Hey all,
When I run ADW Launcher EX, I try to add the "Favorite Contacts" widget to my homescreen. But it bugs out and the space remains blank. You can interact with it by pressing and holding down and you get the same drop down menu for altering it as any other ADW widget but that's it. And of course the invisible widget takes up space.
Any thoughts on how we might fix it? I'm not a fan of Blur generally but I do think it's a pretty cool widget and wouldn't mind having it with a more fluid launcher like ADW.
Thanks in advance
Same thing on launcher pro. Would also like to use it.

I had been told that widget only works in the stock launcher when I briefly tried another launcher and couldn't get it to work either. I don't know if that's true or not.
Thats true the blur widgets dont play nice with other launchers. A alternative is Android Pro Widgets in the market.

I like Nova. I tried Apex when I first flashed Seraphim, but I found one quirk that pushed me back to Nova. I like to set up my one homescreen very minimally, then use a swipe up gesture to launch my app drawer. On Apex, it was really finnicky and would only work with a slow, deliberate, perfectly vertical swipe up, whereas Nova allows some slack and my swipe can be fast and slightly angled, making it super easy to launch the app drawer when I need it. I know I can set a dock icon to do the same swipe up, but I have grown accustomed to swiping anywhere on my screen.
If it weren't for that one issue, I would be all over Apex, as I feel it has a few more options that are nice, and seemed a tiny bit smoother. That one small issue is the only thing keeping me on Nova. Also that and I paid for Nova Prime, so I want to get some use out of it at least.
I've tried everyone mentioned on this thread I can tell you from experience adw EX is my favorite....it has tons of options, from changing icons to scrolling docks,,and different docks,, icons w/no labels on icons,,grid sizelooks good at 6x6,,swipe gestures to hide status bar or do do what you like,,fast scroll or animated scrolling thru screens,,5 home screens,, ...just to name a couple.....If you haven't tried it,,at least try it once.....but remember the best version is the Ex one... wont hurt anything and you may love it,...
Zeam launcher: Fast, free, simple, customizable, no bloat.
Runs better under ICS then GB.
APEX no doubt. Theres an Apex beta which is going to include swipe gestures and more features. i believe those features are locked until you purchase the paid version.

As far as the ICS-like launchers are concerned (namely Apex, Nova, and Trebuchet), the only major area in which they differ is performance and on a very microscopic scale at that. I'm fairly new to Android (my current Galaxy Note is my first Android device) so I'm not aware of everything that is out there but the two launchers I've used under ICS since the leaks have been available to us i717 users are Apex and Nova. As far as transition and animation frame rate, stability (No "frozen" or stuck buttons, no glitchy widget re-sizing when switching to landscape, etc...) and overall speed are concerned, Apex feels much more solid. I have yet to use Trebuchet because I'm waiting on the link to the "NOTEworthy" ROM to be posted which uses Trebuchet as the default launcher. I'll report back in once I've experimented with it and share my experiences.
As far as the classic launchers that have been available for the majority of Android's existence go (GO Launcher, ADW EX, Pro Launcher), it's all a matter of opinion now that ICS is available to us. The primary issue with the classic launchers is when they're used under Gingerbread since there is no GPU rendering API built into the OS like there is in ICS. Essentially, if you aren't opening a full-screen 3D app that uses its own protocol for accessing the hardware for graphic acceleration, then you will have awful performance no matter how well the launcher is designed or written. Thankfully, this no longer has to be an issue since ICS is available to us and third-party code can finally use the kickass GPU in our phablets.
If you like the look of stock ICS better than the look of the traditional launchers, then I would go with Apex because it has the most functionality and performance overall compared to Nova.

It works best with ICS, however it can run on older versions of Android. If you wanted to theme Gingerbread to look like ICS, using the Apex launcher would be a good start.
Im using SPB shell right now.......Super smooth, and a little different.
it will have to do until TSF Shell updates there app to work on our Note.......
ok cool i will give it a try

Wrong. Per Apex launchers web:
Q: My phone is running Android 2.x (Froyo/Gingerbread). Can I use Apex Launcher?
A: Sorry, but the answer is no. Apex Launcher is based on the stock Android 4.x (Ice Cream Sandwich) launcher, and it uses many new APIs that are not available in previous versions of the system.
Another vote for Nova here. It's pretty similar to Trebuchet or Apex in look, but it has some additional features in the Prime version.
so here it is, a once and for all......
BATTLE of LAUNCHERS
Go Launcher Ex VS Rosie VS Apex VS Nova VS ADW VS GDE VS ZEAM VS Ts Shell VS 360 VS Spb Shell VS Panda Home VS Launcher Pro VS Launcher7 VS Android Severn Pro VS Launcher (default)
Let the battle commence
please give your reasons why
Go Launcher Ex, with Go Notification added on, also, skinned ics/cyanogen
Go Keyboard, skinned ics blue with arrows
Go Contacs/dialer, skinned ics blue
Go SMS, skinned ics blue
by far the most customizable, and superior launcher ui, ive tried, with loads of advanced features in all of them above, regualr updates, and hundreds and hundreds of 3rd party add-ons
Using nova launcher right now and I like it. Works really good. Before ICS I used adw ex and launcher pro.

NOVA
I have never been a fan of launchers, I like sense everytime I set up a launcher I would always go back to sense. I have found that I really like NOVA and have been using it now for a few day and I think Im actually gonna keep it.
I havent tried Apex though... going to go dl it now
Voted for Rosie as it's the funnest to theme along with the widgets. Plus in Sense the 3D effects are much smoother than launchers with similar transitions (and it looks better imo)
Go launcher Ex. I like the widgets and themes.

