Update from CM9 to CM10 kernel problem - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

So i want to update my phone with a new ROM. I have CM9 now so i downloaded CM10, put it on my sd card, same with g-apps. And then i should flash the kernel that is in the CM10 file in flashtool.
But when i try to do this by pressing the "select kernel to use" button i get error saying "this action can only be used in fastboot mode. Then the phone turns on and of many times in flashtool and message saying my usb debugging is off..(It is not) and "for 2011 devices line, make sure you are not in MTP mode"
Cant say i can find any MTP mode anywhere..
Any help out there guys?

Thanx but i think i have a connection problem.
After i played with gemini app my phone has gone mad on many levels.
So still get error message when i go into fastboot. Weird problem..
Any ideas? Maby just go back to stock rom and then back to cm10?

Try reinstall fastboot drivers and kernel must be suitable with the ROM what you want to use.

u can use kdz with the emergency mode...nothing to do with the USB debugging...the problem is the phone is not recognized...try many times with the "shaking technique"...it will work for sure, it worked for me...

well i am saying that be sure to enable usb debugging in future for the time just use the method to revive your phn back ,when ur phn is on just be sure usb debugging is enabled and than flash recovery using any method u r comfortable with, use the lgmdp method its safe and kdz flashing is used the shaking method when the phn is in dead condition as ur phn boot to lg logo so the lgmdp method will work even the kdz but the later one is bit risky.
Get lgdmp (firmware flasher) on PC
Link: http://*******/5v3zU
Open lgdmp.exe
Disable LG modem
Device manager -> modems
Go to emergency mode first.
For that:
Power off phone (even if by taking out battery) -> keep press volume up+back button and press power button.
Now u will enter emergency mode
In lgdmp click select port
Phone will be detected automatically -> press connect
Close the pop-up window that shows to select image file
Backup NV
Tools -> NV backup
Download recovery
Link: http://*******/5v3tT
Unzip the downloaded recovery into a folder
Open the extracted folder as the image folder in lgdmp
It will show some errors. Don't mind and just close the image selection window
Now press download in main window of lgdmp
It will flash recovery to the phone
After its complete u can boot to recovery by keycombination menu + volume down when pressing power button
Hope it will help

So don't go for anything
You got your CWM 5.0.2.7 corrupted while flash
So just boot into fastboot mode and flash CWM 5.0.2.0 via fastboot method
@All here: If anyone of you, could please link him to fastboot unbrick method from Bytecode's repo
By the way. What ever you try but KDZ and LGPMD won't recogonise your phone
So no chance to use it
Most probably he will be confused like hell by seeing all those answers like
Go for lgmdp no go to kdz no phone bricked ma money oh GOD.. :banghead:

Completely switch off your phone
Press Power + Home button
It will boot into fastboot mode and then just follow the method as shown on the thread (link that you mentioned)
Make sure to download 5.0.2.0 CWM recovery image from here
Two things that i wanna advise you about
1) Read that thread very carefully, understand what you are doing and follow each and every command.
2) Make sure to rename the download *.img file to recovery.img
Note that .img is the extension and not to be included in name
I'm sure this will help
Once done, type in fastboot reboot and wait for the phone to boot to the previous instance, where the phone was before this happened
Avoid using 5.0.2.7; its buggy

Installing ClockworkMod Recovery

Hi,
I'm on the process of installing ClockWorkMod Recovery, stupid of me i forgot to enable USB Debugging option on my phone. Now I'm stuck on Command Prompt saying...
C:\Fastboot>fastboot flash boot recovery-nozomi.img
< waiting for device >
It has been sitting for more than 5 minutes as I am typing now. Should I disconnect the USB cord? Would this action brick my phone?
Sorry for my stupidity!

Hi soulhackereborn!
Sorry for the late reply! Sorry the forum prevented me from posting the URL as I am just a new user here.
"To prevent spam on the XDA forums, ALL new users prevented from posting outside links in their messages. After approximately 10 posts, you will be able to post outside links. Thank you for understanding!"
Anyway the tutorial says (copy&paste):
Use the computer for downloading the CWM file from here.
Then, on the same computer download fastboot from here.
Extract fastboot on C:\ drive.
Then, copy the downloaded “ecovery-nozomi.img” file to the Fastboot folder from your computer.
Now you must connect the phone in fastboot mode with the computer.
In order to do so you must plug the USB cord to the PC, then on your phone press and hold the Volume Up button and while doing this connect the USB cable to your Xperia S.
Up next, on the PC click on “Start -> Accessories -> on Command prompt right click -> Run as administrator”.
The command prompt window will now be displayed.
Now, enter the following commands (press enter after each one): “cd c:\Fastboot” and “fastboot flash boot recovery-nozomi.img”.
CWM will now be flashed.
In the end the “finished / OKAY” message should be displayed.
In command prompt enter “fastboot reboot”.
Your handset should now reboot into ClockworkMod recovery.
Remove the USB cord and disconnect the Xperia S from the computer.

