So I went to the HTC One and have had a few days to play with it. I really like the build materials, speakers, and 1080p.
However, I keep picking up my Note 2 and wondering if I should go back to it.
Maybe it's tough going back down in screen size. Maybe I actually like the feel of the bigger phone because it feels more substantial. Not that I have had an issue with battery life yet since I haven't had much time to dabble, but the Note 2 had superb battery life in stock form.
I think both devices do different things really well. It's more about deciding which one is a better fit for ME I guess.
I got to make a decision because I know my girlfriend is waiting for me to pick and bug me for the other!
Thoughts?
You said it yourself. It's up to you. I had a Note 2 and loved it. Great phone and still up on top. I just got tired of the size. Loving my HTC One. Plus I love the IR blaster. Couldn't go back to not having one lol

The ir blaster is fun. I am going to play with the One a bit more in depth this weekend. Usually when I change devices I never look back, but the Note 2 was very good to me! For work related purposes, the Note 2 is better hands down.
The size is what made me decide to try the One as well. I commute on a motorcycle every day, so the Note can become cumbersome.
I know what you mean. They really got it right with the Note 2. Keep both and get your girl something else

I have a Note 2 as well and I have to say that for as much as I love it, I definitely prefer the HTC One. It certainly took some getting used to the size again but I do prefer it. The build quality and even Sense5 and the camera make it well worth it. Also if the Note 2 was 5.3" then I think I would have liked it more. 5.5 is a bit large for one handed operation and it makes it bulge out of my pocket. Either way just pick the one hat makes you happy
If you value battery, big screen, lots of software feature , external SCCard up to 64GB, removable battery, and don't mind looking at a 720p screen, i say Note 2 without a doubt.
HTC One is cool when you use it in first week. After a while, the aluminum and the good looking grow tired.

I'm pretty much on the fence of trying a Note. I was against the Phablet look in the beginning but I have pretty much tried every device that has made a mark on this forum and am thinking of giving it a go. Just looking for some opinions/thoughts on this.
Are there any advantages/disadvantages?
Do you think it's a even trade?
Thanks.

The note is a great phone. Really in a league of it's own. If you can find a trade it would be worth it. I wanted to try a one X but could not give up the few perks the note has over the hox.

Its not nearly as bad as you would think. You get use to the size in about a week. Then any other Phone feels like a little toy. One thing for sure, one you watch some videos on YouTube on the note, you'll never want to watch then on anything else.

Size. Great screen too. Overall a great work horse for a semi power user.
I use the spen for quick notes when I am in a call or a quick thought. Watch YouTube like a fiend on the huge screen. Also use it like any great new phone and stream music to 3 different BT devices. The battery life can be hit or miss at times but i have an extra battery and an 8100 maH battery pack to charge with.
I've thought about a nexus many times but can't let go of the note. Next phone will have to have at minimum the same size screen and probably be 1080p

I flop around. I had the iPhone than the Meizu, Galaxy Nexus and now the One X. I do use my phone all day for everything so I think the Note is ideal for that.
Do you guys think I'll be taking a major hit as far as the one x screen vs the note screen? Or is it user preference?

Get a used i717 Note cheap as you can, try it, then I think you might have a One x for sale. LOL. Far as the screen goes, I've never even held a One x in my hand mind you, if I had microscope eyes maybe.

Do you want to go for a note 1? It's a 1000 times better to go for note 2. I had been using htc 1x but did not like the idea of unlocking the bootloader stuff from htcdev. So sold it within 1week of purchase as I bought 2nd hand.
Note 2 is really nice if you can come to terms with the massive screen. Display of note 2 is better than 1. Htc one x screen is nicer but smaller.
Major difference is the battery which runs out for 1x within a day of moderate usage. Whereas note2 lives to almost 2.5 to 3 days.
1x overheating is a major pblm. Note 2 never clocks more than 32 deg but 1x shoots to almost 45 deg normally.

