[Q] xbox music app - Nokia Lumia 920

Hi, two questions about the xbox music app. When i am playing songs there is shuffle repeat and a heart..full empty and broken..what does this mean? And is there an easy way to put songs or albums in my playlists without downloading?was somehow easier on windows 8

Heart = favorite. Increases chance of those songs playing while in full library shuffle.

Smart dj/genius playlist music player?

Are there any music players that can generate a music playlist based upon one lartist or song and uses only the music on your device? Similar to smart dj on zune or genius on itunes? I know you can with apps like Pandora but streaming takes a toll on my data plans

[Q] Random..but ive been wondering which uses more data?

So between Google Music and Pandora, which uses more data (if at all)?
If I listen to the full length of "Song A" in Gmusic and then the same song in Pandora, will one program use more data to play said song?
Been wondering about that for a couple weeks.
IIRC Pandora does some type of 'read ahead' where it will cache or buffer the music you are listening to.. kinda like satellite radio does in case you go under a bridge or something..
I streamed Pandora for a week once in the past and the data usage wasn't what I imagined it would be.. (this was some time ago too)..
Sorry for lack of details, but this is all I have..
You could grab some type of data usage counter and allow your phone to sit idle for 20 minutes to get a base to compare to.. play 1 song w/ google music, then the same song w/ pandora and compare the usage ?
Just stabbing at ideas..
Yea I thought about doing that.. but I would want to get a data counter that will count small bits of data. Would want to find something to measure kilobytes or maybe even down to bytes.
Anyone know of an app that will count data in that small of increments?

Either that or up your sample size so that the smaller denominators become insignificant. Try a playlist of 10 songs or something on both players.
Just get the Offline music importer app. Then you can save all your music or only the songs you want to your device and not have to stream at all saving alot of data. You can also use any music player apply to listen to your music.

I cache my favorite radio stations on Slacker Radio to my SD card while on wifi to save data usage..
Which uses more depends on the bitrate they stream it at. Can't say for sure because I've never really looked into it but my guess is Google Music would be streamed at a higher bitrate than Pandora. Its just a guess though.

im not worried at all about data usage.. im grandfather in for the unlim
Im just curious, thats all
I would assume Pandora uses less bandwidth because every song is optimized for streaming, especially if you choose the 'low quality' selection under Pandoras settings.
Your music library collection may have much larger song files with higher bitrates that have been poorly compressed or maybe with very high quality making it use more bandwidth.
It really depends on your library. Both google music and Pandora have buffers, so that shouldn't factor in against Pandora.

XBox Music on WP8?

Lots of hype about XBox Music, but so far I can't figure out how to use it on my Lumia 920. There's no XBox Music app that I can find. Can anyone help?

You have to subscribe to Xbox Music Pass first.
After subscribing the streaming should be integrated into the Music + Video hub.
You don't need a subscription to stream music you just need to add them to your cloud with the music app in windows 8. If you go to settings then on windows phone you can turn on or off sync with cloud. I do not have a pass but I do have a surface and an HTC 8X and am listening to xbox music right now .
the music app is xbox music, nothing needed to download, it's built into the phone.

I am an Xbox Music Pass owner, but I cannot seem to get all the music in my collection into the Xbox Music collection on my 8X. It syncs a few songs, around 300, but nowhere near the amount of songs I have in the collection on my PC. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong, if anything?
There does seem to be a problem with the "cloud collection" in xbox music for wp8. Here is an issue I had:
-went to download an album from the Store using my paid Xbox Music Pass subscription
-saw that it was already "in my collection" and therefore I could choose between buying it outright or streaming it
-went into Xbox music and turned on "show my cloud collection"
-lo and behold, the artist/album was NOT THERE to download
I had to actually stream the album, go to the Now Playing screen, hit the three dots, tap Download, then skip to the next track and do the same thing. By the time I got to the last song Xbox Music had crashed and the Store wouldn't open. I had to reboot the phone and try again --TWICE-- before it worked.
It's great when it works, but it rarely works. We're all beta testing this, folks.

the xbox music app on both ends (PC and phone) are a mess with management and syncing. personally i just download what i want on my phone via the phone store, it's not ideal (esp if you want a bunch of stuff or have things organized a specific way on the PC) but it's less headache for me right now.

[Q] Syncing Music

This is probably a really nooby question, but how to people sync music to their GS3? My phone won't connect to Kies, and when I copy the songs over to my phone the songs restore to their default info, so I cannot rename my music or organize my albums...
I just drag n drop. Ensure your "tags" are accurate as *most* players use tags to organise music.
Otherwise use a player that allows organisation by folder structure (eg poweramp)

Likewise drag and drop and Power Amp Pro .

I just drag and drop too. The player I'm using is PowerAmp Unlocked.

[Q] Recommendations for a music player

Hi all,
I have an extensive music library - and I'm currently using both Play Music and the default Music app to play the songs.
However it appears that no matter what settings I choose, whether I skip songs or not, both apps with only choose certain songs to play out of the 500 or so I have stored on my SD card.
Do you have recommendations on a good music player (prefer only music as don't watch videos) that doesn't just have a set list of tracks but actually shuffles when it says it is.
Thanks,
Linz.
Poweramp is pretty good but you would have to pay for it
yup, PowerAMP rocks!
there are music players like PowerAmp, N7player, PlayerPro, etc... all have trial versions, maybe you should try these and decide by yourself.

im more of a clean design guy with a serious music library ocd,
always used shuttle+ since it keeps my library sorted with artist and album pictures, its latest beta gives it a more material design feel, and has never let me down.
On the 'free' front, I have used Vanilla Player and would recommend it. It's very capable of handling large number of files, and playlists.

On the 'paid' front, PowerAmp seems very popular. Personally, I have used 'Gone Mad Music Player' and found it very capable too of handling large number of files & playlists.

Both of these players support ReplayGain, which was an important feature for me.
