Hello, so I have just started playing around with root and flashing my Razr Maxx. After having it rooted on the stock rom for a bit and liking all the new things i could do, my friend found a Rom, Wizzed Bean CDMA 4.2, and flashed it over to that. So far I have loved it. It has so many things I can customize and switch around, its amazing. Not to mention that I am seeing better battery life the I did on stock.
But with the new JB update out, I am thinking of going back to stock. I have ran into a few issues with the ROM i am using, such as my wifi not working correctly and because of that issue I cannot use tethering apps like I used to. If the JB update is good enough, I would consider going back to stock to update it.
Is it worth it? has anyone had any major issues? I have read some of the small changes for JB, and nothing really sounds that great.
I got the JB update and I love it so far.

Just so you are aware that my opinion is unbiased, I have also tried the jellybean roms and the 4.2 rom.

hey guys.
the title says it all. i want to update my phone to 2.3 but i need gps like really bad cause my job involves driving and it has to be reliable accurate and on the money.
there are a couple of roms out there that i am willing to try on the weekends just to try them out before i go with them permanently.
can you guys please recommend me a few. i care about gps the most more then anything else. cause i need it for work.
please and thank you in advance.
p.s. if the rom is stable, doesnt do reboots or get stuck etc etc would also be great cause for me time is money as i dont get paid hourly but per delivery
thanks again guys
Miui has working GPS but like all roms has other bugs and quirks.
I ran miui for several months and I to use my gps for work.
I just last week ended up going back to a stock 2.2.1 sgs rom for other reasons.
I havent had any luck with 2.3 roms and gps yet. Read that others have so maybe it's just my phone. I'm still searching for one too.
I've tried trigger 8/22, GingerZen and Simply Honey, which others have had gps success with (to some degree) but I haven't.
Still waiting for one to work for me.
I've had good luck with GPS using MIUI based ROMs. Most recently I have been using Revamped SS which gives me fairly strong GPS reception as long as I am outside and away from tall buildings.
Seconded for MIUI. Been using it for navigation around Cincinnati with no hiccups. If anything, it holds a lock better than Froyo did.
I'm pretty sure all have GPS "working". I've tried most of our 2.3 ROMs and the GPS werks as well or not as well as it has before on any firmware.
miui.us 1.9.30 is the first miui i've used. it's gps works perfectly.
I have had the best gps of a Samsung custom ROM in "RevolutionRom JVQ Final Update 2". use bullet kernel supplied.

any chance theres FFC support in that rom also?
I have been playing with my friends gnex and have to say that I have been happy with my maxx and didn't care about ICS but after playing with it a bit I am getting anxious about it coming to the RAZR. I got the 181 update a few days before some others I know I just hope I get ICS before my friends so I can show it off. I just realized I'm a f'ing nerd!!
Sent from my DROID RAZR MAXX using XDA app!
I just want to see ICS in my baby XT910 :c. I'm so desperate
I think that most people want to have the ICS on the razrs just because "it is not here yet but it definitely will come one day"...
You know - everyone wants exactly that what they can't have so that's the main reason of that ICS hype.... ;-)
...to be hones I can't wait to get it.... :-D
I want it and I want it now. I had the leak installed but it was a little too buggy for my tastes so I'm back on stock just waiting.

But you did use the chinese leak, I guess? Because from the new leak you cannot downgrade anyway.
btw: The new leak is working fine, very stable and fast.
Can someone tell me why they are crazy for ICS? I'm having 2.3.6 and it works pretty great.
I'm looking forward to trying out the new 'webtop replacement' because the performance of running linux on android is simply unusable.
I have both GNEX and Razr Maxx so I am not too crazy about having ICS...
In fact... I am (secretly) hoping the razr maxx ICS roll out later because I need to have a 2.3 device to test my app........
You guys are so silly...
I've had ICS 4.0.3 on my MAXX now for a few weeks using the first "official" supposed leak that came out. I even kept root on it. I've noticed SERIOUS changes!! First off the GUI is a whole lot smoother. The battery life? What can I say.. it's the MAXX.. I've noticed NO changes in battery life. In fact, I'm happier with the little things.. like on the email app that comes with ICS you can sync ALL mail, not just the last 30 days like on GB. (HUGE saver for me!) The keyboard.. I do miss the stock MOTOROLA GB keyboard. Sure wish I knew where I could get the apk for the MOTOROLA GB keyboard to bring it back. The camera even works faster (although the first photo still usually is ALWAYS blurry like it was on gb when trying to hurry and take a picture).
I'm overseas right now in Italy using my iPhone because I have the SIM activated but i'm SERIOUSLY wishing my MAXX would work over here because this iphone is crap compared to it! The only thing the MAXX has always sucked at is the camera, in which case the iphone spanks it all day long.
Any questions I can try to answer after using it for work for the past few weeks.
Later!

