i have been searching these forums for the past few days and have come up dry.. i have an htc rezound and I want the OTA BUT i have perm rooted it and removed most (if not all) the bloat... how do i go about rebloat and relocking my phone? i have tried using cleantool and it keeps waiting for the phone or it just fails all over itself repeatedly
edit: i have it set to charge only, sync is off and closed, and it is in fastboot mode. I have also tried something I found on here which seems like it is very similar to cleantools with less functionality and it just says <waiting for device> indefinitely

There are a few different ways to do it. Easiest way I did it to make it foolproof, is flash stock recovery if your on a custom recovery and relock phone and run the RUU. It will put you back to stock and you can just download the OTA and update it, then Unlock and flash Amon Ra recovery and from the developer menu install SU and superuser to reroot.
If you need more instructions , just ask otherwise to me that was the easiest way.
P.S. Just be aware the internal SD card gets wiped after you unlock again so move anything off the internal SD to the external SD that you want to save prior to unlocking again.
I didnt take the ota, I used cons ota rom.. this was my steps for that
1) download rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467329
2) boot into recovery, flash rom....
here you can go two ways, if you dont want the new baseband, it will flash the ph98img and not do anything, if you want the new radios I will tell you how I did it, then tell you where you need to start if you wont want them.
3)perform nandroid
4)via adb (thing you used to unlock originally) fastboot oem lock YOU ARE NOW LOCKED.
5)boot into hboot it will flash the ph98img
6) Unlock bootloader (find the email with the unlock.bin code and follow those instructions)
7)Reboot phone
8)connect to pc, charge only usb debugging enabled
9)run one click root
Proceed with this if you get the mainver error ONLY otherwise if having wifi issues, proceed to step 13
10) after rooted follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467099 NOTE, op in the thread supplied his miscnew.img USE IT!
11)Read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459347&highlight=mainver it will explain how to get the ph98s to work.
11a) do the ph98 file thing to the ph98 img in amon ra to get it to flash in bootloader
12) after amon ra is restored, perform restore nandroid.
If wifi is not working, even if you dont have mainver issues do step 13
13) If having wifi issues as in not working go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467793 and follow instructions EXACTLY!!!
Now you should be running new radios, hb2.11, the 2.6 kernel etc.
You will have to follow the post in step 11 to get any ph to work from now on.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE, BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN OR ABDUCTED BY ALIENS BY FOLLOWING THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS.
im having some trouble getting into recovery because clockworkmod says it does not have an officially supported recovery... how do i manually install one?
Assuming you installed a recovery, just boot to Hboot. Pull the battery, then hold the power button and volume down button. Once in Hboot you can choose Recovery.

To flash a recovery do the above steps to get into hboot (power down, pull battery, hold volume down and power buttons) and once you are in hboot, choose fastboot. Then connect to your pc and in the pc cmd prompt type:
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img (name of stock recovery you need to download, trying to find a link for you...)
That will put the stock recovery on the phone, then you can run RUU to get the rest back to stock and you can then accept the OTA.

got it! OTA and everything.. debating on rerooting for a bit thanks a lot everyone! +rep
All you have to do to reroot now is flash Amon Ra and then install su from within that. So it's super easy at this point.
su seems to have remained installed.... no root but su is definitely still installed! the only reason i am going to wait on rerooting is so i can learn more about it before i flash or anything
Yeah, it will show up in your apps but it doesn't work properly until you reinstall. I thought I had remained rooted but when I went to use Titanium Backup it couldn't get root access, then after I reinstalled su it worked fine.
But yeah, if you don't need it yet don't worry about it. The only good reason to do it is to use TiBU to save all your settings and if you have Amon Ra you can make a nandroid of your phone so that if something happens you have a backup image of everything and can restore it very easily via Amon Ra. You can still stay on stock ROM etc... the only thing you would need to flash is the Amon Ra recovery.
ya i see what you mean... I also want to get rid of this unbelievable amount of bloat... geez their are a ton of useless verizon apps never mind the stupid games
hi all
Forgot to charge my EVO 3D (CDMA) and battery completely drained. Even after using another fully charged battery my phone goes to bootloop - just shows the HTC logo and reboots again and again. Here is what I have:
hboot : 1.5 (S-ON)
radio : 1.06.00.1216
ota : 2_17.651_5
(I am using this phone in India activated on Reliance)
As the phone doesn't boot I can't access it thru adb to give command 'adb reboot bootloader'
I can get bootloader by pressing vol_down+power
When I run the 2_17.651_5 RUU (exe) from my computer while phone is on fastboot, it completes successfully without errors. But still on reboot it just stays at the htc screen and reboots (guess it's becoz stock kernel not getting flashed as the phone is s-on)
kindly help to get back my phone boot again
thanks and regards

