I'm getting my first tablet but am at a loss how to decide? On the one hand, all critics (Cnet, PcMag, Wired, Engadget, Laptop magazine, ect...) seem to universally agree the Ipad-4 is best hands-down, no question in terms of overall quality as a tablet. Then I compared the Asus with the other 2, and was almost certain I preferred the Asus- some critics even preferred it over the Nexus 10 and expandable memory is HUGE (HD movies on 16 or even 32gb non-memory expandable device is unacceptable in this day and age). Or so it seemed. Though critics like the Asus I've read so many user-reviews about screen-bleeding and a sluggish OS, in spite of its quad-core processor Asus almost seems scary in light of the endless complaints. Now it's back down to Nexus10 vs Ipad and Ipad still seems to be better for gaming with its GPU, its app marketplace is also phenomenal.Thoughts?

You can't go wrong with the nexus 10. It has by far the fastest cpu of the bunch and its storage is lightning fast. More than 5 times faster than the asus. Over 100MB/s read speed. Not to mention its a nexus device and will be updated for years to come.

I think it comes down to your preference. Do you want to be tied to Apple's ecosystem? Are you okay with waiting on jailbreaks to iOS to get root?
I have the nexus 10 and love it. I used to have an iPhone and hated I could not customize it. My cousin had an ipad3 but I prefer the nexus 10.
I bought my mom a tf300 and it is a good tablet if you install the custom checkrom ROM.
In the future I plan to get an otg cable for external SD card option. I have a 16gb nexus 10 and it suits me well.

I was in the same situation as you about one week ago. I sold my Asus Transformer Prime (TF201) a few days before XMas anticipating purchasing the Infinity.
I ended up with a Nexus 10 and couldn't be happier.
For me it came down to having to unlock the bootloader in order to ROM/Kernal the tablet; without having a way to relock it back. The expandable storage was the biggest plus for me, along with the keyboard dock I would have bought to go along with it. But having to void my warranty just to get a somewhat smooth $500 tablet didn't make me too happy. Now, once unlocked and running Paranoidandroid/CM10 on probably KTs kernal it's a whole new beast.
The Nexus 10 was smooth right of the box, and even better once unlocked and running PA2.99/KTManta kernal. It absolutely flies. It looks better than expected, has better sound than expected, and hasn't had a hiccup yet. Now, no expandable memory just means I'm going to be using my OTG cable + external 2tb hd's a lot more, but not a big deal to me. I also got my Nexus from Walmart, the postercompany of being able to return/exchange anything, so that made my decision quite a bit easier as well.
The Infinity is plagued with I/O problems along with a whole slew of other hiccups that leave a bad taste in your mouth. As much I had anticipated gett the Infinity for the last couple of months, I haven't had a second thought about it since I've had the N10 in my hand.

Depends on what you are looking to do with it. If you are a student/ business oriented and need media consumption as well, the infinity if by far the best. Great form factor, keyboard with battery, really fast since the updates and overall great support from asus. Just take a look around these boards and you will see the N10 also has its problem. Poor battery, no external storage, sluggishness during browsing, lag during gaming and media playback, very poor support from samsung and google in terms of warranty support (look at all the articles popping up about Samsung basically ignoring the N10). If you look at the comparison sites most of them that ACTUALLY compare the two say that the infinity is much better. Good luck to ya man!

Lol all your doing is confirming my point that both tablets have their problemsand not even the N10 as you so eloquently put it, is without its own problems. Like i asked the op it depends on what he is doing. I could never recommend the N10 for a school or as a business device. The battery life would be horrible and i would not have the external storage to quickly save documents and transfer between devices.Not to mention the lack of the dedicated keyboard. To each their own my friend. Happy your happy with the N10, but i could never go back to it ( mentioned in previous threads that i was one of the first to get an N10 and gave it away to my sister ...) I love my infinity. Its super fast, looks amazing and overall performs its tasks above and beyond what i expect.
Oh and by the way to your point on asus not getting updates as fast as the nexus line....take a look at the galaxy nexus. If experiencing the update a whole 3 weeks before me makes you happy and puts you to sleep at night, by all mean enjoy that. I will take my 3 weeks release plus hardware asus support over getting the updates and having to deal with samsung hardware support any day. Go ahead and try to get the N10 repaired and see what kind of loop holes you have to jump through lol.

Nexus 10 if u want a great stock experience and did not want to void your warrenty. Samsung provides a good hardware support and in case things go wrong the warrenty claims are much easier than in case of other companies. Samsung also has one type of hardware faults which haunts their devices and comes to nitice easily. Third samsung devices are with simple plain designs. Performance wise N10 sits at the top of all android devices.

Again "Poor Battery Life" seems to be unique point for users, not an issue here because I keep track of what apps I have running. I have no problem going for days without charging on normal operation. Then again, I do not sit for hours at a time in front of my tablet. There is nothing wrong with this device as a school device, business I could even say the same 201/700 is even worse performance wise. Just because you have a detachable keyboard accessory doesn't outweigh all the other problems with the Asus, it sure wasn't enough to keep me from taking the device back. Asus support as well- hope you never need it. It took having weeks of having to constantly get a hold of Gary Key and Hai Trat (do you even know who they are? Have a look) on here to have an issue resolved since there policy on the phone is take your information and never call you back- Like you said tho to each his own.. if you enjoy owning an underperforming tablet, in the same price range- that's all you :highfive:

IMO, BT Keyboard also works with N10. BT keyboard sounds a lot better because it is probably cheaper and can be used on other devices too not like the ASUS dock (if you buy a new tablet then you are screwed).

