Nova laucher update - cannot load now? - TouchPad General

I just updated Nova Launcher yesterday and now it cannot load to the home screen. I have Prime as well.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing it and the Prime key.
I have restarted the system between these steps.
It will not load...I did not realize how bare my Trebuchet screens were until now.
Anyone have tricks to try?
I believe I am running the nightly from around the 23rd, after mic & camera were working off the base CM nightly.

As you have paid for the Nova app have you tried emailing their support to see if they have a fix?

Hah...wow...from my OG Droid through my Rezound and Touchpad, I have almost completely disregarded the source/manufacturer unless absolutely necessary. Odd to have the ability to reach out to the maker, thanks for the suggestion!

Are you using standard DPI? I had that issue at 120 DPI and set it back to 160 DPI and started working fine.
エイトリックス から 送ります

Yeah, I am running at 120 DPI, 160 always seemed like I was using Duplo blocks compared to regular Legos. Can you get the same home screen "area" by adjusting the rows and columns?
I will have to wait until I get home to put the zip file for 160 on my TouchPad. Then I will test that as well.
I am in touch with the dev, and just sent a logcat file over for them.

Yeah, you can resize the icons and adjust the rows & columns to fit more icons.
I've asked the developer for simple features before (which were added) so figured running at 160 for a while isn't enough to bother him.
エイトリックス から 送ります

So it isn't possible to use Nova Launcher with DPI set to 120 anymore?
I'm using the free version, just updated to the latest CM9 nightly and un- and re-installed Nova but the issue persists.
Same with Apex Launcher, always fc.
Will any other DPI less than 160 work?

I tried different settings but same result. Stock launcher works fine. I am too used to Nova to care about DPI, so for now 160 will have to do.
エイトリックス から 送ります

Kevin (the developer) emailed me saying it will be fixed in next update. Just updated to beta 2 and sure enough everything works fine at non-standard DPI settings.
エイトリックス から 送ります

Yeah, Kevin was really fast on everything and had a beta for me to test by Friday night. Unfortunately I was so tied up with stuff, this is the first I could get back to the forums.
He found where the code was trying to load xhdpi instead of vldpi when faced with the 120.
Still going to try to go back to 160 dpi. I have not found a good document on the differences/benefits, pros/cons of 160 vs 120, but it sounds like 160 might be better, and Nova will allow me to resize the icons, which was the primary reason I changed it.

i think the dpi has more to do with google play market compatibility (or so i've read)

Personal preference for me. I like the size of status bar and browser tabs. Makes keyboard smaller and gives "more" real-estate when surfing or going through files/menus.

Same for me, too used to the small size than to go back to 160dpi Lego brick style

"Essentially" increase the resolution on your Fascinate

Did this on my Droid 1 and it was great tried it on the Fascinate and it's even better since the screen is bigger. It requires root to do, I used root explorer to do it all from the phone. I'm currently running 192 and haven't had any problems. On the droid I did try something like 100 and got caught in a boot loop so proceed with caution when trying crazy small numbers or be prepared to reflash. I've attached some screen shots to show how much "more" screen real estate I have now.
I don't take any credit for this and just wanted to pass it on to people that may not have seen it yet.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...-droid-screen-higher-resolution-tutorial.html
I'm using ADW with the desktop set to 5x6
Because of the PenTile display matrix of our sAMOLED screens, this may result in significant degradation in the legibility of small fonts, that some users already notice on the stock display.
You can also use the app on the market. LCD Density changer if you dont want to mess with ADB or modify system files. I use it on my Evo.
Works great! I used it on my X as well and looked great. The only thing I wish is that the beautiful Widgets hone stretched the width and the keyboard stayed the original size haha. BTW OP the 192 setting looks amazing.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
If you install the droid x multi touch keyboard it stays the same size. I also wish beautiful widgets stretched cirrectly
Only problem is it makes the dialer look really stupid by which I mean the dialer doesn't take up all of the screen so it looks awkward.
ive noticed it also freezes the virtual keyboard when increasing density!
This is great! I'm loving the new screen "real estate". I can now do 5 rows with launcher pro. And everything looks much cleaner! Thanks for sharing!

