If Samsung is willing to port it, then yes, it's possible. If they won't it'd run like CM10.1.

And from the Ubuntu site:
"...yet it uses the same drivers as Android. "
I think this is true ubuntu, and there will be deb package

Ubuntu + wine = run windows apps :laugh:
Isn't this going to be native Linux, and not just Linux in a Java wrapper (Android)?

No, because Windows apps aren't built for the ARM architecture
EDIT: Although you can combine WINE with QEMU, but that's not fast

I don't really see the point of this, to be honest, with Android already being so dominant and with Mozilla's Firefox OS already targeting HTML5 app developers. I guess Ubuntu are trying to sell it based on the brand, 'cause your average desktop GTK+ app is gonna look like **** on that, so they want people writing new Qt+QML apps for it. Still, at least it appears to be getting multitasking right; Android's implementation has always annoyed me.
Ubuntu is stated to be made for upcoming devices n Android devices. But I think it has to be ported by devs to be available for existing mobiles such as s3.

Because if not, it'll run like CM10.1.
I think this will be same as Windows vs Ubuntu or similar (Desktop versions)
Unless Android merges with Ubuntu
Only developers and people who think ubuntu is better will use it.
While an average user will keep using android. And im going to keep using it cause i like it and im used to it.

No kernel to support the hardware, no drivers to support the hardware, no recovery to work in. Will never happen. We will never have it for the same reason we will never see ios on an android phone. Its proprietary and closed down. Also I think its illegal.
And na7, that's a little unfair don't you think? WP8 is probably the most well built mobile OS out there, not to mention revolutionary in many ways. Not as closed down as IOS, not as fragmented and choppy as android, runs better of less specs, one kernel spanning across mobile and desktop for seamless compatibility, can do out of the box what android needs 6 or 7 apps to do, backed by arguably the most solid mobile hardware manufacturer in the world, I could go on. Don't know about you but one of Nokias WP8 devices will be my next phone hands down. Id love to see it on the photon but it wont happen, ever.
As you all might know Windows Phone 8 will support dual-cores and micro-sd cards, so my question would be, if it could be ported to our device.
Keep in mind I'm not a developer

I think that Windows Phone 7 can not be ported to this device because it does not have dual-core and micro-SD card support
Nobody is going to port either to the SGS2. Devs who are still developing for it have much better things to do with their (almost always) limited time.
I dont think you should expect a port unless Microsoft releases the source code, which it wont.

Think it's beautiful OS, too bad it's not as populair as they thought it would be right now. I think Ubuntu mobile has a better chance of surviving than Windows Phone.
WP8
Is there a custom rom for Windows 8 phone, actually I have Lumia 620 and want to get access to paid apps.

well... mine isn't any stable either. I think trusty version is only for nexus phones. So we cant use trusty as base, it will give boot loop no matter what. So you will have to go with saucy and remove its bugs
Try my build n5 with saucy. I'm trying trusty tahr port.
