[Q] I have several question without answer! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi every body,
I have been searching about 2 weeks in these threads but i couldn't find my answers.
I have a T-mobile samsung vibrant phone and I am slightly amateur about changing my ROM.
1- Is there any differences between T-Mobile and Samsung vibrant except sim-Lock? Can I use the ROM which mentioned in sasung vibrant thread?
2- I have 2.1 stock- rooted without CWM recovery yet, can I flash 2.2 ? if yes how(I don't have high speed internet connection so I prefer to flash it on my phone)?
3- How can I use CM ROM? Is it required to have special bootloader or something els? what are the bugs of CM Roms?
4- Please help me,
Thank you thank you thank you

Ok
1. The phone IS the Samsung Galaxy S
T-mobile Vibrant SGH-T959. It comes sim locked fro tmo but it can very easily be unlocked by an app from playstore, if youd like but isnt required to flash custom roms. So yes Samsung vibrant=T-mobile vibrant.
2. The official 2.2 from Samsung is installed through kies mini but dont do it! There probably is an official odin image floating around as well but again dont worry about that. You are at the best place to begin using custom roms. All you need is to flash cwm recovery and its go time. I will link some threads for you. **You may run into some issue not having HS internet connection as there are a lot of files that need downloaded.**
3.In order to use a CM rom, you must have a custom (CWM) recovery. As far as boots, there are froyo bootloaders and gingerbread bootloaders. Most roms are fine with froyo boots, some recommend GB boots, some require GB boots and all will work with GB boots so its best to install GB boots. Any known bugs on a custom rom are usually posted in op. Some bugs in alpha and beta builds might not have been reported yet. Thus far, cm7 7.1-2=stable, cm9=stable, cm10=stable, cm10.1=beta. I havent used it myself but check the thread for bugs.
Read this thread first! It is the vibrant bible from N00B, a must read.

Here is the thread for GB boots. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14588896 You will need odin on your pc to do this.
Hopefully I have helped, if so hit that button.....thanks.

[Q] Problem with touch screen and soft keys

Hello,
I have accidentally flashed a kernel for the Galaxy.
Of course it did not work.
Then I flashed Steve kernel.
I noticed that the Y-axis was inverted and the Menu and Back buttons not working.
Can someone help me?
I don't have any problems with STeVEs custom with my french Galaxy s wifi 4.0.
---------- Post added at 10:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:52 PM ----------
Maybe you should try to reflash the rom? I don't know how to flash the official rom. ^^
Do you have the US version or another version? Because the US one has a capacitive home button, making it not compatible with international versions and vice-versa. If you have the yp-g1 international (physical home button), try the firmwares at samfirmware.com, all their yp-g1 firmwares are for non US versions.
If you have the US version, here is the link for the stock ROM (credits to alltellmobile): http://www.4shared.com/file/zhZjh0EY/package_us235tar.html
Hope I helped!
EDIT: Oops sorry I just saw that you have a German version. Well go to http://www.samfirmware.com/mp3.htm and pick the right firmware version yp-g1. You have to create an account first but it's easy. There is a flashguide in the ROM package and follow that to reflash your device to stock.
It does not help!
I have reflashed STeVEs ROM and the ROM from samfirmware.com.
Did you try wiping all data before flashing?
Yes, with Volume Up+Home-Button+On
And you can't reflash an official rom?
No, I do not find the XXKPQ-ROM.
Edit:Maybe I should still complement that I mistakenly flashed a Kernel from Samsung Galaxy S
Then it cannot be begun any more.
Then I have flashed STeVEs ROM and Kernel and everything was reflecting-wrong.
Can nobody help me?
I see a YP-G1 ROM here. This seems to be the stock rom for YP-G1 in Hong Kong. Let me know if you have difficulty in downloading it (the download page is all Chinese )
1 Day to download.
Tomorrow there are results.
Edit: Download always failed
thanks for thread, helped a lot
It may sound strange but I got used to it now.
Nevertheless, I would like to have a fully functioning player.
Does anyone know how?
Same Problem here
Hi there,
I have the same Problem.
I tried to flash a gt-i9000 rom on my yp-g1 and it failed.
After this i flashed it with odin (etherealromV2.4 and R3_INTL Kernel). Succesful.
My Problem: my y-axis is inverted and the menu and back keys dont work (but they are lighted).
I already tried different combination of roms (etherealromV2.4, IcyFusion_v2.3_G1UEKI8, Klassic_R5_INTL) and kernels (R3_INTL, STeVEs-3.0-EU, TerraSilent_intl-1.3.5). But nothing fixed the problem.
Do you have any idea how i can fix it?
You two that accidentally flashed the wrong rom most likely need to find the stock rom for your respective players and flash back. Don't flash any custom roms or kernels because that isn't going to help you. Go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720457 credits go to zalcimon, and get it from there.

