That's not how it works. You need an entirely NEW bootloader. The current one is not meant to boot the linux kernel, and you also need drivers for everything for the kernel. That we don't have. So it's very difficult but somewhat possible if worked on hard enough by the right people for a very, very, VERY, long time. So chances of it happening are slim to none

I don't think it will "die", unless you smash it against a wall or something. What benefit may an half assed Android port bring to a device like this? Look at the N9, it was cracked open but Android still sucks on it nowadays. At least WP runs great on single core devices, Android on the other hand performs quite poorly on those.

I remember that developers started a porting of a new bootloader for this Phone, the lk bootloader that's compatible with the android kernel
Now my question is,where are those developers and this project?

I saw that. No idea if they are, but it didn't boot. All they got working was fastboot.

Windows7 OS ??

Can we expect to see a Windows 7 ROM for the hero ? or does it not work like that ?????
Seeing as though you have nearly 200 posts, you should know that this should have gone in GENERAL or QnA. Please remember this for next time.
As for Windows Phone on an Android handset,... Never,... as it is not open source. I'm pretty sure that is the only answer you will get.
my bad,, sorry about that,, thanks for the answer...
Would be cool though :b

Well you got almost 1000 posts and still you say "never"....no such thing at XDA.
I remember ppl saying that Android would "never" be ported to WM phones...guess what!
only snapdragons are supported currently, xda is amazing but they can't turn an armv6 into an armv7 with a finger snap
ya know, i get the fact that winmo has been completely redesigned etc. but .. ionno , if idd have the option to choose betwen android and winmo i would totally stick with android ^_^

the only way it could be done is via virtual machine i *BELEIVE*. Youll need a powerful ass phone though to manage it, any phone in existance couldnt run it properly via vm due to requirements of additional power for virtualisation.
come to think of it, i dont know if any phone processor suports virtualisation...
Until VM Ware for mobiles gets released? I should Google that again, haven't seen any updates in a while.

Yes well android is open source and can be modified. And even then, this was only done on a WinMo device very similar to an android one.
You can look at it by comparing Macs with PCs. Can you install windows on Macs? No! Why? Because Apple won't make hardware property drivers for Windows. The same here with Android and Winmo7. When HTC will release new phone with Winmo7 devs on xda will be able to port it to similar device with similar hardware, so drivers are more or less compatible. So I agree with ddotpatel that Hero won't have running Winmo7.
On another hand technically it is possible by using reverse engineering, but that is the hell of the work so I don't think someone can do that.
... or HTC have full stock of Hero hardware which they can't sell so to reduce costs they decide to design new model with Hero hardware running Winmo7. I personally think Hero could handle Winmo7 without problems.

winmo7 has strict hardware requirements, MS would never allow it to be run on a low end phone like Hero.

Yeah, well, both of you did not get the point. I'm not talking about new macs who come now pre-installed with windows. I was talking about old times back when macs where only available with iOS and it was kinda cold war between macs and pcs.

[Q] ANY Android ROM for Nokia Lumia 610

Hi, I'm desperately looking for any Android ROM - Cyanogenmod, MIUI, any other - doesn't matter, I just want the Android OS on my Lumia 610...Is there any option for me? Any ROM that maybe is somewhat close to my phone and is allright to install..?
Any options at all? Thank you everyone in advance...

But it runs on hardware that is fairly common to android phones. What steps would need to be taken to get to a point where we could attempt flashing a rom from a phone with similar specs?
It would be a lot easier though to just buy a $150 android phone and be done with it. ICS or jelly bean wouldn't run too well with the 256mb ram, and the 8gb (6gb) fixed storage is pretty limiting no matter what OS you are running.
dude this is some serious development stuff. there is no step by step guide or anything.
impossible, if not, it takes a LOT of development

impossible, you dont have the drivers for the hardware.
Not impossible look at the htc hd2 it runs ANDROID and its a windows phone so it's possible but i don't think the 610 has this kind of development.

Yes, a lot of devs (some of them probably the best in xda) spent hours, days, months on that
try buying a linux/maemo os phone.. like n900,, n9,, can be used for dual booting,,, even htc ,, ive heard,, has a phone which can triple boot....
ROM from Nokia?
Nokia was developing Android for Lumia in secret from Elop. They were to enable installing them in 2014 when the deal with MS was ending. Does anyone have these ROMs?