everything seems to be good in the tutorial though..
But what is it a kernel, rom or an CWM image file ???
if still it says waiting for device then here's a couple things you should check :-
1) Fastboot ie; S1 Boot driver installed or no
2) Switch off phone and connect it to the PC via usb holding Volume + button (this is fastboot mode)
3) Check does your device remain in fastboot mode or no i mean purple led light glows stays on continuously or no until u execute the command, if not reinstall the driver and try again
4) If everything well till now try flashing with the given commands without the quotes ie; fastboot flash boot recovery-nozomi.img

2. I understand this.
3. On my case, it's a blue LED lit steadily after doing step 2. I am using Sony Xperia S.
4. Yes, i flashed them without the quotes.

Usually <waiting for device> can show up when you don't have proper drivers installed. Double check them if you haven't done so.

Try re -installing the drivers again manually or let windows search over internet...

Yes ur rooted!!
Thanks!
I'm currently downloading Cyanogenmod ver 9.1. Hopefully it works! Thank you so much buddy! You have been very helpful! If I get problems on flashing CM9.1, i'll contact you , hehe
One of the reminders on isntalling CM9 is:
Make sure that your Xperia S is already running a rooted firmware, and that it has the ClockworkMod Recovery properly installed.
How do I know I have a rooted firmware? Do I still need to flash FTF file?
By the way, I am getting a boot loop from CWM recovery, I cant go to the homescreen, no option to turn off! It only reboots the CWM.
(Still downloading CM9 as of the moment)

Xperia Ray st18i booting prob ..

err .. since its related to xperia ray I thought of dropping it here .. I'm kinda new here .. sorry if this isn't right but wanted help
Guys , I was on Jelly Sandwich with sirikay's kernel. I had some speed problems with wifi. So I thought of flashing stock ICS Rom ST18i_4.1.B.0.587_Kernel.ftf using uniflash.exe and did it. After flashing it didnt restart. So I clicked the power button to restart manually but just got a vibration sound and nothing else .. just the blank screen. So I searched for stuff about unbricking my device since I thought it's bricked. I downloaded this package "FlashTool_0.2.9.1_FOTAUnbrick.exe" and started flashing the firmwares. So I held down my volumedown button and connected it to the usb port. It says error and that I have to select usb debugging mode and connect again but I can't even start my mobile.

Yes youll need fastboot.exe (ideally you want to download the android sdk). I included fastboot.exe in the attachement.
Copy fastboot.exe to your C:\ drive for example, so it looks like C:\fastboot.exe
You then need to open a command prompt (Start -> type CMD).
Type: CD C:/
Now type: fastboot devices
It should then show a questionmark or something. Go ahead and download a kernel (i assume you know what i mean). Then flash it using this command: fastboot flash boot KERNELNAME.img (where KERNELNAME.img is the name of the kernel)
If you want, you can download a rom, open it with winrar or something and extract the Boot.img (this is the kernel), the command would then be: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then type: fastboot reboot
You should then be able to reboot into recovery (press volume down a couple of times on reboot). There you can flash a rom.
Or you can try Flashtool, if you dont know how to work with command-line. It is easier

[JB]My computer doesn't recognize my Xperia P after installing a Kernel[My findings]

