Did you come from the galaxy nexus? - HTC Droid DNA

Recently picked up the Note 2 but it's just too wide for me... I'm seriously considering the DNA but am nervous about the similar battery size to my Nexus.
Did anyone specifically come from a Nexus and if so what have you noticed? I've read almost every thread I can find on battery life and haven't seen many comments regarding this.
Thanks everyone...

I came from a Nexus. Everything is fine over on my end. Haven't rooted or done anything and all is well...

I came from a verizon gnex and for me I get the same battery life on the DNA as I did with the Gnex with a customer kernel about a day with medium usage. thats texting, little gaming and 30 mins of talking a day over bluetooth.

I've got my nexus as well, and I can tell you the DNA kills the nexus in terms of screen alone..my nexus is one of those launch ones with the horrible yellow hue and banding issues...it's such an awful screen ugh I can't even look at it for more than five minutes without wanting to kill...lol

I also came from a VZW GNex and IMO battery life is noticeably better worth this device. I'm also not modded in any way yet for what it's worth.

i've noticed better as well. my gnex was never horrible like most people claimed it was..it was pretty much like my rezound..which the DNA kills lol

You can get through a whole day with 4-5 hours in screen no problem.

I was lucky if I could get through an 8 hour day with my Galaxy Nexus. My DNA is rooted and I've been running UKB without any issues - battery life has been phenomenal and I regularly am capable of going the entire day without needing a charge; and my phone gets used a fair amount. Overall I have to say I am EXTREMELY happy with the switch from the gNex to my DNA.

Thanks everyone that's what I needed to hear! I'll be picking one up soon...

You are convincing me to do the same!

Battery life is good on this phone with moderate use. I have had the phone for about 3 days and it gets me through the day.
So far no problems with the battery life.

I've arrived froma gnex on vzw as well and I am amazed at the DNA. Stock 100% at this point. I had Samsung reg and extended batteries. This is a great change in batt life. I'm also very assharmed to say I am liking sense UI...again. this phone just works. And works well. Great design. I have the diztronic case. Happy with that too for coin spent. My typing is better my browsing is more fluid and the screen is very crisp. I have vz emp edition.

What's funny is I was sitting in the Verizon store while returning the Note 2 and all I could think about was "will I be able to de-sense this?"...
But when I got home and put my SIM back in Nexus (which I hadn't used for ten days) I realized I had been using a sense theme lmao...
I have a feeling I won't mind sense too much. I did have a TBolt before my Nexus anyways. Thanks again for everyone's comments!

I came from the gnex to the dna and honestly, I love the dna. Sense 4+ is pretty nice imo, sure it's not aosp but HTC did some really nice things with sense.
Battery life is hands down phenomenal compared to the nexus. I was running aokp with imoseyons lean kernel under clocked. Just driving into work listening to a podcast for an hour would drop my battery almost 10% on my nexus extended battery. It used 6% for the same podcast, updating market apps and an hour of screen on time (dimmed) on my dna.
sent from my thumbs...
Edit: this should have said 8% used on dna, not 6. Also I'm always on 4g, I don't use wifi, I have unlimited data.

I dont mind sense at all, the phone is fast.

I agree. I came from a nexus and my battery life is amazing compared to it lol. I do miss stock 4.2 but there are a lot of pros with this phone compared to the nexus. Screen is mouth watering and sense looks so clean on 1080p. Currently running stock rom that's rooted, debloated, and deodexed. But you best believe once we have s-off, I will be flashing aosp lol
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium

I came from a nexus, i was a little iffy about going away from a device with so much development but the dna really is a great device. DNA's battery is significantly better than my gnex even with the extended battery. Im rooted and debloated but the rom and kernel are stock.

Thinking about switching from a Nexus

So I have cracked the screen on my Galaxy Nexus for a second time. I am thinking about getting the razr maxx with the insurance instead of another nexus. I was hoping you all could give me some straight forward feedback about the device. For example, is the battery life really that great? What is development like here on xda. How is the screen? Call clarity and so forth. Thank you all in advance and I appreciate your time for reply.

