Amateur Themer here -
I'm trying to figure out which of the dang .xml files contains the color specification for the Date on the lockscreen, I found the color code in like 15 files. Do I actually have to change all of them cuz there in different folders based on DPI ??? Nexus was easier cause 99% was in XHDPI..
also trying to change the font of the Digital Clock on the Lockscreen and can't figure out for the life of me which font to replace. I replaced AndroidClock without any luck. I extracted all the fonts from system/fonts and installed them on my PC and none appear to look like the font on the Lockscreen...
I'm effin confused, anyone wanna help a noob out ?

Oh... that kinda makes sense cuz I did see a bunch of number icons in framework-res. I'll explore that, thanks for the clue!!!
Yeah the images should start with zzz_lockscreen _ unlock o png and so forth or something to that effect hope this helps

Thanks for the tip, found them and now all I gotta do is aquire some new Gimp skills, while I don't like the font, they're really well done. My attempts at making my own using TT fonts hasn't been as good. Need to find a tutorial on adding outlines and shadows... or steal some from the web ... .haha
Now anyone know anything about which folder for the color for the lockscreen date. the icons are in drawable-xhdpi ...
I found the file(s) the color is used in in 6 different folders that appear resolution specific.
\layout
\layout-hdpi
\layout-sw360dp
\layout-sw600dp
\layout-sw730dp
\layout-xhdpi
I'm guessing it's the ones in xhdpi anyone care to explain what all the other folders are about ?
Thanks for the help - I got it, not 100% happy yet, even though I hated the font they used for the lockscreen time icons, gotta admit they are really well done. Mine... well I got to learn some new Gimp tricks, but here's what I got so far.

I didn't do the status bar, that's part of Beans ROM. though they're not too hard to do, the icons are all in SystemUI.apk.

That was an .xml edit - it was a real pain in the ar$e too. I ended up changing every reference to the date in like 8 files in a bunch of different folders, I'm not 100% sure which file it was yet.
When Beans releases B5 I'll reapply it scientifically, I'm pretty sure it's the ones in res\layout-xhdpi but not 100% sure. I'm trying to figure out a diff tool right now to identify things better.

That would make things way too easy. Instead of referring to a defined color string they hard coded it in the .XML
I've tested 4 of the possible 13 files it could be without any success yet, I will find the bugger though. I'll let ya know when I do...

Hi everyone,
I just recently learned how to theme and create icons for your status bar, so I feel the need to expand on that and help others and create good looking things for them. I'm posting a screen shot of what I have done with my phone and would like to get ideas and/or things that you have done. I know there is a screenshot thread, but this isn't the same. This is coming together to make the best looking icons or best looking color scheme for our phones.
I am using JBoogies Orange deblur Froyo rom and I flashed his red ginger theme for a base to start. A lot of what he did is no longer there, but it was very helpful since I am just starting because it gave me a good idea of what needed to be done.
I don't know how to create a flashable zip, so if I provide you anything it will be an apk that you will overwrite your apk with, unless someone can explain to me how to create the zip.
Anyways, share your ideas.. Here is a few pics of my work so far.
Widgetlcker modded, changed battery icon to draining android, changed wifi icon, themed signal bars, themed dial pad, with the help of JBoogie created a black swype keyboard, themed the smaler icons like vibrate, alarm etc. (I have also had the circle battery icon and the regular one of course just colored. )

Yes, blurdialer.apk, you need to go into res>drawable-hdpi
You can modify the colors in there, but do not mees with any file ending in .9
then you need to change the permissions before you overwrite the existing app.
should look like this
read write execute
x

I know but what file exactly do I have to change?
I mean the background of the Dial Numbers!
Ahh, As far as I know the only way to do it is to theme the .9 files. Here is how you can do it http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/draw9patch.html
I have not tried, if you do let me know how it works out
Have you done the Theme above?
There the Dial-Numbers have a square around them. How do you do that? Which file did you changed?

It's the dial text field, I guess I have messed with the .9. I know usually those aren't editable, but apparently they are, I just hadn't noticed that is what I was editing. Just made those straight lines rather than the round look

Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
EDIT: nevermind ...allready figured it out
Update 11/7/2011
Reworked the contacts to look a little more black, small changes though. Also reworked the stock clock to be more a little more ICS.
Here is a theme I've been putting together for Serendipity 8.1 over the last few weeks based on ICS from the system dump.
The theme will work with S8, UnNamed and Cog X2 at this point in time.

I've modded the keyboard, most of the usual system apps like mms, contacts, phone etc and modded the stock lockscreen to have the same clock font as ICS... and more
The only problem is that I cannot for the life of me get the notification text color to change to white. So if you can fix then post up the files and I'll add it in.
I don't plan on porting it to other roms or updating it often as pharmacy school has been pretty cumbersome lately.
Usual stuff:
You flash at your own risk, if it breaks your phone it isn't my fault.
I highly recommend you back-up any files so you can revert if you please.
If I missed anything, I can't think of it now...

It should work, there isn't much difference between the two roms but I can't guarantee it.
Looks a lot more complete than what I was working on! One thing I did notice is that the signal icon seems to be a bit larger than the rest of the system icons and a tad bit blurry. The icons I was working with seemed to be a bit smaller to match the height of the other icons. I'll attach the SystemUI.apk I was using in case you wanted to compare those icons
Thanks for theme!
i think there's a new Serendipity version coming any day now, so i'll switch back and try it out then. i don't like the stock green on most of these. i don't get why Google doesn't include color choices.