If you say you dont sit in front of your tablet for hours on end....then why would you recommend it as a school or business device...which requires to sit in front of it for hours? Im confused on your logic there....And gary key is the forum head for asus who keeps up to date on updates and any issues we might have. Why is that relevant? You insulted your own intelligence when you suggested that Asus' support is any better than Samsung's. The link is there for you to read thru plenty of disappointed people and if you'd like I could probably link at least 5 others complaining of nightmares with the RMA system. Of course it's ok to disagree, why do you think I replied to your post in the first place? Nothing to calm down about, sorry if you can't take valid counterpoints to your argument.

Very true, but the kicker is that the asus keyboard has an extra battery, usb out and a full SD card slot. So it does offer alot more than a simple BT keyboard.

Also im not a huge Apple fan, nor are most people on here, but if your just looking for the simplest functioning device out there, the ipad might be your best bet. However you will be paying a premium for their hardware.

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but only part of that I can agree with is the lack of external store.
Especially when comparing to Asus; the company that released the Infinity mere months after the slew of issues that plagued their newly released Transformer Prime TF201. Of anyone, Best Buy did the best to their customers by offering to exchange their <2mo old top of the line table with terrible wifi performance, little to no GPS functionality whatsoever (until the later released GPS Extension Kit), complete bluetooth dropout when streaming, an factory unlock program that doesn't unlock about half the Primes it's tried on for some reason, a one-two month wait time on sending it back to Asus for a RMA on the above issues. No, I didn't go through any of that whatsoever when I had my Prime over the course of 3 months.
In response to Gary; he, along with Tien, were brought on to handle the bad press arising from their tablet issues. I dealt with Tien in order to get my Prime RMA'd. For some reason his email wouldn't accept or send anything to my g-mail account, so we used the PM on xda to communicate. At best I would get responses in a few days, other times couple of weeks.
After all that, I was still super stoked to get my Asus Infinity after my Prime sold. Then I realized that in order to get a tablet that isn't laggy, relentlessly stuttering and constantly having hangups, I would have to void my warranty whatsoever, with no way back. And in the off chance the (Asus supplied) unlock tool didn't work, I would have to deal with un-bricking it to try again. Go try to play with one in Best Buy and LMK how long it takes for you to hate it. You can't type "amazon.com" in the browser open page without it lagging.
Don't get me wrong, the Transformer is super nice; it's just riddled with a ****ton of crappy I/O performance issues and lack of warranty from day one. The N10 works with SD cards mounted via OTG cable, so you can use whatever external storage you want (SD Cards, USB HD's, etc); and if anything goes wrong you can relock/unroot and return it for repairs. I'm running ParanoidAndroid+KTManta kernal, but even on the stock AOSP setup everything just works.
Also, most if not all reviews of two point toward the Nexus.

The exchanges they were doing was all under the table according to their return policy, it was not something Best Buy officially endorsed. That was how I got my 700, I exchanged the 201 for it there.

Is this the best tablet out or not.

Have read so many negative comments just want to know if this is the best out or what. It has better spec than any other tablet but all I'm reading are complaints. Mine won't arrive til Wednesday and I haven't planned on buying the dock just picked up that black sleeve that reminds me of origami.

Yes, it is the best 10.1" Wi-Fi Android tablet out there. The raging debate you're reading is about how long it will stay that way.

You will always hear negative things about any tablet when they first come out. That should be expected nowadays.

Yes this is the best out for Android right now and probably stay that way for at least next 4 months or so. The negative comments are just the more vocal ones. More are completely satisfied with device. Like me, and others with none or very minor issues. I'm very satisfied with My prime. Best tablet I ever had and I came from an iPad. Which I loved also but the prime just blows away the Competition at the moment. As with any device, there will be initial issues that are real and effect some users. You have to remember they are the minority. Check out the positive prime thread and you will see how easily this device lived up to the hype and more.

I know what you mean..lol at least I prepared my Ipad got my woman to use. Signing off Facebook apps n such and deactivating my email accounts on there so she can add her info. I'll always still have access to it and have certain places in there locked down. So she can't go snooping in places she shouldn't be at...lmfao I still have to transfer websites/bookmarks, resume, etc.. To my prime though. My jail broken iPad is a great device but I have moved on to bigger and better, The Prime.

Thread should be moved to questions or closed. Best or not is subjective and a waste of time especially when OP has stated it has the best specs.

Naturally, the best products out there receive the most scrutiny, so that's why you're reading so many "negative" things about the Prime right now. That's a byproduct of being one of the best products out there.
And as said already, the comments aren't about if the Prime is the best but rather about how long it will be the best. My personal view is that the Prime is an in-between device that is between the 1st gen Android tabs and the wave of 2nd gen tabs coming out in 2012, but I invite you to do your own research on the Prime and on upcoming tablets and to make your own decision on where the Prime stands.

If there's one thing I'm going to take with me when I die, it's that this world is composed of 99% whiners.
To this day, I still see people whine about the stupidest things about the TF101. Some examples are a few people whining about being able to see the capacitive sensor grid under certain lighting at a certain angle. I've seen some people whine about the TF101 not feeling like a laptop. In fact, I think that's the #1 complaint I've seen about the TF101. People bought it thinking they can use it like a laptop.
I've seen people whine about the background moving slightly when you scroll from screen to screen.
I have the acer iconia, and so I've seen people whine about ridiculous things about that as well. Everything from the metalic back is cold to the touch to the sensor grid being visible under certain light at certain angle to it doesn't feel like a laptop.
Why is it that the prevalent whine for any tablet is that it doesn't feel like a laptop? Why the hell do people buy the tablet with the intention to use it like a laptop? Is there some kind of mental block involved here?
This is not to say that I see every complaint as a whine. In fact, I think there are many legit complaints about design flaws, software bugs, etc. You just have to filter out all the whines to see the real legit and constructive criticisms.
The point is don't just blindly look at the negative reviews. Actually read those negative reviews and try to weed out all the whines.