Don't listen to the previous guy. Try using fastboot OEM lock and then ruuing. Or, try getting freezas stock kernel and extracting the boot.IMG and flashing it thru fastboot. Or, you could use fastboot flash recover recovery.IMG to get twrp or clockworkmod and do a superwipe and try flashing a new Rom. There are tons of options if you still have fastboot.

Thanx for responding. As I mentioned earlier,I have already relocked and RUU'd the exe file, but though it runs without errors doesn't solve problem. Again as it is s-on doesn't permit to flash boot.img. Though I am able to flash twrp recovery, not able to get into recovery from fastboot. Thanks again, really appreciate your help.

You don't need to relock once you unlock the HTC way. Just unlock the phone then flash via fastboot the boot.img and then ruu if you want.

thanks. extracted boot.img from freeza's kernel and flashed from fastboot after unlocking. But still doesnt solve problem. Can you give me a link for boot.img
Pleassssssse HELP !!!!!!
I have the exactly the same problem, a full reboot result in boot loop, and can not fix it by now.
I guest the phone is rooted before OTA, so OTA can not flash kernel successfully because the wrong signature, and the phone will not boot because the wrong kernel.
I have tried ruu, fastboot boot recovery.img and etc, all failed.
The key point is that, the phone is rooted and you tried OTA. HTC OTA must have a stupid bug, it can not recovery from a partial update, or automatically roll back becasuse of the partial update, dem!
Please have a look at the guide/flashing notes in my signature. If u r unlocked u are likely not entering recovery correctly.
If u are trying to flash the Ruu u have to be locked or relocked. If u cant boot to android, run the xhausx's full Ruu zip from bootloader.

1) flashed RUU (exe) after relocking - flash completed without errors
2) ran xhausx's full RUU zip (PG86IMG_2.17.651.5.zip) from bootloader (could get into bootloader by pressing volum_up + power button. adb cannot connect to phone (as phone does not boot), to run 'adb rebooot bootloader')
But still doesn't solve problem and phone keeps rebooting, apparently kernel has not flashed properly.

You need to use the RUU 2.17 exe after you relock your phone... Then flash a copy of CWM or TWRP on it..
Then adb
fastboot boot recovery.img
Wipe and flash whatever you want
Just noticed u said India & carrier is reliance. Why would u be using a Sprint USA CDMA Ruu? Shouldn't u be using a GSM RUU version?

Yeah , as I mentioned earlier, I also tried using the RUU 2.17 exe after relocking (RUU completed successfully without errors) , and flashed twrp recovery from fastboot . But still it's a no go.
(Again would like to repeat that I can't boot into bootloader from adb - adb cannot connect as phone doesn't android boot. I get into fastboot by pressing vol_down + power)
thanks all for your responses and help, hope you all will continue guiding me till I get this done.

Have you tried to just run the RUU like you said boot turn debug on .... Then go to hboot flash your recovery...
Then fastboot boot recovery.img.
This should work I have unrooted my phone 3 times already in the past month Trial and Error on my part adb always found my phone...
I am tryin to figure out what is going wrong on the last part with TWRP...
Since you said after you do that it was a no go? What happend ? Adb should still be working since you just flashed the recovery...
Anyways I hope you get it solved man I am tryin to figure this problem out.
Do you have a rom already ready to be flashed on your SD card?
Problem is, since i’m not able to android boot I can't reboot bootloader from adb, as I can't connect adb without the phone normal booting. When I boot it just stays at the HTC white screen.
I have flashed twrp recovery from fastboot, but when I give command 'fastboot boot <twrpxxxxx>.img it just boots back to the HTC splash screen
You can go back to complete stock if you rename the RUU file PG86IMG.zip and load onto the root of sd card. Get into bootloader with [power+volume down] and it will automatically detect and load the zip file. This can only be done if you are relocked. I did this in order to get the latest update. After you get back to stock you can unlock and root again.

