Hi,
I am looking for a utility that keeps my download active in the background even if the call/sms come... Though I tried download manager but they don't work on downloading from hotfile sites..
Basically I am looking for an apk that keeps the data connection active even during call.
Thanks.

In my experience the best downloading machine is the Opera Mobile Browser itself.
However if you are looking for a stand alone downloader I recommend ADM or Advanced Download Manager.

I myself prefer opera but the problem is as soon as someone called me the download interrupted. . So I am looking for a software that keeps the data stream active in background. .

How about dolphin browser?

The stock browser does that quite well, despite the general slow speed in browsing for downloads it is effective

The best one is Adownloader, just in my opinion. For resumable downloads and torrents.
Is that even possible I thought any data was paused while in call

Even tried using the Google Reader App to download and view it.but just pops up a empty web page. If I hold down on the link and click save link it tries to play it right away.but wont play since its a large file/video.just keeps showing its loading! Can anyone please help me out? Thanks a million! Oh yea also tried the BeyondPod Player App too but it says download failed! Here is the link

Has anyone else had a problem with the Opera Mobile browser frequently freezing on the S2? I had to uninstall Dolphin HD as it was causing spontaneous reboots, but Opera Mobile seems even worse.
I'm running stock XWKI4 (2.3.4), upgraded via Kies and rooted.
No, works perfectly and is the only browser I use.
Which firmware/ROM are you running?
Works ok for me except not able to view videos in it.always shows a black box instead. Both versions of opera very stable other than that.

Opera has been rock solid for me. If you can't view flash, it's likely because you tried to use titanium backup or alike to integrate adobe flash into rom. It breaks the flash functionality sometimes. So you want to uninstall adobe flash then install again.

Didn't work which is a pain. Just uninstalled flash instead. Opera is by far the best browser so far except for that small issue.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Did you check your settings to see if flash is off? You can choose on demand, off, on. If I recall rightly it defaults to on demand and then you click on a video you want to see in the browser itself on order to view it. I leave it that way, most embedded video I have no interest in.
Odd that it's just me that has this problem. I just tried rebooting, then opened Opera Mobile again, hit the Guardian mobile news site and it froze a few seconds after bringing up the first article. Completely un-usable. Opera Mini is fine however
???
check opera mobile/mini thread. Yesterday there somebody described the same issue on sgs2, so you are not alone.
Hey just wondered if there was a tweak to make apps think their on wifi? Im trying to use bbc player at work but i need to be connected to wifi and i don't have wifi at work. Im on three network with unlimited data and would love to find a tweak to let me use apps thinking their on wifi. I had this tweak on my iphone but can't find it for android.
Thanks

Just use standard web browser with desktop user agent. The video quality is very similar on both platform anyways .
Pulsar g2 had once moded the application but I think it's no longer available.

Sweet worked on the default browser
Would still like the tweak if anyone knows of 1.
Cheers

Done a search but nothing of relevance came up in these forums.
Just got my phone today and so far just using the stock browser which seems ok but undoubtedly there are better browsers out there, i always used X-Scope on my SGSII but im a bit tired of that now and looking for something else,i hear Chrome for ICS is supposed to be very good, so what browser is everyone using then?
Chrome is not that great on s3 yet, it lags and has touch delays..stock browser is undoubtedly the best browser I have tried . It gets the work done. Only thing I don't like is how you manage tabs . Try dolphin browser, should run as stock but with some enchanced features
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Well the built in browser works really nice, but i personally like
firefox and that you can use addons like adblock and so that i value
a lot personally.
Though I don't currently have the S3 yet, I'll probably use Boat Browser. Easy to use and has been the best I have used for my tastes. It'll be the fist I install when I get my S3.
Dunno where you heard that Chrome 'lags', that's definately not the case. Alright, you don't have Flash. I always thought of it as a huge drawback but I haven't missed it a single time and I've been using Chrome for Android since the very beginning.
It has great tab management, staggering performance and a brilliant look. One of the best things about it is the integration with your desktop Chrome (and all other versions of Chrome you might be using.) Open tabs are synced in real time so let's just say you want to open a link from your phone on your desktop. no more mailing it around, now you can just click on it on your desktop. The bookmark sync is great too. And it's Chrome.

Use Chrome. Also install Flashify. In the rare instance you launch a site that needs flash, just click share, flashify, then select an alternative browser. The page you were browsing is then opened for you.

I didn't hear it, I experienced it. Visit www.aftonbladet.se with both stock browser and chrome. While stock handles the website like any other..chrome gets real messy. The touch response like 1-2 seconds after you started to pan. It's just me?

That site works a treat for me. Or at least, I think it does, I can't read that language, so I can't tell if it's somehow horribly broken something or not

I just froze the s3 stock browser using titanium backup and copied the browser from my s2 cm9 rom into /system/apps. It works brilliantly! Need root though
So far, the stock browser is doing it for me

Does a bit at first, but once you pan through the entire Page and it loads up all the content its fine.

ICS Browser+ for me. Persistent user agent switch, customisable quick controls, negative colour mode, everything I could possibly need in a mobile browser.

Chrome still sucks for me even after you let it fully load pages . Zoom in and out pinching and panning it just freeze-lags on me all the time . You guys force gpu acceleration?

Stock browser works well here.
Before I used Dolphin, but there's a bug or something. When double tapping to zoom in on an area on the page it always zooms in to the left of the page (instead of the area you double tap)
Do more people experience this bug?
Dolphin Mini - best interface, not a ton of features
Dolphin HD - alright interface, just works
Opera Mobile - most like a PC, best comparability with websites that give trouble, has hardware acceleration, super smooth
Stock - smoothest, least features, and has problems downloading certain types of files, or downloading at all from hosting websites
As of ics when you move browser in the background, that is switch from browser to another app, the flash content on the web page gets paused, like the waiting seconds countdown on a file sharing website, it simply means you can't multitask,
So is there a app that can prevent the browser from being dead in the background, or a floating browser will do the trick

sorry dude, im afraid that's not possible since the YouTube app is not designed to play video in background,n since it make little sense bcoz how you gonna watch,n if you want only audio it's not what YouTube is made for

I meant with browsers not YouTube app. With opera we can easily browse other tabs while listening to music on YouTube, even without ram manager. Well I guess I'll just have to stick with SuperVideo.
Btw, what other improvements ram manager makes? Other than keeping flash on file sharing sites while background, which opera does by itself, I think, there seems to be no visible changes..
Found a workaround in Firefox
Thought I'd share this workaround.
1. Flash Player (I'm using version 11.1.115.12)
2. Firefox for Android (version 17)
3. Use site requiring flash
4. Open settings menu in Firefox
5. Press Home/Power button to multitask/shutoff display.
Useful for flash music / radio / video.
You may want to use another browser to surf with music in the background.
cons:
Music continues playing if headphones pop out.
Not too sure of the battery drain.
Works on my stock Verizon S3 Jelly.

Got it. Misunderstood your steps. Working fine now. Thanks a lot.
Tnks, fr tc suggestion,
But wht I'm looking for is live gold rates, wht i exactly want is, when i move to another app from a browser, i still want the browser to run in background, it will be helpful to others when they r downloading files from megaupload etc where the timer stops once u leave the app

Try OverSkreen. It will keep Flash running even with the screen turned off and while using other apps. The only drawback is that you need to keep it laying on top of everything. You can make the window tiny so it's less bothersome but it would still be better to find something that runs completely in the background.
