I have a suspect faulty S3 (see very deep sleep thread) and thinking of returning it. Question is, who do i return it to?
I brought it from CEX (second hand) but have a local Samsung Service centre. Will any do a straight exchange, or will they both be a pain and have to send it away?
Anybody got experience of either's returns policy?
Cheers
Not sure as Samsung may not give second user warranty .Normal to send to a service centre not exchange .

Apparently we have a samsung service centre at a Car Phone Warehouse in our town. Will they exchange there or send it away aswell?
Read what the people are telling you, first, then repeat your questions, huh?
He clearly stated (and I think he's right with that) that MANUFACTURER can limit the warranty to first user only, therefore you should go to the SELLER, who is your partner in the deal related with sec hand phone.
Of course, you can do whatever you want but don't be surprised ending with paid repair/exchange.
If CPW is still a Samsung service centre at the premises you go to they may ask a tech to look at it while you wait .
Its not going to be exchanged straight off on just your say so .
But the only real answer to your question is from Samsung .

No receipt?
Ask the guy who sold you the phone if he still has the receipt. You can use it as a warranty at the shop where he bought it.
By the way, at Samsung they try to fix it first. Then if they can't, you get a new one.

Been searching on here and other forums but cant find a definite answer....
There are a few brand new S2's on eBay, off people who've had upgrades etc but are happy with their existing handset so fancy making some money out of these sought-after phones and am thinking of getting one, but have read conflicting opinions and views as to whether or not they come with a warranty!
I'd have thought that, provided they've never been registered with Samsung that it should be ok!
Anyone had any experience themselves with this type of thing?
Cheers

Thats the problem though.....when people get their free upgrades, they usually don't get a receipt for the phone....just the phone itself - so no purchase date or anything. I think that the serial number on the phone provides proof of manufacture...so that should surely satisfy Samsung??
I was just wondering if anyone had actually had this situation and needed a repair...?
Yes and no. Yes, if whoever you bought it from is an authorized Samsung retailer. No, if they're not. Go to the Samsung site and read the warranty terms. It's pretty cut and dried.
Well like i said with 1 you have warrenty without 1 ya stuffed, dont make a silly mistake and buy 1 without 1 even if it is that little bit cheaper!!!
Well iv been in the same situation but Samsung customer support representative from my country(Romania) told me that as long as i have a bill of sale anything like that i can have 2 years warranty no matter if the bill is on my name or not.
Just to add to the thread....
I bumped into a friend today who I knew was also after an S2, and she told me (with a BIG smirk on her face) that she'd managed to get one off eBay this week - one of the unopened, unwanted upgrade jobbies - and she's already been on the Samsung site and registered the phone without a problem, no proof of purchase or anything was requested....just the IMEI/serial number!
She said she managed to get it for £420.....almost a hundred quid less than the few sites that do have them in stock here in the UK, are asking for them!!!
So it seems provided that the phones are new/unregistered...you're on a winner!
(Saying that, I've just noticed one S2 I was watching, has just gone for £520!! wtf!!)

Tell her to take the smirk off her face. They're going to ask for an invoice from an authorized dealer once its received at the repair depot. If they think the invoice is questionable they'll ask for a credit card receipt or canceled check or contact the dealer directly. I've had this happen to friends with Sony and the claim of "but I paid cash" or "it was a gift" held no water.
this happens all the time. No receipt = no luck. For all they care you could take in a rock and say its the samsung galaxy s 5 No receipt. No repairs.
God help you if you have a problem, because Samsung won't!

