4.2 software update? - HTC Droid DNA

I have been hearing rumors about HTC going under and the DNA not receiving any future updates.
I need to know if anybody has some Information about this because I just bought this phone and if I am not going to receive updates I might as well return it.

If the phone doesn't do what you want it to do now, by all means return it.

HTC's not going under, rheyre still a major player in the hardware scene.

Here's a good thing to live by and you'll be happy...buy a phone for what it is not what it will be

I Iike the phone now, but why would other manufacturers devices get supported and mine not. Like the galaxy s3 will mostikely receive android 4.2. This phone should be due for the 4.1.2 update soon.

Thats manufacture dependent, samsung isn't the best one to update their phones,
HTC isn't neither that good, i don't think non of them are good in the "update" industry.
due to the age of this device i would say yes on android 4.2. however when is another question due to HTC not giving any good information (neither does any company)

4.2 blows. When I got it on my nexus 7 I immediately went through a huge process to downgrade back to 4.1. What features of 4.2 do you want that can't be done on 4.1? Multiple users? Doing that on the n7 made the entire device lag so horribly

There are quite a few issues that Google needs to fix before I let 4.2 on my phone

yeah just go on the N7 forums and read everybody complaining about it.
stock AOSP blew because the lockscreen sucked. the new font with the randomly bolded hour is the ugliest thing google has ever done. on top of that, every time you powered the screen on, the sides would flash to remind you that you can add widgets...so everytime you turned it on it lookedl ike it was in edit mode or something.
besides that, multi user control was stupid and lagged the device out badly..multiple reports of this, and once people deleted the second account, it was fine.
terrible battery life, longer time to charge, random reboots..
on top of that, the pulldonw on the tablets was awful because left side was notifications, and right side was quick settings..but many of us are right handed, and use our right thumbs for dropdown, so doing the dropdown would always bring down quicksettings. very annoying. on a phone it wasn't an issue though,s ince you needed two fingers to drop down quick settings.
besides that though, people were just complaining of random lag and bugs..apparently 4.2 on that thing was a complete f-up. and they still never fixed the scrolling bounceback issue..ridiculous!

Also if you have any apps that toggle airplane for you, you can say goodbye to that in 4.2

Ok!
I was just wondering because I bought the phone with good hopes for it. I don't want to invest in a phone that will not receive any future support.

Most likely
Droid X2 prob had development problems with ginger before release, so they went back to froyo and shipped them out to meet their deadlines. Wouldn't make sense financially to spend all that money on different software for the individual phones, when they can just tweak the same one to run on all of them. That's my theory anyways. I'm eyeballing the Nexus Prime, or the Samsung Function. I have a hook up for upgrades whenever though. I say stick with the X2 it will probably run really well with the update, or even some rom love.

I highly doubt that Verizon will get the Nexus Prime, or any Nexus to be honest. I'd probably pass the Function myself, samsung always makes phones of crappy build/poor materials etc. I also doubt that Verizon will get the s2, s3 most likely, but s2 doubtful.

There was a time when I was convinced that VZW would be offering the Galaxy S2 by sometime this summer. Now I'm thinking you could be right. After I played with the Fascinate (S1), that I bought my wife for Mother's Day, the S2 was going to be MY next phone to replace my old WinMoble phone. But I quite waiting and got a Droid X2 instead. I'm glad I did. No regrets at all! (...except for that awful DROIDDDDD sound, which I've managed to change )

The Nexus issues are starting

I have been reading the nexus forums, and I just have to LOL.
I seem to remember a ton of people saying "why buy the rezound when the 'superior' google nexus is right around the corner.
seems like they are having issues with screen banding, the phone is very slick and hard to hold. Many people are having battery life issues. The browser is hard to use, there is a volume issue that automatically turns off the volume. It gets hot while using. etc.
just goes to show that every phone has "issues", and you have to pick your poison.
im SO GLAD to be with you guys and on the rezound and when we get ICS the nexus people will be jumping ship
Thats wht they get. That phone is too big for me anyway. I got the rezound soon after release after waiting for months. Like u said pick your poison. The only issue ive had was for some reason the phone decided not to boot up n i hd to do a factory reset. But its bn ok e er since besides the usual htc incredible glitches which i am used to. The size is borderline too big for me but im loving this phone. Cant wait for ICS upgrade

I would have gotten the nexus anyway, but I have a rezound now because I just couldn't justify spending ~$300 for a nexus on contract when I could get the Rezound for free with amazon's deal.
So far I'm happy with the Rezound, although I wish the battery was better. I'm used to my Galaxy S lasting almost 2 days.
You do realize that these issues are related to the gsm device and may not be problems on the cdma/lte version since it's different hardware.

I may have been dreaming as I was surfing the net half asleep last night right before bed, but anyway...I read that the Nexus Volume bug has been acknowledged by Google/Samsung and it is software related not hardware, an update to fix the problem will be released soon. That's the Good thing about Nexus phones, as soon as their is a problem it gets resolved fast.
Btw the volume bug is only on GSM phones in the UK using 900mhz band or something like that. Wouldn't affect Verizon CDMA version.

Exactly my point. This is a "ha ha" post to the people who said the rezound was a pointless buy with the nexus coming out.
Basicly saying every aspect of the nexus was better than the rezound. And now it seems as the playing field has been leveled.
I will have no problem returning the rezound for the nexus nothing aganist this device it feels well built and a decent phone. i do not like sense and a little unsure about how the rooting process goes for htc.

