Can't root my Samsung Galaxy Appeal SGH-i827 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Would really like to know how to root my Samsung Galaxy Appeal SGH-i827.
The following guide does not work
redigua.
com/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-
appeal.html
Nor does Universal Gingerbread Root & Unroot 2.3.3 -> 2.3.7+
I have tried several other that require command inputs via the command prompt on my PC which for some reason do not work either.
This is driving my absolutely nuts.
Any help would be appreciated
P.S bare in mind i have downloaded and tried nearly 20 root packages and all returned this error
-- Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed

You've probably googled and landed here:

3 comments look promising (but maybe they're faked somehow)
Video shows only link.
Link shows only download button
Download button requires selecting offer
Offer requires providing email.
I stopped at that point.... sounds like a scam.
If you're desperate you might leave a secondary email (that you set up for spam) and see if there's anything there.
Please report back any progress.

Yup it's fake. if there was a root package for the i827 then i'm sure it would downloadable elswhere and most likely on this site or one similar to it. probably a generic rooting tool that does'nt work or is outdated.

[Q] Installation Aborted - may be self inflicted but...

I'm an ol' windows geek and an Android noob. I rooted my Evo 3D and had a few bumps during the root process (still during beta) and got S-off and able to run all my rooted apps no errors - but, every time I try to apply any zip (using CRM v4.0.1.5 ), I now get:
Installing: /sdcard/download/zipnamehere.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
The first time I saw it was when I was trying to add SU to my phone -but - SU was on there and I was able to update it so I ignored the error.
Now, I'm trying to apply radios, etc and none will work.
I have tried downloading to Win7 x64 workstation, XP netbook and copying - have tried downloading directly - have tried praying and downloading - all (so far) to no avail
I was able to apply the latest deodexed ROM no problem (THANK YOU!) but i'm stuck and since i'm in the short-stack near-side of the bell-curve, I'm hoping maybe someone smarter than I can give me some things to check an' try...
As always, I'm very grateful for all the time and assistance!
(yes, i'm selecting zip, yes, i've verified checksum)
Cheers!
Try using TWRP recovery from TeamWin. I think the clockwork recovery is a port and may have some bugs. I believe most of the bugs have been worked out in TWRP. Worth a try anyway. It's a bit different than CW but I think as you get used to it you may like it better. I advise to never use Rom Manager app and flash everything manually from recovery anyway.

TWRP, eh? - It's something new to try tonight... I'll post back either way once I've got the kids to sleep and have a moment to focus
Many thanks for the quick reply and the information!
Cheers!
Okay - one more piece of the puzzle: installed TWRP and told it to doa signature verification... the md5 check is fine but even so, it's telling me the signature check is failing - for the sake of argument - if i assume the file is good, what would cause my phone to be unable to correctly verify file signatures?
and so far - very impressed with TWRP - thanks for pointing me in a proper direction!

LG LGL75C (Optimus Zip)

Hello everyone.
Forward
Originally, I was going to flash my Droid X2's MEID to my LG OpZip's MEID and use the X2, but found out when I got home, it had to be unactivated, and I was already activated, so that plan went down the drain. I've spent the last, oh, 2 or 3 days trying to root, install a custom rom, and expand my internal storage to no avail. After doing alot of research on the issue in regards to rooting it, I found (on another site I think) that my sw version is not the same as the other OpZip's that have been rooted, and to all of my research, I cannot seem to find anything that matches my model and sw version.
Phone Information
Phone: LG Optimus Zip
Model: LGL75C
SW Version: LGL75CV1
Android Version: 2.3.4
Provider: Straight Talk (Verizon towers)
Things I've Tried
Super One Click
ADB
LG Optimus Zip One Click (different sw version)
Alright, now for the part I need assistance with... Does anyone know a root method for this phone? Are there any custom ROM's that are compatible, or am I overthinking it, and should assume most are compatible?
I look forward to any and all responses, and thanks in advance.