I seem to be in a unique position to answer your question. I bought a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 for my wife a few months ago. The tablet kept restarting, so I contacted Samsung. I wound up sending it to their service center. At that point I was told (rather brusquely) that Samsung considers to warranty on any of their devices void if the device is purchased on eBay. They were not willing to even check it unless I paid a $150.00 deposit. So, if you buy any Samsung product on eBay, eBid, or any other online only seller, Samsung won't warranty it. You can ask for a helping hand, but all they'll give you is the middle finger!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings!
I understand this is not the most appropriate place to post this, but I'm sure many of you have experienced the Samsung Repair Service Centre (I would post this in a Samsung sub-forum but I couldn't find one) and you will be able to give me some advice.
So, if you want the whole story of how my phone got broke, read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28416155#post28416155
In short, I completely broke my Samsung Galaxy Ace plus the day after I took it out of the box. It's seemingly 100% bricked (literally no sign of life, no lights no screen no sound, nothing).
I phoned Samsung up a couple days later (after nobody replied to my emails) and I organised it to be repaired.
It's been 11 days since I sent it back.
I phoned on the 7th day to ask if it had even got there because there were no updates on my samsung product repair status page since the day I first phoned them up. I also asked if the address I was given was right (Just put on envelope "FREEPOST SAMAN REP", that was it) because it sounded invalid.
I gave them the IMEI and was told that it had reached them. I said thank you and goodbye.
Yesterday, my product repair status had finally updated to : Cancelled by ASC Non Defect (Working properly)
I rang up again.
I was on the phone for 10 minutes with this guy and he told me that they had no record of my phone arriving. He handed me on to his supervisor who I spoke to for a further 20 minutes.
She confirmed that it had not reached them yet or it had been improperly logged or it was lost in the mail.
I sent her a copy of my proof of postage through email in case it was the latter, so they could "organize something for me if it comes to the worst case scenario"
Knowing their reply rate to my emails, I doubt they'll even see it.
So, I sent off my broken phone to them like they told me to, and now they've lost it... or the address they gave me was indeed wrong like I originally expected, however it has not been sent to the return address after 10 days. I doubt the Post Office is at any fault here.
I understand how at the beginning of this mess I was at fault. I made my phone faulty through my own carelessness...
However, since then I feel like there's been an awful lot more Samsung carelessness. And it sounds like if they don't find my phone they won't even replace it, otherwise the woman over the phone wouldn't have been so ambiguous. The way she said it I expected nothing more than book voucher in return for all my trouble and their incompetence.
It's very troubling to think that my £166 may have only bought me just 1 day of pleasure and many weeks of distress.
Anyway, I'm hoping I can make the best out of a bad situation.
I have very little respect for these types of companies, and I have no problem in wrangling out a few pounds from them when they have wronged me. If this doesn't get resolved soon, I'm very tempted to go to Samsung UK directly and ask politely but firmly for a little compensation for all this crap. Maybe one of those Galaxy S3s.
Me and my Dad have been able to get similar compensations for bad service through a letter and a phone call before.
Maybe I can do something similar here.
Does anybody have any helpful advice?

So my S2 died Sunday 14th, would not turn on no matter what i did wouldnt charge just died. Its rooted every since i got it and never had any issues. So i know rooting it void my warranty but i called samsung UK booked the repair they send the a free post bag send it back on 18th and have my S2 back on the 24th repair and updated with no questions about why it was rooted they just fixed it no questions asked.
I have to commend them for this, and for the service they provide i will stick to samsung for all my future phones due to this great service.
GREAT Job SAMSUNG!!!!! :good::good:
As long as the rooting process/flashing had nothing to do with the phone dying, you should always get the phone repaired or replaced for free
No.They will chuck it back at you if they discover its
Not running stock rom
Water damaged
Your lucky they couldnt boot it up.If they could youd have been hit with a bill for about £180,or got it back unfixed.

In my country we have insane customer rights, if the rooting / flashing has nothing to do with the error on the phone, then they will fix it / replace it.
If the person you are delivering the phone to, doesn't mention that it will cost money, it won't cost anything.
We have additional 5 years of "warranty".
Just wondering if anyone could give me an idea about whats happening with my s2
Sent it away to samsung for repair, the screen under the gorilla glass has cracked for a 2nd time (the phone had never been dropped)
I used the prepaid service to send my phone to them just after new year, i tracked it by royal mail and it arrived and got signed for.
I had been keeping an eye on the service request online and today it changed to say canceled under the status, i have tried phone samsung about what this meant for my repair, the guy on the phone told me he had to send an email to the correct department to get me an update on what is happening and have to wait 24hrs for their reply.
Just curious if anyone here has used this service before? is this a normal thing to happen or has something gone wrong
The first time i had to get a repair i went though phones4u (uk) so i dont know what the correct practice is here.
Just a bit worrying not knowing whats going on ;/
Thanks
I was wondering what kinda warranty, If any this phone comes with. My phone will not charge or connect to the computer. Guess something happened with the USB port. But does this phone come with a 1 ear warranty? If so wouldnt getting that fixed be covered? I do have insurance on the phone. Id rather not use that if this problem would be covered by verizon or samsung. Also Iv had to have the screen replaced a couple months back. Would that void any factory warranty? Thanks for the help in advanced!
Did you buy through a carrier? Paid full price from a 3rd party? If not from a carrier, I'd contact the phone manufacturer or whomever you bought the phone from and see if they offer any customer service.
Please try to provide more info in your post if you expect a good answer.

Bought it from a verizon store on contract.. I guess i can send them a email or give them a call. Usually people on here know more than those people anyways. SO i was trying to figure out the best way to go about getting it fixed up.
Yeah if its still under warranty and its failing I'd just take it to my local Verizon store. I'd flash back to a stock first to avoid any problems. But your right many have had to get replacements from their carrier. so perhaps some will let you know what to do/expect.
