Hello, I have some questions, and need some advice and help - Thank You
Firstly, i am new to android, and recently got a new phone, running ICS. However im having some problems.
My Phone has 1gb RAM
I haven't installed much, and I have Disabled most of the pre installed rubbish.
Yet, it always says, 490MB USED RAM? Why is this? I even calculated the stuff i had running and it was around 290-310mb MAX, So why is so much RAM Being used? ( This is after I have installed and killed apps, i installed Advance Task Killer and Task Manager)
Secondly, Hard Drive space is no issue, i have 1.9gb free internet and USB sotre is i think around 8gb, when installing apps, Do You recommended to move them USB Storage or keep them in internal ( if i put them in USB Storage is there a chance of them being/working slower.
and Finally the biggest and main problem, How do i stop my phone from Sleeping? Its driving me crazy! After a while (when i am not using it) the phone goes into sleep mode, when i want to use it i cant, wake it up from my buttons, i have to use the power button right at the top, is there a way to alter this?
Thank You
try something like settings>display>screen timeout and/or settings>applications>development>stay awake. Also, it helps people help you if they know what phone you have and what carrier you're on.
Some of the apps do not support movement to ext storage.. Rest can be moved without problems..

I have had this ROM installed on my Galaxy s2 i777 for about 2 days. in this time, i have noticed that there is no way to clear RAM on it so when i am close to running out, the device starts to lag a lot and slows down. is there any way to clear the RAM? i know that the stock firmware has Program Monitor and i used that but this SuperNexus one doesnt have anything to clear my multitasking. I have tried to hold down the home button until the tasks pop up in the small windows but when i slide to clear them, im not sure theyre actually being killed.
Please help me find a way to fix this lagginess because i am thinking of going back to stock firmware.
I cant post this on the android development thing because i am a "New User" so i have to post it here

Correct me if I'm wrong but couldn't you just download a task manager or task killer from the market and kill the apps to free up the ram?
Lol idk! I just restarted the phone because it started to lag/ freezeup . When I checked ram there was only 64mb free out of around 800. After I restart it the phone works fine but I guess I have to reboot frequently

If your phone does not lag, or if performance has not changed I wouldn't worry to much. I have been using this rom for a few days now with no issues with speed or performance, so I wouldn't worry to much

Well I don't know what to say. I've run all the jb ports and most of the ICS roms and haven't noticed this happening to me. Then again I probably have a lot less apps installed than most. Have u tried doing full wipe a reinstalling and giving it some time to settle in again?

I don't know if I'm breaking a rule, I saw this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1969555), but I don't think so.
my question is: "there is a way for free up RAM space, and/or make the phone quicker?" (using stock ics .587)
.. because every time i press back botton, it use about 4 second to do the action. I used a task killer if course.
I'm using this phone about 3 weeks, it is a present, and it was new, not second hand.. so is a little bit STRANGE.
I'm prepared to root my phone if necessary.
thanks for any answer!

"tits"? lol
anyway dont use task killer, it do more harm than good.
root your phone, and use something like auto memory manager to modify android native memory manager value. the auto memory manager is free in google play.
or if u wanna do more just unlock bootloader and flash custom kernel. custom kernel usually have better memory mangement, power mangement etc compared to stock kernel.

so, Auto Memory Manager isn't just snake oil like all the task killers and RAM boosters?
No, auto memory manager just adjusts the threshold limit for the lowest free memory that will be accepted by the os and will only kill tasks if the free memory gets below the threshold limit,
whereas task killers will kill the task irrespective of the threshold limit.

Hi everybody.
I got a problem with my S3 I9300.
The thing is that it is stuck/freezes very frequently during the day.
Sometimes it doesn't wake up from deep sleep (neither if I hit the home button nor the power on/off button) and sometimes it just reboots and I have to enter the SIM PIN.
I really have no clue what the hell is wrong - it worked like a charme until this thing started (about one week ago).
After I reboot the device it is working for ... I cannot say exactly. Hours? Minutes?
During the night it seems like there is no problem - because if it would freeze/reboot I would not hear my alarm
It is rooted and Cyanogenmod 10.1 is running on it (nightly build from the 28th of April).
Are there any logfiles on the system were I can take a look at or something like this? Something is happening and I want to find out what exactly and how to prevent it from happening.
Many thanks in advance for your help.

I've already "flashed"/updated to the newest Cyanogenmod release without success.
But I can give it a try with another ROM/Stock ROM.
Thanks so far.
Have you tried on Settings>Developer Options to disable all animations?
You can also try Greenify app (for rooted phones only) it's disables unnecessary processes.
And by the way don't forget to clean your cache (you can use Clean Master app for that)

Hi Simonna,
thanks - I'll give it a try.
I'll also test if the issue is still persistent with AOKP ROM. If it is, I will try the Stock ROM.

I flashed to the current AOKP ROM some days ago and I have to say it is running really smooth and stable. Just had one hang and this may has been caused by an app. Maybe something was wrong/faulty with the file system or something.
Furthermore thanks for the "Greenify"-App hint. This is app is brilliant!

Then consider visiting Samsung repair representatives.
I have downloaded smart cover so that the screen automatically turns on when I open the flip cover. It works well but as soon as i kill tasks using gemini task killer it stops working. I have changed the setting so that smart cover does not get killed but yet the still problem. Does the task killer affect the proximity sensor in any way?
I really need a solution to this, as it really is annoying having to press the power button every time I open the cover as effortless as it sounds.
Easy solution. Don't use a task killer. Why are you using one? Task killers are not needed on modern android devices.. infact they're detrimental. Do yourself a favour and get rid of it...

Just got my GS5 yesterday, and as soon as I got it I immediately took off all that T-Mobile and Samsung bloatware. But even after downloading clean master the RAM is always above 70%. Sometimes it's at 50-60%. But on my previous Gs4 I was able to have it below 40%. Anyone also have this issue? Or can I do something to have the RAM use less than 50%?

Do apps close due to RAM usage? If not which is most likely the answer then don't worry how much free ram you have . Let Android which effectively handles usage. Golden rule is unused ram is wasted RAM.

Do not worry about ram usage guys..In fact touchwiz is not this hog most make it to be. It has actually gotten better. This lag people complain of is not lag it's animations the way Samsung intended them to be. Some apps need more optimization in the way they function. Unused ram is wasted ram its like being rich and having money but not using it. Apps that sit in ram are NOT running nor consuming any CPU usage. Ram helps apps run and load quickly for daily task. These days its all about optimization. Touchwiz vs Aosp is a mute debate they are made to operate in the same fashion but diffrently. In short don't worry s5 has plenty ram and android knows what to do.
