[Q] Help: Sideloading 4.2 Clock and Camera - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I tried sideloading the DeskClockGoogle.apk and GalleryGoogle.apk but both said installation failed. I checked allow installation from unknown sources and everything. How do I get the 4.2 clock and camera working on the GN2 Verizon?

4.2 clock is in the Play Store...

Have you tried using a root explorer or other root file manager and move the apk. To your system/app and fix permission and reboot. Might want to rename the apk you are replacing with a .bak after it so if you want it back you can just remove the .bak and reboot.

Oh Ok so it either requires root or I have to pay for the Play Store version. Ok...
Also, one quick question, how can I change that annoying water drop sound to a normal touch click sound?

[Q] Pushing App to System/App not in app drawer

Hello, just got the Thunderbolt coming from Samsung Vibrant. I've rooted and flashed deodexed stock rom, etc.
I want to install the AOSP File Manager and have placed the apk in System/App. I've checked all the permissions and rebooted multiple times but the app still doesn't show up in the app drawer? This worked on the Vibrant, not sure if something is different here?
Thanks for any help.
Weird but I figured it out. The file was named "File Manager -Copy.apk". For some reason didn't notice it. Deleted -Copy and it works fine.

Accidentally deleted Gmail. Need apk

Hi all,
I've just rooted my tablet today. In the process of removing bloatware, I accidentally removed Gmail and really need to have the Tablet S's specific Gmail apk file to install it back. It's impossible to install from the market, probably due to the android version.
And hell, why can't Google update the market a tablet version of gmail instead of telling to my face that my device is "incompatible".
Thank you.

Try this link. I cant access the mediafire at work so not sure if it will work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944069&highlight=gmail+apk
No this can't work. The link you posted are the APKs for Froyo. Tablet S runs Honeycomb, and needs a specialized version for the tablet screen.
I will need someone with a rooted tablet to get the APK for me :-(.
Edit:
I can see that you have a rooted S. Could you mind grabbing the APK named Gmail.apk from /system/app/Gmail.apk and upload somewhere? That'd be great.
Edit:
Installed that random Froyo apk (just so the system are fooled that there is some Gmail app). But running it will lead to the app being forced closed.
However, I used root explorer to replace the Gmail apk with the apk from this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310267
And it runs beautifully
Have you downloaded it from the market?

No. I use the APK from the link above. You need root explorer to access the system folders.
You can simply replace your current APK with this one, set the right permission and reboot your tablet. That should work.
But back up your original APK - I hold no responsibility if somehow the APK doesn't work on your tablet.

Problem with Root and SU

So, when I rooted I installed SuperSU and uninstalled Superuser.
Went through the steps to from the mod to get all apps into the multi view window. During the move odex services I got stuck in bootloop and had to re-odin the root image file.
Now that everything is set superuser is obviously the file back in charge of handling SU prompts from apps but for some reason it's not accepting/hearing them so anything I install that requires root is crashing.
Attempted clearing the SU data but it didn't help.
Is there anyway to fix this short of flashing back to stock then back to root?
Would mounting the system as writable, deleting SU and then re-flashing the root image fix the problem?
Basically I'm trying to avoid resetting my phone up to get this done.

I thought for sure that SuperSU is what was used in that file but I guess there must be a couple out there? The method I used never installed Superuser...?
EDIT: Nevermind I see that there are 2 different root methods and one uses SuperSU. Sorry

I used the file from imnuts, which used superuser and not supersu.
I went ahead and deleted superuser, xbin/su and am reflashing. hope this fixes the problem.
which worked until the phone randomly rebooted and got stuck in loop..
and it was either sdpeed increase or lbe privacy guard causing it.
jellybean works better with supersu...try the file mrRobinson created...ie the original root image.

Ive even removed superuser and installed supersu and doing the all apps mod was causing this issue.
I have a feeling it could be because I was renaming the services.odex file before replacing it.
Trying a direct overwrite was causing a non stop bootloop I couldn't get out of 4 seperate occassions.

Google Now Headache

Only because I feel I have exhausted every option do I ask for someones help,I have done all I can think to do.
My Google Now (version 2.7) all of a sudden started FC.I asked for advice in a thread and I was advised to use System App Remover to remove Google Now and reboot,I did and now I am having issues getting anything but an inverted 2.6 Google Now using Team Blackout Updater to install.I have asked around and was told to look for system/app/velvet.apk and remove it but, even that doesn't work.I feel like there is a folder that has been deleted somehow? When I go through the steps to sign in to Google Now and when I get to "Yes,I am in" part it goes to load my cards and FC.
Please,any help appreciated.
Would I have to Odin back to stock to get my apparently missing Google Now files?
Running Hyperdrive RLS9 currently but,I have tried going to TW Eclipse,GE Eclipse, another GE ROM,BonesStock and nothing works to help me fix my issue.
Thanks.

