[Q] Anyway to know what your stock rom was? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am a noob to XDA and this is my first post, please dont be mean!! I recently bought a galaxy s2 unlocked version from amazon.com and when i received it i flashed in the new leaked jellybean rom:
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: I9100XXLS6
Kernel version: 3.0.21-462349
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT
Build number: JZO54K.I9100XXLSJ
After flashing this new rom my IMEI number had been reset and i am currently getting no network service. The samsung SRS tool is not picking up my phone for some unknown reason to let me reset the IMEI number. Before flashing the new rom i did not take stock of what the original rom was!! Is there anyway to know what the stock rom was before flashing?
Please help!!!!

Well if it was the factory unlocked version, my guess is you had stock unbranded gingerbread.

unbranded

When you say, your IMEI number has been reset, I think, the efs folder got corrupted. its where the phone data like IMEI number is stored.
And if you want to flash stock kernel, you can visit this site, but I'm not sure how you can retrieve this efs folder data.
Regards,
Hereticnine.

Your IMEI is also printed on the sticker beneath your phones' battery.

Your probably seeing the sim lock bug and getting confused. if you flash the leaked JB rom your sim lock will be enabled so you will need to use a unlock app.
Use search, we have plenty of topics that cover this since JB leak.

and then some.....

yea i know it is but the imei number behind the battery and the one i am seeing when i dial *#06# are different. i am seeing alot of 9999's and 000's in it..when i googled it i saw it was some sort of manufacturer's default imei or something. i flashed in an unbranded uk rom xwlp7 but when i try to root it using cf-root it is not working now!!!

I did try a search in the different forum sections, Sorry I'm new here just finding my feet...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29147439
Serial number is not changed or lost, only is bad displayed in 4.0.4, if you return to 4.0.3 the serial displays again this don't have any effect in the phone, when the bug will be fixed in new 4.0.4 your serial appear again.
Slightly different problem
Bought a second hand galaxy s2 yesterday and flashed the ICS firmware. The ICS firmware flashed properly and succeeded without any errors.
s14.postimage.org/n74p8nry7/Screenshot_2012_09_19_06_57_14.png
Kernel missing Kernel version? All the Kernel versions that I've seen posted have had more information than my phone displays.
s16.postimage.org/imb2wxnhf/Screenshot_2012_09_19_06_58_25.png
The serial number is missing like in the post above.
Please could someone advise? I would like to root this phone but I don't think I can without the kernel version.
Thank you.

this is weird, I too did a search on the same subject and it brought me here other links take me off onto missing IMEI numbers etc... none seen yet that address this issue. Is it a dead issue, can it be restored back to phone such as with the IMEI? maybe a title of the thread would help in making sure I have the right one before opening them all.
thank you any help will be appreciated

Forget ICS and whatever you do don't factory reset on 4.0.4 or say bye bye to your s2. Goto sammobile and download lsw jelly bean and flash that through Odin. Just remember don't factory reset on 4.0.4!! You should of bin warned about this.

[Q] Attempted to unbrick after rooting and failed, help?

About a month back maybe two I attempted to root by S2 using several guides on this site. I managed to **** it up and brick the phone, shortly after I managed to unbrick it and flash back what i thought was the correct stock firmware.
At first I noticed several small differences in the OS, the contacts list didn't show up in the phone app. As well as these small differences I also have been experiencing an issue where the phone would just turn off and the only fix would be to remove the battery and reboot.
I have no idea how to go about finding and putting back the correct firmware on to my S2. I looked at several sites that host the many many stock firmwares but was afraid to try incase it screwed up the phone even more. I tried connecting it to Samsungs Kies but that informed me that a factory restore was not compatible with my phone.
I don't really care about having a rooted phone anymore, I just want to get back to the stock firmware with my phone fully working again.

Unless you had to perform JTAG connection or replace motherboard your device was not "bricked". Its likely you simply flashed incorrect kernel/rom resulting it device not booting to system.
I managed to restore from here

I was hoping you'd tell us
Branded? unbranded?
Take your pick. As long as it's 4.0.3 you are all good.

So if i download:
United Kingdom (Three/3)
GT-I9100LKAH3G
PDA: I9100XXLPQ
CSC: I9100H3GLP2
Phone: I9100NELP2
For my unlocked S2 which has a EE/T-Mobile sim, I'll be fine?
I've tried the 4.0.3 T-Mobile and 3 4.0.3 and both have errors once installed.
I can't seem to find an unbranned UK 4.0.3 which is what mine was originally I think.
tried looking over here?
If you want unbranded go to sammobile.