The Prime is the best tablet with the best Tablet-OS right now.
This could or will change in a few months, but this is normal in these days.

Sorry to say but I am not impressed with this tablet. I want to be, but it is just not happening. I just posted an initial review where you can read the details but to summarize:
- Hard to hold, very slippery
- Horrible keyboards
- SLOW web browser
- Short Battery Life
- No real noticable difference performance improvemant compared to my Toshiba Thrive

See the above edited quote. It seems you do not perceive the device to meet your expectations...easy solution, return the prime and keep using your Thrive as it is obviously a better solution for you.

My big issue with Prime is that it has gotten lukewarm reviews since release, especially by its users. While people were criticizing my fears and predictions a month ago, reality is that Prime is not as big a step forward as hoped, neither in software nor in hardware.
Hardware seems to be flawed with weak WiFi and the chance of getting a device with some sort of hardware flaw, including light bleeds, weak GPS, dead pixels, weak and unresponsive touch screen, screen that is dusty from behind the glass, or a device that just does not turn on, is higher than that of an average new product. Especially when compared to Apple's releases, which - while not flawless - hasn't made me fearful for the products quality that I am buying. I love Android so much more as a software, despite its weaknesses, simply because the ecosystem and much better openness compared to Apple are worth it for me. It pains me to see a device that has flawed and untested hardware.
Second issue is software. Quad-core does not improve anything much and ICS will not improve things other than (hopefully) the browser. Prime has very little RAM, which I think would be much better for an Android device than quad-core. Prime would be a better device with higher-clocked dual-core processor and 2GB of RAM. And you have to remember that the snappiness of software is highly dependent on hardware too, a recent Finnish review pointed out that the touchscreen is simply weak and not as responsive as it should be, making the software seem slow. This too won't be fixed by ICS.
And let's not forget the issue that I raised very early on about the Prime: battery life. Now that users actually have the device, it has become clear that battery life on Transformer Prime sucks. Everybody was up with pitchforks when I made those early predictions, but those were true predictions. Users report 6-7 hours of battery life in actual use, which is far from 10+ hours. Even with fresh battery this is very little. This means that I could not use Prime as the main device for lectures and web browsing while at University.
I will still be buying it and hoping that I won't get a flawed device, since I'm ordering it internationally and returns are a pain. At least it should be better than the original Transformer. But main reason for my purchase is the keyboard dock. If I did not want the keyboard dock, I would not purchase Transformer Prime.

That makes 3 of us. My wife has gotten mad at me a few times... Lol
I love it, but I am itching for some ICS.

Prime or iPad?

Hi guys, heard of this tab before but never found out the specs, and I gotta say, I'm impressed, and it has great support here in xda (a virtuous Rom is good enough for me lol). So I was thinking of buying an iPad this year, especially if the 3rd gen comes out. But really, I'm getting tired of ios( I have an iPod touch), and I also have a galaxy tab 7(old one) which sucks completely. Also, where would be the best place to buy this quad core beast?

Prime, no question. Which software you prefer - iOS vs. ICS - will likely come down as a matter of personal preference. Most people on this board will probably tell you they like the customizability and increased functionality that Android offers over iOS. But the hardware on the Prime is superior as well:
- Better, sharper, and wide-screen display
- Camera is head and shoulders better (arguably the best tablet camera on the market)
- Tegra 3 is a beast
- Ports - expansion slots, HDMI, and USB (with dock) all give the device much greater flexibility and functionality.
- The dock - this thing is way more awesome than a bluetooth keyboard
- FLASH. Apple and Google can pretend it doesn't matter, but we all know that the internet is a lonely, porno-less place without flash.
Plus, I love the spun aluminum design. The iPad is a pretty piece of kit, but the Prime beats it with the spun aluminum and widescreen aspect ratio. The iPad's 4:3 makes me feel like there isn't much difference between holding it in "portrait" or "landscape," whereas the Prime offers two distinct viewing experiences, each offering their own benefits. Don't worry so much about all the talk about wi-fi problems - they seem to be limited to a minority, and you can always take it back for a new one if you encounter problems. Plus, that's why you have the friendly folks of XDA to help

really depends the type of person you are....
for example.... im a straight up hacker, i hack everything i get my hands on..... thats why i chose the prime.... im dying to mod this thing completely....
HOWEVER, the ipad has way better software..... it all depends what you want.... either mod or nice apps....
i'm mostly talking about really good apps to make music on the ipad that the android dont have

In reviews, the prime out performs the ipad2 hands down. Easy choice.

Definitely get the Prime, its amazing, and much more fun than an iOS device which you run out of neat little things to figure out in about 5min. Also don't get too turned off by all of the problems on this forum because people use the forums for support so there will always be tons of issues on here, many of which are only caused by users f**king around with unofficial updates they found online. As far as hardware and software I have had no major problems that went unresolved, my wifi and Bluetooth are also great.

At first i would have said neither (hate ipads) but on my 4th machine i think i got a fully working one, even picked up 10 sats which was a first.. now i would say almost definitely a prime.. sooner or later someone will add http://www.onskreen.com/cornerstone into their rom, that thing looks amazing..

Wait until the iPad 3 comes out before deciding. As of now the Asus Transformer Prime smokes the iPad 2 in terms of specs, but it's to be expected since the iPad 2 is a year old and the Prime is just a month or two. Meanwhile, the iPad 3 will have a Retina Display and either a quad core Cortex-A9 processor or a dual core Cortex-A15. Both options will match or maybe even beat Tegra 3.

