Users who came from Note 2 - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I'm thinking about it. What are your views?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app

The camera on the One seems a little less reliable (im getting more out of focus or slightly blurry shots) but people have said an update is coming that fixes it. The design of the One makes Samsung look like a bunch of amateurs. The screen is much better too. I'm not sure why, but no one ever mentions how poor amoled displays are out in sunlight. You can't even read them! But the One is nice and clear just like other IPS displays. Battery life is enough to make it through a day easily and I'm really liking the boomsound speakers.

I just wish it had the same battery life. I'm not complaining about HTC's battery life but it's just not as good as the Note 2 but understandably so.

I loved my Note 2, but this has been a welcomed change. For me, the Note 2 was just a little too big and I think that this is the sweet spot.
I can honestly say that I've never used a phone that is this close to the complete package. I don't think you will regret it if you switch, the HTC One is flat out superb.

Do you miss the screen size?

I'm still waiting for my One to be shipped, but I have used the demo at my work a few times and I can tell you that I won't miss the screen size at all. I will miss the deep AMOLED blacks when I'm browsing at night (as well as the battery efficiency), but I'm tired of people making a comment about how big my Note II is every time I need to check an email 4.7" is the perfect size for me.

I've said this in other posts - I "feel" like I am missing something, but I don't actually "see" anything missing. I came from Note and Note II so it takes some getting used to, but this is a slick phone, no doubt.

Personally, I'm glad to shed a little bit of screen size in favor of a more manageable, attractive device. The Note 2 is great, no doubt about it, but the HTC One is better. There's no other way to say it.

I like the screen on this device vs my note 2. Also the screen size for this is much more manageable to hold and use rather than the note 2. I miss using one hand. Lol
The only thing I miss is the battery. However I placed an order for a battery pack in case I need it.. lol

Oh and I prefer build quality rather than plastic. You can really feel the plastic after holding an HTC one. Bwahah

At first it was a little weird to adjust to screen size. But have had phone since this morning and not really missing extra screen. And phone fits beautifully in my hand unlike note 2. That's def a huge plus

i miss the screen size when i'm reading emails, text messaging or surfing the web. it's not to the point that i can't/won't adjust to a smaller screen. battery life so far has been in line with my expectations, meaning it's been enough to get me through my normal workday. i knew going into my "trial run" that the One could not compete on the battery front. yes, the One is easier to maneuver vs. the Note II but not so much that it would sway me away from the Note II. one thing is for sure, the One is one sexy a$$ kit that works well and has not let me down relative to the hype. my decision is which one will get used most often... right now, my Note II has temporarily replaced my laptop (UltraXPS) on flights to/from client sites and when attending meetings (which averages about 4-5 hours every day). the One is being used as my business phone. my plans now are to keep both devices.

This is exactly how I feel! I really, really love the Note II, and it's only been a couple of days with the One, but I definitely still "feel" like I'm missing something or leaving features behind. It's some combination of the removable battery, the screen size, the S-Pen (used infrequently, but cool when I do) and yes... a few of those gimmicky "kitchen sink" features Samsung throws in that are actually useful.
The One is clearly an awesome device, so I'm giving it time. This is a trial run for me as well, and I feel like I'm right back where I was last year with the One X+ vs. the Note II. It still boils down to a "beauty" vs "the beast" choice, and I'm not quite sure where I fall this year.

[Q] Have A One X, But Want To Try A Note. Thoughts?

I'm pretty much on the fence of trying a Note. I was against the Phablet look in the beginning but I have pretty much tried every device that has made a mark on this forum and am thinking of giving it a go. Just looking for some opinions/thoughts on this.
Are there any advantages/disadvantages?
Do you think it's a even trade?
Thanks.

The note is a great phone. Really in a league of it's own. If you can find a trade it would be worth it. I wanted to try a one X but could not give up the few perks the note has over the hox.

Mainly the size. Texting on it won't be a issue but just talking on it.
What are the perks you speak of?

Its not nearly as bad as you would think. You get use to the size in about a week. Then any other Phone feels like a little toy. One thing for sure, one you watch some videos on YouTube on the note, you'll never want to watch then on anything else.

Size. Great screen too. Overall a great work horse for a semi power user.
I use the spen for quick notes when I am in a call or a quick thought. Watch YouTube like a fiend on the huge screen. Also use it like any great new phone and stream music to 3 different BT devices. The battery life can be hit or miss at times but i have an extra battery and an 8100 maH battery pack to charge with.
I've thought about a nexus many times but can't let go of the note. Next phone will have to have at minimum the same size screen and probably be 1080p

I flop around. I had the iPhone than the Meizu, Galaxy Nexus and now the One X. I do use my phone all day for everything so I think the Note is ideal for that.
Do you guys think I'll be taking a major hit as far as the one x screen vs the note screen? Or is it user preference?

