Hi, got an old S3 and I'm handing it down to my son. It's been a great phone and is still in perfect condition. It's currently locked to the Three network UK, but I want to use it on a different network (unlock it), remove the Three branding. (Flash a stock firmware) and I'm quite happy to leave it on 4.1.2
Branding: Three UK
MODEL: GT-I9300
AP: I9300XXEMD2
CP: I9300NELK2
CSC: I9300H3GEMD1
ANDROID VERSION: 4.1.2
BASEBAND: I9300NELK2
BUILD NUMBER: JZ054K.I9300XXEMD2
I have rooted several Android Samsung phones in the past and know the procedure (although can't get my Note Pro 12.2 wifi 4.4.2 rooted) :crying:
Questions:
1) Will flashing to a stock UK firmware unlock it to all networks?
2) Based the above information, which firmware would you recommend? When I look at the firmware section theres always seems to be several UK versions but none ever have my exact numbers on them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Nemo
1) no, only buying an unlock code will work on that firmware and you can't downgrade.
2) Any stock UK firmware will work, only the model number i9300 need be the same.

Thanks for the reply Boomer: just to be certain, are you saying it has to be a firmware 4.1.2 or higher that I would have to flash? Could I install 4.3?
Regarding unlocking to any provider - could you explain how the lock is made please (genuinely interested), I have already asked Three for an unlock code anyway.
Thanks again
Nemo
The efs format was altered to prevent downgrade or free unlocking, 4.3 will work but earlier than 4.1 won't.
Network lock is a switch in efs, encrypted and can't be patched anymore.

If you are one of the lazy ones that didn't upgrade from 4.0.4 you can dump the EFS and search through to find the code, because the EFS wasn't encrypted and could be accesed by a HEX editor.
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

Hello All, I have a few questions which I hope to get answered here in this great forum.
I have T-Mobile UK loacked and branded SGS2. The Firmware info which is get by pressing *#1234# is
Code:
PDA : I9100BOKE3
PHONE : I9100BOKD1
CSC : I9100TMUKE3
I have tried to update the software from Settings > About phone > Software update but it never connects to the server hence I stopped trying. Now I have following questions:
===============================================================================
Question 1. Rooting.
===============================================================================
I have read the thread --[17.08.2011][CF-Root v4.1] KE2/7/8, KF1/2/3/4, KG1/2/3/5/6/7, KH1/3 - su+bb+CWM4-- None of the rooted kernals (zip file) match my kernal which in my case is KE3.
Do I have to flash a different version of fimware/kernel before rebooting?
If yes,
Can I use latest generic UK firmware
Code:
XWKF3
PDA:XWKF3
PHONE: XXKE7
Build date: 09/06/2011
provided in thread --[ROM + Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KF1/2/3/4/, KG1/2/3/5/6/7, KH1/3 Download--
There are two files under this firmware which relate to my phone
XEU (Generic UK+Europe) and XWKF3 Stock Kernel
Which one of these files do I need to flash.
If No,
Then what else do I have to do===============================================================================
Question 2. Unlocking.
===============================================================================
After I have rooted the device I intend to unlock it. Odia has mentioned in his thread --[HOWTO] GT-I9100 Free SIM Unlock via nv_data.bin by Odia-- that the unlock method only works for
HW Version MP 1.200 and further in post 284 He says
Samsung have now moved to the new simlock protection across the GT-I9100 range even MP 1.200 hardware has it @ least from KG1.

Will I be able to unlock if I have the latest UK firmware XWKF3 mentioned in question 1?
How do I check Hadware version of my SGS2
===============================================================================
Question 3. Debranding.
===============================================================================
As my phone T-Mobile branded, I want to de-brand it.
jutley has provided a method to de-brand O2 branded SGS2 in his thread -[GUIDE] Debrand & Rebrand back to O2 for Samsung Galaxy S2-.
So if I use XWKF3 UK generic firmware during rooting and change CSC will it de-brand my phone too or I have to use the earlist UK firmware for de-branding.
===============================================================================
Question 4. Future Updates.
===============================================================================
Do I have to keep using flash method to update the firmware or I can use KIES.
===============================================================================
Question 5. Resetting Flash counter.
===============================================================================
I have heard that there is some counter in SGS2 to track how many times the phone has been flashed.
I have read about USB jig on internet that automatically resets the flash count.
Is there any mod I can do to accomplish this without usinf USB jig.
I hope I have explained all my questions properly and await positive reply.
Read this thread,

Hi,
I have a T-Mobile SGS2 and I downloaded Keis and it updated my phone to KF3, I then found the rooted kernel for T-Mobile KF3 and flashed that using Odin. (it's in the link posted above)
Now I can have backlight notification installed but I've probably bust my warranty.
Well, yes if you root then bang goes your warranty. Do you have a yellow triangle with a ! symbol when you boot the phone? That's shows you have installed a custom rom, and have more than likely voided your warranty.
But don't worry! Just flash an official firmware from the thread above and your SGS2 is back to it's original form and your warranty is intact.

