I'm pretty much on the fence of trying a Note. I was against the Phablet look in the beginning but I have pretty much tried every device that has made a mark on this forum and am thinking of giving it a go. Just looking for some opinions/thoughts on this.
Are there any advantages/disadvantages?
Do you think it's a even trade?
Thanks.

The note is a great phone. Really in a league of it's own. If you can find a trade it would be worth it. I wanted to try a one X but could not give up the few perks the note has over the hox.
What are your concerns about the switch to the note?

Mainly the size. Texting on it won't be a issue but just talking on it.
What are the perks you speak of?

Its not nearly as bad as you would think. You get use to the size in about a week. Then any other Phone feels like a little toy. One thing for sure, one you watch some videos on YouTube on the note, you'll never want to watch then on anything else.

Size. Great screen too. Overall a great work horse for a semi power user.
I use the spen for quick notes when I am in a call or a quick thought. Watch YouTube like a fiend on the huge screen. Also use it like any great new phone and stream music to 3 different BT devices. The battery life can be hit or miss at times but i have an extra battery and an 8100 maH battery pack to charge with.
I've thought about a nexus many times but can't let go of the note. Next phone will have to have at minimum the same size screen and probably be 1080p

I came to the note after a bad month with the one x. I definitely like the note over the one x. I use some Bluetooth headphones instead of putting the phone to my head.

I flop around. I had the iPhone than the Meizu, Galaxy Nexus and now the One X. I do use my phone all day for everything so I think the Note is ideal for that.
Do you guys think I'll be taking a major hit as far as the one x screen vs the note screen? Or is it user preference?

Get a used i717 Note cheap as you can, try it, then I think you might have a One x for sale. LOL. Far as the screen goes, I've never even held a One x in my hand mind you, if I had microscope eyes maybe.

Do you want to go for a note 1? It's a 1000 times better to go for note 2. I had been using htc 1x but did not like the idea of unlocking the bootloader stuff from htcdev. So sold it within 1week of purchase as I bought 2nd hand.
Note 2 is really nice if you can come to terms with the massive screen. Display of note 2 is better than 1. Htc one x screen is nicer but smaller.
Major difference is the battery which runs out for 1x within a day of moderate usage. Whereas note2 lives to almost 2.5 to 3 days.
1x overheating is a major pblm. Note 2 never clocks more than 32 deg but 1x shoots to almost 45 deg normally.

I want to try the Note 1 first before I decide on what to use my upgrade on either a Note 2 or whatever comes next year.
Looking for something more on the realistic lines of a trade. NO ONE WILL TRADE ME A N2 FOR A HOX LMAO.

I think giving the note a try is a good idea. Battery life will be an adjustment. It seems I charge mine 2-3 times a day.
The screen and features more than make up for the battery deficiencies. I don't even over clock mine and it never lags. I'm using Padawan v6.2.
I am waiting for an update to JB. The point of having the Note is being able to use the SPen. As soon as we get some project butter goodness, well, what more could we need?

That's my main reason for wanting to jump ship because I need something that will take me back to my N93/Blackberry days as far as battery life
Been trying all kinds of battery solutions myself. Have been carrying an anker 8100 mAh portable charger for a long time and now trying to just carry a spare battery. Seems like it is about break even 14-16 hours use. All day BT on and a lot of audio streaming. Few calls and possibly 20-30 texts

Hi, I was hoping for a little help with my decision. I am up for an upgrade this coming Monday and it works out that I can get an original Galaxy Note for $50 on contract. I can also get the Gs3 for the same price, but I love the size of the Note. So basically is there a lot of development for the Note? Is everyone here happy with getting the Note and would they keep their Note over a Gs3?

