Bought this badboy - at $5 with FREE shipping it's a very nice case. The quality of the rubber and finish is very nice for the price. It does however cover the top noise reduction mic but my callers on the other end don't even seem to notice.
Just got what looks to be the same case off newegg. I just used a hot knife to open my mic port.

i noticed there is a small slit on the top right like the battery cover. is this a 1 or 2 piece case? does the back come off?
It's one piece. The back doesn't come off. The slit is just where the pieces are manufactured together.

These are 2 cases that I ordered from Amazon for our 2 AT&T Notes.
1) The Elago G4 Breathe case for my blue Note. It is perforated entirely and I really like the look of this case, but it offers almost no protection from impact and absolutely no protection for the screen. It is slim and slippery enough to easily slide in a pocket and adds very little bulk to the phone. Cut outs are fairly accurate and for a plastic case it is a decent fit. Both the bottom and top edges are largely uncovered with this case. Buttons are also exposed fully.
If I drop the phone I can only hope that I can cause it to land on it's back somehow!
This isn't likely to be my case for long as I am not confident in its ability to protect the phone from the life I lead.
A few thumbs for anyone who wants to see this case.
2) "White Hybrid gel with stand TPU cover case"
This is on my fiancee's white Note, and I actually like it more than the Elago above this. Except for a minor misalignment of the microUSB port it fits well and offers some degree of protection from short drops. I also like the rubbery grips on the edges.
All corners and sides are fully covered minus the necessary spots for pen, charger and headphones. I like that it wraps around the edge of the screen and protects it if the phone is set down on that side. Most of this case is actually clear plastic, only the grips and part of the back are white. You can see the Galaxy Note text on the back through it to illustrate what is clear/white.
I may buy another for my Note...
More thumbs
This looks pretty nice. One question though. How is the angle that the phone is at with the kickstand? Is it easy to view under fluorescent lighting or is it at an angle where it just reflects the lights?
Nice, just bought the white case for my note. Was only $5.79 shipped and the case i have doesn't have a kickstand.
I bought the matte elago slim fit case and found that the case was too snug. It actually started to cause my power button to creak because it placed too much pressure on the bezel. Are you noticing that with this breathe case?
I had the white case myself, but good luck on the color it will change soon. It turns to a yellowish color.... And it prone to change the color of waterer color Jeans ur wearing! I would recommend any color besides white!

Yup, that's just like mine. I had it for over 2 months and used it daily. The white case turned yellowish with some other dirt marks. I tried washing and bleaching it for a few hours, but the stains are set in. It's a good case and does the job. So I ended up getting the black one. At least, it wont change colors, but now my phone looks like a cow (white and black)
Mine to! Lol

That case is on my fiancee's phone so I haven't spent too much time with it but I haven't noticed any real issues. It sit at 45deg or so and the due to the glossy screen it will reflect of course.
What is reflects depends on your viewing angle. From a seated position she tends to be pretty much straight on to the phone so I guess it reflects her face...
Bummer about the case discoloring, I'll warn her about it. It lives in her purse so we'll see how that goes.

Not something I have noticed, but it's only been a week or so. I like the slim fit case and considered buying it as well.
No black for that TPU Kickstand case?
Is anybody having problems with hairline cracks on the battery cover. I have noticed that there are several hairline cracks in my battery cover. White. It's really hard to see but there are several hairline cracks in the coating not all the way through the plastic. Not to concerned because I ordered a replacement a couple of weeks ago just to be on the safe side. Just thought I would ask if anyone has this problem. You have to look closely expecially around the camera hole. Easier to spot on the white.