Not sure I can answer it all... but here is the steps...
1. Using any file explorer remove(delete) Velvet.apk and/or QuickSearchBox.apk If for some reason you have both you will get FC's.
2. Reboot to recovery
3. Wipe Cache and then Wipe Dalvik
4. Reboot
5. Flash Inverted or One from Market
6. Test...
7. If still bad, repeat Steps 1-4
8. Using File Explorer go into Data/Data and search for any refreance to quicksearchbox (woudl be a folder) delete.. You might find referances under data/app-asec or data/app-private depending on version of Android running.
9. Repeat steps 1-5
Try flashing someone else's GNow.. I have one here...

Cool... yea use root explorer to delete...
I forgot, this is where I run into another problem that stops me from going forward.
After deleting quicksearchbox.apk, wiping and re-installing using Play store, failing, then going to look for velevet.apk or quicksearchbox.apk again in system/app neither are there! Even though I installed it through Play, there are no references to quicksearchbox or velvet.apk at all anymore in system/app.Only the Google Search widget and I know that isn't it.I did manage to find the folder and deleted it in data/data and that was the only reference found in a search.
Any ideas how to move forward from here?

If you install from Play Store, there will not be a apk named Velvet.apk or QuickSearchBox.apk.. that is a name commonly used by Dev(ROM's/Themers). You apk would be located in data/com.google.android.quicksearchbox-1.apk would be the name... if this is the case.. go to my link and flash mine. It takes care of removeing it and placing Velevet.apk on your system...
try that.
Ugh,lol
This is so stupid!
I went ahead and installed your full inverted zip, tried to get in the app,FC again, managed to find the velvet.apk this time, deleted, searched for and found quucksearchbox folder and deleted again.Rebooted into recovery, wiped, rebooted, rebooted back into recovery flashed your full inverted zip, rebooted, opened the app, clicked Yes,I'm in and FC!

Ok,I'm back at it.
Just deleted velvet.apk, recovery, wipe and I'm about to grab 2.7 from the Play store.
I won't open it.
I looked on your page and didn't see a vrThemed version of Google Now?
Just
Google Now 2.7.9 v1 Velvet Edition
Google Now 2.7.9 v1 QuickSearchBox Edition
** Google Now 2.7.9 v1 Velvet Edition - FULL APK Flashable!!!
Are you talking about the velvet edition?

I'll give that a shot in a bit.
I have never used a logcat.
Will CatLog work?
I just run it before I get a FC and save it and upload to here, right?

Don't ask me how but,I have a inverted 2.7 working right now,lol.
I have no clue how it happened either,I installed a 2.6 apk,got it to load, rebooted my phone for a different reason and the Play store updated Google Now to 2.7,but it's inverted!
How?
Did you ever have a chance to look at that logcat?
I'm still having problems!

OTA System Update - I already have it! (How to stop the notifications?)

I have a Z2 running 23.4.A.1.264 (5.1.1) rooted. All's well up until today when Sony have deemed it necessary to inform me of an update... To 23.4.A.1.264!!!
I've tried using 'DisableSerivices' and disabling SystemUpdateService in Google Services Framework & Google Play Services - After reboot these are showing 'disabled', but problem persists.
I've tried using 'Autostarts', searched for 'systemupdateservice' and disabled when found under GSF & GPS - As above, all still disabled after reboot, but problem persists.
I've tried disabling 'Show Notification' via Apps>Google Play services - After reboot it is re-enabled.
Any ideas how I can get rid of this annoying system update notification I don't need?
Go to System/priv-App and delete UpdateCenter.
Works for me.
Download Root Uninstaller from google play, allow root and delete System Update https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumobile.manager.systemapp

I'll give it a go!
Edit: Removed the APK from the folder. STILL showing the update notification!
I tried the 'Root Uninstaller' and couldn't find 'System Update file.
After a LOT of messing about, I think I've found the culprit.
/data/app/com.sonyericsson.up.updatecenter-1/base.apk
I simply renamed (just in case I needed the file) base.apk to base.old and rebooted. No notification warning as of yet!

Did you make reboot ur phone after delete?
I noticed that when the update is small (this one said it was ~5mb), it will not break root. I just did the update and everything is fine after reboot.

I did wonder this, and it might have been my last option (the nag notification was doing my head in!)
(Still not received any update notifacation after doing my above alteration!)