I have a YP-G1CW/XEG (Samsung Galaxy S WIFI 4.0 white - i think for the german market).
I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531850
First i tried it with G1XXKPQ - but i had the same issues.
Afterwards i tried G1ZKC5. Now everything is fine :good:
Even if I flash TerraSilent_intl-1.3.5 and EtherealRomV2.4 all keys are working correctly and the y-axis is normal.

[Q] Upgrading from 2.3.5 to JellyBean (Odin wont detect sgs2)

Hi Guys (and Girls),
Ok so rooted my SGS2 and installed custom kernel and rom about 9 months ago, and sort of forget about it after that.
I am wanting to upgrade to one of the Jelly Bean roms (still looking at kernels). I however wasn't sure what the correct approach to this would be as I came across some threads about rooting the phone for the newer android versions, so this probably sounds like a stupid question but i was wondering if i need to re do the root following the new guides or if i can just install a new kernel and rom.
Just a little bit of extra info, i will be starting from scratch with the phone (ie wiping all data from it) as i want a fresh install of jelly bean. Basically factory reset, but from what i remembered of doing my first rom that doesnt remove the root.
Specs:
Android 2.3.5
Baseband I19200XXKI4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I19100XWKJ2
Build CheckROM Revolution HD 3.1.1
Form memory i used chainfires root guide the first time around.
Any help would be much appreciated.
EDIT: Trying to get ODIN to detect my sgs2 but not having any luck.
http://androidadvices.com/update-galaxy-s2-gt-i9100-official-jellybean-412-xxlsj-firmware/2/
Here is the Jellybean firmware and after flashing it you will loose root access but dont worry u can root it again
---------- Post added at 08:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:23 PM ----------
This is the link for rooting this jellybean firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2031042
Thanks Ankur,
Any difference between that and using one of the jelly bean roms in the sgs2 section? because i am keen on using one of the custom roms, or is it best to do this firmware upgrade before a custom rom?
Cheers
I prefer u the stock one because I m also using the stock one with rooted and I get quadrant score of 5069
And 50gb space free on dropbox
Lol, fair enough, i will give the stock a run through and see how it goes.
Thanks.
Edit: Did a factory reset, put the phone into download mode and odin doesnt seem to want to pick it up. Tried turning on kies in the settings as recommended but it just says the app was forced to close.
Odin and Kies don't like each other, have and search and read about how to get odin working. There's literally one of these threads everyday here
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Try uninstalling the Kies software but keeping the Samsung drivers. If Kies keeps trying to keep the phones output to itself Odin won't recognise it.

[Q] Phone only boots after removing the battery

Hi there,
I recently encountered a very annoying error with the MT15i of my girlfriend and I can't make any sense of it. If the phone is powered down, it usually won't turn on anymore (with rare, unreproducable exceptions). I have to remove the battery for a few seconds and then everything is fine again. Using a "reboot option" in android works fine.
I already tried different kernels (suave, super stock, lupus) and different roms, even stock. Right now I am running Ultimate HD 2.0.3 (because the newest version won't boot).
The bootloader is unlocked.
I hope you can help me find the cause of this error.
Best wishes

strange problem try changing the rom
by the way switching on the phone has nothing to do with rom
it's kernel related
it can be a hardware issue
try locking the bootloader if testpoint method was applied and revert back to ics and sort problems through catlog
First of all, thank you all for your suggestions.

I unlocked the bootloader using the method described at https://sites.google.com/site/projectfreexperia/download/bootloader-unlock , should I still try to relock the bootloader?
As I mentioned in my initial post, I already tried using the original firmware, i.e. stock ICS and sadly, it did not work.
Will a logcat give me information about the shutdown and startup process? Is there any way to get some sort of "kernel log"?
Is there any way to find out, whether it is hardware or software related?

As I mentioned before, I already tried flashing stock ROM and kernel ( 4.1.B.0.431 and 4.1.B.0.587 ) and both of them didn't resolve the issue. The phone still will, most of the times, only boot after I removed the battery for a few seconds.