Honestly. Just go the store. Try each one, research reviews and what you like and go with it.

I think my biggest beef is what they charge for their products and it isn't always the latest and greatest technology.
I think my fav joke I heard was 'how do you know someone owns an Apple product?

I love the prime very much. But I think this is a very misleading statement. Most everybody has horrible wifi from any sort of distance. In fact the minority is hands down the people who don't have this problem. Like I said, I love this thing, but I'll be very unhappy if Asus does not offer a hardware fix for all the problems we have, at some point.

.Prime hands down, future updates and mods will make this beast something even more beastly than can imagine, once Android OS evolves more and proper use of all 5 cores will be available then this will be a dream machine. The T700 is cool but i really don't see the point of a 1080p screen. If you want to enjoy 1080p then you do it on a TV min 40 inch or so.
Wish there was a way to expand or implement more RAM memory.
Asides from the GPS not working not even once, im so happy with this machine, and it has so much potential. My wifi is always good, battery is fine, all and all hardware is ok its just the firmware that needs improvement.
In the .14 firmware i had a total of 3 reboots and flickering many times.
So far .15 seems ok but its only been 1 day.
Surfing is great, recording is FANTASTIC, the recording sound is so nice also.
I love the that you can film in macro as well.
Keyboard dock is something unique to Asus in Android surfpads and it really is great, would be col if they maybe one day release a better dock with a larger battery and perhaps luminated keyboard with a on/off feature.
I couldnt be happier with this machine, i am going to send it back to see if they can replace it with the new batch that it coming but at the same time i am afraid because its running so great even tho its has some issues (asides from GPS).
Gonna change until i find the 'perfect' one

This isn't true at all. I have a Prime and my WiFi is very nearly as good as my Windows laptop, and just as good if not better than my Galaxy S2 phone. People here complain about poor WiFi performance because they are looking for solutions, but I don't think people who at XDA members represent an unbiased or fair representation of the overall population of Transformer Prime owners.
As far as TF Primes with issues, only .57% of all Primes sold to date have been returned with WiFi performance listed as the problem. In general the return/complaint rate for the Transformer Prime doesn't seem to be very far out of line with the complaint rate for similar products which indicates that there are a lot of happy Transformer Prime users (myself included).

Why I gave up on Prime

Hi guys,
Here is my short story why I have sold my Asus Prime. Some of you can lough at me because few days ago I was laughing at Ipad3. But I asked myself few questions... and changed my point of view totally.
Generally my first tablet was Asus Transformer. I liked it very much. Unfortunately in the first week after I got it I had to send it to RMA. I had dust under screen. I was mad...
After 4 weeks I get it back. After few next days I discover that it creaks - another reason to be mad for Asus.
But I kept it using. Meanwhile I bought Ipad2 just to test it. The first thing I noticed was that every game/app was designed to work on Ipad properly. Nice
graphics, fast and so on. I could not say that about Android and Asus Transformer. There were (there still are) so few apps/games that works in 1280x800 resolution.
Despite all those games and apps on Ipad2 few things forced me to sell it after 2 months of using:
- low resolution of ipad - this was the most annoying thing
- no flash (minor thing)
- no sdcard slot (then It was important for me - now it is not - why ? because I really do not use this... )
It was December 2011. I decided to wait for new Asus Prime. Tegra 3 I thought - man. That is going to be awesome.
In the late end of December I bought Asus Prime. First impressions - WOW!
And then:
- still only few apps/games for tablets
- my unit is creaking - AGAIN! (aaaarrrggghhhh!!!!)
- HDMI broke after 3 weeks! (aaaaarrrgggghhh!!!!)
- battery is drained after 5-6 hours of using (only browsing WWW)
So now when I see that Ipad3 has great Retina display am changing my way of thinking.
I have enough of Asus lies. Yes. I feel cheated by Asus. The battery was supposed to stand for 9 hours. I get 5 and sometimes 6. The same as it was in first transformer (my Ipad2 had 9-10).
I have enough of VERY poor quality of Asus products for 600$!
I have enough of laggy ICS - yes it is laggy as hell - especially when browsing
I have enough of 1280x800 resolution. It got to old...
Am not going to wait another few years for apps/games that are mainly designed for Tablets. I can imagine how long will it take to see apps for Asus Prime Infinity (1080P screen)...
Yes - am aware of this that Ipad3 does not support flash. But it not a big problem. Only 1 site I visit uses this technology. Yes - there is no sdslot in Ipad. But do I really need this? No I do not.
I asked myself a question. What is the most important for me in tablet:
- the highest resolution it can be - for now it is Retina
- I want to have A LOT of games/apps - for now iOS is the only option
- I want fast and smooth system - again iOS is the best. ICS is much more better than Honeycomb but it has no chance with iOS
- I want my tablet not to creak!!!
Am not using only theory. I had Ipad2. I know how it works. I know it has some limitations. But I want a tablet that has plenty of apps on it. I want tablet with super resolution. And I want a high quality products. Not Asus **** that creaks...
I will never ever buy anything that is made by Asus.
Of course I respect Android. This is VERY good system. Full freedom. But one thing kills this system. It is poor quality games/apps. They are fine for Phones with small screens. But how many of them works in full 1280x800 ? Few....
And that is why am changing my tablet.
I wonder how many of you are interested in deflecting to Ipad3?
PS - oh and I forget to mention about non working GPS and poor WI FI...
PS2 - am still using Samsung Galaxy II as a mobile. Am not going to change it for Iphone...