I'll second that bump. The model of this phone is VS700 - But many report that root attempts are unsuccessful because of the SW version.
Interestingly enough, when trying to use LG update software on my PC, it says the LGL75CV1 is indeed on the supported device list for updates, however when the LG software tries to read the SW Version from my phone, it says ERROR. I call up LG, they say all updates should be done through Tracphone.
Is there something different about the file system? are developers somehow locked out of this? Any update would be great. The phone has potential, alot of potential. Lets get it rooted guys!
bump
a friend of mine has this phone with this sw version (lgl75cv1) and is chomping at the bit for me to get it rooted for him. if anyone, anyone at all, has any info please speak up.
thanks guys
I was able to root this phone today easily using this thread referred by a user at another forum.
I can't post a link but the instructions are at androidforums under a thread called "Finally rooted M865c for Straight Talk"
It works fine for the LG Zip LGL75C 2.3.4
It was a very simple process. I am now looking for a way to install a clockworkmod recovery on the phone to make a backup. Anyone have any insight on how to install the correct CWM please advise.
LGL75c Optimus Zip
Everywhere i look it says this phone cannot be rooted because it has a locked bootloader. I even went as far as paying root android for the software which they assured me would root this phone. It failed miserably.
I am looking for anything that will help me root this phone as I want to tether the 3g to my nexus 7 tablet, to have internet wherever I go with my tablet.
How to root LGL75C
I just managed to root my LGL75C (provided by Straight Talk).
Download 2 files:
Poot .apk: sharesend. com/qe9jl6ij
Ministroll .apk: sharesend. com/8orgvw4r
EDIT: Since I'm a new user, this forums board won't let me link to the apk files. Sorry :\
Step 1:
Download the Poot-debug.apk and Minstro-ii.apk and place the 2 files in the root of Your SDCARD.
Or put both files somewhere on /sdcard and open the files via file manager/explorer.
Step 3:
Install both the Poot-debug.apk and ministro-ii.apk. (You will need to make sure that you have enabled "Unknown Sources" under the application settings menu of your phone before you will be able to install these apks.)
Step 4:
After both apks are installed open Poot. It will open up ministro-ii and download quite a few libraries that are necessary for the Poot to work. Once it has completed click the button that says, "Press here to poot", and hope for the best.
Step 5:
Pay attention the the messages displayed on the screen. Most messages should start with a
, but you should see a couple of [-].
As long as the only warning messages you receive are the following, you should have successfully rooted.
Code:
[-]current && current != last + 1: 0000ffff 0000ffff
[-]Haxx has run its coarse. Reboot the device to play again
A demon materialized while pooting. Error code: 64
You will receive these messages because Poot does not recognize the M865c kernel and is unable to clean things up without rebooting.
Again, the three warnings listed above are nothing to worry about.
Step 6:
Reboot your phone to save changes and allow the exploit to take effect.
Step 7:
Open Poot and click on the button that says Built-in rootcheck to verify that your phone is rooted. As long as Poot is able to find 'su,' and it will display its path along with a corresponding message stating success.
Step 8:
You'll probably want to download/install a Superuser app from the App Store/Google Play store, so you can give other apps su privs.

Help! I have NO experience with this stuff. I used this method, but after I pressed "Press here to poot" I go the messages "[-] didn't find symbols" and "A demon materialzed while pooting. Error code: 20 su binary was not written." Huh? I tried rebooting and then pressing "Build-in rootcheck," but the message I got back was:
Path is:
"/sbin:/vendor/bin:/system/sbin:/system/bin:/system/xbin"
no su was found in $PATH
Any idea what this means? I'm so clueless.

It should look like a lot of lines of code, some in different colors. Open Logcat, let it run in the background. Open the TR.APK and it will show up in logcat. Hit the menu button to copy the contents. Should be able to paste into an email. Been a while since I logcatted anything.

I think I did it right. I ran the catlog, ran the towelroot app, it rebooted, I opened the catlog, had all that text- I saved it, sent it to my dropbox, and then sent it along to geohot in an email with all the particulars of our phone.

