[Q] Change the 4x4 home screen grid to 5x5, possible?

There seems to be enough screen space to fit 5x5 icons on the homescreens instead of 4x4.
What's the easiest way to do this on a stock SGS3?
I don't think there are any mods yet to change the stock TW launcher. You might want to check out Apex Launcher or Nova Launcher if you haven't already.

In fact, TW is already modded...
Here
Or just install another launcher such as Go Launcher.

I tried out Nova (free) for a few days, have uninstalled due to:
- icons sometimes take a while to reappear.
- Calendar / S Planner widget sometimes takes a long time to populate.
The TW mods appear to need root... so I'm back to stock TW, and realizing that I don't need more than 4x4 that badly.

Widget selection screen

I find this widget selection screen clumsy and ugly in Touchwiz, it's much better in GolacherEX and other launchers.
Anyone know how to make it display widgets list alike, like it was before?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
long press home screen, select widgets from menu....job done
Thats exactly how widgets look when i do that, this was like this on SGS3Touchwiz, Galaxy S2 had this list alike widget list, also had mod that same widgets were grouped together.

ah, my bad, I'm using nova launcher which gives the old style list, must be touchwiz way then....change launcher
Nah...first time now i like how stock launcher looks, nova is ugly.

If you need stock TW launcher then I think you need to get used to it. This is how stock ICS launcher handles widgets and apparantly sammy didn't bother changing it.. But I kinda like it.
Lots of things sammy dont think, they should have listen the users more. Nova is ok, Golauncher seems better, but i stick with stock till someone makes new hacked version of this touchwiz.
I really like how stock launcher change pages, havent seen so cool looking on any launchers even they have more options to change it.

I do like TW launcher but what bugs me a lot is the way TW launcher create folder. Samsung choose to use ICS style on the widgets but decided not to use ICS style on adding folder. Doesn't make any sense. :banghead:

Maybe use apex launcher and then choose touchwiz theme as design? Dunno if that fits all your needs though
I use sslauncher and hitting the menu key gives the traditional.Samsung options, like settings / wallpaper and long press the screen gives options for Widgets etc.

Homescreen transition animation will never be the same
And of course the clock widget will be gone. So not fit to my need.

Best launcher for jelly bean!!!!

What is the best launcher for jelly bean???
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
It depends on your own taste. Try typing launcher in Play Store.
I personally prefer HoloLauncher.
Wow, if you ask five people you might get five different answers. As eksasol said, it depends on what you like and what you want from your launcher. I've used holo HD, apex, TW, ADW, and of course trebuchet. I just started using holo, its real nice. Apex is a good launcher as well. My suggestion is test them and decide which works for you.
Paranoid, sitting in a deep sweat...
Yes its depend on your Taste personally i use trebuchet or Apex
Trebuchet on my S3 and Apex on my girlfriend's S2.
Nova with Nova Prime is my fav. It's the only one I use

Hi I've read on other threads that there is a new "Android JellyBean Launcher" but unfortunately I cannot find it. Do they mean the out of the box launcher?? If so I do not see what is the purpose...
Anyway if anyone has the answer
I found Xperia Home so fast, stable and it really looks great with some simple but amazing functions..
Nova launcher is the only one i use

Try Buzz launcher.
ADW

Already tried nova but it looked heavier. I'll also try buzz

I am trying smart launcher now... give it a try.. u might like it.... light n simple interface ..
I'm using Holo HD right now, and I can say that its fast and much more customisable than Apex or Nova...... Trebuchet is too heavy on my ROM, takes up about 13 mb of precious space...

Apex for me was lighter than holo... is this a new release?? because 13mb is really a very small ram consumption (compared to trebuchet / shendu laucher etc etc)

I wasn't taliking abt ROm... I'm no fan of apps 2 SD, so I prefer internal memory. there trebuchet takes up 13 mb... Holo HD takes just 1 mb.
love xperia laucher.... for simple, small, minimalist launcher, try Zeam.

Try Action launcher. Covers are an amazing idea and a great way to have all your favorite widgets easily accessible with out clutter and taking up lots of space on your home screen.

Another vote for Zeam. Simple & fast.

Nova launcher smoother than Apex?

I initially installed Apex launcher and like the way the settings are organized. And really like that it has the Keep in Memory setting (thought I haven't experienced any redraws with other launchers). However it's not very smooth in a number of ways. Scrolling in the app drawer going right-left, scrolling between homescreens sometimes, opening apps from home screens is often not smooth.
Nova on the other hand seems to be very good, but I'll have to pay to get all the features of Apex Free (which is fine).
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this behavior with Apex (I've experienced the same on two other S3's).
Well …Liquid smooth on my S3
No lagging, and Apex is is best launcher ever used
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, they both have drawbacks. Nova is indeed smooth, but no dock background and is glitchy with transparent nav bar. Apex, more features, less performance. I'm stuck in a rut, because I want to change my home screen, but I'm afraid I'll have to switch to Apex. Oh well.
>-Sent From Something That's From Somewhere-<
Yes.
I have used both but I like Apex Launcher most because it is more customisable than Nova launcher.
U can also change the icons.

Go Launcher is also an other launcher.
Its amazing.
U may like it.
U can find it on play store.
Here is a screen shot of my home screen having Apex Launcher.

Nova vs Apex vs holo launcher hd vs go launcher

Which is better?
Go. Hands down the smoothest. Although battery sucker.
Sent from my HTC Desire X using Tapatalk
I would say Nova, but the new Beta version.
It's crazy fast (Set the Scroll Speed and Animation speed to "faster then light"),transparent statusbar support (the only launcher that actually made my statusbar transparent ) and has a Kit Kat look. Tons of customization. What more do you need ?
I have 2 launchers for you. First of all is Apex Launcher it's smooth and faster and the second is KitKat Launcher it's great to live KitKat experience.

For me the best is Action Laucher

Haha oh dear here we go again... just go with Apex its light on memory and has all the functions you need.
Plus this belongs in Q&A (just for future reference)

I can't believe you're discussing this...it's all matter of taste, and that's very individual. After all, all of them are free on GPlay, so try it, only you know what suits you best, and it cost nothing.
waking the dead is my thing!
any way....I have been using go launcher. found on accident. It is really neat and I am just starting to understand it fully. Now Im seeing here that apex may take up less memory?

I had Apex.. Once. Then I downloaded Nova Launcher beta and I´m still using it No regrets about it, pretty smooth and easy launcher.
Just my opinion
You should try adw launcher. It is the only one I found that has a categorized app drawer. Makes things soo much more organized. And you can just put folder-like category shortcuts on your homescreen for easy access.
Beautyful transition-effects, great dock customisations... Gove it a try, if you are looking for a new favorite launcher.

Alot of users still see ADW as the boring launcher they used whilst on Froyo or gingerbread, as apex is for ICS

Is there a launcher that allows alphabetical listing in the app drawer like in the samsung touchwiz?
I just installed holo laucher as the first since I bought my GN3 last year. it looks smooth and very customizable as I can finally change the grid's density from 4x4 to more icons in the home screen but I miss that one column list like app drawer from touchwiz
ADW .
ADW launcher EX pro is the best launcher i found for me
it is really awesome , just try it
fast , easy , have a lot of customizations

I installed Nova and I must say I'm pretty impressed so far. I can configure the apps drawer in an alphabetical list style and much more.
One thing I find a little disappointing but that seems to be the same problem for all launchers is that the non resizable widgets are screwed up if I add them to the home screen when the grid size is changed to 5x5 or more