RAZR<=Gnex<maxx
If you are used to flash junk and customize your phone a lot. Keep your nexus.
Call quality on RAZR/maxx superior. Camera better on RAZR. Battery is outstanding on Maxx.
You might feel awkward holding edgy RAZR vs smooth nexus.

All I really want is cm 9 at most root at the very least. Do you know if either of those are possible?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I have prob 5 friends w modded nexuses. The screen is sharper on the nexus but much easier to read in any kind of light from me on the maxx. The battery if amazing. I can avg 5 hrs screen on time on 3g alone. The camera is actually much better than I originally thought and takes nice pictures very easily but no camera is as fast as the nexus...although I have only seen a stock nexus actually work correctly in the camera Dept.
I miss ics as I have had it on many phones since last oct but the ics leak is good for the RAZR. Still great battery life there. I rooted mine and froze a bunch of apps today that I don't use but I get the same battery life whether I freeze them or not.
One mild complaint that you may have is the RAZR gallery has a terrible pinch zoom bug. I use quickpic for my gallery and froze the stock gallery along w a lot of other stuff.
In the end its a phone. Calls are clear. Reception is great. And it really last all day. No rebooting all the time. No errors. No problems here. I like that.

Having never owned a Nexus I cannot compare the two but can offer my opinions of the MAXX as it compares to many Android phones from my past. The battery is simply amazing, best I could have ever hoped for. I can abuse my phone (granted that term is subjective) throughout the day and still have some juice left when I go to bed at night. My dad only uses his for calls and his lasts 3-4 days consistantly.
The screen is OK. IMO it is far inferior to the GSII that I came from. If you look close enough you can see a slight screen door effect that looks rather grainy. Not as bad as my Photon was, but still not as good of a screen as I have seen in other phones.
Motorola phones are not known for having a big dev community. I saw a lot more dev activity when I had an EVO 4G, EVO 3D and GSII. That may be the deal breaker for you if you are looking for much more than an out of the box experience.
Having said all of that, if you want an extremely solid phone, then the MAXX can deliver that. My experience in reception is much better than anything I ever owned on Sprint or Verizon and I live in an area with great coverage.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I would love a gsm maxx razr, now it's only 4 USA and I'm out of the borders.
I like razr, gotcha XT910 in december. Bought it because its amazing hardware , but I can't say I'm happy stuck in 2.3.5 GB due locked bl. Others devices in same categorie like SGII, Arc S,, and HTC now are running ICS flawless. To us, we can.only hope get hands on ICS by Q2,, at least.
Also, this is my second razr, and tomorrow I'll leave it to motorola service center again. I've a reason to be disapointed.
Have top phones since 90's and this is far away my best phone ever. Moved to android (came from 'siri' phone) because it's very popular in Brazil, and overall razr design. But you need luck to get a razr with no problem at all, at least, those made here, all LatAm, have to say. I dont see guys from XT912 (you have one right?) complain' about it.
May be too late indeed to motorola unlock bl, SGSIII is on the way with a 1.8 Quade core....
The AdamOtler vdd seems a bit radical, but he made the point. Cannot comment an opinion without reffer to it.
Cheers

Although the ICS leaks and ROMs are really good. They are not flawless. And won't be until the official release. Even the devs admit that. They all have bugs, albeit very minor bugs.
The big things for me was the HDMI out and the micro sd card. If you get a maxx then you get the awesome battery. While the dev for the phone is low right now, ICS is just around the corner and with a boot workaround here/being worked on I think the razr is the better phone.
both are great devices. so it depends what you want to do with each.
if mods, hacks, roms, flashing are your thing - Galaxy Nexus
limited tinkering - moto razr.
having said that, razr has better battery life. very lightweight. better camera too. plus storage is expandable.
I had the Nexus before I had my Razr Maxx.... Night and day. Radio was garbage in comparison on the Nexus, always bad reception. Battery life is SO much better. Razr feels much more solid. Aside from ICS, the nexus honestly seemed like a piece of junk when I got this.
Is cm9 available yet? Can you even flash custom roms?

