Sometimes I want to get rid of the keyboard so I can see more of the text message or fill out a large form.
Anybody know how to turn it off and on?
Thanks,
Rob
Hit the back arrow once to get rid of keyboard and tap the text field to bring it back. Solved thread closed

Hey -
Since we have a built in full qwerty keyboard on the Titan, I hardly ever need to use my on screen keyboard...but it keeps popping up when I click on text boxes, etc.
I only want it to show up when I click on the keyboard icon in the middle of the bottom bar.
How do I stop the input device from showing by default? it is so annoying.

Click to collapse
I have found that the best way to get rid of it is to hit the keyboard icon at the bottom middle and then start typing and it won't pop up as a default next time.
Every time I have to enter text, for say a text message, and I have my phone vertical, the upper left letters are blocked by the arrow that sits below the input field (the thing you use to select and copy text). Is there a way to turn that off? It makes using Swype a pain.
For clarification, I am referring to when you open a text field (text message, tweet, status update, etc) in vertical mode, below the blinking cursor is a pointer. It blocks the Q and W on my phone. Any ideas?
wait a few seconds for it to go away?

It doesn't go away until I push another key.
it goes away if i sit there for a second
i use swiftkey x beta and it doesnt cover up any of the keyboard
I might have to try that one. Swype has me kinda spoiled, though.
Latest Swype version has it. Kinda annoying.
Just realized what you guys are talking about...I know late right. Smart keyboard has a transparent arrow with an outline, no text blockage.

When writing a text message the 'Write message' area takes up the whole screen so you cannot see older text messages above the input area. Does anybody know how to reduce the size of the input area?
I have come from blackberry and find this one little niggle thats really quite annoying, not being able to see the text i am replying to whilst typing
Thanks
You minimize the keyboard by the button on the bottom-left. Then you can read messages again, and when you want to write, just tap input area again.
Hope this helps
or buy a phone with a bigger screen ;-)
But tje best thing to do is minimize the keyboard
It is because the send button appear when you enter the message, the button enlarged the input box. This is stupid design, so i use another SMS apps.
Good day,
I know that when you enter the stock messaging and try to read a thread, you simply read all the SMS on that thread. The problem is that when i click on a thread the keyboard automatically pops up
Even when accessing the new sms message from lock screen. After swiping, i know that new message shall be opened for you to read but in this case the keyboard too pop up.
It gets annoying to keep pressing the back key or hide keyboard. I cant seem to find the correct settings to prevent the keyboard from popping out.
Can anyone point me on the right direction?
Using pure stock ICS (DXLP7)
Thanks
Up. Anyone have an idea how to solve this?
Still cant figure out how to stop it
As the title says.
Scenario: A text message comes in, I pull down the menu and hit the name of the sender, and it takes me into the default messaging app to read my text. But as well as doing this, it automatically opens my keyboard ready to type a reply.
Have I missed something here??? I'm using Perfect Keyboard Pro, and wish to continue to do so.
It only does this on a new message, if I open a read message the keyboard wont open unless i press the reply button.
I hope its just a wee setting i've stoopidly missed, but any help is appreciated
AFAIK, this is the standard behaviour. When you receive a new sms, and go to read it, the keyboard pops out (to type the reply). When you go to see received sms, the keyboard pops out only if you tap on the text box at the bottom.
This for any keyboard you'd use.
Damn... wish there was a way to turn that off. .. och well...