How come I can't just edit this in root explorer
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
Make sure you mount system as R/W first
For some reason I can't mount there..hmm
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
you can use ADW to do this same and fit more icons as well as stretch widgets like beautiful widgets...
Anyone else have a problem with some apps sticking to the changed settings? I ran the LCD Density changer and changed it to 192 and loved it then decided to go back to stock 240. Well when I did a few of my apps never changed back even after uninstall and reinstall. Then I decided to run a factory reset and still they havent changed back. For instance, the touch area is off on Unblock Me. To move a block I actually have to press about a 1/2 inch to the left of the block to actually select it. Anyone know what I can do to get it back to brand new. I am coming by way of the X so we would just have to flash the SBF File and it would be a Factory Stock Phone. It that basically what the ODIN is for the Samsung?
EDIT: Figured it out. Apparently when you do a "Factory Reset" via stock recovery it doesnt quite do a full Factory Reset. When I went into the phone setting and did the "Factory Reset" in there it completely reset my phone and did the trick.

ADW Launcher - Resize the AB icons????

Hi all,
I'm sure all of you are flashing CM7 stable builds on your Atrix rite now and ADW Launcher is default in the ROMs.
I know our Atrix has a larger resolution (960x540) than most phones, so ADW's AB icons (the 5 icons in the dock bar) looks pretty small on screen, even though I set the size of AB icons to maximum 10. Anyone knows how to set it bigger than 10 in settings so that it would look nicer on our Atrix??? thanks in advance
Just adjust the DPI settings in build.prop. It will make Market act a little funny with some programs not being able to be downloaded or paid for, but you can adjust everything as big or small as you want. If you need Market, just reset the settings to 240 and yer good to go. I'm sure there are other alternatives but that's what I do cause i have 99% of my programs backed up with Anttek Appmanager, which is free AND turns anything you download and install into an installable .apk for a later date. I know, smexy. Kinda like TiBu except free.
Wouldnt that compromise the screen resolution and would make it all blurry since i basically fatten every thing up???

Yes, so I'd avoid that. If adw lets you use custom icons, you could always manually resize them on your computer. I use irfanview to edit custom icons that I use with launcherpro. 96x96 pixels is the average size. Try something larger.
unfortunately, i don't think ADW support custom icons, unless you install like a whole new theme with preinstall icon set in theme.....

*cough* launcher pro *cough*
ADW does support custom icons, just hold down on the icon and then hit edit.
also, you can get an app called OldMarket that allows you to swap between the old market which allows you to download any app, despite of your LCD Density (i have mine set to 180, high resolution FTW - phone has never looked any better)

LCD density and scrolling problem

I've been trying to play around with LCD density to get some honeycomb apps working properly, and I've found that LCD density at 120 makes CNN, IMDB, accuweather, and the stock launcher treat the view like a 10" tablet. The stock launcher goes to the full grid size, and IMDB goes to the sweet BC version. The others just stop force closing. However, the only problem I have is that scrolling looks horrible. Moving up and down in almost any list causes the text to become tiny and the animation ghosts quite a bit. Any ideas or workarounds?
Also, I can't seem to get the density to stick through a reboot. I have it saved with LCD density changer, but the only option that works is the temp/preview change one.
Edit: I edited build.prop myself and now density is sticking I think. Guess that app isn't compatible with honeycomb.

When I tried changing the density with ROM Toolbox I had issues with sense loading after a reboot. Have you seen this?
The sense launcher doesnt work very well, I replaced it with stock hc launcher from desensed rom and it looks really nice. I plan on compiling a list of apps that work better/worse at different densities when I get my tablet back (loaned it to someone to finish their semester with)

Tablet mode

So I decided to try tablet mode just out of curiousity. I read that it makes non-sense launchers smoother. Well it does. For sure. Maybe not much but its enough to make go launcher Buttery smooth. So another thing I noticed is battery life? It increased? It could just be me but I find it odd that it was such a notocable difference. I'm sitting at 73% after a full days work in a building that barely gets reception. Usually by this point I have 50% left. So this left me wondering, could systemui have been poorly coded by HTC to the point where it drains a lot of battery? I know it seems ridiculous but I implore some one to try it before they say I'm crazy. Only because I may well be. Haha. So my question is, is there a way to get tablet mode to run on ics without forcing 192 dpi. Honestly the whole phone seems more usable and the quick settings I need are already in the stock ics notification bar. And whatever was missing I have in there using power controls a free app on the market. There must be some kind of edit to force tablet without going to 192 dpi.

That's what I'm talking about! Tablet mode has been my daily for the longest time and I agree that it definitly helps out with battery life and with smoothness of launchers (especially Apex!). Sadly there is no way just yet of getting the phone to run Tablet mode without forcing the DPI to 192. I know that the Galaxy nexus has their ways of doing it, I tried getting it to go myself and no luck so far. One thing I want to get working is the Pop-up screen when you connect to the PC.
How did you get that nice looking quick settings on the Notification Bar? I never tried to change it from the regular pop up selections

Usually it depends on the App that you use to change the dpi, plus you need a launcher other than sense installed (you can have sense and something else like Go, ADW, or Apex.) I use the App call LCD Density Modder (Icon is a Monitor with a blue screen). Also It depends on the Rom that you are using as well. Some Rom's do not have the Icons in the SystemUI.APK to support Tablet Mode (Especially Sense 4 ROMS). As long as you meet all those steps you should be able to get it working with minimal problems. As stated above the only problem I run into is getting a force close when connecting phone to PC, the Pop-up that lets you select your connection mode doesnt work, you have to set your default connection type to whatever your going to use before connecting, and set it so it doesnt ask you what you want when connecting.

