has anyone ever come across a guide to unlock our bootloader using mac osx?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
Wrong section bud, this belongs in Q&A. I know some of the steps can be done on a Mac, such as Casual. But the Odin steps must be done on a PC. I thought someone mentioned they were working on a Heimdall version that would be compatible for Mac.

Yea wrong section, but your best bet would be to make a boot camp partition or a virtual machine. It worked perfectly this way.

2.-- dvd drive fried so no bootcamp for me!
-excellent idea using a vm! Hope com ports, etc wont get in the way--
Thanks guys -

They shouldn't. On parallels I had issues with com ports, but not vmware fusion, so i recommend that.

parallels worked fine for me

you do know that a ton of android devs actually use mac as their daily driver? It, unlike windows, is supported by AOSP and can be used with almost any tools that linux can.
I can remember if I unlocked using heimdall (http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/) but most things that you can do in odin can be done with it. I wouldnt trust it for a beginner to unlock their bootloader, especially with how deep our unlock is, but for the random flashing (with other phones, unless you are more than a beginner) it should suffice on mac.

I dont get it. Developers constantly provide ODIN instructions when we are blessed with Heimdall.. Its aggrovating...
I use odin, instructions benefit me
Odin works for me
If heimball became more mainstream, id prob use odin still
Why change? It works for me
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
I myself have hard-bricked a Vibrant using odin, having to purchase a Riff Box to fix it cause the Jig was no use.. I notice Cyanogen posting Heimdall instructions and citing why. Here. I have used ODIN with success as well.
I think its BS that I need 10 posts to reply in developers forum. So I'm going to spam mY own topic. Sad really... been on here since 2010

Never needed much help. Anytime I did I usually just googled it. And developers usually post easy to follow instructions

I don't see a question. It looks like you are venting or complaining. What sort of response do you expect?

I think Odin is easy to use too...
you just have to click 1, 2, 3 and boom its done....didn't need to use heimdall at all....
Noob here,
I've looked and looked and haven't seen anything definitive. I have a Samsung GS II (I-777). Someone had rooted my phone for me a while back but now I want to un-root it. I only have access to Mac and have NO idea how to. Everything on here seems to be written in a different language lol. What's the easiest and most simplest way to do this? Sorry if this is repetitive. Thanks in advance!
Rooting is such an easy proccess. Looking at you, I would not recommend it doing by yourself. Rooting will not get you on any legal issue other than warranty cancelation. If you still insist look at the stickied threads in this forum. I myself would like to explain it, but I can't explain it better.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA
Not sure if a virtual machine of Windows would work but I would give that a try if your hell bent on un-rooting.
My question is why do you want to reverse a good thing?

What I meant was that rooting is easy to do. And nothing negatives comes out of it unless you want to get the phone back to store... Since it's a mac and he doesn't have much knowledge of rooting, just let it be.

Well, "looking at you" made me go Whaaaat??? myself. Odd snap judgement from reading one post, which was pretty well phrased from what I saw.
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434020 which should help - and this thread says it should work with MacOS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432. You'll need to do some more searching and learning (start with the sticky at the top of the general forum). If you don't feel confident doing this, then don't. You really aren't going to gain anything by it unless you have a specific need. Or expand on what you're looking for and maybe we can help.
BTW if you don't use it, the difference between root and unrooted is zero AFAIK. Root just lets you do more, but it's still stock i777 if that's all "someone" did.
Well, the thing is, the root that this person did (not me lol) has disabled my wifi. It's the ZedomaxStockKernel. I did some research on this and it seems that using this method renders the wifi useless. I clearly don't know what I'm doing but will read more in regards to this. Again, I've had the phone rooted for about a month now and I haven't done anything different. (Maybe because I don't know how) I wouldn't mind leaving it rooted but if I could fix the wifi issue, that would be great and then maybe I can learn further about this whole root thing. Reading through the forums though, most people rooting have Windows and not Macos. Which kind of leaves me feeling alone lol

And Odin is available for Mac?

