So my wife dropped her Rezound and the screen cracked. We do have the insurance through Verizon and figured I'd check here before calling Verizon since I need to know how to play this and get a replacement. Will they replace my phone or will they only replace it if our phonse is lost or stolen? Does anyone know how much it costs to get a replacement.

With a cracked screen it will cost $99 to replace. If it was a defect with the phone it would of been free. Kinda sucks but its better then shelling out $200+ for a new phone cause of the insurance. This is from personal experience with my own rezound.
seems pretty lame since that's about what it would cost me without the insurance.

If the picture isn't distorted and your glass is simply cracked, just get a Rezound LCD Digitizer with tools from amazon or ebay and some 3M 2mm digitizer tape. It'll only cost you 30 bucks to repair your screen, and you can choose between getting a verizon branded or unbranded digitizer while you're at it.

ugh, i tried this..only do this if you know what you're doing...i sure as hell didn't, and there's NO repair how to video out there about how to re-assemble the screen..they all convieniently skip that part. i ddin't even know i had to buy new adhesive since nobody said anyhting about that...
in the end, i have a screen with smudges on the LCD from the adhesive i had to pick at, since it was clearly visible underneath the digitzer, and then of course there's dust all over the place because it's impossible NOT to get dust under there, and the ribbon cable is peaking through the top, and i'm sure there's gonna be screen lift at some point. oh, and my bezel is def warped and bent out on the left side from prying with that stupid safe pry tool to get the digitzer out....clearly it isn't so safe!
oh and not to mention that my menu button doesn't fully light up anymore like the rest of them, because apparently you hvae to get teh LED's on there JUST RIGHT for them to light correctly.
yeah it cost $30, but it was a gift to my brothers wife until she can upgrade in a year...sure, she doesn't notice any of that, and it's a huge upgrade from her fascinate, but my brother and i sure do. we both did it together, and if me, someone who tinkers with electronics all the time, and him, a mechanical engineer, can't get it perfect, i'd say to just get the insurance replacement lol i would have, def, especially if you're as picky as me.....
Me doing it myself is probably not going to happen.

$99 later and a new rezound in hand.
Next question!
If I got a lemon, do I just deal with Assurian or can I get a replacement thru Verizon? On the screen when I got the phone it said 1 year Assurian warranty. Do I cancel my $7 a month insurance?
Thanks for the insight if anyone has experience beyond my point so far.

no i think you need to keep asurion to get it replaced warranty wise through asurion. and yeah, you call verizon, but asurion is who warranty replaces it
I wish I could find a way to get another S3 but if she dropped the Rezound, the S3 would have no chance of survival.

So, I got a really bad luck. My phone never fall on the street when I use the case; just when I take off the case, it fell down and cracked my screen on the bottom right near the Search button. It's still functional and the crack is not really bad, just kind of annoying when I realized that there's a crack there (not that noticeable for me, literally only a small piece of the screen on bottom right that got cracked)
So, I am just looking through my options here. I left my phone in stock condition because I don't want to void the warranty; but now that it's cracked, ....
Should I just root my phone, play with it, and deal with the small crack?
Or, if I left it in stock condition and change the glass, will I be able to claim warranty (in case anything happen)?
Or should I just get a new phone on CL? (like HTC One S maybe )
Any suggestion is welcomed

All depends on how much work you want to do and/or money you want to spend.
If you replace the screen yourself you'd have to remove "void" stickers and you know what that means as far as warranties go.
SOOOOO...
1) If you have insurance, you can replace the entire phone for $130.
2) If you don't have insurance, you can replace the screen yourself since it wouldn't matter if you void the warranty. You can buy a screen from eBay for about $30 or so.
Screen: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digitizer-T...949?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c630ce6e5
Screen replacement video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA4JToM5uxA
Personally: My screen cracked and I've toyed with the idea of replacing the screen myself. Since I have insurance and I replace my phones a lot I didn't want to void my warranty so I decided to go through Asurion. For $130 I received a new phone, new casing, new battery and a new charger. Basically, I now have double of everything (except for phone since I had to return the cracked one).
Breakdown:
Per T-mobile's site:
Battery = $30
Charger = $15
Battery Cover = $20 (per ebay)
Total = $65 in Accessories
Cost for new phone = $65
Doing the replacement I got about $65 worth of accessories on top of a new phone for $65. Not too bad compared to just buying a new phone.
Bottom line, it all depends on you and what you're willing to do/spend. Don't worry about rooting until you make the decision to keep or replace your current phone.