For messaging I presume? Use apk manager to extract the apk and replace the emoticon images with the ones of your choice. I use the ones from GO SMS, which are much better imo. I can provide a more detailed step by step if you'd like to do it.

Use the instructions from this post. I've also attached a zip of the emoticons I use (not flashable). Give it a try and report back. I'll do it if you have difficulty and we can see where you went wrong.
There are 17 images to replace in drawable-hdpi. There's also one (the "embarassed" emoticon) in the drawable folder; you have to replace this one as well. The images in my zip are appropriately named, so just drag and drop.
Good luck.
Its easy to do and use the ICS emoticons but they have to be replaced in the framework as well as mms.apk.

You need to use root explorer and move the Mms.apk to system/app
Make sure to backup your old one (rename it to something like mms.apk.old)
first and when you move the one with the black smileys it will ask if you want to overwrite.
Then reboot and you should be good to go.
Not successful
Hey, it doesn't just show up. There is now no stock messaging app in app drawer. I have used this technique many times, I changed the permissions & all that stuff, but no success though.
Can you help me out??
I'm posting my apk as well, will you please apply same black emotions & post it back??
Ok....here are some some additional mods to the systemui. They include the mods Nottach already implemented along with the centering of the clock and I made it a little smaller then the original. Also I have included 3 additional ui's that have either 100%, 75%, 50% transparency on the statusbar. Please remember to copy your original systemui.apk and odex file to a .bak as a way to return back to the original system files and remember to change your permissions on the new systemui....
Remember MOD at your own risk...If you follow the directions given in all the other posts you will not have any issues...
All of these files have the centered clock..
I fixed the transparency on the 50 percent which was actually set to 100 on the circle battery mods...
100 Percent Status Bar
75 Percent Status Bar
50 Percent Status Bar
Centered Clock Only
All percents with Regular size clock
Small Centered Clock and Circle Battery All Transparency
Big Centered Clock and Circle Battery All Transparency
Please remember that these are not flashable....just a regular zip file of the apk..
Thanks to KryptosXLayer2 for his xxhdpi battery..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41154701

1) will this work on tmobile gs4
2) what icon theme are you using
100% Transparent works great on my device. i'm using your mod on the OTA'd version of the ATT GS4.
Great work. One thing I noticed is that with the 100% transparency file I still see the outline of the notification bar on my home screens. It looks like how I would think 75% may look.
Anyway, great work none the less. Was just curious if anyone else had it the same?
Edit: Works flawlessly on the lock screen

1. You'll need a file manager that will give you access to the device's system/app folder.
2. Once you have access, rename the current SystemUI.apk to something like SystemUI.bak.
3. To inject your replacement SystemUI.apk, use adb.exe and enter the following command: adb push SystemUI.apk /system/app. I do this via my PC while using a USB connection.
I understand you may or may not have some "pieces." Post your needs and we'll proceed from there.

I've been slowly trying to find everything for the tab ui. Some luck but not much. I've gotten as far as themeing the System UI apk but that's about it. I really like the IRONROM. I'm hoping to have a theme ready when it's updated to the latest build. If you'd @DUHAsianSKILLZ like to work on something together or help each other out.. pm me.
Right now I'm just messing around with design. Nothings set in stone.

Whoooooooop! I believe you have the T700 correct? Ive had no sucess with getting my stuff to work. Did you approch this with vrtheme or..? I can provide the files needed if you would like. Been busy with state testing lately. Glad to see you got it to work.
Ive been trying out with theming the framework res. But thats the thing I dont know Thats a perfect theme so far!
Yes. T700. I haven't used the vr system for the tab yet and my zips for the note/s4 don't work. I've had to resort to apk replacement with compiling. Framework still gives me some problems. But I'll definitely take what you got and please hit me up for anything I can help with.

What I did was base the theme off of discreet blue theme. He used vr themeing but had broken framework res stuff. I deleted that stuff so the systemui is only themed. I own the T800. Ive tried to theme the framework but was unsure on which file/picture name is which. Of course you seem to know what your doing. Basically, I just used the premade discreet bluetheme without the framework themed. And tryed to fix up the framework with no success. Well that was weeks ago when I abandoned on trying to do so.
But I love your theme so far. Anyway I can get that working on my SMT800?
It might be the same pngs and xmls between the t7 & t8. I'm out of the house but when I get back I'll upload the system ui and you can rip out the pngs. The only way I've been able to theme framework is by manually putting the pngs in using 7zip.

Tell me which pngs you changed and Ill see what I can do. Same procedure as putting the pngs in 7zip correct? (right clicking on apk, open 7zip, drag modified stuff to the 7zip, and thats it I assume?) thanks for your help!
Yep that's it. The downside is you can't change value folders without de/compiling but any pngs or .9s can be done that way. Most changes to the notification pull down are xmls which is fine for systemui. The only pngs are toggles and the bottom bar in sysUI. And most are in ..sw800dp [I think 800] folders. Menus and pop up menus are in framework ..800dp and drawable-xxhdpi.
Might need a q&a for themers. I thought I was late to the party but I'm not seeing a lot of themes.

Alright thanks for that. We only had 2 themers so far. Your the third It's been a while since I Decompiled. If you would like, here's the stock systemui and framework from iron from T800. Uploaded it just in case I mess up and for you to look if you want. https://mega.co.nz/#F!i0wCTapZ!RP83sWXTdksm4PqpxVQ8wA
When ever you have your apks uploaded, I'll take a look and see what's needed to be changed. If it doesn't seems to work for me then I guess I'll have to hand it to you. I'm not as great as you seem to know most of it. Thank you for the help! I'll give it a go tommrow
I posted a test and empty zip for us to get started.
