5830). Help me please ! Thanks for all !

Formatting micro sdxc 64gb

Hi,
Atm I am using temasek v5 and I am trying to format my micro sdxc 64gb card. But all solutions refer to the settings menu but there is no option to format. Maybe that is a 4.4 issue?
Formatting it on my PC works but it can't be read by my phone.
Seriously no one has this problem and everyone can format his/her external sd card on 4.4?