There have been many complaints in Taiwan on mobile01.com from the battery cover cracking.... Its actually not the cover itself but the paint on the surface, happens on both white and blue.... u can only see in certain lighting and angles. It seems to happen if you flex the cover too much when u take it off... My way around this is to use a credit card to go around the edges to remove the cover instead of peeling it back
Yep same on my white one too
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I'll dig the instructions out when I get the chance and look but just wondering if Samsung have covered their own arses by giving you some warning or guide for removing cover.
Yeah, I have a crack between the headphone hole and the loud speaker, and it is causing the top right corner not to clip into the body properly. I have ordered a replacement back cover.
Yeah i noticed this too, I was bending the battery cover and this cased hairline cracks on the gloss paint on the outside of the battery cover. the plastic itself is fine, since its the same as the s2 cover which could literally be folded in half and go back to normal. but then again the black s2 cover didn't have any paint.
so bottom line is: the plastic of the battery cover is very flexible, but the gloss paint isn't and that's what cracks!
My laminate on the back panel started to peel so I sent the cover back for replacement (have a naked S III for a few days). Also the grip to putt it off at the top cracked.

No cracks on my cover, had the phone for about a month. I guess I am probably more careful than you guys when I remove the cover because I have long nails (real ones ) and I don't want to break them (I learnt the hard way with with the S2 )

Was just curious to know, is anyone out there rocking their Note 2 in its birthday suit? If so, any scratches yet? I myself have had a screen protector on since day 1 of owning mine whereas my friends that also have it are all naked. Just curious to know if anyone has any serious scratches of their own.

Naked.
I keep mine from things that have a high mohs rating and I stay scratch free.
Naked white with no problems. I think it's the best way to experience the phone.

I agree 100%
Another area of concern was the use of the S Pen on the screen. If that would over the course of its life span leave any surface scratches as well.

I have had a screen protector from day one but I went weeks without a case. Just put the Samsung protective cover on and it is surprisingly thin and light.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
I had mine naked for a few months and did see a few tiny scratches appear so covered up. First with a Copter screen protector which sucked!! It made the screen look like ****e. Small text was impossible to read and the S-Pen marked it. I later opted for a very cheap harder plastic no-name protector which is excellent. I have plans to buy a 10 pack and change every other month or so.
The way I see it you preserve the second-hand value if the screen is scratch free. If in two years time you want to sell it for a good price you just need to invest in a new flip-cover remove the screen protector and it's almost like new.
100% all natural. No screen protector. No case. I like the feel and look without bulky protection. I allow the Gorilla Glass 2 to do its thing.
Afterall, its a phone; its going to get used, scratched and dinged. I want to enjoy the complete phone experience in the meanwhile.
Have you seen those cars that had the bra on the front? People removed them only to find out that their paint was now two-toned, and dirt and debris had etched the paint along the edge of the bra, not to mention having a red sports car with a black mask on.
I was naked on every smart phone I've had up until the Note 2. I've always gotten scratches on every other phone no matter how careful I was.
I also have a small hard case on it. I would love to run naked on that too but the smooth back is just begging to slip out of my hand. Plus the case makes it feel more solid and reduces the creeks and growns coming from the crappy plastic Samsung insists on using.

I would be concerned if a plastic pen scratched glass.
In other words, it won't.
The glass with the oleophobic coating is at least 9 mohs.
Without the coating, its still 6.5-ish.
Plastic is around 3 or 4.
No screen protector here, I adsolutely hate screen protectors. I think they ruin the clarity of the screen. But I do have one of those folio style cases so the screen still gets covered when its not in use.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
I've been using the Seidio active case and like it, no screen protector. Just ordered a flygrip and will probably rock it naked with that.
Like others have said I won't use a screen protector as I trust the screen plus hate the feel and affect on clarity.
I'm using a cheap tpu case partly for peace of mind of a little protection and partly because it has a built in kickstand that isn't very intrusive and has been pretty handy to have.
I have mine naked, but the first few days of owning it the phone fell upside down on the wooden floor so now I have 2-3 large scratches on the screen from grains of sand
Same set up I run on every phone I've owned:
Verizon slim hard kickstand case, no belt clip
Cheap eBay matte screen protector
I keep my phone in my pocket so I need a slim case. Every since the T-Bolt, a kickstand is a must for me. I absolutely hate clear screen protectors since it always feels like I'm dragging my finger across the screen rather than sliding it. I ended up buying the $12 pack at Big Red since my phone arrived before my China protectors. The cheap matte ones look great, don't smudge, and make the screen silky smooth.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
Screen protector I got from Verizon and an all white Androidified case from Cruzerlite. My hands are a little dry so carrying the phone naked (the phone) is slippery in my hands. The case gives me a nice grip to hold on to the phone.

