Has anyone figured out a way to get quick reply or quick compose functionality with Google Voice? SMS Popup has this feature, but doesn't support GV SMS...
Or, is there a way to reply directly from the Android notification tray?
I have been endlessly searching for a solution, and I realized that you guys might know how to achieve this.
Thanks.
Anyone know a way to do this?
Maybe using an app like GO SMS?
Is it possible to do this at all?
When I emailed ChompSms they said it was on their to do list but no ETA.

I dont see that coming. As was mentioned before GO SMS has that if you were using it for your primary number. I personally don't see any dev jumping on that for GV anytime soon since I see more people using GV as their "tiger woods" number these days lol. I was happy finally after the bugs were fixed and there actually was an indication in the notification shelf that I had a GV text.
I feel like there's gotta be a way to do this with Tasker - I'm still searching around, but if anyone has any ideas...

Yeah, I was hoping for something like this that would allow GV functionality....
Would this help?

Not really, but man, is that thread a gold mine
The good news is, I got a tasker popup working for sms.. but I'm sure there's a much better way to do it. I'll post here as soon as I figure out.

That's good news. Does the popup include quick reply functionality?
If so, is the quick reply functionality available in the lockscreen?
Nah, no quick reply, and honestly, would have no idea how to do that. This basically pulls the text from the notification bar and displays it in a pop up- kinda ghetto style
But maybe there's a way to make it so, when u click on the popup, it jumps to the message in the app... I'll try that.
If someone made an app to do this using purely google voice and not traditional sms, I would pay at least $5 without a second thought. When I had an iphone, there was a jailbroken app that would let me hold a volume button and then show a quick compose pop up for regular sms.

Yeah, a GV app with quick reply would be really awesome.
I have seen the iPhone app you're referring to, and that's pretty much exactly what I think would be perfect...
just a little 3 months later bump (!) .. can't believe this is still an issue
I'll give it a bump too - would love GV popups.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Mayne if someone can take the coding from text plus because the text plus app has quick reply so maybe someome can integreate it into google voice app or make another app using it just a suggestion really want the quick rply because i use GV as my primary textong cuz i dont have and dont want texting through carrier
Does text plus work for gv notifications, even without quick reply?
. . NS4G . . CM7 . .
bump...and a callback feature would be epic
lol. I wish this wasn't still an issue. Any updates?
hey guys... hold on to your socks. I found an app that allows for Google Voice SMS popup notifications:
did a little post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21231715#post21231715
Can this be done for our phone? And if so, can one of you smart developers/themers create a flashable zip for this. This would look awesome.

I believe ADW launcher has a setting for that. And I think certain roms do as well.

I have the paid version of ADW and have never seen that option. Im pretty sure I have looked through all the ADW options. But Im kind of looking for a universal option which a launcher probably wont do. I Have tried most of the ROMS available. Right now I am using Eclipse. It doesnt do it.
Hmm. You've had this on other phones? If so which ones? I'd like to take a look at how they do it and maybe figure out a way to get our phone to do the same. I read the article briefly and it seems that in order for it to be universal it may require a lot of typing.

From reading the article, unless I'm misunderstanding, it looks to me like it has to be coded into the app. I've got at least one app that does this now. Might be more but I've never paid attention until now. Quick Settings will do this if you have it set to dialog mode. It doesn't blur but it does dim the screen. But that function (blurring) too would appear to be something coded into the app.
Yes this particular article is regarding writing an actual app, its not a function on any launcher. I don't know of a launcher setting to do this universally, there are some options if you crack open a theme or rom and start playing with xml files but thats about it.
I have not had this on other phones. But I've seen it before. Check out this video and look at the 30 second mark:

Thats what I thought it might be. the xml files. But Im not a developer. I wouldnt know where to look or what to change.
Ya doing that would be a big rewrite as far as xml's go...the effect is cool and i wish it was easy to implement universally but as far as i know its not easy...i looked into it a while back.
This seems like a cool effect but the amount of work for the payoff is just not worth it.. especially if its an app by app basis.. I looked at the link quick.. will executing this do this to all apps or is it app by app basis.. if it does the effect to all apps I would look into this further

Just saying again, I'm no developer. But even if that link I posted is just refering to designing an app, I would think there's a place to put this in the system ui files. I know that when I power down my phone, it blurs the background when it's saying "powering down the device" or something like that. But that's the only time it does it. Also, I would think anywhere it has the dimming code, which happens when a dialog box comes up like when you long press the home screen to add a widget. Can't you add or modify the code that does that?