OMG . i didn't know replacing the screen myself will void the warranty... -_-" plus after looking at the video for 2 mins. i will decline to the idea of replacing it myself
I bought the phone off CL about 2 months ago (FOR $230 !! ); so, I don't think it has any insurance. Can I still get an insurance at this point?
If I can't, I guess I will either live with it; or sell it and get another phone

Really? So they're willing to change my cracked screen and add another year of warranty? I bought the phone off CL so there's no insurance, and i thought warranty normally doesn't cover this kind of damage.

Dude I'm there wth u! Got my water damage amaze (no warranty ) off CL. Phone worked great til I dropped it. With red water damage mark and cracked screen I had nothing to lose so I took it apart. I have to say its the easiest phone I ever worked on. Just so u know the digitizer is glued to the LCD so getting em apart is the tricky part. If you have the $130 or even $145 option available that's the way to go. The cheapest I've seen the pre assembled digitizer/LCD part is $115 so if you decide to take yours apart be careful separating digi from lcd ! You will need hair dryer.

Just wondering... is the replacement brand new or refurb? The crack wasn't that bad imo. So, getting a refurb doesn't sound like a very good idea to me (it might have some functionality problems).
Here is the pic of the crack on the phone... Since I bought the phone from CL for 230, paying extra 145 doesn't sound too good for me (it's 70% of the phone price in my case!!!). Anyway, thanks for the replies
They were supposed to replace the screen in my phone, but a few days after I paid for it htc called me and said they didn't have any parts and asked if I'd be Ok with a new unit.. Or wait like 3 weeks for parts... So i got a new unit. But they shipped only the phone. On a side note I had a problem a couple weeks ago with the aluminum coming off from around the camera, called htc explained the problem. They asked what color I wanted, told them white. Got the new back opened it was black, called htc told them they shipped me a white one and told me to keep the black one... Sweet. I'm in the middle of a project for my gf, painting the aluminum on the original baxk green for her, it was relatively easy to take apart the back. Stay tuned for pics coming soon....

Hmm by phone only you mean they only give you the phone without everything else right? That sounds like a refurb replacement to me...
Anyhow, thanks for the reply. I think I will just use my phone as is and root it someday. I am starting to get used to that small crack. lol
So on the 200th time I droped my Amaze, the screen cracked. I have Asurion insurance and filed a claim online and they are sending me another Amaze (for $130). This is fine because I like the phone, my contract is up and I plan to get another phone once I find something I like (most phones out now dont seem like much of an upgrade). I plan to keep the replacement Amaze as a backup and quit paying for the insurance. My question is: do I just need to send the phone back, i.e. can I keep the battery as a spare? Also, I am rooted and S-off running CM10. I dont plan to do anything to return the phone to stock. Is this a bad idea or does it not matter?
Jumping out my truck in a rush with s3 in hand it slipped and fell flat on the screen. Screen cracked right in the middle all the way through ... Is my only option to buy a new phone
Ouch.
Its repairable but its an expensive repair as entire screen + digitizer assembly needs to be replaced.
Parts are available: http://cnn.cn/shop/samsung-i9300-galaxy-c-26_1412.html
You might want to ask local Samsung repair centre for paid repair quote. Might be very close to the cost of part and might make better sense to get it done through Samsung directly.
didnt you use a case or screen guard? if so you did a big mistake you can take it for samsung service center and ask them to replace it, but they will charge for sure..

