Hi
I have a Legend and i have made it S-OFF with htc-dev
now i am trying have it rooted and flash cwm onto it.
when i boot into HBOOT with power + vol- and plugin the usb cable and enters the adb like this:
Code:
C:\legend>adb reboot bootloader
error: device not found
C:\legend>fastboot devices
SH0BTNX04748 fastboot
C:\legend>fastboot flash recovery.img
unknown partition 'recovery.img'
error: cannot determine image filename for 'recovery.img'
C:\legend>
I have tried a number of the guides here and other places on the net, but cant get it rooted or flash cwm.
I am suspecting some error on the Legend, because i cannot even flash the latest update for it:
RUU_Legend_Froyo_S_HTC_WWE_3.15.405.6_Radio_47.51.35.17_7.13.35.05_release_222317_signed.exe

any and all hints and proposalsare welcome in my "quest" to solve this problem.
Happy new year!
You obviously did not fully read the flashing instructions correctly, the flashing command you typed into your post is not compleat or correct.
Hint:-
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Or
Adb shell flash_image recovery recovery.img
Another usefully hint, read this post

Hi Ranger4740
Happy NewYear to you as well (we are in 2013 with almost an hour in denmark by now)
Your Right, I missed some things. My bad.
It seems I cant get it to S-OFF. Only unlocked. and i have HBOOT 1.02
So I tried the fake-flash but as the picture shows it doesnt work either.
signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

I more and more believe that it is going to be retired. I just hoped I could try ICS or JB on it, like I use on my Desire and Sensation.
As noted by me and others in many many threads regarding hboot 1.02 you can't use fake flash you must do the s-off method of clockwork mod recovery.
Do the s-off flashy thing, then you can boot into clockworkmod recovery

I really do need to get better "search skills" in forums. I found the "how to root htc legend" tread and the htc supertool v3 and my (many ugly words) phone still wont do as I ask of it. I put my next question about the tool in there.
So i believe this should the last post from me in this tread.
A lot of thanks to you for help, hints and inspiration
Best regards

When your done with a thread rename it to [SOLVED] Can't flash CWM so other people can use it and be sure it works. Thanks

I got my Evo 3d off Craigslist this morning and i love it. Traded my Evo 4g plus cash for it and i couldnt be happier. I was very successful in rooting the 4g amd never had any problems that i can think of and im hoping the same goes for the 3d.
Anyways ive been reading and reading on how to root it, get s-off so i can install a recovery and them flash a rom and kernel. Ive managed to confuse myself because it seems that if you root it one way, you may not be able tp fash custom kernels and if you use another method to root it, your more than like to have all sorts of problems.
Basicall i need help and if someone could post a link to show me best method on how to root, s-off, install custom recovery, and install a rom on the 3d it would be greatly appreciated.

I ended up goin a different route by using the HTC unlcock bootloader and that was suscessful. I still have s on and I think I'm gonna keep it that way for now but I need to install a custom recovery.
I've tried setting up sdk all morning and can't get the cmd to recognize adbas an interal or external command. Not sure what exactly it is that in doing wrong.
I wanting to know if there'sa way to install my first custom recovery thru the bootloader in my phone without using my computer so I can flash the su.zip and get this thing rooted. Thanks

The twrp recovery has a method to flash that recovery without a computer by downloading it as a zip and naming it properly. See their site for detail.
I still recommend s-off since it is easier to flash Roms and the ics Roms tend to bootloop with s-on.

I dowloaded and renamed it to PC86100IMG.zip then went to bootloader, it read the zip but said "update fail, main version older!" Have any idea as to why its saying that?

I was finally able to get adb recognized but when I type adb reboot bootloader it gets into the bootloader just fine but when i type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img it "fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external demand"
I'm using jtniggles unlock hboot 1.5, twrp recovery, root ,flash

It looks like you renamed it to the wrong thing. If you downloaded TWRP 2.2.0 zip, it must be renamed PG86IMG.zip on the root of the sd card. Then when you update in bootloader, it should work.

Hmmm... Does your phone boot? If so, you could download 4ext (see my signature) and install their app. Then it will push the custom recovery for you. I use 4ext myself anyway.
I tried using their app already and it won't let me since I don't have root

Once thaat was fixed, I installed twrp recovery and flashed Su.then did the wire trick which me VERY nervous but it worked and got S-Off after a couple tries and I then installed 4ext recovery from which I understand is the best recovery available. Thanks again!

Your welcome. Glad you figured it out. I personally have never had an issue with the 4ext recovery.
After flashing a new rom, I'm not able to get pass my bootloader. Even after restarting the phone, it boots up into the bootloader. Any ideas on what to do to get pass my angry bootloader?
Thank in advance
Did you try getting to recovery from the bootloader, if you can't try installing the recovery again by putting the PJ75IMG.ZIP on your sd card then try again and hopefully it works and you have a backup

You need to copy the boot.img of the rom you are flashing to your fastboot folder and then fastboot the boot.img
That happened to me a couple of days ago when I was going from mean rom to viper rom.

After you copied the boot.IMG from the rom folder you are flashing into the fastboot folder, you open cmd if you have windows, cd to your fasboot folder and typed that command to flash the boot.img

Hi everyone,
I recently tried to flash a new ROM and had to upgrade my HBOOT. After i did so, I continued to flash the rom but probably made a noob move along the way because it got stuck at the HTC boot logo. I turned my phone off and then booted into recovery again but then got the error that 4ext was booting into safe mode because it could not mount the sd card. I did a bit of research and came across a thread that said to reflash 4ext and so I did. Now when I'm trying to boot into recovery, I get stuck at HTC boot logo again. At this point all I can boot into is HBOOT. Is there anything I can do or is my phone pretty much bricked?
My HBOOT version is currently 1.93.002.
Thanks.

Well i cant get into 4ext at all now.
But i do have a few questions if you dont mind:
Would i lock it simply by doing fastboot oem lock in command prompt?
So the ruu would be the first one under tmobile on this site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617644?
And could you link me to or give me a quick tutorial on how to flash the ruu without being able to get into 4ext?