You do know that the Verizon Nexus is going to be bloated as well right? I wouldn't be surprised if they forced Google to lock the bootloader too. It's pretty easy to root HTC phones once S-Off has been achieved. S-off has been achieved apparently, now we're just waiting for proof.
I am on the fence with what to do. The rezound has surprised me and is better than I thought it would be. Will have to see the nexus first. It will probably have better dev support due to the gsm version. And official ROM updates should be more timely than HTC is.

Needing some phone suggestions

I will be upgrading to a new phone soon since it does not appear that we will ever get ICS on the thunderbolt. I am also switching because I do not like the way htc is handling things and I really hate the sense interface because of the bloat. What I am looking for is a phone made by Google instead thats the latest and the greatest and has a good chance of getting alot of good rom options. From what I hear the phones made by Google get better rom support and get updates for a much longer time. Is this true?

Apparently, even though the ROM is showing 1x, people are seeing 3G speeds. Some have even posted screenshots of these speeds to prove it. Like the others said, you can debloat the ROMs including the stock Sense ROMs, just as long as the stock ROM is rooted. If you want the 4G speeds from an ICS ROM, we have within 13 days until we receive ICS, so long as HTC/Verizon are not late (which they are kind of famous for).

We don't. But for most of us it doesn't matter. I don't see any good phones worth upgrading to. I find disturbing problems with the current new phones in the other forums. Other new phones dont seem appealing. Why upgrade to something that's broke when I'm perfectly fine with what I have? While new phones have issues, I have 0 issues. Makes sense. I'll gladly wait for ICS. I'm not upgrading until something actually works since I will be paying full retail to keep my unlimited data. Plus I know around the holidays there will be some pretty sweet phones coming out so it will be worth the wait IMO.

Well, it started with the many replacements of the tbolt, then HTC's hard stance against updating their tablets kinda pushed me over the edge, then they updated the flyer/view to broken software and they wont even fix it. Now the Rezound is having touchscreen issues. So I'm just tired of dealing with the problems and the lack of OEM support after purchase. I appreciate the Dev community for the zound, but sammy seems to be stronger in that dept. So I think I am going to give them a shot. I won't touch Moto with a ten foot pole. It may be a bad move, but I'm willing to take that risk after all the issues I have had recently with HTC. So for me, from here on out, it's going to be Nexus, or Samsung.
Samsung is worse.
I love my Rez and I still think of it as probably one of the, if not the most undervalued android phone released to date, but I don't see myself going for yet another carrier exclusive device after this. Of course, reviews might be so great for the DNA that I could change my mind but so far I am not that impressed.
Having said that however, the lack of a LTE capable Nexus 4 kinda limits the options for those looking to upgrade atm and I really cant see myself with a Galaxy S device. Wish Sony would be given a chance at penetrating the US market, they seem to strike a fair balance between corporate dev support, hardware and software quality.
I'll be getting this. The hardware and build quality will be top notch, it can be unlocked through HTCs dev website and be able to load cm. It was between this and the note but son, I am dissapoint at it having the older gen exynos and 720p screen on a 5.5 inch screen.
no, my next phone will be honor 2 or note 2
battery is important factor to me now

But I will be more careful than usual with this purchase. I'm currently so broke I can't afford the down payment on a grilled cheese sandwich. But this phone is a priority, and I owe it to the BAMF community. So I've been saving my pennies and will be selling some stuff to raise some funds.

samsungs radios and signal are 10x worse.
in my house, my gs3 gets about 6kbps download on 3g.
my rezound, when its not pulling 4g in my house (which the nexus and GS3 CAN'T), pulls atleast half a meg to a meg per second. doing anything on the gs3 on 3g is terrible, and ridiculously slow. fb app won't even load. rezound loads it no problem. hell, i even tethered 3 tablets to my rezound last night and while we were all browsing at the same time, ti was STILl faster than my gs3
i don't think i'd buy antoher samsung phone ever again, and i really want the DNA...dunno if i wanna fork out 600 bones for it tohugh

The screen is what keeps me from upgrading.
What more can be done that already hasn't been done? It's not dead just hit a stopping point for what can be done. The rezound has a vast library of great roms to run. We all have seen this with countless phones in the past Luke the dinc, original droid and so on. It's not the phone is useless just people likes to have the latest and greatest that's out there. I came from the bolt and to compare the development of the bolt to the rezound and it blows the bolt away.

I see it slowing down, but not dying. All of Android development is dying off until the release of KLP though.
I'm thinking you're going to see this more and more as devs are more likely to want the newest phones. The Eris had good development for the full two years I had it but, from what I could tell, it was pretty easy to get stuff running on it. New phones seem to be a little more difficult and eventually, development hits a wall. I'm hoping things pick up again in May after KLP is released.
Sometimes you have to be smarter than your smartphone.
It's now called the RIPzound. J/k! Not dead, just slower which is normal.
Still here I have the one pre ordered though, but I'll be keeping my Rezound as a wifi only device. Or maybe my music only always in the car device

I'll still be around for a good while, though I've been inactive on the Rezound portion of XDA. I'll probably learn some necromancy and do themes if things do get too slow. It's been relatively good development, a few hiccups but fared well all in all imho. I expect it to rock some KLP someday, too good a device not to.

I'll be here for a while as well. The only way I would leave is if I came up on some good money to upgrade and there was something worth upgrading to. I just love my Rezound too much to switch to another device.
I've had it since release day; still immaculate. Although, I've been running CounterShrike since December...maybe I should hop onto the JB bandwagon.

When is your contract up if you have one? I'd wait until KLP comes out and see what devices are running in q4 this year