OK..from what I see. I'm betting you have a bad download. Try to download the kernel again and flash it. If you're tab is up and running you can grab the zip and flash it from recovery...just wipe cache and dalvik cache...flash kernel..but you need to make sure that kernel will boot with the ROM you have flashed...
If you're looking to just upgrade to the newest version of overcome. I would suggest you to get the zip file..wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and format system...then flash the ROM zip from recovery...
Also...are you're recoveries on this device separate from you're kernel or tied together...
---------- Post added at 10:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:12 AM ----------
Edit...I just read that if you trying to flash cm 10.1...you need to restock because of the partition changes...

Second or third paragraph in the guide you linked me to...
Also, based on experience, if you want to upgrade to other ROMs in the future you will have to keep your stock GB ROM file, your gt-p1000_mr.pit, the dbdata.tar and the entire Overcome kit (kernel and ROM). You will need all of them in the future because I've found that to install a new ROM you have to repeat the entire process of restocking to GB, then installing Overcome Kernel and ROM, then installing whatever ROM you want. It sucks, but it's the only way I've seen so far.
My take on this is that you need to go back to stock GB...then overcome...I'll read more to make sure..just thought I'd share this real quick as I just seen it..

But basically...you need to go back to GB...but first you need to flash the pit file from Odin to repartition the partitions...then Odin the GB ROM ...then overcome..its all in that guide...read...read...read.

Man...there is a great guide with pics if you click on the Google docs link...anyway.
You need to flash the overcome 4.0 kernel tar using Odin...let it do its thing..it changing system files. It will boot. After it up...boot to that recovery and flash the wipe all zip( put this on youre device before you flash the kernel )..reboot. You should now be able to flash any ROM you want from this setup..

Model Change to P-1000 from SC-01C., How is this done? Please help me.... ty ty ty

Back to TMobile need recommendations. My S5 I bought used is running F0j4 and is

Stock and lagging as heck. I have always rooted and am almost done with rooting the TMO S5. I am looking for a rom that is complete and does not lag. I have always used the Stock roms on my other samsung verizon phones and felt the most comfortable with them.
Which is the Fastest lag free rom for the TMO s5 and closest to stock minus bloatware etc.
Thanks in advance.

I travel a lot internationally for work. so wifi calling is important to me. I will try the area 51.
Thanks, I want to support the guy that made the hispasian kernel how do i do that.?
i am on f0j4 to use your area51 rom do i need to be on og6? is flashing back as simple as using the bootloader and stock modem tar's in odin and flash back? Then can I flash the v9.6 of your rom onto my phone through odin as well using the pds button? or do i need to find a 0g6 version of the rom and flash that first?

area51 is oj4. if you want to support hispasian kernel you can flash it over the kernel used in 51. You might need to install the correct supersu but i would think it would work fine.

I got rooted I am just getting ready to flash the new rom. I used the hispasian kernel and sent him some love.
I don't need to stay with it if there is something better to run with the area 51 rom.
My question now is as follows? I already am running f0j4 do i need to flash the stock modem and bootloader? Can I just skip those steps and go straight to the odin and flash the rom?

I guess it would depend on the method that was used for getting the phone to OJ4.
If it was a full install then your bootloader is OJ4 which the area51 is based off of.
My modem and bootloader is OJ4 however others have said OG6 works as well too.
If your OG6 or OJ4 then you dont need to flash a modem or bootloader.
Also Area51 and 9.6 are flashed in custom recovery not odin.

I got to Oj4 by OTA I assume. When I bought the phone off of Craigslist it came this way.
I maybe confused in regards to V9.6 and Area 51. I though that Area 51 was the rom and it was currently in Version 9.6.
I have downloaded it from the download tab on this forum link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...t/maverick-5-1-1-improved-edition-v2-t3159387
It says it is version 1 when I download it. Area 51 v1.zip to be precise.
I was also planning on following the instructions on this page #3 forum post to flash the rom. Is this wrong? Am I going in the wrong direction?

Post 3 is not needed if you are on OJ4 already. Area51 and 9.6 are different roms. you do need to flash in twrp and install the rom from within twrp.
so step 4 and 5.

Step 4
Close and then reopen Odin, pull the battery for 30 seconds, pop back in and boot into download mode all with your phone disconnected from your computer. Now grab the TWRP recovery image from here https://dl.twrp.me/klte/ (I use 2.8.7.0) and place into the PDA button inside odin, uncheck F Reset Time and Repartition then flash or click start.
Step 5
When step 4 completes, now you can do the 3 finger boot into TWRP recovery to flash V9.4 of this ROM.

Just for future reference. This section is only for developing. There is a Q&A section where you can post for questions like this. No offense but people always go crazy when others post in the wrong section.