Sorta like cyanogenmod, don't asks for ETAs, just be patient it will come.
Do we have this on our Mega's:
Like the HTC and the newest Moto --- " /system is write protected. (system partition is locked)
Detected as Andr.Exploit.Ratc by some virus scanners. It is an Android exploit. Will not fix."
If we do then it is not good news. Since I'm not sure what the above means, I will be an optimist!:fingers-crossed:
*****************************************************
In case we get somewhere with this towelroot app, The other thing you have to do before or after running a successful root is go to chainfire's site and download the update supersu zip file. I did it on my laptop.
http://download.chainfire.eu/448/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r5.zip supersu has been updated in the playstore as of 6/18/14. This step is no longer necessary.
Since we can't flash zip files yet (no custom recovery due to locked bootloader), you need to unzip the file, go into the common folder and copy the superuser apk file. I know the date says 2008, but that is the latest apk.- v.1.99. The one in the play store is too old. ( It won't update the binary.) I removed my old supersu, and downloaded the apk thru my dropbox, installed it. (Just read we need to uninstall supersu Pro too) Update binary and then reinstall pro.
Once we have root with towelroot (I'm thinking positive here) you will need to open the supersu- v. 1.99 and update the binary. Then you should be good to go.
*********************************************************
I borrowed the following from Franzie3- thank you. Taken from the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784860
once you have completed the instructions and used Towelroot. Let's get us some SuperSu on it!!
6/16/14 For now please download the following zip located from chainfires site listed above- v.1.99 and extract the SuperSU.apk from the "Common" Folder in the ZIP and sideload the app. Credit to @Chainfire for SuperSU
- Once SuperSU is installed Open it.
- It will state that Samsung KNOX is detected and ask to disable it. The choice is yours, but I let it disable.
- Next you will need to update your binary. The choice are "Normal" or "TWRP/CWM". You MUST choose normal as TWRP and CWM require unlocked bootloaders which we do not have as of now.( this applies to us att mega owners too)
- Download Root Checker form the Play Store HERE
- Once you have verified you have root CONGRATS!!
According to Grarak- who works with kernels and understands all this stuff- He says our kernel, even though it is before June 2014, does not have the exploit that Towelroot uses to obtain root on our phone. So it will not work at all. We will have a long wait I think.
The playstore's supersu has now been updated, and now will update binaries just fine- for those lucky enough to have a phone that TR does work on. Which is a whole truckload of them....well maybe I exaggerate a little, but it does work on a lot of androids on 4.4.2. and some 4.4.3.
Just not ours I will still keep looking for any posts of info on our phone.
im keeping my fingers crossed that somebody obtains root for our i527 with kit kat
I have my fingers, toes, arms, and eyes crossed. Hopefully we'll get root soon.

There is always hope!!! A chinese group just released a jailbreak for iOS 7.1 which was stalled after apple patched the exploit for 7.0.6 that updated to 7.1 JB. Iphone users weren't expecting a JB until the new iOS8 was released with the new iphone in Sept. And that would have been 4-6 months wait.
So with geohot releasing TR for android, maybe he can cover all the bases for those phones that it doesn't work for. Patience grasshoppers.

My Mega is DOA. I was able to FULLY FLASH MY MEGA BACK to 4.2, only problem is, now my phone is a shiny paperweight that yells at me when I turn it on. It says, and I quote, (ahem) "SECURE FAIL: KERNEL

Thing is, I flashed it using only genuine Samsung firmware (and did it right by the way) and the kicker is I BOUGHT THIS FOR FULL PRICE OFF CONTRACT!

Smartisan Nut Pro Root access to modify build.prop

Hello,
I recently got an Smartisan Nut Pro (U2) and really love it. Unfortunate the seller put a modified rom unto it and changed the device name making it impossible to flash the device to the most recent version. When flashing i get an error: E3004: This package is for "odin" devices; this is a "Odin_haiwai".
I tried to change this but because i don't have root access i cannot. I tried editing the updater.script file in the update zip but got an error saying: E:failed to verify whole-file signature E:signature verification failed installation aborted
Tried KingOroot to root device but that failed as well..
In the current rom they removed system apps which make some features unusable. :crying:
Any idea would be much appreciated.
If there are questions please ask and i will answer asap.

Tesco Hudl 2... Is anyone still here?