Cause no Samsung phone has ever had problems. Give this video a break as Adam has no clue about the razr. He doesnt dev for it so he has no reason to talk ****. Just because they built it this way does not make it any less disposable than other phones. If it breaks and its your fault, then guess what, you fed up. If its not your fault you get a replacement or switch.

depating on purchasing a Rezound

$250 is not a bad price, and the screen on the Rezound is killer. Be prepared to go through batteries like it's nobody's business though. I keep 2 spares in my pocket, and I don't consider myself a power user.

I'm curious on those people who have s-off and custom kernals. Any news on better battery life, I'm just debated because LTE is known for sucking the life out of a battery.
Currently, I get almost 2 days with limited use.
I just bought one for $330 (beats, box, extended battery, otterbox and few extra batteries). And I've got a galaxy nexus. The Gnex has a bad camera in low light or indoors. I'm really looking for the day the package arrives.

I hated my Nexus. Horrible camera, lousy speaker. Beats ear buds couldn't save that phone. Lol. Dropped calls, and soooo many accidental screen shots. And I couldn't get used to a power button on the side and the volume rockers in the middle.
With that said...totally sexy phone. Screen was nice and so customizable. Lots of dev support. The Rezound is the perfect size and as long as you have those batteries you'll be fine.

S-off doesn't really do anything special for the phone..just allows stuff to be flashed that wasn't supported with HTC dev unlock..like radios and kernels via recovery.

honestly on this phone I don't notice much of a difference on 3g vs 4g for battery life. I don't know why that is, maybe it has something to do with the size of the antennae running through the back cover.
Totally worth it. Extended battery is a must though if you want to use 4g for more than 5 minutes. With extended battery, you can go all day with Pandora on 4g and still have a good 30% or so left.

[Q] Have A One X, But Want To Try A Note. Thoughts?

I'm pretty much on the fence of trying a Note. I was against the Phablet look in the beginning but I have pretty much tried every device that has made a mark on this forum and am thinking of giving it a go. Just looking for some opinions/thoughts on this.
Are there any advantages/disadvantages?
Do you think it's a even trade?
Thanks.

Its not nearly as bad as you would think. You get use to the size in about a week. Then any other Phone feels like a little toy. One thing for sure, one you watch some videos on YouTube on the note, you'll never want to watch then on anything else.

Size. Great screen too. Overall a great work horse for a semi power user.
I use the spen for quick notes when I am in a call or a quick thought. Watch YouTube like a fiend on the huge screen. Also use it like any great new phone and stream music to 3 different BT devices. The battery life can be hit or miss at times but i have an extra battery and an 8100 maH battery pack to charge with.
I've thought about a nexus many times but can't let go of the note. Next phone will have to have at minimum the same size screen and probably be 1080p

I flop around. I had the iPhone than the Meizu, Galaxy Nexus and now the One X. I do use my phone all day for everything so I think the Note is ideal for that.
Do you guys think I'll be taking a major hit as far as the one x screen vs the note screen? Or is it user preference?

Do you want to go for a note 1? It's a 1000 times better to go for note 2. I had been using htc 1x but did not like the idea of unlocking the bootloader stuff from htcdev. So sold it within 1week of purchase as I bought 2nd hand.
Note 2 is really nice if you can come to terms with the massive screen. Display of note 2 is better than 1. Htc one x screen is nicer but smaller.
Major difference is the battery which runs out for 1x within a day of moderate usage. Whereas note2 lives to almost 2.5 to 3 days.
1x overheating is a major pblm. Note 2 never clocks more than 32 deg but 1x shoots to almost 45 deg normally.

I think giving the note a try is a good idea. Battery life will be an adjustment. It seems I charge mine 2-3 times a day.
The screen and features more than make up for the battery deficiencies. I don't even over clock mine and it never lags. I'm using Padawan v6.2.
I am waiting for an update to JB. The point of having the Note is being able to use the SPen. As soon as we get some project butter goodness, well, what more could we need?

Battery is really just depends on the user. I personally get right aground 13-14hours with around 3-3.5 hours of screen on time. Not a gamer though.