I think giving the note a try is a good idea. Battery life will be an adjustment. It seems I charge mine 2-3 times a day.
The screen and features more than make up for the battery deficiencies. I don't even over clock mine and it never lags. I'm using Padawan v6.2.
I am waiting for an update to JB. The point of having the Note is being able to use the SPen. As soon as we get some project butter goodness, well, what more could we need?

I haven't put my Note for sale on swappa but, I did list it for sale or trade locally and was offered a very good condition 16gb iPhone 4s + $300 for my Note.
I know I should be able to get $600 for the Note but, I think the 4s is only worth about $200.
Would you all make the trade?
I wouldn't just because I couldn't do the tiny iPhone screen. However if you're okay with it then that's actually a good deal.the iPhone runs 300 still. I would try for 350 though to make it a great deal.

Its all perception. You would cringe at first, but a few weeks with an iPhone and you would get used to the screen size. Back before Android phones got giant (Think around the Droid Incredible/Droid X days) the phones like the Incredible (3.7in) felt normal and the phones like the droid X (4.3in) seemed gigantic. Now that you are used to the Note 2 it may be hard to go back to 4in but when you had a 4in phone I don't think you always cringed while looking at it.

i can't believe I loved that phone so much. Now, it just seems so small/laggy etc....
Honestly, if I was to trade phones "AT THE MOMENT" the only phone I see worth of trade is the iPhone 5. Anything else would need cash on top. The iPhone has a better build of materials. And to be completely honest the software "Apps" on iOS is still dominating Android. Especially in the game department...
Any other phone trade would need cash on top.

I completely disagree with this. Although I agree that when the first 4.3" screens were coming out I thought they were huge, I feel that you can get used to the bigger screen, but it doesn't work going back the other way. I went back to my Droid 2 after my GNex's touch screen stopped working and tried to live with that tiny screen for 2 months before the GS3 came out and I bought that. OMG I was so happy to get a decent sized screen back again. I feel I could confidently go back to a 4.7" device without much fuss, mainly because I miss being able to completely one hand a device, but anything smaller nowadays and you're just missing out.

My 2 cents... Who cares. Let them get whatever they want. It gets old arguing about what phone is better than the other, and whatnot. The only thing I dont understand is why people need to validate by posting that either a phone sucks and they are getting rid of it, or the fact they need to be talked into moving to something else.
Trade them even up for an iPhone 5 and be done with it.

The camera on the One seems a little less reliable (im getting more out of focus or slightly blurry shots) but people have said an update is coming that fixes it. The design of the One makes Samsung look like a bunch of amateurs. The screen is much better too. I'm not sure why, but no one ever mentions how poor amoled displays are out in sunlight. You can't even read them! But the One is nice and clear just like other IPS displays. Battery life is enough to make it through a day easily and I'm really liking the boomsound speakers.

I loved my Note 2, but this has been a welcomed change. For me, the Note 2 was just a little too big and I think that this is the sweet spot.
I can honestly say that I've never used a phone that is this close to the complete package. I don't think you will regret it if you switch, the HTC One is flat out superb.

I will miss the deep AMOLED blacks when I'm browsing at night (as well as the battery efficiency), but I'm tired of people making a comment about how big my Note II is every time I need to check an email 4.7" is the perfect size for me.

Personally, I'm glad to shed a little bit of screen size in favor of a more manageable, attractive device. The Note 2 is great, no doubt about it, but the HTC One is better. There's no other way to say it.
I like the screen on this device vs my note 2. Also the screen size for this is much more manageable to hold and use rather than the note 2. I miss using one hand. Lol

i miss the screen size when i'm reading emails, text messaging or surfing the web. it's not to the point that i can't/won't adjust to a smaller screen. battery life so far has been in line with my expectations, meaning it's been enough to get me through my normal workday. i knew going into my "trial run" that the One could not compete on the battery front. yes, the One is easier to maneuver vs. the Note II but not so much that it would sway me away from the Note II. one thing is for sure, the One is one sexy a$$ kit that works well and has not let me down relative to the hype. my decision is which one will get used most often... right now, my Note II has temporarily replaced my laptop (UltraXPS) on flights to/from client sites and when attending meetings (which averages about 4-5 hours every day). the One is being used as my business phone. my plans now are to keep both devices.