So I have 1 question answered:
To root my device I can upgrade my firmware to KF3 using Kies and then root my device using Chainfire's CF-Root v4.1.
Can you confirm that I can still unlock the device after update?
I had apple iPhone 4 and by mistake I updated it to latest firmware which makes unlocking impossible because I can't revert the firmware back anymore.
Do we have the same issue with SGS2

I paid for my unlock code from T-Mobile so I could use my O2 SIM (Long story). After the kernel flash to root the device it still worked with my O2 SIM.
I should have rooted it first (Hindsight is wodnderful!) and then run the unlock App, OH Well.
Hello everyone,
I recently got an upgrade though T-Mobile (in UK) for a Samsung Galaxy S2. Its simply awesome, but I'm a newbie to the Android OS. Hence I have very less knowledge as to what is happening with the android OS rooting, updating etc.
So on to the main topic, I got my phone (model GT-I9100) on 2.3.5 and the base band is I9100BOKJ1.
I would like to remove the T-Mobile branding and the other software which there installed have it.
So could someone please guide me though how I could root and update my firmware to Standard samsung with out the carriers crap installed and still use the phone with my carrier?
My phone is unlocked by default as another sim card works from another carrier.
Could someone walk me through step by step as to how i could root and update my firmware to standard and unlock the device Any help is much appreciated.
I have attached a screen shots of my x#1234#
Thanks.

Hi,
I am a noob to XDA and this is my first post, please dont be mean!! I recently bought a galaxy s2 unlocked version from amazon.com and when i received it i flashed in the new leaked jellybean rom:
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: I9100XXLS6
Kernel version: 3.0.21-462349
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT
Build number: JZO54K.I9100XXLSJ
After flashing this new rom my IMEI number had been reset and i am currently getting no network service. The samsung SRS tool is not picking up my phone for some unknown reason to let me reset the IMEI number. Before flashing the new rom i did not take stock of what the original rom was!! Is there anyway to know what the stock rom was before flashing?
Please help!!!!
Well if it was the factory unlocked version, my guess is you had stock unbranded gingerbread.
unbranded

When you say, your IMEI number has been reset, I think, the efs folder got corrupted. its where the phone data like IMEI number is stored.
And if you want to flash stock kernel, you can visit this site, but I'm not sure how you can retrieve this efs folder data.
Regards,
Hereticnine.
Your IMEI is also printed on the sticker beneath your phones' battery.
Your probably seeing the sim lock bug and getting confused. if you flash the leaked JB rom your sim lock will be enabled so you will need to use a unlock app.
Use search, we have plenty of topics that cover this since JB leak.
and then some.....

yea i know it is but the imei number behind the battery and the one i am seeing when i dial *#06# are different. i am seeing alot of 9999's and 000's in it..when i googled it i saw it was some sort of manufacturer's default imei or something. i flashed in an unbranded uk rom xwlp7 but when i try to root it using cf-root it is not working now!!!
About a month back maybe two I attempted to root by S2 using several guides on this site. I managed to **** it up and brick the phone, shortly after I managed to unbrick it and flash back what i thought was the correct stock firmware.
At first I noticed several small differences in the OS, the contacts list didn't show up in the phone app. As well as these small differences I also have been experiencing an issue where the phone would just turn off and the only fix would be to remove the battery and reboot.
I have no idea how to go about finding and putting back the correct firmware on to my S2. I looked at several sites that host the many many stock firmwares but was afraid to try incase it screwed up the phone even more. I tried connecting it to Samsungs Kies but that informed me that a factory restore was not compatible with my phone.
I don't really care about having a rooted phone anymore, I just want to get back to the stock firmware with my phone fully working again.

Unless you had to perform JTAG connection or replace motherboard your device was not "bricked". Its likely you simply flashed incorrect kernel/rom resulting it device not booting to system.
I managed to restore from here

Take your pick. As long as it's 4.0.3 you are all good.

So if i download:
United Kingdom (Three/3)
GT-I9100LKAH3G
PDA: I9100XXLPQ
CSC: I9100H3GLP2
Phone: I9100NELP2
For my unlocked S2 which has a EE/T-Mobile sim, I'll be fine?
I've tried the 4.0.3 T-Mobile and 3 4.0.3 and both have errors once installed.
I can't seem to find an unbranned UK 4.0.3 which is what mine was originally I think.
tried looking over here?
If you want unbranded go to sammobile.
Hi guys,
Im thinking of going back to stock firmware and stock recovery file.
The problem is that im trying to find the samsung's stock firmware (4.1.2).
i found these over at sammobile.com :
Country/Carrier Date Android PDA CSC Download Unlock Info
Cyprus (Cytamobile Vodafone) 2013 January 4.1.2 I9300XXELLA I9300OXXELL1 Download Unlock Info
Cyprus (Cytamobile Vodafone) 2012 December 4.1.2 I9300XXELL4 I9300OXXELK4 Download Unlock Info
I don't know if these are the correct ones please advice. Also which of them i should use in case these are the correct ones?
Furthermore from what i understand and correct me f i am wrong , these firmwares appear to have some kind of simlock on them ?
My phone was bought from the specific carrier as shown above (cytamobile vodafone) but the phone doesn't have any kind of simlock on it so im not sure that the above 2 links i found are correct.
im looking forward for your help

you ain't having a nandroid from your original ROM?
If not, choose the most up-to-date one for your carrier, phone and region and flash it, that's it I guess.
Remember though, to reset counter (if it is not still 0), if you want to send it back to service.