[Q] GT-I9100 Serial Number

Hey,
I have a question regarding serial number. I am currently using Official ICS 4.0.3, CSC = COA, the IMEI is displayed correctly, but it looks like the serial number that is read by Android is totally different than what is displayed on the sticker on the back of the phone. It is something like 0019...
Does this mean that the /efs folder is screwed up? Note that I used various ROMs in the past: DarkyROM, ICS 4.0.4 ROMs (where serial number was displayed 0000...), Samsung Jelly Bean Leak, CM9 and CM10 - based ROMs. When I revert, I always flash an Open Europe full wipe Gingerbread version (XXKL1) and then incrementally update to the version with my corresponding CSC.
When I connect the phone to Samsung Kies, it is able to read the phone, it says this is the latest update (4.0.3), but I kinda find it hard to believe so I am curious whether it's S/N screwed up. Also, when I looked on Sammobile.com, I managed to find downloadable 4.0.4 OTA files for Cosmote Romania (COA).
Some threads mention flashing bootloaders or flashing official ROMs. I already did flash official ROMs but never dealt with bootloaders so far, so before I do anything, I would like some help if anyone can provide me with some specific information regarding this issue.
Furthermore, this may be important for future potential warranty service and this may help other people with similar issues.
Thanks a lot!
You have a question?
Isn't there a special section for that?

Yeah, I noticed after, sorry, if the Moderators can move it, that would be great, anyway if you know the answer, that would be great as well.
hi
same here, also wondering why the S/N on the IMEI Sticker on the back of the phone is diffrent than the S/N that show up under Settings>About Device>Status>Serial number. the imei is the same. (GT-9100, 4.0.3). there is another way/code to find the S/N ?
I noticed that N7100 and GT-I9300 IMEI and S/N that displayed on the back is exactly the same as the android shows.
thanks in advance

[Q] how to recovery lost imei no Samsung Galaxy s2 gt-i9100?

i have Samsung Galaxy s2 gt-i9100(rooted) and suddenly my network signal was missing. and i dialed *#06# and display no imei and unknown baseband . so how to solve that problem?
gt-i9100
android version - 2.3.4
baseband - unknown
kernal version - 2.6.35.7-i9100xxkh3-cl479037 [email protected] #2
No EFS backup ? Try flashing some stock roms. If that doesn't work, service centre or local mobile repair shop; they have equipment to write the IMEI back to the device.
Yes sir i have i have tried to restore but it didnt work
neddinary
Sir give links to flash rom
plz
Samfirmware. No, I'm not going to give you a direct link; did your last slave die of overwork per chance ?
same problem
what firmwere should i download if it dosnt show up any baseband version????
Did anyone gotta solution?? :crying:
Try all the firmwares for your country/carrier (not 4.0.4 though, just in case you flash & forget then do a factory reset. If you've flashed a couple of those & your IMEI hasn't returned, it's fairly safe to say it isn't coming back; take it to a local mobile repair shop, many have the equipment to re-write the IMEI to the device fairly cheaply.
Did you manage to sort this? I was asked to look at a friends S2 which was showing no IMEI number, and I managed to sort it....
^^^
Spill the beans then; what did you do to fix it ?

Ah.... this fone was completely stock, still running Gingerbread 2. whatever!!
So.... all using Odin....
I updated-no joy
I rooted-no joy
I flashed newer custom ROM-no joy
Then, I tried flashing Stock 4.1.2, and away it went!!
IMEI number replaced, fone now working, friend well impressed!!
The files are I9100XWLSW_I9100XXMS2_I9100XEULS5_HOME.tar.md5
I'm not sure how to post a link (perhaps someone could show), I got them from YouTube, but have them if anybody needs them.
But if you Google for that, and you're on UK S2 I9100, you should be fine!!
Hope this helps some people, please bear in mind the usual : "I cannot be held responsible for any damage caused...."

Couple of removing branding, flashing questions

Hi, got an old S3 and I'm handing it down to my son. It's been a great phone and is still in perfect condition. It's currently locked to the Three network UK, but I want to use it on a different network (unlock it), remove the Three branding. (Flash a stock firmware) and I'm quite happy to leave it on 4.1.2
Branding: Three UK
MODEL: GT-I9300
AP: I9300XXEMD2
CP: I9300NELK2
CSC: I9300H3GEMD1
ANDROID VERSION: 4.1.2
BASEBAND: I9300NELK2
BUILD NUMBER: JZ054K.I9300XXEMD2
I have rooted several Android Samsung phones in the past and know the procedure (although can't get my Note Pro 12.2 wifi 4.4.2 rooted) :crying:
Questions:
1) Will flashing to a stock UK firmware unlock it to all networks?
2) Based the above information, which firmware would you recommend? When I look at the firmware section theres always seems to be several UK versions but none ever have my exact numbers on them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Nemo
1) no, only buying an unlock code will work on that firmware and you can't downgrade.
2) Any stock UK firmware will work, only the model number i9300 need be the same.

Thanks for the reply Boomer: just to be certain, are you saying it has to be a firmware 4.1.2 or higher that I would have to flash? Could I install 4.3?
Regarding unlocking to any provider - could you explain how the lock is made please (genuinely interested), I have already asked Three for an unlock code anyway.
Thanks again
Nemo
The efs format was altered to prevent downgrade or free unlocking, 4.3 will work but earlier than 4.1 won't.
Network lock is a switch in efs, encrypted and can't be patched anymore.

If you are one of the lazy ones that didn't upgrade from 4.0.4 you can dump the EFS and search through to find the code, because the EFS wasn't encrypted and could be accesed by a HEX editor.
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