Okay this maybe not that very important but I found a very interesting issue when installing a kernel that includes CWM right after flashing
here's the scenario - > "I wanted to root my Xperia P and flash stuffs in it so I googled/searched about how to install CWM/Root and unlock the bootloader of my phone"
PREREQUISITE :
FlashTool
JellyBean firmware of your choice for Xperia P
Nemesis Kernel for JellyBean stock roms
ThP_JB_kernel_v10.1.zip <-- Kernel which can be downloaded on this link -> http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?fbx0hkuhmsxqyme (Note, extract the FILE somewhere) The extracted file should be called/named " kernel-unsigned.elf "
Drivers of the Xperia P and Flashtool/Fastboot should be installed in your Computer
what I did is this :
1. I downloaded this Stock JellyBean ROM - > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249344
2. then flashed it with FlashTool
3. I decided to follow this guide - > http://www.hackmyandroid.com/xperia-p-rooted-on-android-4-1-jelly-bean-build-6-2-a-0-400/5247 in order to install "CWM" in my phone.
4. placed the phone to Flashboot and installed [ kernel-unsigned.elf ] Kernel through FlashTool and it went well
5. Rebooted and connected my phone to my PC
6. Waiting for my phone to get recognized but for waiting a long time, countless of restarting my phone and my computer, and reinstalling the drivers. it just can't find/recognize my phone right after installing the kernel that comes with CWM.
for some people ^
this happened I guess and didn't know what to do and perhaps some decided to take the phone to the service center and asked to fix it (resulting to pay to fix the issue) .
the SOLUTION for this ? HERE
1. Turned off my phone and disconnected it from my PC
2. Opened the Flashtool and go to "Flashmode" and select the JellyBean firmware of your choice with "wipe data & wipe cache" checked, then click "ok" and it should process and prepare the flashing
3. once the FlashTool asked you to connect the phone and hold down some buttons blah blah blah do this " Hold down the VOLUME DOWN button and then connect it to your PC" it should recognize your phone cause it will go to "Flashmode" and it'll flash the firmware.
4. after flashing, it'll ask you to unplug your phone and restart it.
5. let it boot and go in the homescreen
6. go to settings/developers settings/ turn on Developer options then tick "USB debugging" (THEN CONNECT THE PHONE TO THE PC)
7. On FlashTool, go to Fastboot mode and once the FlashTool recognized the phone (NOTE : check it on the logs below on the FlashTool Window) click "Reboot into fastboot mode (via ADB).
8. once it's on Fastboot mode, click "Select Kernel to flash" and select the " kernel-unsigned.elf " (OKAY YEAH I KNOW, IT HAS THE Bug that can't recognize the phone after flashing it but JUST WAIT AND FOLLOW THE STEPS "
9. after flashing, you can flash another kernel as it's still on the Fastboot mode. download the Nemesis KERNEL for the STOCK Jellybean ROM from this thread - > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2214141
THEN CLICK " Select Kernel to Flash" again and flash the Nemesis Kernel (the file should be "Nemesis.elf" or something
10. when done flashing (it should take less than 2 seconds lmao) click "Reboot device into system" on the "FASTBOOT TOOLBOX (I'm sure you do know where it is right ?)
then voila! you have the CWM installed and running the Nemesis kernel as well. It takes a lot of work and effort but it's another workaround for those people who has experienced this kind of problem.
P.S, forgive my English as I'm not a native English speaker lol. ask away if you can't understand something, I'll try my best to answer it with an understandable "answer" lol
my pc does not recognize my Xperia p now

boot loop xperia mini

Using Framework Tool I change the animations and applied it to current framework I didn’t replace it. Now I’m stuck with a boot loop. My device is Sony Ericsson Xperia mini (ST15i | 4.1.B.0.587). I have a backup of my system folder and I tried to replace the framework-res.apk using fastboot but I Couldn’t I get this error massage “error: device not found” (I’m sure that I have connected my devices and the LED is blue too) (when I run the command ‘fastboot devices’ I get ‘BX902VFMGZ&ZLP fastboot’ ). I have installed CWM but I can’t ever reboot in to that. How do I recover my device from this boot loop. Please help! (I don’t know much about command lines or any advance things please be kind enough to answer in simple way as possible as you can, I really appreciate that). And I tried

1.Download the correct firmware file for your phone at the bottom of the post.
2.Make sure Flashtool is installed.
3.Place downloaded firmware file(.ftf format) in Flashtool\firmwares(by default C:\Program Files\Flashtool) folder.
4.Start Flashtool.
5.Click the lightning button and choose Flashmode.
6.Firmware should appear there, if you have it in correct folder. Choose it.
7.Turn off your phone, connect USB cable to computer, then press Volume Down button and connect USB cable to your phone.
8.Flashtool should detect your phone and starts flashing. Follow the instructions.
9.When it says „Flashing completed“, unplug your phone and turn it on.
note: plug usb cable with volume down to flashtool(you get mesaGE "DEVICE CONNECTED IN FLASH MODE" IN LOG) and flash the firmware from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27376024&postcount=3
