Current Tbolt users current Rom questions - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone running the stock ota rooted? Or is everyone running the new ics roms? My charger port isn't working anymore and I'm looking to get a replacement Tbolt :/ I'm not looking forward to it at all. Is there a universal way to root the Tbolt still? Since there are different
"Versions" of the Tbolt and each require a way to root it, right? Or am I incorrect?

I'm running Infected Eternity, which is sense 3.5 gingerbread. I love the new ICS ROMs and the whole idea of having ICS on the Thunderbolt but right now, I need something more stable and with a working camcorder since I use my phone a lot to record my one year old.
To root your new Thunderbolt, use the program in the link below.
Before you root, just make sure your new Thunderbolt is updated to software version 2.605.19... which it should be.
Don't forget to thank trter10 for his program.

Have you tried NuSense or Unsense? Both are ics and the camcorder works fine with them.

Are there any current ics roms that are stable without any major issues? I've been reading through various pages and forums and it seems as if I need to have a great knowledge base in order to even flash one. Lots of technical grammar and procedures. I'm pretty much rooting my phone for the wifi tethering, debloating of Verizon junk, with a little bit of customization.

Unsense works the best Imo. Santod is about to post a new update for both soon.

Is there going to be root with hboot 1.49

Those of us who downloaded the third leak, and those who have bought a new phone now can't get root.

Seriously? Are you illiterate?
patience is a virtue.
It's a well known fact that those Eris users with hboot 1.49 currently cannot root. It may take a long time to root because the devs work on this stuff in their spare time, not to mention most are now working on roms because the previous hboot versions have been rooted. Be patient, it could take quite a while. I'm currently running 2.1 leak v3 so I cannot root. It's not that bad.

When it comes it will be the top news in all eris forums and should be hard to miss.

ok
The only big issues I still have with my 2.1v3 if the singnal bug and my pars not showing correct... So I'm in no rush. But I'm sure the Devs are working on a fix seeing as most replacements and all leaks are a new hboot.
It just takes time.
hopefully devs will work on it during the summer

Shorts answer. Yes you can root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616
But I would wait for some stable version of CM7 and any gingerbread roms because there are still a lot of bugs to be fixed still.

Thanks for the advice. After reading the board topics on those roms I was thinking the same thing. The only thing I look forward to with rooting is the custom kernels that would increase battery life. I think sense 2 is pretty satisfactory for now.

Aosp?

Does the atrix have aosp yet since it has been unlocked.
See that big ol' search box? If only you used it!

We've got someone developing something called Fission ROM. It's AOSP based I believe.
Fission isn't aosp if it's the same one I used on my droid 2 global
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App
Right now, there's no AOSP rom aside from an early internal motorola build that was leaked from before motoblur was added. However, that rom is very unstable and too many things are broken to consider it usable.
The Fission rom we are talking about is this one. However, the person doing that port has stated on twitter that he doesnt own an atrix and uses a friend's phone when he has access to it, so I"m not getting my hopes up on it.
Since the phone is unlocked what is holding back a aosp rom?

Nope, someone has to build it, no one has yet. Just because there's unlocked bootloader don't mean roms will popup automatically.there has to be people willing to put time into working on it.

Hello all! I need serious help!

I really need to be brought up to speed on HTC development. I'm coming from a Motorola Droid x2 and I thought development would be the same but its totally different. I don't even know what the hell s-on or s-off means. I'm going to be receiving 2 new rezounds for my wife and I and I'm going to need to get them rooted, updated to ics, and new roms flashed on them. My Droids bootloader was locked down so our devs just worked around the kernel. Anyone know of any tutorials or anything that can help me out and bring me up to speed on the lingo and what (if anything) I should not do with these phones? Also, looks like they are being shipped to me running 2.3.4 which needs to go! Thanks!

He is right but this one isn't stickied and should be. Good place to start but just search before asking questions as you are most likely not the first to have that problem.