This is exactly how I feel! I really, really love the Note II, and it's only been a couple of days with the One, but I definitely still "feel" like I'm missing something or leaving features behind. It's some combination of the removable battery, the screen size, the S-Pen (used infrequently, but cool when I do) and yes... a few of those gimmicky "kitchen sink" features Samsung throws in that are actually useful.
The One is clearly an awesome device, so I'm giving it time. This is a trial run for me as well, and I feel like I'm right back where I was last year with the One X+ vs. the Note II. It still boils down to a "beauty" vs "the beast" choice, and I'm not quite sure where I fall this year.
I've been slowly making the switch from my Verizon Note 2 to the HTC One on T-Mobile and I've quickly learned a few things.
1. That initial realization that the Note just can't be compared to any other standard sizes phone. There is no way I could say either the One or the Note is better just because they were designed for two completely different ways of use. But the only thing I'm going to miss from Samsung is the multi-window feature. I'll live without the pen.
2. Removable storage. there was something really convenient about being able to swap SD cards depending on my day. I have a music card and a video card that I would switch out if I was going to work or just vegging on the couch while beaming videos to the tv.
I've seen many times people talking about switching phones and almost immediately coming back to the Note, but there's a more specific switch I had to make in my daily routine to make me not want to come running back. I mean, the One is in no way a small phone, but when set next to the Note, it looks like a 4.3 inch phone. That's where I'm having to make the switch. The fact the my phone needs to be a phone is where the One becomes a better fit for me.
TLDR Peace yall. I'm moving to the HTC One.

What do you mean the phone needs to be a phone?
Were you having signal issues or something?

Yeah, HTC, and Verizon did such a good job keeping the rezound, and the thunderbolt up to date. I hope that this works out for you. I will say that Ihave htc phones, and this one, and the signal isn't that much better. Plus I have never had this phone go into bacon mode like my 6 rezounds.
Today, young ,men on acid realize that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciences sharing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are just imaginations of ourselves And now to the weather.....

Sounded like he was being sarcastic. The rezound took forever to be updated to ics. I had it months before Verizon updated it. I sold the phone before it got that update. Lol I love HTC but the Note owns the One in real world use. But to each their own

I left Verizon in April this year and made that stupid decision to try tmobile again. In fact I too had the HTC one. I loved the phone, so smooth. I just couldn't live with spotty coverage and no signal at my office. I came back to Verizon this month and have the note 2. Everyone tells me that I sound so much clearer and louder than how I sounded on the HTC one. Plus my husband HATED when I was on blue tooth with the HTC one, he said it sounded like I was talking behind a grinder or a blender with rocks in it. Not the case with the note2, very clear. Plus the final straw was not receiving text messages and missing dozens of calls even with a signal. You will be back to Verizon, trust me it's worth every penny!

Two things, both personal opinions:
1. HTC sucks
2. Tmob sucks more than HTC.
The HTC one actually performs very well, just not sure if every HTC one is plagued with poor sound quality with calls. Since I got the note 2 I can't see how I survived with anything smaller. Great screen, love the multi-task feature and the s pen. And yes, t-mobile does suck.

I have z ultra now and I thinking to change to note 3
What's your opinion for this step?

There are some posts about that. Anyways yuo are in the Xperia forum so you can imagine the answers...I had NOTE 1 and Note 2 and tested Note 3...the Ultra just captured me from the start. I do not see a single reason to go back to Note 3 unless you really love the spen that much, love having extra batteries around or cannot handle the Ultra size.
Cant think of anything else...but I love my Ultra lol

Pretty much this. Note 3 if you want the S-Pen or the Ultra if you want the "waterproofness" (funny looking word, but it is indeed a word ) and build quality.
Build quality is better on xzu battery isn't bad. But no flash. And not sure if note 3 has ir blaster but xzu doesn't which is annoying.