Get a used i717 Note cheap as you can, try it, then I think you might have a One x for sale. LOL. Far as the screen goes, I've never even held a One x in my hand mind you, if I had microscope eyes maybe.

Do you want to go for a note 1? It's a 1000 times better to go for note 2. I had been using htc 1x but did not like the idea of unlocking the bootloader stuff from htcdev. So sold it within 1week of purchase as I bought 2nd hand.
Note 2 is really nice if you can come to terms with the massive screen. Display of note 2 is better than 1. Htc one x screen is nicer but smaller.
Major difference is the battery which runs out for 1x within a day of moderate usage. Whereas note2 lives to almost 2.5 to 3 days.
1x overheating is a major pblm. Note 2 never clocks more than 32 deg but 1x shoots to almost 45 deg normally.

I think giving the note a try is a good idea. Battery life will be an adjustment. It seems I charge mine 2-3 times a day.
The screen and features more than make up for the battery deficiencies. I don't even over clock mine and it never lags. I'm using Padawan v6.2.
I am waiting for an update to JB. The point of having the Note is being able to use the SPen. As soon as we get some project butter goodness, well, what more could we need?

Been trying all kinds of battery solutions myself. Have been carrying an anker 8100 mAh portable charger for a long time and now trying to just carry a spare battery. Seems like it is about break even 14-16 hours use. All day BT on and a lot of audio streaming. Few calls and possibly 20-30 texts

Samsung GS3 LCD/Digitizer shattered. Thinking about a DNA.

So I had my GS3 for about 3 months before it experienced a 2 foot drop shattering not just the digitizer but the LCD as well. The phone was a good phone, I originally had an Incredible, moved up to the Rezound (which I loved) and then the GS3. What I have learned about Samsung is that the build quality isn't as solid as HTC's (from my experiences). I was thinking about going back to HTC with the DNA.
I just wanted some input from people who own the phone and what their thoughts are about it. Practicality, Functionality, BATTERY LIFE (very important to me) and etc.
Any comments, concerns or suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance

For all intensive purposes the battery life is the same, if not slightly better than the s3.
And functionality and practicality is determined by you, we can't answer it for you.

Battery life, for me, is leaps and bounds above my s3. I NEVER got 5 hours of screen time on the s3.
Please don't touch my "Thanks" button, it doesn't like you...
Hmm. I am surprised to hear that about the battery life. I haven't read too much about the development of the DNA, is there the whole S-On or S-Off thing that the Rez had? haha
Do you guys notice a difference with the Quad core setup? GS3's dual was very quick and responsive.
Our phone is s on for the time being unless you want to send it to someone and have it opened up. But it really doesn't matter. Only things it changes is that we can't change the splash screen and radios and we have to use an app to flash kernels, besides that it is fine.
And it isn't any smoother per say, but i have seen the s3 get laggy every once in a while, that doesn't happen on the DNA. And apps definitely open faster on the DNA. And very intensive games run better.

I have the S3 and DNA and the battery life is virtually identical for me. Get about 4 hours screen time on both and about 15 hours with a full charge. I have the quad core S3 (international version) and the difference in performance is noticeable. On my S3 (which has 1gb of Ram) I would get lots of redraws on the home screen. Sure custom Rom's/kernels helped but did not totally resolve them. On the DNA I see no redraws or lag. Overall I enjoy the experience of the DNA more than I do my S3 so unless I am going on a long trip, my S3 stays in my desk drawer.
thank you guys for the replies. My main concern is S-Off, I know on the rezzy it made a huge difference (way easier to flash kernels/roms and etc.) Hopefully it isn't as complicated here with S-On. And I'm glad to hear about the battery life. I will most probably be purchasing one soon.
Definitely going to invest in good case.
***EDIT
only thing I am concerned about is not having an SD card slot. -__-
With s on you flash roms like any other phone, and kernels you use an app called flash image gui to flash the boot.img then you just flash the modules in recovery.