No, you have to replace the screen... there's a video on youtube how to dismantle SGS3.
Or, you could probably still get $400 for it on eBay. (If you're not the type who attempts to repair things on your own...)
Man I feel for you. I dropped my phone yesterday, it landed on it's face and has marks on the screen. The first thing I done was phone my insurance company and swap the details from my old s2 to this one .. I know I will do it again .

you didnt mention if the sreen was funtional, is it?
id just keep it if it was still functiional. it looks weird when off but barely noticeable in the pics.
just another opinion. of course if its non functioning that option isnt there lol
Damn s3 so breakable. I remember when i had s2 and note, it felt from my hands a lot of times and no scratches or broken display
I got a Squaretrade warranty for mine -- $69 for a year and covers accidental damage. (Doesn't cover loss or theft though...). They also charge a 99 dollar deductible, but that's still better than the almost $700 I paid for it to begin with.
A quick reminder, buying insurance on something after damaging it, then using the insurance to repair it *is* fraud, which is illegal, don't get us in trouble m'kay!

the important question is who is the lovely lady?
SGS2 & SGS3 screen
Samsung used the Gorilla Glass for SGS2. But for SGS3, they used the Gorilla Glass 2 which is much thinner than on SGS2 that's why it's easily breaks. For me, I will stay on my SGS2.
looks like i'll be buying a case for mine seeing all these posts about screen breakage. but until I find the right case, at least i have 90 days of lost & damage protection from Amex!

Screen damage is not the end of the world.......i have been looking at tear downs for the SGS3 and they are pretty basic, even replacing the screen ( which will prob end up costing where abouts of 249 dollars) but that over trashing a new device. i have dropped my sgs3 3 times in the last week and the silver bumper looks Hella Ratty, but my screen is perfect.
i am going to buy a replacement screen as the housing and the screen are joined together, or else i would really need to do some heat gun and gental pulling of the screen to get it out of the housing. but its not hard yall.
if your screen is cracked and you dont have warranty, maybe a screen is the way to go. all you need is small screw driver and a flat metal/plastic peice to pull of the board connections.

What do you mean by that? Did you crack only the LCD display under the glass or did you crack the whole front part of the glass that goes over the LCD display?
If it is only the LCD screen UNDER the glass that is cracked, you can replace it yourself. http://www.amazon.com/Sprint-Screen-Display-Mobile-Replacement/dp/B0084C4O4Y
If you cracked the whole darn top part, then you are SOL, since there is no parts of this available yet.
Isn't this why we pay for TEP monthly?

The One X digitizer will not work as that screen has curved edges, whereas ours is flat throughout.
If you're already paying for insurance you should pay the deductible and trade it in. You'll spend money to get a replacement part anyway, plus your time and you might not be able to do it well or at all. You're actually getting the best deal since you've only spent one month's worth of TEP premiums.