I'm not deflecting to Ipad but I do respect your viewpoint. my batteryvlasts 9-10hrs. and tablet doesn't creak. plus I have tons of great apps n games. in my Neo Geo emulator alone I have 34 games.
but I'm not posting to convince you otherwise of your experience. all I can say is good luck with it. make sure when you get one to check out ipadforums.net for all latest n greatest info on it. jailbreaking info and guides in there also.

Get an ipad and get out?
You wont have muti-tasking out of the box. Have fun being locked down.
RMA/Return/Swap and get a new prime.

Not I. I personally can't stand IOS and the resolution of the prime is more than fine for me. I have a 1080p TV for most of my movie watching, and mkv movies look perfect I think on the tab when I need it (IE Airplane). Prime is the best tablet I've ever used.
To each their own, hope the Ipad works out better for ya.

Well believe me. Am not happy about this. But I just feel bad with Prime. You know it is very expensive product and still I see no diffidence between TF101 and TF201. I like it but I have to sell it. It is so called toxic love - hahaha.

Dude i have SNES, Playstation, 64, Sega. the apps on this thing is insane, you should try overskreen/stickitt.
HDMI, the new iCrap doesnt have that.

Hmm maybe because that is why the forums are for? Imagine 20% of people reading this thread wants to or already have exchanged their primes for ipads.

Good luck living with the following dude:
Deliberate downgrade of the camera to 5mp even though Apple use millions of 8mp versions for their iphones.
Pushing Face Time as a main feature then only using a VGA front facing camera.
No ability to upload to browser ie, adding photos to image hosts.
No ability to transfer files through Bluetooth.
No ability to connect to HDMI source without purchasing expensive peripherals.
No ability to plug in USB drive to transfer files.
No ability to plug in an SD or micro SD to increase storage capacity.
No access to the file system to access, move or delete files.
No ability to customise the homescreens with widgets or launchers.
No ability to use different icons without jailbreaking.
No Flash videos on websites.
Etc etc.
If Android ran their tablets with those issues, the OS would be slammed throughout the tech world. For some reason Apple reviewers don't mention any of these major shortfallings.

It's a known issue that if a reviewer posts anything apple does not like, they do not get review samples next time.
The truth is some people should use iOS. The OP is seemingly one of them. However I have to wonder about the lust for a high rez screen on a 10" device.. I wonder if he knows none of the software supports it yet.
The fact of the mater is right now a random person who buys a tablet is probably 75% of the time an iPad buyer.
However with so many people with android on phones, in time more will choose the same OS for a tablet.

But I also don't understand why you felt the need to post this thread. I am sorry you weren't happy with the Transformer Prime, but I don't know why you feel the need to justify your purchase of an iPad to anyone. It isn't helpful to people who read these forums looking for info on their Primes and I seriously doubt that the majority of people really care about what tablet that you find is right for you.
If you look at your poll now, you can see that the 20% of people who switched to an iPad is now a much smaller percentage. Why? Because this is an Asus Transformer Prime forum, not an iPad forum.

The funny thing that strikes me when someone is unimpressed with a product to the point of selling it for something else, i.e.: it's competitor, is that implied notion that the competitor's product is inherently better.
--The Prime may not have a display of the "New" iPad, but it is in it's own regard, awesome.
--I, like others have stated, consistently get 8.5 to 10 hours of use. Obviously, battery life depends on what you're doing...
Also, people seem to think that because it's an iPad that it just works...
IT IS SUBJECT TO THE SAME FAULTS AND FAILURES AS ANY OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICE! Meaning, sometimes it will work FLAWLESSLY, while other times you're hating yourself for buying a piece of sh!T.
As others have stated, you don't need to justify your purchase to anyone... just be happy with what you got... you paid the money and enjoy the fruits of your labor -- regardless of the brand.

Worth buying one now?

I'm potentially getting a used one today to replace my iPad. I'm moving from the apple ecosystem to android. Had an android phone now for a while and would rather have a tablet as well versus incomplete syncing of the two.
I last had an android tab in January and the app scene was very bad for tablets, and I read the prime had a lot of issues.
Did either resolve?
I'm getting it cheap, so I don't mind the infinity coming out and may switch to it later. But want to get a head start on moving my extensive ecosystem to google

As a Prime owner, my advice is to stay far away from anything Asus. It's becoming clear to me they can't fix the issues in this device. I wish I never bought mine.

Wow... Sadly I don't know an alternative non-7 inch android tablet...

I feel your pain, as I'm also interested in a 10" tablet with plenty of storage, and there are no great options at this point. I'm just trying to give you a heads up. Between the slow ass I/O issues that they obviously can't fix, the firmware releases that keep fixing one thing and breaking 3 others, the cheap parts used (search the forum for LCD mura), the poor design choices (good luck connecting to a far away Wifi signal), and the terrible support (read some of the horrible RMA stories here), I wouldn't touch another Asus product with a 10 foot pole.

maybe the best will be to wait a lil bit more and see the TF700. But in any case, I really don't see the point of buying the Tf201 right now, with the 300 offering a very similar experience (imho there some quite recognisable slow downs overally speaking but it's still close enough for the price difference) for a cheaper price, and the Tf700 to be shipped in the following weeks. For those proficient in french, here is a test of the device

and as far as the wifi goes, it's as smooth and stable as the 300 (if not better). I would look into Samsung if i could do it again or Acer Iconia as a close second.

I have two primes and one 300. I like them all. My unlocked prime with wookie ROM is the best. It is faster than my laptop. Why not buy a prime if your getting it for a good price?