Story, one more question from the FNG, is there really that much of a benefit to wait for the official ics to be released? I'm getting the new phones today or tomorrow and I'm somewhat impatient. I can't stand bloatware. Sorry if I'm asking obvious questions but I know once I root and install ics firmware I can't go back if there is a release. Thanks.

You can go back if you're S-OFF with a RUU.
For the time being, you can flash a few different ICS leaks which are close to the official OTA but that's the beauty of modding our phones, you can even stay on Gingerbread and flash ICS ROMs and run fine with a patch as well.
Having problems with s-off. Using controlbear but everytime I attempt to begin program it says connect device and install drivers. Thi is very frustrating. Would like to actually get to the wire trick

Sure you have installed the HTC Sync drivers, and gone through the whole HTC Dev Unlock process properly? And make sure the option for USB debugging is on in the ROMs settings, plus Fast Boot is off. Check basic cabling and whatnot first too of course. Try a clean run on another PC if all else fails.
Thanks for the help!

Ya I came from Motorola myself. They lost a 10 year loyal customer with their bs. I find HTC and Samsung are the most open for developers.

Okay, so, I pretty much have everything set up perfect except does anyone know how to change boot animation? Running clean rom dev edition and when I use rom toolbox to change and install new animation then reboot, it just shows the regular clean rom boot animation so the change isn't sticking obviously. Thanks

New To Thunderbolt! Suggest Best Way To Root? 1 Click?

Hey Guys!
I am new to the Thunderbolt and I was just wondering if there was a really nice and easy way to root the Thunderbolt like the Galaxy Nexus 1-Click [GNEX TOOLKIT V11.1.0]?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Needspractice

This is currently the only working method to unlock, root and s off a thunderbolt that is running stock ics.

Thanks I'll give it a shot ya it seems other roms are creating BSOD on windows so hopefully this one works!
Man! Was the Thunderbolt not that popular? I thought it was... There is like 50 steps in that rooting process.
Why has not somebody developed a 1 click or simplified rooting program for the Thunderbolt? Just curious.
Do you know of any other way to root it without it taking forever or having extensive knowledge about rooting?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A new hboot came with our ics update which added about 20+ steps. It also made the old method from the allinone tool obsolete.

If you can find the Thunderbolt which had stock GB you can downgrade to the ENG HBOOT. It will never update if you run full stock. (plus there are several other different things you can do with it)

As far as I know it didn't work correctly. You can try it you want though. Remember that's a beta though.

I came from an Incredible 2. Broke the screen on that, but a friend was upgrading, so I grabbed his old Thunderbolt for a few beers. Surprised that this phone is tougher to root and there are less ROM options, but it's a solid phone and now I'm using Santod's Jelato ICS De-Sensed.
I used the thunderbolt tool to get root and s-off about a month ago, and it did work. I remember I did have to switch from my desktop to a laptop because of BSOD issues described in the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703455&page=54 TBTool thread. I linked to the page where they discuss the BSOD and the need for ICS radios when flashing ICS ROM.
Good luck. I does work.
The thunderbolt tool will work if you're on the old hboot and or GB. It will not work for you if youre on the ICS hboot.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
As far as ROMs go it depends on which os version you are talking about. GB there was many different roms to choose from. Only reason there are so few ICS ROMs is by the time ICS was released almost call the devs had moved on to the gnex,n4,s3,DNA, so on and so forth. If HTC would have gave the bolt ICS when ICS came out the phone would have had many ICS ROMs..
Rooting if rooting a GB bolt was easier than rooting a rezound. Granted they made it harder with ICS but that's with all phones with updated bootloaders.

downgrade from ICS/root/S-0ff with 1.1Beta TOOL
I can confirm that today I used Santod040's amazing ThunderBolt-Tool 1.1 Beta on a sweet used TBolt
that had taken the latest OTA. It did the job! Now I'm S-0ff and running a custom rom that does WiFi Tether good.
Thanks for great effort, Santod040......
What made you ask that in this forum lol? It would appear though that most of the newer devices aren't that easy to root just yet. The HTC one for Verizon currently is still locked out.