Oops, sorry for the sideways photo.
My typical progression is: get a new phone. Think "I need to protect this thing" and get a case. Rock case for a week or 2 and then hate the extra bulk. Take off case and love the natural feel of the phone.
I followed suit with this phone. Had the flip case ordered before the phone was out. Got the phone and immediately popped the case on. Rocked it for 2 weeks and took it off.
However, I have actually put the case back on because I found usefulness besides the protection. With the phone's size, the case flap provides more area to maneuver it. It also prevents accidental home button presses when the phone is in my pocket.

Just wondering if the frame paint is not peeling off?
The reason is that I put a full tight protected silicone case, but I need to take it of regularly for charging purpose as I also use magnetic dock (I don't want to sacrifice my USB flap, either).
I heard that the upper and bottom parts of the frame are made of painted plastic.
Is it peeling off after some time?
I believe that the whole frame is anodised aluminium, I got that from the info-graphic published by sony, and the fact that mine has gone for a skate and the bottom bezel looks not to be plastic.
No peeling I dropped mine and on top of the frame I got a deep scratch but it's still black so no peeling

Not even a scratch or anything. The frame is still black.

My phone drop off and hit a corner, and the corner is peeling, but under that peeling it's still black, i think it have a thin coat of something like glossy barnish or something like that.
And the buttons... The buttons are a completeliy deception, here you have a picture:
It's like rusty metal.
Mine is peeling, there's a white layer underneath it. (I have a white unit).
I don't know what's coming off - aluminium (is that possible? I guess so) or some paint...

I have a black unit and it feels like powder coating however as in most cases with matte finish the panels on my device has started to become glossy after the grease on my hands rubbing and rubbing against the surface in long term. Just like a keyboard become glossy after years of typing..
Question for you people that have scratches on it. How? How are you doing this? I've had mine since release and I have zero scratches or marks on the body, and I've never used a case or anything on it. Never.
So the question is; are you guys throwing it around and putting it in places with keys and other stuff, because I don't understand how it's possible to make the power button as ugly as Confus3d's button.
- Yes, I use my Ultra as my main phone, and I have it with me wherever I go
- Never used any protection
- Yes, it has hit the floor a couple of times
- Yes, I take it with me and use it when I'm out on town... not being sober.
Still after this, I don't have a single scratch. You guys must be throwing it around like a ball

I use the phone without case and only have scratches in the back and a little bit in the lense glass, and i don't know why my button is rusted, because i've never used the phone in the water.
My last phone was an iphone 4s and two years later the buttons are perfect!
I use it very carefuly, in fact the phone has kiss the floor only once and it was a friend (a stupid friend).
I think the button has some kind of paint on it, but i'm prety sure that it's not an aluminium button
I've used mine with and without case only scratch is on top and I drop it like 2 meters from me getting out from a car rest of the phone looks brand new and I have it from last year when they put this baby on sale
Actually I'm impress by the build quality also use it as daily phone so no problem here the top scratch is my fault and survived marvellous without case
I don't have screen protector and not a single scratch
Very happy with it waiting for zu2

I used the KLD Icelandic case and now the KLD Enland case.
Have had quite a few drops (~10) with most being only 2-2.5 ft (the height of my bed lol [emoji12])
There is 'peeling' on the corners of the phone due to friction between the corners of the phone and the corner of the case. There is one (relatively speaking) giant area of peel off in the lower part of the front edge. It is kind of 'contained' within the microphone slit.
I'd send pics, but it is 3:30am out here, you'll have to wait for 4-5 hours more [emoji16].
Edit: The power button is spotless, BTW.

Could it possible that the white version is made from plastic, while the black is fully anodized aluminium?

The top and bottom panel is plastic while the sides are made of aluminum. Plastic to probably help the antennas. At least on the black version.

This means, we cannot avoid peeling paint on top and bottom parts of the frame. It will peel off, eventually. :crying:
The question now: how to make it last longer...?