I generally agree with jj here.. I love my Prime. Yes, there's a few little quirks here and there, but nothing as world ending as some people would have you believe. Compared to the other devices on the market, I'd still go with this one if I had to again.
(Now, if a Nexus 10 comes out.. mmm.. bets might be off

That and I just can't see anyone (in their right mind) that would post positive "complaints" on a developer/troubleshooting forum...
My $.02: I have it, it's OK. I would not buy one again. Basically when you buy a Prime keep in mind that you're buying an "almost ready for beta" product.
Bottom line: if you don't mind beta testing for ASUS (yes, 8 months later and we're still beta testing) then go for it!
If you're getting it for $300 or under then do it. Otherwise go for a Galaxy Tab.

I think you have to accept the mindset that you are going to have to tweak your Prime to get everything just right. Coming from an iPad this will be a different experience.
Personally I have experienced all the issues mentioned above on my Prime. I even RMA'd and refunded my 1st unit. However, I have been having a lot of fun applying the different tweaks and experimenting with what works best for my individual use case. I can tell you that my Prime is absolutely BLAZING right now - it is completely stable and performance is beyond my expectations.
I was pessimistic for a long time, but now I know I prefer having the options (because of an amazing developer community) to tinker and modify.
If this is appealing to you, the Prime is a great choice.

well , i think i have been top complainer on the prime. However i love this tablet.
its not perfect yet but i trust in asus that they start working on it now the google tablet is done.
some weeks ago i was really pessimistic but developers like wookie, motley baboo, ckhtml and more, and demandarin for his help with submitting issues, gave back hope.
and tbh, asus support has been great since tf101 however something went realy wrong with ICS on both devices , cant ignore that.
conclusion: for a good price i would buy it. buy with s/n c4 or higher.

keep calm and see what asus is offering in the future. their new devices is still kinda like in beta mode, endless problems waiting to be fixed. im not even sure nexus 7 is safe to use. best is hold ur horses and see what others review abt it.

the TF700T is supposed to come out next month at $499, which is what the prime sells for new right now. so I would keep this in mind when buying a used prime...

I have had my Prime since December and it has been fine. However right now I would recommend waiting until Mid-July and buying the TF Infinity. It will start at the same base price ($500) has a better screen and a plastic panel that should fix any wifi/gps problems people have had with the Prime. Plus it is compatible with practically all TF-Prime accessories including the keyboard dock.
Right now that is likely to be the best choice for a 10" Android tablet.

I as well moved from the IPAD. It's great for what I use it for, however my wife uses it as well.
I wanted her to have her own and so I started the search for another tablet that would suit the needs I have.
After roughly three months of research it came down to two things.
Either buying a Transformer Prime or TF300. Or waiting for the TF700 to hit in July.
Personally I've seen hi-res screens, unless your a graphics designer and your going to do EXTREME graphics rendering and modeling
(which at that point you should be using a PC or MAC desktop - my thoughts that is. )
then getting the Prime is the way to go. I got mine a few days ago, and it's done everything my IPad can do + some, no issues with Wifi - havent tested the GPS because I don't need it for that.
I've used several SD cards and again no issues what so ever.
The ONLY thing I will say in making your decision, is always get the bigger storage size, I have the 64gb and It's EXACTLY what I want / need!

i second this... i have had it with Asus. i was one of the first one to get Prime cause i love android. but Asus's ability to integrate the software is driving me crazy. and not to mention how they handled GPS issue... me personally are jumping ship back to ipad..... at least i won't get ANR everything 10mins.....

I'm also happy with the prime so far. My only concern about is that after months of daily using I really see a big advantage in the 7 inch form factor in many use cases. There was a great video interview with Matias Duarte on the verge about the design of the nexus 7 tablet two days ago or so and it nailed it on the head. So my next tablet will be the Nexus one, but I'll keep the prime as well.

Hey Everyone,
I have been pretty much decided on purchasing a Nexus 10 as my first entry in to the Tablet market. I planned on selling my Macbook and attempting to live with just a tablet, as to be honest, there isn't much I do on my Macbook nowadays that I could not achieve on a tablet. I wanted to wait until I could play with a Nexus 10 in a store prior to making a purchase just in case though. Obviously this will have to wait a little longer.
In the mean time, my brother just arrived for a visit from Australia and he has the Asus Transformer TF201. I had a play with this last night and have to say, I am very impressed. It has such a solid feel, looks premium and the keyboard dock which has extra battery and all the ports needed is quite fantastic. I hadn't seen one before and wondered what he was doing when he took the screen off what I thought was a small netbook! After having a play, I did some research and see the TF700 has a rather nice HD screen, a little more power and comes in the same lovely package. The only problem is, I can't see it available in the UK anywhere and from all my research, it seems it was due out a while back. It seems to be available at some places in Europe, for example you can get a French one, which would have a French keyboard, which I'm not too interested in. Otherwise, you can get from America on Ebay for around 420 pounds including delivery.
Has anyone got this TF700 and if so, what are your thoughts? How do you compare to the Nexus 10? Did you give up the TF700 for the Nexus 10? Or will you be staying put? It's small package and keyboard make it quite an ideal laptop replacement. I don't think it's quite as powerful as the Nexus 10 though.
I hope I posted this in the right place, if not, please tell me and I'll amend.

I've had both the Prime and the Infinity. Prime was plagued with light bleed issues and bad wifi reception so Asus traded mine for the TF700. It was nearly perfect for one dumb but vital mistake, the eMMc on which Asus decided to save some money (that is, they put a very poor and cheap one in it). Because of that, the devices lags in the browser and starts lagging when you have multiple apps open. By lag I don't mean it takes micro secs longer. The device would just lock up for a few seconds before continuing (slowly) and does that a few times.. There is a work-a-round which improves performance a bit called CleanROM. However, for that you have to unlock your device which you have to do via the Asus website and voids all your warranty. So I sold the Infinity to get the N10 as I was sick of it. I hope the N10 is better.
Hope this helps a bit...