That's my main reason for wanting to jump ship because I need something that will take me back to my N93/Blackberry days as far as battery life
Been trying all kinds of battery solutions myself. Have been carrying an anker 8100 mAh portable charger for a long time and now trying to just carry a spare battery. Seems like it is about break even 14-16 hours use. All day BT on and a lot of audio streaming. Few calls and possibly 20-30 texts

Samsung GS3 LCD/Digitizer shattered. Thinking about a DNA.

So I had my GS3 for about 3 months before it experienced a 2 foot drop shattering not just the digitizer but the LCD as well. The phone was a good phone, I originally had an Incredible, moved up to the Rezound (which I loved) and then the GS3. What I have learned about Samsung is that the build quality isn't as solid as HTC's (from my experiences). I was thinking about going back to HTC with the DNA.
I just wanted some input from people who own the phone and what their thoughts are about it. Practicality, Functionality, BATTERY LIFE (very important to me) and etc.
Any comments, concerns or suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance

For all intensive purposes the battery life is the same, if not slightly better than the s3.
And functionality and practicality is determined by you, we can't answer it for you.

Battery life, for me, is leaps and bounds above my s3. I NEVER got 5 hours of screen time on the s3.
Please don't touch my "Thanks" button, it doesn't like you...
Hmm. I am surprised to hear that about the battery life. I haven't read too much about the development of the DNA, is there the whole S-On or S-Off thing that the Rez had? haha
Do you guys notice a difference with the Quad core setup? GS3's dual was very quick and responsive.
Our phone is s on for the time being unless you want to send it to someone and have it opened up. But it really doesn't matter. Only things it changes is that we can't change the splash screen and radios and we have to use an app to flash kernels, besides that it is fine.
And it isn't any smoother per say, but i have seen the s3 get laggy every once in a while, that doesn't happen on the DNA. And apps definitely open faster on the DNA. And very intensive games run better.

I have the S3 and DNA and the battery life is virtually identical for me. Get about 4 hours screen time on both and about 15 hours with a full charge. I have the quad core S3 (international version) and the difference in performance is noticeable. On my S3 (which has 1gb of Ram) I would get lots of redraws on the home screen. Sure custom Rom's/kernels helped but did not totally resolve them. On the DNA I see no redraws or lag. Overall I enjoy the experience of the DNA more than I do my S3 so unless I am going on a long trip, my S3 stays in my desk drawer.
thank you guys for the replies. My main concern is S-Off, I know on the rezzy it made a huge difference (way easier to flash kernels/roms and etc.) Hopefully it isn't as complicated here with S-On. And I'm glad to hear about the battery life. I will most probably be purchasing one soon.
Definitely going to invest in good case.
***EDIT
only thing I am concerned about is not having an SD card slot. -__-
With s on you flash roms like any other phone, and kernels you use an app called flash image gui to flash the boot.img then you just flash the modules in recovery.

Lol if battery life is a concern you are definitely looking at the wrong phone. If anyone tells you different they are in denial. Htc, along with every reviewer on the net about the Dna have all acknowledged the poor performance of the battery.
If you are looking for the best phone out, the note 2 absolutely destroys the DNA. The only thing the dna has over the note 2 is screen resolution.... on paper lol. The note 2 screen is amazing. Honestly just grab one and take a look. Add in the amazing software ( split screen, pop up browser, pop up note and pop up movie player that can all be on the screen at the same time), spen, redonkulous battery life, sd card slot, ability to replace battery and amazing support and you have greatest phone on the market. Hope this helps!

The battery life on this phone is great. I had a Galaxy Nexus originally and then switched from the Note 2 to this.
If you want to carry that thing around in your pocket all day be my guest but I am much happier with the DNA compared to the Note.

And show me something like viper tweaks on a touchwiz Rom, oh wait, you can't.

This is why I will never buy another HTC phone, the people who buy HTC phones on here do so for the crap sense rom, and will argue with everyone that its the greatest piece of software out there. I buy my phone because of the hardware, and want AOSP as my rom, not this sense crap.