My reasons for choosing the note over sg3:
Big screen (don't think I could go back at this point)
S pen
This may be weird, but I don't like the button on the front screen of the sg3.
Hardware is fine, even though sg3 is a little bit nicer.
The Rom community for the note is very active.
Either way, you're getting a badass phone

I'd buy it again in a second ...g

I had the same decision and jumped on the Note. It's impossible to beat that price and I don't think the Note 2 will be worth $150 more than the Note 1. I'm also betting that most of the additional Note 2 functionality will find its way into the Note 1. I've gone back and forth between the Collective ROM and the OnlyOne which I understand isn't being worked on anymore. It gave me S-Voice and other SG3 functionality that I can't remember right now. Like you, I've got the TP running the latest CM9 nightly and the Inspire 4G running the latest Jelly Time. The Note is far and away my favorite. The screen is amazing.
Would you happen to know if CM10 runs well on it as well? I really appreciate all of the feedback and advice. I usually leave my phones stock for a month or do, then its flashing time! So I'm hoping the Note had a lot of choices when it comes to custom ROMs.

I've been running PA (found in the original dev section) and it's great, a couple of small issues but the phone is soo smooth. Also there's been an announcement from Samsung that says they'll be putting out an official JB ROM. Personally I love the Note and I'm still not sold on the next one. If you want to get an awesome price, wait for a couple of weeks before the Note 2 is released, you should be able to get it for next to nothing.
As it stands now I can get it for $50, brand new on contract. Thats a great deal I think.

Just my two cents i have owned both the GS3 and the Note and so far i think the note blows away the GS3 it is nice and as quick as my GS3 was.
The thing is huge but after a couple days you become used to it and will not notice its size also the screen is beautiful processor seems solid battery life is good and i pound on my battery streaming surfing the web and playing music and i get a solid 5 hours and thats constant use if i leave it alone it will go the whole day which i couldnt with the GS3
Sound quality for the speaker is so-so but ive come to expect this from phones now when i plug my headphones in the sound is crystal and sharp
Also running CM10 some weird issues but nothing that is a deal breaker all in al i say you cant go wrong
I'll probably hold out on CM10 if JB is coming soon, but thanks for the help. You guys are all making my decision so much easier!

After the Rezound I'm officially done with HTC for good, if it want for the developer community we (luckily) have I would have bought a GNEX off contract. It's not just the Rezz either, from the thunderbolt to the One X and S HTC is consistently lagging behind. Finally and most importantly they diffuse to keep yo with android as a whole, were the years into on screen nav keys and HTC still continues to use causative buttons ( so much more screen room, still on that ugly ass green color when the blue is much more inviting it also clashes with Google apps. It looks like Motorola and sammy have finally stepped it up so that's where I am going.

If it's true that a VZW version will drop as the DNA+ in a couple of months, that will be my next phone. Identical specs to the One and it's supposed to have microSd card support as well. Basically, what the DNA should have been in the first place.

No way. Not doing the ril stuff anymore. Really delays Rom development.
Rezound, s-off, loving it.
Pretty tempted to go with Sammy for the next phone too..ive done the Moto/LG/HTC experiences..guessing its about time for me to join the sheep of the Android world and get a Galaxy (unless the rumored Moto X phone is really something beastly). Hope the SGS4 won't disappoint, not a fan of their design and build quality but hard to be disappointed with their hardware and software. I'll probably still be on the Rez for a bit longer anyway though..VZW will probably lag way behind again in releasing the SGS4, and I hate paying full upgrade pricing when I can wait 2 or 3 months and have the price halved or even better. Still love the Rez in its own right. I never had any real complaints about the Rez (and yes, especially because of the amazing devs we have here) but I hope my next phone is 1. Lighter (it's about the same weight as my old Droid 2 for god's sake) 2. is considerably better on battery life. Camera/reception/screen etc. I think have always been fantastic on this device.
I am VERY curious though to see a battery test on the HTC One..battery seems like it's fairly decent in capacity, but I wonder how much more (if even) that new cpu will get out of it.

