Sorry for being so new at this, but I'm on stock firmware and have never rooted before. With this tool can I root my phone and then install Gingeritis v1.2.1?
Anyone with a Thunderbolt tried to use revolutionary yet?
Thanks in advance!
I flashed it and it gave me s-off but
Rom Manager acts like my phone is not rooted.

When I used Revolutionary, it hung/froze after it did the root.
I was S-OFF but had to manually install su, busybox, and CWM.
You're most likely in the same boat.

Does Revolutionary give me root?
No. You will need to flash this zipfile from recovery.

Easiest root I have ever done on any phone. Glad I waited for this to come out , so easy.

Can't wait to try this. Been stock forever and this might be the time I would want to root. So I basically Use Revolution to get S-off, and then download that zip and run it and everything is cool?
That's all you have to do, don't forget to download Busybox.

Hello All. Long time reader and first time poster.
I just ran this and I have s-off but when I attempt to run Recovery so I can install superuser su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip, my phone just reboots and I get the red exclamation point. Any advice?
Download Superuser from the market.
The easy way is not always the best way. You guys need to learn ADB so when your phone messes up, you can run commands and fix it.

IMO DBZ Fanatics is still the easiest root method for the thunderbolt. I have learned alot since rooting but would still recommend it to anyone who is a NoOb at rooting.

Well I'll be the first to say, "I told you so!" when their volume buttons break and they need to un-root to make a warranty replacement.
ADB is your friend and "ADB for Dummies" on YouTube is your lifesaver:

+1. I've had to do the manual way so many times... I feel like there will be many more questions doing a one step method, rather than the ADB method, as one step doesn't really give you a detailed description on whats wrong.
Most of the mistakes are from not reading the instructions.
This is just out and the instructions for Thunderbolt have not
been posted yet. There are some general instructions that are
being used today. With one mistake I made it still only took five
minutes and I don't have any problems to fix.
FWIW... Use these instructions posted by XDA Member rivera82falcon in the INC2 forum:

EXCEPT FOR STEP 9c, where you will need to flash the Thunderbolt CWM file, located here:

I just got my 4g lte, coming from evo 3d which I rooted and s-offed but recentlu bricked by flashing a recovery :banghead:. Anyways, Im on the newest hboot. Did the jelly been update, so what I'd like 2 know is, can I just root for now without dev unlocking and if so, is the process the same as earlier hboots?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Pretty sure HTC dev unlock is the only option you have
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
AFAIK you have to HTC-Dev unlock to get TWRP/Recovery if you are interested click the link in my SIG to flash TWRP and a Superuser app of your choice
*IF* you had an older version you could do a root without unlock, I used this method but I had hboot 1.12 and 1.22.something software. I just wanted to install TB and backup apps and other minor things. If you want to flash ROMs,.you need to unlock - at least that's how I understood things
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671577
Thanks everyone for your help and very quick replies Once I htc unlock, I can root, right? The same method as older ones or is it different? I don't mind losing everything if need be, since I just got the phone and even though I put everything on it, I do have ultimate backup, but its useless without root. For some reason I can't even get my apps from it unless I use a file explorer, but can't do data, which is my whole point of having bakcup
EDIT: just fixed the restore app problem by fixing the folder location. Still can't restore data without root

So, I have my evo currently running Android 4.1.1 with Software version 3.15.651.16 710RD
I tried using the methods given on unlimited.io. I even used a livecd for Ubuntu (but couldn't do anything in terminal). However, using everything in windows worked, minus the rabiesshot.exe file.
I somehow managed to unlock my bootloader and flash TWRP, but can't do anything else, ie; Roms will flash but never boot.
Is there maybe something I overlooked?
I'm not new to android, just HTC devices.
Take a look at the link below. I think it will shed some light on your issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256478
Most likely your issue is caused by the fact that you're S-on. On Hboot's 1.15 & newer you have to flash the kernel separately from the ROM, otherwise it won't boot. Many Sense ROM's include a S-on kernel installer to facilitate ROM flashing. Once you've obtained S-off, this isn't an issue.
Also, instead of Dirty Racun, give Facepalm a try-it's Windows friendly.

I tried using Facepalm, but I don't have superCID so I can't go through the rest of the process, I tried using the moonshine application as well but that didn't work either.
I feel like I've either completely overlooked something, or just giving it all way too much thought
Moonshine won't work unless you're on Hboot 2.09/baseband 1.12.11.1210. You have to use Facepalm or Dirty Racun otherwise. I personally have never used Facepalm, but I hear it's quick and easy. Perhaps head over to the Facepalm thread for more help. I think they also have IRC, too.

Looking at Facepalm, you must be rooted and have superCID.
I've actually been unable to even obtain root.
There is however a new system update. Should I try updating that and then running moonshine?

If you're bone-stock, sure, why not? Keep in mind your bootloader has to be unlocked, which may be the reason you're having issues with Facepalm to begin with. You cannot root if you can't unlock your bootloader.

Yes I have TWRP installed. No custom rom, I'm entirely stock. I tried to flash a rom a few days ago when I did this, and it was stuck on the HTC screen for probably a good 45 minutes. So I booted into recovery and just recovered the backup I made

Remember the link from above that I shared? The issue is that you're S-on and you have to install the kernel separately from the ROM. Most Sense ROM's have an S-on kernel installer to facilitate ROM flashing. Try a ROM like MeanBean-just read the installation instructions so you don't have any issues getting it installed (you basically flash it twice instead of once. The first flash installs the ROM itself, and the second flash installs the kernel). Obviously once you're S-off this won't be an issue.
Also, you might hit up Bigdaddy619. I know that he recently helped somebody get S-off using Facepalm and I'm sure he can help you, too

I have the most currrent drivers again. It just says <Waiting for device>
Edit: I'm going to install the adb and fastboot onto my laptop and try those in a little while. See if it produces the same result.

motochopper would work. I don't have time to write it up, but you could use revone to unlock/s-off then use motochopper to root. Once you have root you could use Rom Manager or Goo to install a recovery.

Hello,
I am fairly sure you need root to use revone to S-off you device.
If you are able to get you bootloader unlocked(this you need a computer, maybe a library or school). You can use an app(link below) to flash a custom recovery to your phone then flash a root tool zip(link below) and give yourself root. You just have to get your bootloader unlocked.

Hello,
I'm not too sure what kind of file it is, but it isn't an app. I would probably say it is some type of bin file(could be totally wrong). I think your best bet to get root is google revone then read about it.
If you don't own a computer your find a public computer you can get adb and fastboot working on and use revone to unlock your phone. Then use fastboot to install a new recovery.
After all that you can get root, but the bottom line is you need a computer with adb and fastboot.
Hope that helps.

You say you're in college!?! There should be computers on campus, at the library, or a friend even. Download the files you need onto your phone, take a data cable with you and bam. Should not take more that 10 min.
Ok so I've been tampering a little with my hotspot.....turns out it doesn't work. The phone's not rooted so I was trying to use it legitimately. Well now, since there's hotspot tethering with rooted access, I was wondering what preparations were needed to gain root access.
Phone's hardware:
hboot: 2.28
Android Version: 4.0.3
Software #: 4.05.605.14710RD
I previously updated it a looong time ago when ICS came out in 2012. so I don't know much about how the rooting process has changed for the resound, or if there is any root access with ICS.
Anything at this point helps, I wasted 30 dollars just to find out it doesn't work so... Even if a factory reset would do the trick, I would still like to know about how to root it on ICS.