Lol its funny that your phone seems to be the anomaly. Everyone, including HTC THEMSELVES, have acknowledged the poor battery performance. Just look at the size of your battery vs. The amount of pixels the dna is pushing. Do the math man there is reason everyone ( except for a few in denial dna owners) has pointed to the battery peeformance. Living in denial my friend. If you like your dna, kudos to you. Enjoy carrying that phone charger around all day.
If the only bad thing you can say about the note 2 is the size thats a personal thing. Im 5 11 and this phone fits in my hand and pocket beautifully. My girlfriend is 5 5 and she has no problem what so ever with the note. That speaks dividends to how great the note is if the only bad thing you can say about it is the size. Note 2 ftw

Than go buy a nexus.
You should never buy a phone that you don't like stock, because for all you know it may never have aosp. If you don't like sense than don't buy HTC phones, same goes for touchwiz, or any other phone with a skin. Its simple as that.

Umm....no. are you serious? Look at the polls around net of touchwiz vs. Sense vs. stock. Most people prefer stock, then touchwiz and lastly sense. One of the biggest drawbacks of sense is the recent app drawer. Its beyond puzzling. Why would take up entire screen to see recent apps, including cutting away the app drawer, pull down menu and home screen? Very inefficient.

Thinking about switching from S4 have a few questions

Ok so I'm thinking of switching from my S4 to the DNA. I have a few questions, also I'm rooted on the s4.
1) how is the storage on the DNA, with root, like holding roms and the back ups?
2) can you view emojis on Facebook and instagram without root or do you have to be running a ROM?
3) what kinda photo modes are there? S4 has burst, sport, and a lot more
4) how's the battery life?
5)what's the biggest complaint about the DNA

DNA gets a tad more space to us with root battery life is great with uv and oc depending if you know how far the phone can go.
My biggest complain was the colors were not as good compared to other phones but now with the crpalalmer and baeups kernals have it so it looks great. Now if you are a flashaholic there's not as much as Samsung but the good thing is that there are a lot more roms then when I got the phone 6 months ago

1.) Storage is so-so. If you can stream most of your music and stuff you'll be fine. I was carrying around alot of music and stuff on my phone and that just wasn't cutting it. So you need to be selective about what you keep stored on the phone. The phone will work with USB-OTG cables though so keep that in mind.
2.) I'm not sure about the emojis.
3.) The phone has burst with best shot. It'll just pick out the best shot out of the burst of pictures. The burst feature is also extremely fast. Much faster then my Sony digital camera.
4.) Battery life is excellent. Expect 3 hours of screen life. If you use 3 hours of screen life as soon as you pull it off the charger it's gonna die. If you use 3 hours of screen life over the course of 18 hours it'll die then.
5.) The biggest complaint initially was that we didn't have s-off/root for the DNA when I first came over. Now that we do and we have many roms to choose from it's not that big of a deal. The phone is really awesome and well worth it. I wouldn't say it's an upgrade from the S4 but I think it can trade blows with the S4. As mentioned above the colors with the new kernels are much better and the screen is just magnificent. The only other complaint I have about the DNA is that it isn't the One.
Thanks guys. I'm still debating on it. I've always loved HTC. I've had the inc1, inc2, rezound so I'm thinking I'd like to have this one too. Just wish it had a 32gb edition.
And the emojis are the little android characters like smilies.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Have the s4 also but definitely prefer using my DNA. For me storage isn't a problem. With the DNA I get a anywhere from 3.5 to a little more than 4 hours screen on time with the s4 easily 6 hours. Biggest complaint? Just wished HTC had gone a bit bigger on the battery but that still doesn't stop me from choosing to use it over the s4. The feel of this beauty in hand just craps on the s4.

I think the thing I like best about the DNA vs. the S4 is the fully unlockable bootloader. The S4 does not have this. There is the bootloader bypass method, but no true unlock. And Samsungs latest kernels block root on a kernel level, so I could see development on the non-GPE S4 drying up all of a sudden.
I also like the fact that the DNA is fully gsm unlocked.
Thanks guys. I'm really considering it. I was messing with my old rezound and it made me miss HTC. I'm stuck between trading for a DNA or waiting for Verizon to drop the HTC one.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Honestly the dna is an incredible device but it is not the one. If I were you I would go for the newer one then the dna (boom sound, 4.7 instead of 5 inch screen, and it's freaking made of metal) if you choose the dna it will not disappoint by any means though.