Go into the siyah thread (you can do it on your phone). Download the ATT tar file. Open up mobile odin, select kernel. It will open a window to find your kernel. If you download from the xda app it will be in tapatalk_downloads I think. Select siyah_2.1.13 (or whatever it is). Go down to the bottom where it says flash firmware, hit it. If done correctly, the phone will reboot and everything will be awesome
I'll keep an eye on this thread tonight in case you have further questions.
Forgot to mention, the siyah thread is here in the i777 forum, more specifically look in the development section. The download link is in the first post.

Okay I understood almost everything you wrote! Let me start by saying thank you! Couple of questions so I don't screw something up!
1. Should I download the .tar file directly to my phone? Would that be easiest?
2. I can't seem to find the thread in the development section, care to spoon feed me?
Lastly, when I googled Siyah it gave my a website but I don't know if that's reliable or not.
Thanks!!
Found it!! Will try today and update!
Did everything exactly to the T. Worked but wifi is still not accessible. It scans for wifi but before anything happens, wifi turns off and then nothing. Any other thoughts on this? This is tough...

Do a factory reset in cwm recovery. You will lose your installed apps and home screen setup, so if you are partial to them, make a backup first.

Trying to use adb on a Mac OSX 10.7.3. Downloaded it and installed it correctly, but my phone is not detected. Adb opens the port correctly, and my phone is set to charge only, USB Debugging enabled.
Is there an extra driver I should install for Mac? Pretty sure HTC only had drivers for Windows.
Phone mounts correctly when on Storage Mode =/
Just for clarity I installed the tools and Android support from the SDK manager

Serious posts only please. I am not trying to start one of those dumb PC vs Macs fights.
Hey guys for those who use Macs, I FOUND THE SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM! I literally had to scour the internet for days and it was so simple I banged my head against the wall.
Apparently if you have easytether it interferes with adb. The solution was
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/EasyTetherUSBEthernet.kext
and to reload it if you need it again.

Sorry about posting in the wrong section. I wasn't 100% sure and I figured since developers mess with adb it would be the closest section to post it in, at least that was my logic anyway.
I also apologize to Opentang. I wasn't trying to be rude. Just didn't want my thread taken over by the jerks that fight over such dumb stuff.
i dont have any bias for/against mac (well maybe a little ), just thought this was funny
I don't really care for the fight, I just think its just something else men fight over when they want to compensate for something *cough*. I go to an engineering school so I hear this crap a lot. The way I see it, about 90% of the time the guys who use PC start it (coincidence? I think not ) and they are just jelly. =D

DO NOT POST IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY DEVELOP SOMETHING
bunch of dicks in this place!!!
Sorry that people are jumping at you for posting in the dev section, but there is a reason we have specific forums for different topics and it has to stay organized otherwise no one would know where to find stuff. This is posted pretty explicitly in every forum.
Anyways as far as rooting on a mac, I gave up on trying to install heimdall. For some reason I kept getting a "heimdall.kext not installed properly" error. I ended up using ODIN in boot camp. If you don't have windows, I know you can download a 30 day trial of Parallels 7 to create a virtual machine. They let you use a consumer preview release of Windows 8 for free. I didn't try ODIN in Windows 8 but maybe it could work. Good luck
Thank you!

Yeah I got crazy frustrated with this one. Here goes. So I booted into odin, which needed the kies driver is memory serves. Ran the Root66 in PDA. Then I rebooted my phone, went into the usb debugging and MTP for usb. Updated my phone, to VRALL4 like the normal OTA updates from VW. ran CASUAL-BackAtchaVerizon-Revision311b with java (build 1.7.0_17-b02). The damn thing went through. Not trying to run sboot.bin through odin. As far as the guides go, you need to click the generic serial to be replaced in casual. Also some guides didnt show what state the phone was in for casual. Just boot up the phone like normal. I'm trying to figure out what other snags i ran into...