Enough is Enough!!
After seeing all the weird replies and pleas,I'd actually like to answer it in a more complete manner.....
It doesn't matter the Windows phones have similar hardware like Android devices,it's mainly about the vast difference in the OS's that achieving such a feat is close to impossible........You will have to work from ground up,Starting with
1.Creating the bootloader that supports Android
2.Creating the kernel from scratch
3.Creating drivers for everything like the touch, ril etc and make sure they are compatible with your kernel
4.Finding a flashing method for the Bootloader so that you can actully flash recoveries and ROMS
5.And finally praying to God that it works
The HTC HD2 has gone through with this process, but the thing that made development easier was the popularity of the device.....before gaining it's fame as a "Multi-OS device",it sold like hotcakes(check out it's history and you'll see)....The Lumia 610 on the other hand, doesn't have that much experienced developers to back it up.....The HD2 got even luckier as the HD7 was launched, because it had nearly identical specs.....which is the reason the legendary phone also gained the gift of WP7
If you have just skipped to the end because you got bored halfway...........You don't have enough developers to back you up

[Q] Windows Phone on DX

Is possible to run wp on our phones ?
short answer is no, it cant
long answer is it would need massive support from WP users (there are not much of them since it is kinda dead platform and they have no reason to be interested in this particular device, tbh, there are nexuses, xperias, and htc flagships like one or hox+, why would they want dx?), also its very tricky to do that, i think only phones running originaly wp was transformed into android devices, and the one with best support for this, HD2 was after several years able to fully run android without needing wp, this phone will never be as popular as HD2 (i dont mean it bad, but long time ago, market wasnt full of different phones, there were only few of them and HD2 was one of most popular, ofc there are others transformed devices, but the point is clear...)
anyway, why would you want wp for dx?
I expected this question "Why i ask wp on dx" xD.I just wanted to try, to work with wp 1 week or more...Just to see how is it.I like the style on wp and the lumia phones style. Before to buy my DX i was wonder to buy lumia or dx.Anyway im shure that i made the right choise WP cant be compaire with android.

You can install a launcher like "launcher 8"
gesendet mit HTC Desire X + mySENSE-dx RC3.5
WP or Android
Few years ago I had a HTC Diamond2 (Topaz) phone which has Win 6.5 OS.
Some guys tried to port android on it and it was a very nice try, I remember that I tried every build on it. Main problem as I remembered was the kernel and memory management...
So even Win would be an open source the porting of an OS would be only an experience and nothing more... If you want a true WP phone you would buy one..

[Q] Can I install any ROM on any device?

Hello all,
This may be a stupid question but I'm not very clear on it. I have an HTC Inspire 4G rooted and with a custom ROM and its android version is 2.3.5. I recently bought another phone that comes with android 4.2. I'm wondering if I can install a 4.x android version based ROM on the HTC Inspire since they have same level processors and the Inspire has even more ram. So far I've seen smartphones as small computers; but in the clockworldmod site there is no ROM above android 2.3.5 to download. Besides the drivers that come with those ROMs is there something else stopping this device to support newer ROMs?

sorry, I meant for HTC Inspire.
it takes too much to answer specifically, but here's the simple answer:
the answer is no, you can't.
the OS is different, and even the phone, too.

thank you!
so the short answer is NO...can somebody tell me the long answer if possible?
Long answer is simple. You flash a rom built for another board and you will most likely be using your phone as a paper weight! Each device had its own motherboard if you will. Each with its own framework designed specifically for that board. You flashing a rom built for a different board is like mixing oil and vinegar

Got it...I tought Android ROMs where like a PC operating system which just download and/or install the drivers needed (if they exist for this OS) depending on the computer hardware.Maybe in the future they will
You should find Android 4 custom ROMs in the device forum.
Just check it out, maybe you find something for your device:

It will only work if there's a port for your device. Sadly, mobile devices aren't as easy to handle as desktop computers. On the desktop you can take the OS and install it on (almost) all devices because it includes drivers for all standard PC components. On mobiles, however, you need separate drivers for every device as all devices are special and (more important) the manufacturer often does not make it easy for devs to write the necessary drivers. Always remember, we who are modding our phones are a minority.
You shouldn't be too sorry about the absence of a port for your device though. Ubuntu is (even though it's rapidly making progress) much slower than Android, even on officially supported devices.

Dude, you are going to brick your phone. You can't just flash whatever to wherever.
Your phone was built for Gingerbread. It is thin on Hardware resources. I'm sure it is struggling if you've updated it into Jelly Bean. There are alternate ROMs that might run better on an Ace 2. Check the Ace 2 forum at XDA... http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-ace Debloat the damn thing. Samsung layers so much icing on there you can't taste the actual cake. I mean the skin (Touchwiz) is sooo thick it robs the performance. Especially at your phone's age and the major jumps in OS version it's gone through. You've got to blast out a lot of the grunge that's clogging the pipes.
If you truly want away from Android get a phone designed for another OS. You can get a brand new phone fairly inexpensive off contract and not have to deal with Android. I like the Nokia Lumia 520. A great entry level phone that is modern and runs well without breaking the bank. Or maybe you can find a quality used phone on Craig's list.
i find it hard to believe a bricked ace 2 is any different than a functional 1.. i never flashed anything onto it...
okay.. ill try downgrading it to gingerbread..... need to figure out how though lol

Dude, not to be an ass. But there are a couple things... You will need to develop your own drivers. If you do (somehow) get a standard Linux distro installed, you won't even be able to get the screen to turn on. Second of all....YOUR PHONE CAN BARELY RUN ANDROID! What makes you think it can handle a full Linux operating system like Kali Linux? And the last thing you need to realize. You WILL NOT be able to make calls, text, or get mobile data on your phone. If the phone is that bad...go out and get a new phone. Sorry man.