I had to replace the digitizer on my Evo 3D. It also required removing the LCD. While it was cool to do and an awesome experience, IT WAS A NIGHTMARE!!!
The digitizer never quite sat right back in the phone right. 1" of the right side of the screen was not responsive. This was either a bad, cheap digitizer from eBay or I screwed something up. The only reason I did this was because I had three weeks to go before the Evo 4G LTE was coming out and Sprint wouldn't repair it. I also had a spare cheap Android phone I activated until the 4G LTE was released.
I found both of these companies will let you ship the phone to them and will repair the device professionally. Might want to look into it. I would use either if I did it again.
http://www.irepairfast.com/ doesn't list the Evo 4G LTE yet, but they do have a place you can ask about it. Since they repair the One X, it might be possible.
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/repair-service.html seems to do this as well. The cost looks to be about $25.00 above the repair part costs (at least for the device in the linked page). They also don't mention the Evo 4G LTE, but I would contact them as well.
I would expect to spend about $100. That said, that is way cheaper than TEP or a new phone.
Good luck!
finding the part
Has anyone found anyone that actually stocks the digitizer for the EVO 4G LTE? I don't need the LCD, just the digitizer by itself. I found it on durapowerglobal.com, but they have it listed as Backordered and have told me they haven't got any yet and it will be "a while" before they have some in stock.
I wonder if it's just too early in the phone's lifecycle to be on the radar for some of these repair parts vendors. If enough of us start bugging them then maybe they'll work on getting stock sooner!! I already sent an inquiry to the irepairfast.com site to see if they had a time frame for availability.
Wont they replace a screen for like $35 at the Sprint repair shops?? And fyi I think your deductible would be $150 not $100. TEP increased their rates...
I tried to get Sprint to repair the screen on my Evo 3D. They flat out refuse unless you have TEP. Unfortunately.
I highly recommend you contact those repair companies and ask when they can fix it. One of the does custom jobs I think. An email to them can't hurt.
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G LTE using Tapatalk!
I shattered my screen yesterday, and when I went in to have them fix it, they turned me away, too.
They said it's "physical damage" and that they don't do those kinds of repairs. They told me they'd replace the phone for $150 (TEP), so I told them I'd do it myself. Now it looks like I'm stuck with a broken screen for a while....

I just received the part this week from durapowerglobal. It was back ordered for a few weeks, but they communicated with me during the wait and it looks like it's going to do the trick. I hope to take on the project tonight of replacing it. I hope this is a $30 fix and there are no surprises during or after the install!!!

Dropped mine on it's face a little over a week ago. Thank God I had TEP. Called, and only paid $100 and they sent me a brand new one overnight. The only problem I had was that it came brand new, but with all the new software updates, so I couldn't root it. But at least I'm not shaving my face with my phone while using it.
EDIT: Attached some pictures...

Wont they replace a screen for like $35 at the Sprint repair shops?? And fyi I think your deductible would be $150 not $100. TEP increased their rates...

Here's what I can say about that. I took it to 3 different corporate stores in my area, and 2 third-party repair centers. None of them could even touch the phone in the condition mine was in (see above). Was forced to go through Asurion for a replacement, and for some reason only paid $100 for my deductible.
Hey, so I cracked my One X+ screen quite badly, it fell on it's side on a wood floor, and it cracked.
Thing is, this isn't a normal crack, if I put it in my pocket, I end up with pieces of glass everywhere, and if I use it, my fingers get cut and bleed, so I can't use it right now.
I am not a handy guy myself, so I won't even try fixing it, I've been checking out some places, they seem decent, but they mostly do iPhone repairs. One of them quoted me $150, and another $130
The $150 has a 5-star yelp rating, but then again, iPhone screens (from what I know) are fairly easy to replace
I'm so pissed at myself, because I never wanted to use a case, as the phone is really sexy and feels good.
I e-mailed corning for the gorilla glass damage, which was weird, and they said that they will pay me $200 for the phone and they will (obviously) keep it for research (Probably replace the screen and sell it?)
I'm so worried, because after reading around, it seems that HTC One X screens never end up looking good, and I can imagine that being worse for the X+, as it is a bit more rare.
The screen is cracked on the side, and those cracks extend all the way to the other side of the phone, but on the left side, the glass is just destroyed.
Will post pics later
Wow, that sucks bud. I broke the screen on my SGSII last year and just chucked it and bought a phone on E-bay.
I replaced the screen on an I-pod and it was pretty simple. I did a lot of research before I did it and it turned out good.
I don't know what to tell you as far as replacement. If you got $200.00 for the broken one and could find one on E-bay for $450.00, you would have a replacement for $250.00. Just a thought.
Best of luck and post some picks when you can.
Steve
Yeah, I'm mostly discarding that option. I do wonder if its actually possible for the phone to end up decently after one of these repairs

I spose if you found someone qualified to do the repair, it should be like new when it's done. Be sure they use a good quality screen and digitizer for the repair. Should even consider using a direct HTC replacement. Of course that will up your cost.
I spose it depends on what you are willing to do for your phone. How bad do you want your HOX+ back??
I would just send it to HTC, cost me 180 british pounds, the good side is that you will get a new unibody, and a full service on the insides of the phone. I think its well worth it, and it keeps your warranty in play.