Hi Interweb!
I was wondering just how many people were still "in the know" on the topic of rooting, unlocking bootloader and general Android development for the Tesco hudl2 [HTFA4B] tablet. Obviously with Tesco's little trick of shutting down the servers, two thirds of us were left with Kitkat, and having had enough of it, I decided to root. Everything went fine. I booted back into Android KitKat (stock) and then installed Xposed Framework. Presumably the installation failed, as upon rebooting, the tablet booted straight into stock recovery. I have been seeing this for two months now, having removed the battery several times, refitting it and trying to reinstall android with the ROM form this link:
hudl2_ota_rel.android-build.20150803.092218_to_rel.android-build.20150917.142239.zip | GEM-FLASH Firmware
firmware.gem-flash.com
Either way, I am now faced with a soft brick. Does anyone know how to fix? The exact text displayed in Stock Recovery is down below.
To be clear, I occasionally DO see the "powered by android" screen before booting into recovery, but not every time.
A possible solution would be if there is a fastboot mode I can access, I may can use Odin and flash a Custom ROM onto the tab. Or, alternatively, if anyone has, or knows someone who may have Tesco's key signature, that too would be useful in building a ROM.
I've had this tablet since I was 7 years old, and it's been part of my life for many years now. If anyone can help please do
Many Thanks.

Hey, just got pinged by XDA after a long time. It's all so sleek-looking now.
I'll cut to the chase—Unfortunately, I've got nothing to help with here. I'm a fan of the Hudl2 as well and still have it around as a backup ebook reader as the screen works reliably. It's running walking stock Lollipop and it occasionally throws up Play Services errors (which appears to be resolvable).
Following the dead download link on the MoDaCo forum post, I searched for stock ROMs and landed on the same Gem Flash site that you linked. Specifically, I found 3 results linked to the Hudl2. For the sake of future visitors, I've downloaded and attached all 3 of them to this post (in case it's locked, the password is "www.gem-flash.com").
I wouldn't get my hopes up, but it might be worth giving each a go. Honestly, I wouldn't even know where to begin with flashing but I think you're way ahead of me here.
Genuinely wishing you the best of luck, and I really hope it works out.

Thanks @Rickav . Presumably you saw my DM.
All three come out with:
Code:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:end of footer from /tmp/update.zip not 0xFFF (File exists)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
once adb sideloaded in stock recovery (all I have access to).
Is there any chance of you making a nandroid backup zip using the CWM fastboot custom recovery in "hudl2 root stuff.zip" on MoDaCo? I know it's asking a lot. @paulobrien might send me a system image and couple of OTA zips and other assorteds for a start which may help. Before I attempted Xposed I was trying to get Lollipop but the OTA server has been decommissioned (confirmed by Kirwan Lyster, head of hudl2 software), so if I can do that by other means that'd be great. Fist priority though: get it running. You can see by the video what is happening.
Many thanks,
Cessna
If can't do this, may need to try to unlock bootloader. Any ideas, also useful.
@Rickav I really appreciate your assistance, but going by this link:
New update Sept 15

It looks like my tablet is dead. What do you think of this?
Hi,
In case anyone is looking for clear instructions on how to overcome the problem after a factory reset of the Tesco Hudl 1 & 2 you will find them here (works for Hudl 2 as well). Use a date between 27 June 2019 and 26 June 2020 :
HUDL bricked after factory reset and how to fix it - Hey Munky!
I did a factory reset on my HUDL and bricked it. Here's a quick step-by-step guide on how to unbrick it after a factory reset.

Or the same with pictures but remember to use a date between 27 June 2019 and 26 June 2020 :
Rob's stuff - Hudl - Fix
Update 23 May 2023: This mechanism for recovery of a factory reset Hudl 1 no longer works. Due to the Tesco server at https://device.tesco.mobile.com/ no longer responding correctly to requests this technique no longer works and will fail after Step 18. As far as I know my Custom ROM is now the
rob.themayfamily.me.uk
(If this date solution ever fails then another option is to create a new user in the settings menu and reboot into it.)
Post if it works for you
I am going to try and update my hudl 2 to lollipop android 5. ADB sideload fails so i need to update from sdcard or from cache folder, just a case of where the cache folders are and how to add to them.
Hi @ushilives
Whatever you do, please don't do that! Doing so causes your device to become unbootable, and unrecoverable!!!
It will end up like mine did, and, trust me, you ain't getting it back, KitKat, Lollipop, or else.
Sorry to let you down, I just don't want to see another Hudl killed.
Regards,
Cessna
Did yours brick before or after you installed xposed?

When I rebooted after installing xposed. I also know people who bricked it from sideloading other builds in ADB, due to Tesco's locked bootloader having extra security measures.

Please do. Just check for me please, does it still boot? If yes, what have you attempted so far? Thanks