Lol if battery life is a concern you are definitely looking at the wrong phone. If anyone tells you different they are in denial. Htc, along with every reviewer on the net about the Dna have all acknowledged the poor performance of the battery.
If you are looking for the best phone out, the note 2 absolutely destroys the DNA. The only thing the dna has over the note 2 is screen resolution.... on paper lol. The note 2 screen is amazing. Honestly just grab one and take a look. Add in the amazing software ( split screen, pop up browser, pop up note and pop up movie player that can all be on the screen at the same time), spen, redonkulous battery life, sd card slot, ability to replace battery and amazing support and you have greatest phone on the market. Hope this helps!

Lol its funny that your phone seems to be the anomaly. Everyone, including HTC THEMSELVES, have acknowledged the poor battery performance. Just look at the size of your battery vs. The amount of pixels the dna is pushing. Do the math man there is reason everyone ( except for a few in denial dna owners) has pointed to the battery peeformance. Living in denial my friend. If you like your dna, kudos to you. Enjoy carrying that phone charger around all day.
If the only bad thing you can say about the note 2 is the size thats a personal thing. Im 5 11 and this phone fits in my hand and pocket beautifully. My girlfriend is 5 5 and she has no problem what so ever with the note. That speaks dividends to how great the note is if the only bad thing you can say about it is the size. Note 2 ftw

Umm....no. are you serious? Look at the polls around net of touchwiz vs. Sense vs. stock. Most people prefer stock, then touchwiz and lastly sense. One of the biggest drawbacks of sense is the recent app drawer. Its beyond puzzling. Why would take up entire screen to see recent apps, including cutting away the app drawer, pull down menu and home screen? Very inefficient.

My favorite feature is the remote control

So far not blown away by this device. Blink is a bit limited. I think I prefer flipboard or scope. Havent really played with the camera yet, will do this weekend. Performance is really not much better than the hox. I'll use this for the week I guess and see comparisons between this and the sgs4. This screen is smaller than the nexus 4 also, some apps look smaller. I think the sgs4 will have a bigger screen and similar remote control? Anyone else not super impressed thus far?
Not too impressed with mine either. Buttons are absolutely horrible, build quality isn't blowing me away either. Might stay with my nexus 4 and it's sane button arrangement

I understand that but it's comments like the Gnex 4 screen is just as good that cracks me up! I have a Nexus 4 and the screens are night and day different!
I sold my Note 2 last week and that screen is no where even close to the One's screen..
Sometimes I enjoy threads like this as they make me giggle! I view XDA as entertainment for the most part.. LOL

Nexus 4 screen was horrible if you ask me.. and i was coming from a HTC One X when i bought my Nexus 4..
Nothing compares to this screen tho.. its like apples to oranges , peaches n plums
Hey , when you calibrate the nexus 4 screen in can look good
I like how the display shows more on the nexus 4 thats all.

I'm not impressed with the s4 either, I wanted am xperia z but it was too late with a bad display. I've got a note 2 so the s4 is nowhere near enough of an upgrade and touch wiz is a nightmare

The nexus 4 display is just fine, it's a much better ratio as well

Yea nexus 4 screen isnt its weakest con. I think the battery and camera are worse. But I'm surprised how good the remote control worked better than my 3 remote controls I usually have to use. That note2 was a little too big and heavy but its next iteration I heard may be aluminum. It may be worth waiting for that.

The Nexus 4 has a nice screen but it's nowhere close to the One screen..
The only thing I like about my Nexus is the quick updates direct from Google.

It seems a few of us disagree with you.
the phone is great but i feel that sense slows it down =/ i got my phone today renewed my contract with an early upgrade paid almost 500, and now im slightly regretting it.
Shouldn't be stuck on stock Sense for long. I think once someone gets an AOSP-based 4.2 ROM up and running smoothly the One will be good to go.
Here's to hoping the so-called bootloader blunder will continue for a while to attract some good developers. If HTC shuts it down then this device will more or less suck compared to Nexus 4. ( just my opinion, AOSP > all OEM skins and is more important (to me) than hardware specs)

I'm usually the first one to criticize Sense, but I haven't felt like it's slowing down this phone at all. There's the occasional jerky animation, usually just when adding widgets in the launcher, but that's about it.

Unless you're using pie controls the menu bar takes up as much screen as the nav buttons.

galaxy s4 active vs. Htc One

I know the screen of the S4 Active has changed to TFT. How is that compared to the screen on HTC One?
I'm going to look at and possibly purchase the Active today. I will report back with my findings.
So I went to look at it... it took me less than 2 minutes before I decided I had to have it. So I bought it. It is a REALLY nice device, and the screen is nicer than the regular S4's. Compared to the One, the screen is just a hint brighter on full brightness, and pretty much on par with colors. I think the One might be just a tad richer, but that's about it. No doubt, the Active has a gorgeous display. It seems more responsive than the One as well. Definitely happy with my decision.