I am back on ADW EX and still feel it offers the best UI with hidden dock, gestures, customizable, widget resizing, etc. Dev support is now pretty much dead unfortunately.
Still love Launcher Pro Plus. He made some great widgets, but not quite as good as ADW. Again dev support appears dead.
Go Launcher is very good, I just got sick of the bookmarks widget switching back to navigation. For a widget lover like me it's alot of options. Great support.
The ONLY thing I like about Rosie is the widgets. Best in class widgets. Can't customize, number of home screens,... Without a scrolling dock it won't suffice for me.

Used ADW alot when I was on gingerbread. But since switching to ICS I went from NOVA to Apex. To me Apex just seemed smoother.

One more for apex here...
here is my own personal rundown:
1. Apex
2. GO L EX
all others in my opinion lack the functionality and clean ass look of both of those. GO launcher was the only one I would even touch before ICS was available for the 3D. Apex is designed for ICS imo because it is the only OS that will run it cleanly.
Downside to both is that they are memory hogs. Apex launcher accumulates memory usage over a period of time (I have seen it as high as 60mb) but a quick restart cleans it up to 30 or so.
Rosie for me. The whole sense experience has it's detractors but it's one of the reasons why I even looked at an HTC phone. With 3.6 and 4.0 reducing the bloat and cleaning up it makes it an even more attractive option.
Yes sure it doesn't have the flexibility and functionality of other launchers but the look and the amazing widgets IMO plays a large part in making our phones stand out. It's always nice to have the choice though.
I dont think that any launcher can beat Go Launcher Ex. Simple it's the best.

I have been using Lightning Launcher on all my devices for quite a while now.
It's blazing fast and incredibly customizable, just not as intuitive/user-friendly as popular launchers like Go Launcher.
You can have a desktop that's freely scrollable on both x and y axis. There's support for widgets, but scrollable widgets are harder to use in said free mode, obviously.
It's one of the very few launchers that's written from scratch and is not based on the stock aosp launcher. Give it a try if you want to see something new. Just don't expect the same level of user interaction that Go Launcher of even TSF Shell offer.
It takes some time to get used to it, but in my opinion, it's perfectly worth it
The best launcher after "htc Sense" is Apex
I've been using MiHome for ics. It works nicely.

Using mainly go launcher ex, but I have nova, sense 3.6 (Sensation 4g) and apex on my phone and I have been slowly but surly setting them up. Nova is fast and buttery smooth and so is apex but I like nothing beats the customization of go launcher ex for me.
Nova launcher ftw

Voted for Rosie, the reason why I choose HTC devices is sense, HTC without sense will make no sense
For me,Sense is the best!
Which is better?
Go. Hands down the smoothest. Although battery sucker.

I would say Nova, but the new Beta version.
It's crazy fast (Set the Scroll Speed and Animation speed to "faster then light"),transparent statusbar support (the only launcher that actually made my statusbar transparent ) and has a Kit Kat look. Tons of customization. What more do you need ?
I have 2 launchers for you. First of all is Apex Launcher it's smooth and faster and the second is KitKat Launcher it's great to live KitKat experience.

Plus this belongs in Q&A (just for future reference)

I can't believe you're discussing this...it's all matter of taste, and that's very individual. After all, all of them are free on GPlay, so try it, only you know what suits you best, and it cost nothing.
waking the dead is my thing!
any way....I have been using go launcher. found on accident. It is really neat and I am just starting to understand it fully. Now Im seeing here that apex may take up less memory?

I had Apex.. Once. Then I downloaded Nova Launcher beta and I´m still using it No regrets about it, pretty smooth and easy launcher.
Just my opinion
You should try adw launcher. It is the only one I found that has a categorized app drawer. Makes things soo much more organized. And you can just put folder-like category shortcuts on your homescreen for easy access.
Beautyful transition-effects, great dock customisations... Gove it a try, if you are looking for a new favorite launcher.

Is there a launcher that allows alphabetical listing in the app drawer like in the samsung touchwiz?
I just installed holo laucher as the first since I bought my GN3 last year. it looks smooth and very customizable as I can finally change the grid's density from 4x4 to more icons in the home screen but I miss that one column list like app drawer from touchwiz
ADW .
ADW launcher EX pro is the best launcher i found for me
it is really awesome , just try it
fast , easy , have a lot of customizations

I installed Nova and I must say I'm pretty impressed so far. I can configure the apps drawer in an alphabetical list style and much more.
One thing I find a little disappointing but that seems to be the same problem for all launchers is that the non resizable widgets are screwed up if I add them to the home screen when the grid size is changed to 5x5 or more
Apex Launcher
or
Nova Launcher
or
ssLauncher
They are so similar... can´t decide
or is there one "HAVE TO" feature, mybe for a tablet, I am not aware of, one has - the other doesnt´t that decides it all?

Personally, I love Nova Launcher because I don't use a dock and have a two finger gesture to open the app drawer.
I'm using apex launcher. It has tablet mode to hide the dock. Can use gesture. And the most important thing, I can install apex notifier to show notification bubble over the app icon

I just installed nova launcher to compare with apex. Surprisingly, all the nova features are present in apex. On top of that, apex has KitKat style search bar, customizable desktop portrait grid, Apex notifier as mention before, smoother drawer scroll.
I suggest u install both launcher and compare them to see which one u like

I have both, but have a slight preference for Apex. There is not much difference between the two. One thing I like about Apex is drawer animations seem smoother.
I have only used Apex and Nova. You can't go wrong. I personally decided to buy Nova. Nova also has a notification bubble addon. Plus widgetlocker is made by the same guy(s) which is a plus.
It doesn't really matter though. Both great launchers. Both free to try out.
You can get Go launcher prime for free at the moment via an In-app code (appsales)
Nova FTW all day EVERY day

Nova

Nova seems faster.
You can't go wrong with either. They are both free so give them a try and see what you like better.