I'm not understanding this. HTC is a failing company because they are failing the consumers that were once loyal. My first phone was the DINC and I love that thing, I still love my Rezound as well it's a great phone and I got so much more than with the GNEX and RZR. HTC even began unlocking boot loaders for those who wanted I was really high on my HTC horse but the more and more I hear about the update problems HTC is having while others are moving forward clearly shows that buying a new HTC device is a gamble. I mean the RAZR is getting OFFICIAL JB. Another thing to consider the incredible 4g came out after the Rezound with worse specs and that was it until the DNA came out? They move a step forward them two steps back it makes no sense. I will say however Motorola is also guilty of this in Some ways with the max line just like HTC + lines. Samsung is winning the battle because sadly they are just ding it properly. I hope I see HTC make strides over the year because I will be leaving Verizon sooner rather than later. Pretty sure I'm going to switch to T-MO everything unlimited plan no contacts or carrier chains sounds amazing and new nexus devices whenever I feel like it straight from Google. Sounds like heaven.

I wish phone makers and carriers would stop pushing that cloud crap. Only reason phone makers likes it is because they can stop putting a SD slot in save money and then charge the same price. The carriers likes cloud because with no more unlimited plans on many of the carriers. That means more people will run the risk of going over and they can charge outrageous overage fees.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Non removable battery or if the phone doesn't have more that 32 gigs no sale. I don't believe in the cloud for all my data or my music. I don't like to use the cloud for privacy reasons and it drains my battery faster. Only cloud I use is my own or ssh to my own computer and get files that way. I do like this phone but my rezound experience has been less than stellar. Thinking I'll give Samsung a try on there next phone.

A bit of tact would flatter you, unless you're a teenie bopper, in which case I'll forgive you. You have a point and while the software and hardware has steadily improved in utilizing the batteries, I d still say it's still far from ideal.
I'm glad you don't mind carrying all that extra stuff around but I'd like to be able to rely on the device and the battery that comes with it, rather than having to resort to additional measures.
I'm thinking about it. What are your views?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
The camera on the One seems a little less reliable (im getting more out of focus or slightly blurry shots) but people have said an update is coming that fixes it. The design of the One makes Samsung look like a bunch of amateurs. The screen is much better too. I'm not sure why, but no one ever mentions how poor amoled displays are out in sunlight. You can't even read them! But the One is nice and clear just like other IPS displays. Battery life is enough to make it through a day easily and I'm really liking the boomsound speakers.

I loved my Note 2, but this has been a welcomed change. For me, the Note 2 was just a little too big and I think that this is the sweet spot.
I can honestly say that I've never used a phone that is this close to the complete package. I don't think you will regret it if you switch, the HTC One is flat out superb.

Personally, I'm glad to shed a little bit of screen size in favor of a more manageable, attractive device. The Note 2 is great, no doubt about it, but the HTC One is better. There's no other way to say it.
I like the screen on this device vs my note 2. Also the screen size for this is much more manageable to hold and use rather than the note 2. I miss using one hand. Lol

i miss the screen size when i'm reading emails, text messaging or surfing the web. it's not to the point that i can't/won't adjust to a smaller screen. battery life so far has been in line with my expectations, meaning it's been enough to get me through my normal workday. i knew going into my "trial run" that the One could not compete on the battery front. yes, the One is easier to maneuver vs. the Note II but not so much that it would sway me away from the Note II. one thing is for sure, the One is one sexy a$$ kit that works well and has not let me down relative to the hype. my decision is which one will get used most often... right now, my Note II has temporarily replaced my laptop (UltraXPS) on flights to/from client sites and when attending meetings (which averages about 4-5 hours every day). the One is being used as my business phone. my plans now are to keep both devices.