Well the trick would be to find a Rom that does that effect then copy the code from there...If anyone finds a rom with that effect, let me know i can try to find the code, i would love this effect but i just don't have time right now to do the research...maybe this weekend.

How about this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980614
In the third post, there is a mod for advanced power menu. Im not sure if the blurred background is part of this mod or the Desire HD ROM.

Well that Link above the rom package contains just the android.policy.jar file in it so maybe thats where the setting is. I decompiled and looked through it but i couldn't find anything pointing towards blurring the background, maybe someone else that has a little more experience than me wanna give it a crack. Sorry i couldn't help, i will keep my eyes open for this effect and post if i find anything.

Does anybody know how to edit the Setting for my phone to have a black background and whit text, im getting tired of this ugly white background
Can you be more specific? I see in your thread title you say settings.apk. Are you saying you want a black background and white text just in the settings? What ROM, if any, are you using? If you are using a custom ROM like CM7, I believe its made that way by default. Its been a while since I have used it. I think even Eclipse is black but I'm not 100% sure. So I am guessing you must be on stock Gingerbread. Which means the only way to really do it is to install a custom ROM.

yeah im just on the stock rom, and i want to change the settings in the actual settings app to have a black background and white text. Any ideas on how to do this?? any help is appreciated
Truth be told, trying to decompile and then edit an apk file is more painful than pulling teeth. Like js said above, you'll want to flash a custom ROM to gain real customization. There's plenty here that are awesome.

alrighty, thanks for the help... but one more question, which .png file is the actual status bar in the framework-res.apk file?
Well you could either open every png file until you find the one you're looking for. But the only way to know for certain (our so I believe) would be to have access to the actual xml file within the apk that references that png resource.
The only downside is that if the apk was obfuscated when it was compiled (and most are) you probably won't have access to that xml.
This comes from my dabbling in android app development. However, some greater, smarter person than myself may have a different answer.

alrighty, thanks for your help
I gave up hope of root and custom Roms and got myself a sony xperia Z Ultra which I really like other than low volume and I REALLY miss the stock messaging app for the adjustable font size with the volume controls (get tired of grabbing my reading glasses )..... AND the ability to delay/schedule ssending texts.......
So if there is any way I can pull that app from my mega after i have lost root / been force fed the 4.4.2 update.....And before I sell it..... or if anyone can point me to a way to download that messaging app... I would really appreciate it!
You can, but it probably won't work as most apps require the touchwiz framework which is Samsung only

well thank you but that sounds discouraging.....
Then do those features (adjustable font size with the volume controls AND the ability to delay/schedule ssending texts) sound to anyone like something I could find together in another SMS App ?
I am not sure specifically but there are a million SMS apps. I particularly like sliding messaging.
Sent from my GT-I9205 using Tapatalk
yeah the fact that there are SO many is one of the reasons I am asking for advice to pull that one I like so much, OR find ONE app with those features.... I will check out sliding messaging - do you know if it has the features i am looking for?
still looking for advice...
patiently.... and i swear i have tried searching.... just bumping in hopes of getting someone's attention that has been in similar situation
Does any body have any idea how to sort the app draw in alphabetical order? Makes it hard to find anything when its just randomly jumbled.
It is missing in many regions, according to the S6 Q&A section. Hopefully this gets restored in a future update.
There used to be an app for doing this years ago, touchwiz never used to have this function originally. I came on here to ask if anyone knew a good app for doing this and saw this thread. Can anyone recommend something?
They always has it but not with the s6 so far only some regions have it. For now just use nova launcher better faster more organised or sfinder friend

What if someone with the option extracted their launcher apk and we installed it replacing ours, should that give us the option back?
I have that option. I can help try and extract it if someone can walk me threw it.