The cheap emmc on all Asus tablets is a deal breaker. Untill they fix that I wouldn't recomend any asus tablet.

I am not confident about Transformer's storage performance. Check this simple video about boot speed. Obviously SoC plays a part, but I believe that the NAND also plays a vital role.
Just found some numbers. Check the Infinity numbers about Androbench storage test:

The infinity like others have said is almost a perfect tablet. It has everything. However the device is SLOW. As others have stated Asus cheaper out on the memory and using the device is a chore.
I will be keeping my nexus and returning my 700. The nexus is amazingly smooth, less light bleed than my Asus.
The only downfall is no micro SD on the nexus vs the Asus.
Edit: there are votes for the nexus, not the Asus. Everyone so far has been pro nexus

When you say slow, do you mean in all operations? Or anything specific? I used the TF201 last night for a few hours of web browsing and general stuff and that seemed to be pretty good. It was running Jellybean too. Surely the TF700 must be a step up from this in performance which couldn't be that bad?

There's nothing wrong with the tf700. It appeals to a lot of people that offers a lot of options. I owned a tf700 and enjoyed it for the 30 days AI had it. It was fast and JB was a nice welcome. I had rooted it and stayed locked and stocked. Only tweaks were installing Browser2ram for faster stock browser experience. Its true IO is an issue if you choose to stay locked. Available ram will dip close to 350 to 400mb available from its 1gig. Sometime as low as 100mb left due to having several widgets and or playing a high intensive game. So multitasking can be a challenge at times. If you unlock and install a custom rom like Cleanrom, you won't have any IO issues. It is definitely a step up from the Prime, I also owned that for 6months before I switched to the Infinity. Just returned my Note10.1 for the N10! Can't wait to get my hands on it!

Wasn't intending to put the Asus down. It is a great tablet. The only thing that holds it back is the slow internal memory. To really bring out the full potential you have to unlock it (which voids the warranty sending your serial number to Asus). Install cleanrom and a kernel, and some have gone as far as buying a class 10 64gb micro SD and moving the data partition to that negating the internal memory.
I would keep my Asus if the internal wasn't so slow. Browsing Netflix, the market was just tedious. Installing apps took forever. I would much rather do things on. My phone than the Asus. Its a shame because that's the only flaw I found with the tablet.

I cannot comment on ASUS's poor choice on the internal storage; but with a Galaxy Prevail I had, there was a mod that could transfer data to an external micro SD card. Upon doing this, I couldn't even use the device just due to how bad the lag was (the micro SD card I was using must of been a slower class). Switched back to internal, and all was well.
So using a slower flash controller can make the overall experience of a device very much worse.

My input is biased as I have not owned Nexus 10, and may not ever. Still debating.
But I have done extensive research about all the major tablet out there including Nexus 10, various windows 8 tablets, and owned Infinity myself for about 3 months or so. I sold it in anticipation of Nexus 10.
So here are some of things I can tell (nexus 10 part is just a speculation, and definitely guys own the device can tell you better)
Screen - Nexus 10
Infinity's screen was phenomenal when I jumped from iPad 2. Then I got Note 10.1, and just could not tolerate the lower resolution anymore so had to go back to Infinity. I am not sure if the Infinity to Nexus 10 gives the same degree of jump, but it is possible if you purely look at difference in number of pixel densities. Though one thing I can say is if you never used higher resolution screen, it's hard to know what you are missing. Because I saw new Ipad several times, but until owned Infinity myself and used for couples day I really did not appreciate the difference.
Battery Life - Infinity.
Charge time is faster, extra docking battery, and perhaps tablet itself already has better battery than the Nexus 10 according to paper.
Extra storage - Infinity
MicroSD. I am sure you can connect couple cables via microUSB and use them on Nexus 10 as well, but certainly not as convenient and visually not as good.
Build Quality - Likely Nexus 10
I have never exchanged any of my electronics before in my life. With infinity, I had to do it twice and seems like quite few complaints on the forum here. So when you get a good unit, it's great but there is chance you might have to go through couple exchange. As far as light bleed, some person posted on this forum that Nexus 10 has light bleed. That was actually worth if not the same to the worst light bleed I had on my 3 infinity tablet i.e. both have light bleed.
Dock station - Its really nice to have docking keyboard on infinity. People are hoping Pogo connector on Nexus 10 to support this, and personally I am dreaming the same. However, to be honest, I am not even certain that connector support such type of input.
Application Performance - Likely Nexus 10
Overall performance is likely stronger on Nexus 10, but so far reviews I have read across multiple sites sounds like not a complete ground breaking performance. Nexus 10 certainly has better GPU than Infinity, but supports way more pixels. CPU wise, perhaps it may be due to the fact the some benchmarks are not yet optimized for A15 architecture, but if you look at some benchmark like Antutu Infinity is superior. (Mainly because quad vs. dual core difference I believe). The other test is Sunspider, which is browser test. After the latest firmware update, Infinity's stock browser gives 900's score. Clearly above the Nexus 10, but nexus 10's score also likely to go up. However, there tests are generally just number and I don't think not true reflection of real experience by any mean.
As far as slow internal storage, it is true that Infinity uses inferior internal storage; however, whether you really notice this as major issue or not is depends on how you use your tablet. Initially, people complained this as a cause of slow browser page loading, near complete stall of system while application downloading. Also, relatively frequent application not responding errors. These have been alleviated by update; however, not eradicated. So wonder how Nexus 10 solved this.
Wifi Performance - Nexus 10
MiMo should give quite extra wifi performance.
Future proof - ?
Nexus 10 will definitely get quicker updates on OS. But ASUS is also very fast in fact it has been one of the fastest to get OS update among non nexus device. Though actual overall internal hardware is somewhat inferior to that of Nexus 10, Infinity drives less resolution so it may be relatively sufficient for what it has. If so, as developer supports more higher resolution applications on Android platform (to support Nexus 10), Infinity will also benefit at the same time. So my guess is unless Asus gives up, relative future proof are probably similar between the two.
Conclusion
In current stage of tablet market, I just don't see any tablet that is perfect or completely superior to other competitive device including Nexus 10, Infinity, and Galaxy Note 10.1. Personally, I want a tablet with high resolution screen, luxury of Infinity's dock, microSD, and Galaxy Note 10.1's stylus. WIth zero crash, 10 hours battery, less than 600g... Closest I see for potential right now (myself) is Windows surface Pro but even it lacks battery life, and weight factor. Maybe Samsung's next tablet (Galaxy Note 10.1 with high resolution screen)... I think you just need to list what is important for you and decide.