I love having the on screen navigation in tablet mode, but that tiny text.. MY EYES. I wish we could dig around and get the on screen navigation ICS has by default on a Gnex. I know we lose screen real estate that way, but capacitive buttons suck.

You cannot do this on any sense 4 based Rom. You need an ics sense 3.6 to be able to do it. Plus you MUST have a different launcher other than sense.

Hey man sorry for the delay, So the notifications quick keys is an app called "power controls" it is free and it's honestly pretty great. if you check the settings of the app there is an option to have the power controls stay in your notification bar. go into the app from your launcher and put a check mark in the box for notification widget. then click the pin. then click the slider looking button and you can check off which buttons to add. Closest I've come to CM7 settings in drop down.
it uses the built in accessibility features of ics to do it. this and SlimRom or any variant is the closest I have been able to get to AOSP. throw that in with tablet mode and GO-SMS stripped of all their special features except themeing and you're pretty much there. I may try GoContacts as well but the last time I did (with my evo shift) it was laggy so I haven't bothered yet. Especially since this device as a whole is waaaay more laggy then my shift in every regard. I can't imagine it would play well.
Also for standard DPI the GoKeyboard is quite nice and responsive, much more so than AOSP. These are of course my personal feelings so it may just be perceived and not reality. I used to hate GODev stuff... but since getting this phone it's the only way to get what I want out of the UI. Even their launcher is shockingly smooth with 5 screens and APW scrolling widgets on 4.
I've been dealing with the small fonts. it's irritating but what can you do. Every view even down to the Gmail app is more useful to me in tab mode.

Thats amazing, i'm going to have to check out that app for myseslf. Thanks for the heads up though on that! Small fonts are easy to evercome, but only if the
Rom you are running Tablet Mode on has the Font Size in the Display settings. What does your app Drawer look like with Go Launcher? Is it regular size or does it put like 30 apps on 1 screen?

you have to set the launcher to have larger icons. Not "large" mind you. A custom larger amount. depends on your preference.... then change the icon spacing to a larger amount. I think I did 7 columns and 8 rows. For the record I couldn't find go sms in the app store so I downloaded it online somewhere just google gosms.apk it's a free app so this is not stealing. honestly I can't wait for AOSP. I would probably take it in it's unfinished form even (just 1x and wifi.)

What's with the stock DPI?

I was real surprised the first day I used my Note II when less stuff fit on the screen that my Galaxy Nexus. I guess I assumed it would be the same, as they're both 720p. I'm used to it on stock at least now, but was just thinking...what's the point in this, Samsung? Feels like the stock DPI is designed for my grandpa sometimes "These old eyes need big letters, son"

I believe the DPI is 320.
Not sure why you would be surprised...plenty of reviews out there showing the larger...well...everything.
First of all brother,
let me say that DPI is dots per inch and it is a measure of video.dot density..
When the DPI increases the object go bigger in Android...
You said that it is like maded for Grand papas reading glass and i liked that.. but manufacturers always go for the average of optimal values , thats how they can prouduce a littile less buggy products... If they had decresed the DPI to fit more things on the screen some peoples may be complining that they cant see writing because it went too small.. There might be some peoples who might be having littile less eyepower and they may start complaining...
Brother, i heard that stock DPI of GS2 is around 320 and to fit too.many items just decrease DPI using apps like "Pimp My Rom" which is available on play store when if you are in custom ROM

I use Holo launcher and have the grid set to 7x9, with no margins, and the DPI set to 240 (just change the ro.density lines in system >build.prop from 320 to 240 using a text editor and reboot). You do have to be rooted to do this though. There are some apps that go out of alignment, but there are 240 DPI compatible ones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35583745
I also use the on screen nav bar which looks good at this DPI too.

FTFY.
Well yeah I knew things were visibly bigger, but thought it was just same dpi stretched another inch. Wasnt till I started noticing context sensitive stuff like less menu options displayed, or the winner of not being able to see text messages as I type them in landscape in google voice. And to be clear I'm not exactly complaining, I just don't see the logic in the design choice.