As I mentioned in earlier post, have tried flashing PG86IMG.zip from bootloader, but still phone doesn't boot properly and is in a bootloop.
You've used the following file and done these exact steps and allowed the phone to boot to full stock OS? (assuming 2.17.651.5 is correct version)
OPTION 2 - RUU.zip info:
I prefer the .exe version but xHausx’s “FULL” PG86IMG_2.17.651.5.zip may work for you (must be renamed PG86IMG.zip). Make sure you have plenty of battery/charge left!
- (XDA) Xhausx full PG86IMG.zip RUU images (651.5 zips)

USE ONLY FOR EMERGENCY PURPOSES. THIS OVERWRITES EVERYTHING!!!!
**THIS WILL RETURN YOU TO FRESH OUT OF THE BOX**
You will not need any special drivers loaded, etc...
1.Download the stock ROM ZIP image from here: and rename it "PG86IMG.zip"
2.Copy it to SD Card
3.Reboot phone into hboot mode by holding volume down and then press power.
Keep volume down held until you boot into hboot mode.
4.In hboot mode the phone will scan the SD card with the image. Once it finds it will ask you if you want to update. Press "Power" to update.
5.Wait.... For a while. When it gets to "system" it will loop a few times. Its quite nerve wracking actually but after about 5 or 6 times it will complete.
6.Once the entire flash is complete it will prompt you to "press power to reboot." Press power and your phone will reboot to 100% stock ROM.

Hey guys. Recently I installed a new rom all went well and I rebooted for the second time after the set up. Now my phone just shows the white hero on black background. Vibrates once or twice and then just stays there.. the sd card is completely inaccessible. I can get to fastboot and have the following info there:
Hero cvt ship s-on
HBoot-1.76.007 (hero1000)
Mirop-010f
Touchpanel-syn0104
Radio-6.35.17.03

I can boot to recovery:
CWM - based recovery v5.0.2.8
In recovery nothing works and the phone will try to boot if u don't move up and down
It won't mount the ad card for external storage, it won't wipe or do anything related to the sd.
When I connect to the pc I can hear windows doing the "ding" but nothing pops up and the device doesn't show.
Any help would be appreciated.
Rip out your SD from your phone, plug it into your PC and put a ROM on it, flash it, if you cant wipe or anything flash it without wiping, if it works then do the wipe and reflash. I would recommend you to use CM7 stock unmodded. If that doesnt work get the RUU for your device and flash it ...
Thanx but it doesn't work. When I go to fastboot it says "No image or wrong image".
I can not extract the .IMG from a RUU as the pc doesnt detect the phone.
Fastboot probably doesnt work since your phone is S-ON, you need to S-OFF it to flash custom .img's. When your phone goes to HERO on boot, in left top corner does it show FASTBOOT USB ?
Nope it doesn't. Shouldn't my phone be S-Off when its rooted?
No, when it's rooted that just allows you to use flash_image to flash recovery to recovery partition. S-OFF is needed to flash .img's to partitions directly. If you want to flash an image then you need S-OFF. If you want to flash a .zip via CMW you dont need S-OFF
OK so firstly how do I get it to S-Off and secondly how do I get a Img that I can flash?
To get S-OFF go to http://www.htcdev.com/ or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1471460
I HAVE NOT TESTED EITHER, SINCE I DONT USE IT, YOU ARE FLASHING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. Just to say . If this goes wrong you can just use your phone to wipe your ass
Lol Thanx man! As it is, its pretty damn useless so anything is worth a try!
If you manage to S-OFF i think it will be solvable
I hope so, although its still a struggle to do.
Ok i am stuck in boot loop. I will explain what i did.
I was on original ICS update from htc HBOOT-1.53.0007 and i decide to try out custom ROM
I followed this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535987
i unlock my device HTCDEV.com way i select evo 3d emea
I done this successfully and then i flash Clockworkmod recovery by clockworkmod.
Done this successfully!
Ok flashing time!
Downloaded and flash this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991150
I did wipe every thing there is to wipe in recovery
Flashed successfully!
and then reboot
On screen there was Venom logo i was waiting for 15 min, nothing happened, take out battery, power on again waiting still nothing happened!!
Flashed again the same rom, this time with no wiping!
Same thing stuck with Venom logo.
Ok. lets get diferent ROM