I had both the Prime and the Infinity. The main reason I returned them was because I read this forum. The Prime had its issues, but I did just fine with the router in my room, and outside the house I always used my phone as a hotspot so the wi-fi problems did not hit me hard. The GPS NEVER worked, but I said to myself, who cares, I have GPS on my phone. I ended up returning it because Best Buy let me (which I also found about here), and because after reading the forum I had the idea that it was the right thing to do, I did pay good money for the device.
As for the Infinity, it was perfect... to me, it was, but again, from reading the forums I had the urge to return it because it ticked me off that ASUS "overlooked" a glaring flaw AGAIN. But to be honest, I was fine with the performance.
I have the Nexus 10 and it is also a good device so no regrets. People are finding flaws on it already, like some flexing in the back. I have the flexing, it's very, very small, and it doesn't bother me at all, light bleed? I don't even know what that is and if I have it.
If you can try out the Infinity and don't feel like it's sluggish AND really loved the dock and expandable memory, get it. Not everyone is as picky with their devices. This is not meant as an insult to anyone here, I just feel like some here look for perfection more than I do. I can understand that because these devices are not cheap at all.
Usually, I tend to stick with what i have and learn to love it, unless it's just a really crappy device or it doesn't work at all.
I hope I have helped you a bit in making your decision.
FINAL EDIT: I forgot to say this, imo, the Infinity felt much more solidly built, the Aluminum just felt right.

Why does everyone keep attributing the lag they see on the transformer infinity to hardware issues? This argument has already been debunked due to the software optimization of cleanrom and c10 without overclocking... any issues that might be noticed on the infinity will be fixed with future updates. So please people, stop with the inaccurate assumptions. The infinity is an absolute beast and so is the N10. The deal breaker for me with the N10 is the battery and no sd card slot. Those are huge issues for me that CAN'T be corrected with updates. The battery is issue has been known since the first reviews came in.
Both devices are awesome, but i have to give the edge to the infinity...OP i would ask yourself these questions...
1. Is battery life important to you?
2. How good are both manufacturers with software updates?
3. Is external storage important to you?
4. Would you rather metal or plastic? Does it male a difference to you?
5. Is having the option of converting your tablet into a netbook appealing to you?
6. Is having Extra battery life through a keyboard dock appealing to you?
I would ask yourself these questions before making your decisions. Good luck!

It is hardware. The benchmarks shown the internal memory of the Asus to be extremely slow. The read/right in benchmarks is slow. I think 0.2 mb/s at times?
Cleanrom doesn't fix that...it just masks it somewhat. I've watched videos of cleanrom and yes it works great, but tweaking software only takes it so far.
Being forced to unlock and give up your warranty on a $500 device to mask the hardware is just not worth it IMO.

Its not hardware, its software. And doesn't mask the i/o issues, it optimizes the software to make better use of the storage speeds. And I'm saying you don't have to unlock, I'm saying that the issues you might see ( which are almost non existent since the last update) CAN be corrected with updates, as made by example of cleanrom. Also looking around these boards, you guys are dealing with some pretty serious issues of your own...

Well I'm not trying to start an argument on the forums. I have both, all with the latest firmware and the N10 flies compared to my Asus. I was really, really trying to like the asus...but its just to sluggish for me. Everyone has their own opinions and needs from a device. Mine just lean more towards the nexus.

Asus tablets are honestly terrible. Every single display model I have ever used from the transformer, prime, infinity, tf300 etc has all had either a poor wifi connection or ran like crap. Coincidence? Slight possibilty, but considering I go to a lot electronic stores, that doesn't instill me with much confidence.
I am actually shocked that Asus managed to make the Nexus 7 run well, it is plagued with hardware issues but at least it runs well.
Maybe their next crack at the infinity will be good but for now it sucks and the Nexus 10 seems quite awesome.

Unless you have reset your infinity to factory and done a full clean update to the latest firmware, along with either keeping stock on both devices or having exactly the same apps installed, then making a point that one device is faster than the other is not accurate. I can show you a nexus 1 factory reset and that will "fly" faster than a galaxy nexus that hasn't been put through the same treatment, doesn't mean the nexus 1 is the better device.
Your right, it does come down to needs and personal opinions, just gotta make sure your making those decisions on accurate information my friend....

Except for the horrible battery, poor graphics performance and no microSD slot...ya.... awesome...
Also I'm playing on my sisters N10 right now. I honestly see no difference besides the obvious UI. What i have noticed though is the battery. There is no way I could deal with this.... 30 percent after a little over an hour of mkv movie playing? That my friend is the definition of an inefficient battery to usage ratio.

Sadly I did do that first thing. No change. As I said I have both sitting in front of me so I have all the information I could possibly have haha