I don't care much about the warranty, if it dies I'll replace it, thing is, I can get upto $150, since I'm a high school kid, and (this is serious!) my parents said that if I break my phone, they're not replacing my phone in the next 2 years.
So they don't know.

Actually the one x and one x plua use the same screen/digitizer and you have to pry the back of it off and disconnect it all if you really want that phone to work and keep any bit of warrenty send it to htc if not bring it to a repair shop

The One X and One X + are definitely a difficult replacement. You need to FULLY clean up the old adhesive and take your time or you will get bad results. You also need to use the right adhesives to get good results. It would cost about $10 to $15 to get a role of adhesive you could use (trimming needed in tight areas) that would do about 50 phones.
Take your time and be thorough. Also be REALLY carefull with all the flex cables or you will be screwed when you put it back together.
I have fixed about 25 of the One X and one One X+ and its a minimum of 1.5 hours of work for me now and I know exactly what to do.

I just dropped my phone yesterday and it cracked the glass. I'm super depressed because I've had a ton of phones and was proud that I've never cracked a screen before, but alas... I'm comfortable working on electronics, and I'm looking to tackle the screen replacement myself if possible.
My questions begin here. I've discovered the glass is fused to the LCD panel so that makes it difficult to replace. Is it worth replacing the glass and keeping the screen original? Are the LCD assemblies purchased on eBay as good as the HTC version? I see that most of the LCD screens on eBay don't have Verizon branding, that makes me think they aren't really OEM so I'm worried about buying one with red buttons and the screen being sucky.
Any advice would be much appreciated, anyone who's had any experience changing the LCD please chime in with your input!

Got mine off ebay i got the whole front half of phone lcd and all, only thing it was missing was ear speaker, and it's an oem screen not no cheap china crap claiming to be an lcd3 screen!!!!

Your best bet is to buy the lcd and digitizer pressed together. I don't think it's possible to replace just the lcd, if it is its very hard.

Did you buy one that has the Verizon branding on it? I'm tempted to do it on my own, but if I do I'm also tempted to buy the LCD that has had the capacitive buttons changed to red. Those screens don't have that Verizon label though and that just makes me really nervous.
The other thing that's holding me back is that my phone is insured. If the cost to replace it is $100 or less it isn't worth buying a replacement LCD for $80 IMO. I need to head over to the Verizon Store for that answer though.

A dev over in the Rezound area decided to get a cheap China off brand digitizer for his Rezound replacement. It had faulty internals and hard bricked his phone. Sometimes that few extra dollars saves a big headache.
Also, for the record, it was his 17th time fixing that specific model of phone, so it wasn't an error on his part.

This.
It appears as though I will have to pay a $99 deductible to replace the phone. So it's not really worth spending the $80 on an OEM screen/glass assembly. I'm thinking about just waiting it out until the 28th to see if the Nexus 5 will support Verizon LTE. If it does then I'm totally buying one and that will render this phone moot. Thank you for all of your advice!

I believe its best to use your insurance rather than do it yourself because if you dive into your phone and break something else it you could void your warranty. And considering it is a $650 phone, i think its safer to use your insurance. BUT if you ship it off to places like MobileTechVideos, they place a new void sticker on it after they have reassembled it. I sent my phone there and I was pleased with my services.
Claim on the insurance is most likely what I'm going to do. After all that's what it's for! My hopes of a Verizon LTE Nexus 5 have been crushed it seems. Hopefully by year's end we will have Sense 5 coming to us OTA so I don't have to flash it. My old Droid Charge was easy to flash, this phone is more difficult it seems.