Same thing, stuck with boot logo!
And then i get so called stock rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318942
this zip had boot.img inside
so when i flashed rom i go to bootloader and flash boot.img with fastboot flash boot boot.img that was successfully so i reboot device
this time the phone start to bootloop it gets to htc logo and then restart!
That's it now i don't know what to do. Don't know what guide/tutorial should i follow so i am posting here in hope to get some help
So again someone please help!!!
I would suggest downgrading to hboot 1.49.0007 (and then use revolutionary for s-off). With that you shouldn't have any problems flashing ROMs. I am currently using the 1.49.0007 hboot and I haven't got a single issue flashing Roms
Sent from my Evo 3D GSM
I suggest 1.49.0007. Before downgrade from 1.53.0007 i had boot loop issue too.
Yeah easier said than done!
Every tutorial i checked want me to download something, but i can't every thing is out dated s**t
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743466
have you tried this?
i read it and i get so confused plus that wire trick it scares me! The whole tutorial is scary, so man methods
i think i will have to give it a try.
Unfortunately the wire trick is your only option of downgrading hboot. It isn't that difficult actually. Just make sure you follow the instructions to the letter
did i mention that i can not get in to system as a am stuck with booting up?!
ControlBear.exe just say press enter to exit so i am guessing that the phone need to be turned on for ControlBear.exe to work?!?
Rebooting from bootloader
Waiting...
...Waiting
Detecting...Starting up......
Connecting to device...
Testing ADB connection
Press ENTER to exit.....
I am starting to think that the best way to fix my phone would be the so called Hammer_way! They say it's one hit fix
Here is step by step instructions http: //unlimited.io/juopunutbear.htm
4. Turn ON USB Debugging on your device (Settings > Developer Options)
5. Verify fast boot is turned OFF (Usually found under Power Settings)
6. Connect your device and set to "Charge Only"

You have to manually flash boot.img via fastboot.
i made it!! i managed to install stock original ICS RUU from OTA and i successfully did S-OFF!! Yuuuhuu
Now what? i am stil on HBOOT 1-53.777
I have the same problem before i find a good Rom for 1.53.0007. And i cant downgrade to 1.49.0007...
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906172
why would i want 1.49.0007?
My phone is now working normally with venom viper ROM, on HBOOT 1-53.777 S-OFF
If you satisfied with venom viper ROM then you dont need downgrade. But with 1.49.0007 you can flash more ROMs.
I was trying to get my HTC Amaze Unbranded to go from GB to ICS following the tutorials on these forums. I was using Hasoon2000 toolkit to root my phone. I think I flashed 4EXT and from there install the superzu thing. After that I tried to s off with control bear. It failed. Now when I turn on my phone, the htc logo appears for a second then the screen turns black. After a few seconds the cameras led flash blinks and the phone reboots again. This process keeps repeating. I can access the bootloader menu where it says fastboot, bootloader etc.
Is my phone bricked? Can I do something to fix it? Any help please
YOU DO NOT MAKE THE RIGHT INSTRUCTIONS
1.) Make sure you have required HTC drivers installed
2.) Download Hasoon's All-In-One Toolkit
3.) Unlock your bootloader through htcdev.com (hasoon's toolkit can help)
4.) Now perform S-Off. You have to be on Stock Ruu to perform S-OFF, so best to do it now while you are still on stock
5.) Once you successfully S-OFF your device, you will then need to SuperCID your device
6.) When your device is S-Off and has SuperCID, you can then download this Amaze_ICS_RUU ..Rename the RUU to PH85IMG.zip and place it on the root of your EXTERNAL SDcard. Once this file is on the SDcard, do a battery pull, then turn the device back on while holding down the VOLUME DOWN button. it will prompt you to install, select yes and YAY, you will now be on ICS.
7.) Take the PH85IMG of the RUU off of your SDcard, and then put this PH85IMG of HBOOT on to the SDcard. Repeat the same instructions as step 6 to flash this IMG.
8.) Congratulations, you now have stock ICS. If you would like to flash custom ICS or JB roms, continue with steps 9 & 10
9.) Finally, Use Hasoon's toolkit to, Flash 4EXT Recovery AND
10.) Then to flash supersu.zip to gain root (also done using hasoons toolkit)
YOU MUST FIRST Unlock your bootloader

I forgot to mention my bootloader is unlocked. I unlocked it using htcdev.com. Its unlocked but the phone keeps turning on with a vibration, the htc logo appears for a second, then it turns off. After 7 seconds my cameras flash blinks and the whole process constantly repeats itself. I really need help. Before I could perform the wire trick, this problem occurred.