It's awesome. I like it better than the One believe it or not. It's noticeably more responsive, the screen is amazing, and it doesn't feel anywhere near as fragile as the One. The hard buttons are nice, but will take some time to get used to. The only thing about it is the dialer, man is it hideous.

I don't know of who actually likes the look of TouchWiz, but as a Samsung owner myself, I do agree its more ergonomic and has better controls/options than Sense, but Sense is a much better looking UI

That I can agree with. As much as I love HTC phones, the Epic 4G Touch is still my all time favorite Android phone. Being back on a high end Samsung device is nice, reminds me of the glory days

Screen is nice and on par. Battery I have found to be not only better than the HTC one but also the original s4 as well.
That's without using any power saving apps or settings. I'm going to take some photos with both and compare them. I may post them here if anyone is interested however it's cloudy and raining today.

So, it seems thats "4ultra pixel" looks about the same as 8mp active camera, save for the zoom in detail loss.
The charging port bump and the front physical buttons are a definite NO.

Ever heard of the Sony Xperia Z? Hideous buttons on a High-end phone? No thank you. However, the TFT screen does look pretty nice. I'm sure if HTC wanted to make a water resistant device, it would be on par with the Xperia Z and wayyyy nicer than the S4 active.

Selling my One
The screen on the Active is sick. I think it looks better than the One. I might sell my HTC One or keeping it. I'm falling for Samsung once again until the Note 3 comes out in fall.
Just got my S4 Active today...
I really like it much more than the "original" S4...
It just feels much more solid and the screen is beautiful... used it for about 30 min then I sold my HTC ONE

Switching to the HTC One (or any smaller phone)

I've been slowly making the switch from my Verizon Note 2 to the HTC One on T-Mobile and I've quickly learned a few things.
1. That initial realization that the Note just can't be compared to any other standard sizes phone. There is no way I could say either the One or the Note is better just because they were designed for two completely different ways of use. But the only thing I'm going to miss from Samsung is the multi-window feature. I'll live without the pen.
2. Removable storage. there was something really convenient about being able to swap SD cards depending on my day. I have a music card and a video card that I would switch out if I was going to work or just vegging on the couch while beaming videos to the tv.
I've seen many times people talking about switching phones and almost immediately coming back to the Note, but there's a more specific switch I had to make in my daily routine to make me not want to come running back. I mean, the One is in no way a small phone, but when set next to the Note, it looks like a 4.3 inch phone. That's where I'm having to make the switch. The fact the my phone needs to be a phone is where the One becomes a better fit for me.
TLDR Peace yall. I'm moving to the HTC One.

You'll be back. No worries, we'll welcome you as soon as you figure out just how productive that massive screen is.
No, it's not a perfect phone. However I've adapted a few minor things in my life to accommodate the Note 2, and I am all the more productive for it.

Yeah, HTC, and Verizon did such a good job keeping the rezound, and the thunderbolt up to date. I hope that this works out for you. I will say that Ihave htc phones, and this one, and the signal isn't that much better. Plus I have never had this phone go into bacon mode like my 6 rezounds.
Today, young ,men on acid realize that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciences sharing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are just imaginations of ourselves And now to the weather.....

Sounded like he was being sarcastic. The rezound took forever to be updated to ics. I had it months before Verizon updated it. I sold the phone before it got that update. Lol I love HTC but the Note owns the One in real world use. But to each their own

I left Verizon in April this year and made that stupid decision to try tmobile again. In fact I too had the HTC one. I loved the phone, so smooth. I just couldn't live with spotty coverage and no signal at my office. I came back to Verizon this month and have the note 2. Everyone tells me that I sound so much clearer and louder than how I sounded on the HTC one. Plus my husband HATED when I was on blue tooth with the HTC one, he said it sounded like I was talking behind a grinder or a blender with rocks in it. Not the case with the note2, very clear. Plus the final straw was not receiving text messages and missing dozens of calls even with a signal. You will be back to Verizon, trust me it's worth every penny!
Sent from my Verizon Galaxy Note II
Two things, both personal opinions:
1. HTC sucks
2. Tmob sucks more than HTC.
The HTC one actually performs very well, just not sure if every HTC one is plagued with poor sound quality with calls. Since I got the note 2 I can't see how I survived with anything smaller. Great screen, love the multi-task feature and the s pen. And yes, t-mobile does suck.