This is exactly how I feel! I really, really love the Note II, and it's only been a couple of days with the One, but I definitely still "feel" like I'm missing something or leaving features behind. It's some combination of the removable battery, the screen size, the S-Pen (used infrequently, but cool when I do) and yes... a few of those gimmicky "kitchen sink" features Samsung throws in that are actually useful.
The One is clearly an awesome device, so I'm giving it time. This is a trial run for me as well, and I feel like I'm right back where I was last year with the One X+ vs. the Note II. It still boils down to a "beauty" vs "the beast" choice, and I'm not quite sure where I fall this year.
So I went to the HTC One and have had a few days to play with it. I really like the build materials, speakers, and 1080p.
However, I keep picking up my Note 2 and wondering if I should go back to it.
Maybe it's tough going back down in screen size. Maybe I actually like the feel of the bigger phone because it feels more substantial. Not that I have had an issue with battery life yet since I haven't had much time to dabble, but the Note 2 had superb battery life in stock form.
I think both devices do different things really well. It's more about deciding which one is a better fit for ME I guess.
I got to make a decision because I know my girlfriend is waiting for me to pick and bug me for the other!
Thoughts?
You said it yourself. It's up to you. I had a Note 2 and loved it. Great phone and still up on top. I just got tired of the size. Loving my HTC One. Plus I love the IR blaster. Couldn't go back to not having one lol

The ir blaster is fun. I am going to play with the One a bit more in depth this weekend. Usually when I change devices I never look back, but the Note 2 was very good to me! For work related purposes, the Note 2 is better hands down.
The size is what made me decide to try the One as well. I commute on a motorcycle every day, so the Note can become cumbersome.
I know what you mean. They really got it right with the Note 2. Keep both and get your girl something else

what work purposes did you use it for? Do people use it for taking notes?

I have a Note 2 as well and I have to say that for as much as I love it, I definitely prefer the HTC One. It certainly took some getting used to the size again but I do prefer it. The build quality and even Sense5 and the camera make it well worth it. Also if the Note 2 was 5.3" then I think I would have liked it more. 5.5 is a bit large for one handed operation and it makes it bulge out of my pocket. Either way just pick the one hat makes you happy
If you value battery, big screen, lots of software feature , external SCCard up to 64GB, removable battery, and don't mind looking at a 720p screen, i say Note 2 without a doubt.
HTC One is cool when you use it in first week. After a while, the aluminum and the good looking grow tired.

The screen on note 2 looks washed out . The ppi is not good .. Ones u use a 1080p there is no going back. I bought a droid dna , now i'm buying ONE in a few days
Thats what i am thinking about doing what do you guys think?
It seems like there are a few concerns. first a slightly smaller screen.... But i might be ok with that. i have a nexus 7 LTE if i want a bigger screen.
No sd card.... its a concern but i never use that much space anyways.
None removable battery. Maybe my biggest issue. as i have a 6400 and a 9300 batter for my note 2. I dont use them all the time but they are nice to have.
My biggest reason to get a new phone is the better camara. i have a 19 month old at home and my favorite thing to do is take pictures. The cpu upgrade would be sweet also.
*EDIT*
if this patch locked the bootloader i am leaving verizon
This question may have been asked already but I made the exact change and I could not be happier. Don't get me wrong I loved the Note 2 and was waiting for the 3 and then this phone came out. It basically has similar internals except for the ram, removable battery and sd slot. All of which are for personal preference.
As far as real life this phone easily makes the day for me. To me the camera is great. It is already rooted. With the verizon coupon I got it for $140 over the Internet. You really can't go wrong. Just my 2 cents.

Since you had the note 2 like me, can u easily use the g2 one handed now?

I can use it with ease. My wife has the S4 and I did not want to get that. The G2 works great with one handed operation.

Coming from a note 2 and lumia 928. Sold them both. The G2 (imo) destroys them both. (Imo) I dint have ANY of the issues I see must complaints about here on the boards. It keeps getting better every day.

Ex-Note 2 and HTC One user here. Got the G2 and couldn't be happier. The only reason you should stick with the Note 2 (or get the Note 3) is if you use the stylus a lot. The G2's smaller screen is not an issue because it's a higher resolution and just looks awesome. It's 4:13PM right now...I streamed about 3 hours worth of music using LTE through Google Play to my bluetooth headphones, studied my PDF textbook for about 30 minutes, and did about 30 minutes of web browsing and my G2 is only down to 84%. Best battery life I've ever had in a phone :good:
I might be getting a G2 too
ex note 2 user here, my friend is asking me every day to sell it to him, i may let it down when the G2 hit our local stores.