I just sold my Note 3 to get the Ultra last week. For indoor use, the Note 3 camera kinda sucks. Battery life is so-so, only lasts about a day. Build quality on Note 3 feels cheap compared to Ultra. I was never in love with Note 3, it's really just the same old plastic Samsung phone with Touchwiz.
If you have 2 hours, you can see the videos from Erica Griffin. She goes into everyday usage of both phones. In the end she moved from the Ultra to the Note 3. Here are the links:

Well considering her size...even the Note 3 could feel way big huge for her.

It's her preferences ofc, plus if you look at her impression about xzu, it is clear that she likes xzu as her daily driver before going with note 3. And plus who doesn't love a new more expensive gadget hey? yeah the note 3 experience is a bit more complete (sans the real estate of the screen that xzu offered which she like the most about xzu) but that doesn't mean that xzu is a loser compared to note 3, no, far from it. It's just that they were built for different speciality.

I would change my Ultra for the next ultra and nothing else. Every time I see a Note 3 or someone holding it I can't seem to figure out if it's really a Note 3 or a Note 2 or a GS4. It just seems the same phone with some new tweaks is all.
Don't misunderstand me, I had a GS3 and loved it, and last year you could spot a GS3 right away, people here had an iPhone, or a GS3.
With the Ultra you stand out from the crowd, and not only for the sheer size, but also for everything else.
Somebody might mock you for the lack of flash or for the impossibility of changing batteries, but deep down you see most people love it and envy your big toy.
But, more importantly, it's a fantastic beast, it doesn't do anything slowly, it simply works and the stock ROM is the most beautiful I've ever tried.
My 2 cents.

@LordManhattan I must now confess. I miss my xzu I've been without it since Friday. Sony received it yesterday and a 're supposidly going to check whether my stated problems are covered by warranty. ( I hope they are ) before I sent it I didn't double check boot loader after ta restore. But I think it's quite rare that it would still be unlocked.
Anyway after using my HTC one since I've been without it I've now decided I'm gunna stay with xzu and not get HTC one max. :good:
You got your phone back yet?

One tip though. Call them when they're working on it. My service center has anew online log of what they've done, and I also knew which day they were going to work on it, but I didn't call them to say that they had to swap the display, so I'm blaming myself a little. Don't trust them to actually do what they are supposed to do.

No that's what I'll do in morning now. I always phone ask how it's all going in case they say there not sorting much I'll kick off. I really hope on the xz1u or xzu2 however it gets called there is better camera with flash and ir blaster. I would completely love the xzu if it did. Bit my mind keeps straying still.

@romano Man first of all you are no offence crazy note 3 don't even stand near ultra it's like you are comparing a rolls to a ford ......ford could fool you with some add function's but rolls is rolls.....
@paulotex Oh god Erica do you see her hand's an iphone is bigger for those if you give her an iphone and a nokia 1100 she will jump nokia to fit her size ....... she just foolin around.........
im a very sporty person, what made me get the note is when during the summer i will be jogging alot and riding my bike.. i figured this wouldn't be possible so i got the note 3. However if someone here can convince me that can happen without a problem i may be switching over because i love large screens =)
I've had both and I prefer the xperia ultra. I watch a lot of media on my phone so I went with the bigger screen. Not a fan if touchwiz either having the gpe ROM for the ultra was another reason. The only thing is don't expect to take it to the gym or anything.

Well, I skate a lot as I play hockey and I got a tiny LG Thrill 3D phone (just wanted a $ 50 cheapo) for the Ice Rink because the Ultra is too big but to be honest, even the Note 2 was hard to deal with when skating because I was compromising my crossovers etc since I had the phone in my front pocket.
But is I was jogging or on a bike, I would think it is easier to manage as you got more places where to keep it without thinking that if you slip like on the ice you can destroy it.
Not sure man but I would go back to Xperia in my very biased opinion