CRAP! Forgot to mention the BEST part about ICS over GB. My data connect issues are COMPLETELY gone. I've been through 3 new micro sims, a replacement razr, about to give up and decided to give ICS a shot and bam, 4G switches back to 3G without any issues now. Mobile hotspot is even more stable as well.
BTW one more ICS advantage is call recording included right in the firmware! Very nice feature that worths encountering "Customer ID error", etc on chinese leak
Ive been bouncing around all the JB roms for a while now.... I seem to have a jumble of issues with each one, including;
freezing, reboots, flicker, audio wont work, doesnt want to play audio file (sometimes Gmusic will work sometimes not.. i have an audiobook player that gives me issues too, sometimes,)
Sometimes if very smooth, sometimes not, sometimes its just so crazy laggy!!
At one point i got so frustrated that i wiped evrything! including the storage the card, system.. everything. .... still have issues.
It seems like with every rom there are just more issues...
Is there a JB rom that is running really well? no reboots/freezes everything works well?
Maybe an ICS one? Which was the best ICS rom with zero issues?
The Hybrid RCVII has been pretty much issue-free.
Would like to move to Paranoid/Hybrid for the more fine-grained per-app dpi/layout settings...
JB is still very much a WIP....
and does contain bugs that can be real show stoppers. But if you are wanting a very stable ICS build with several additions that function exceptionally well,
Might I suggest trying flappjaxxx IMM76D UCLF6 build #5.
I feel a bit guilty propping any developer or build over another, simply because we have so many highly skilled developers here, but I must say that after trying every available build for the note that we currently have, the flappjaxxx build is my top pick.
And all of his work comes highly recommended, if I'm asked what I prefer .....g
I'm going to put on my flame retardant suit and wade into the brimstone here and ask why not use the stock ICS ROM and root it. I haven't really seen anything in the various cooked ROMS that makes me want to switch over. THIS IS IN NO WAY A DIG AT ANY DEVELOPER.
I find the stock ICS to really fly and almost anything I need to add I can either find in the Market or here on XDA.
I am waiting for the Note 2 apps to get ported over, but other than that, I am really happy with the stock ROM. It has pretty good battery life and I don't see any real hard evidence that any other ROM has better battery life.
Anyone care to chime in and let me know specifically what I am missing in the cooked ROMs?
Just go stock ICS
Burp
I had a really good, stable stock ICS build. GPS was even great.
On a whim, I flashed BlackStar V, then BlackStar VI. I haven't looked back.:good:
Stock is fine, if you want the bloat, and the lack of kernel enhancements that the devs cook in....
You are obviously going to be fine either way.....g

Freeze the bloat with Titanium backup. What are the kernel enhancements. Not challenging you, but asking because I don't know what they are.

+1 !!!
for all the JB bugs... I would like to stay on ICS, but at the same time I love the paranoid android features ( especially the latest version 2.11 )
so DEV... can we mix the 2 ??

if it come in a CWM flash-able zip ... all you have to do is open it with WINRAR and go to "system/app" and remove the bloat(s) BEFORE you flash it
No rom is perfect. Stock or not. The best you can do in terms of custom are rom built on released firmwares. They will have the least problems. When porting or trying to build something that the manufacturer hasn't released the drivers for problems arise. At this point close to stock ICS is your best bet but you don't get the fun of paranoid or liquid or countless others. I find bleeding edge software fun. Bleeding edge hardware is another thing. Good luck.
I would recomend using a de-bloated ICS rom. As mentioned, the flappjaxxx ROMs are really good. Personally I was unhappy with all the JB roms I had tried and was using CM9 as my DD.
Just last night I tried both the current Slimbean and Liquid(both with the flappjaxxx JB kernel) and I was pleasantly suprised. It was night and day from when I tried them both less than a week ago. Right now I'm using Slimbean and it's working great for my uses. But as you mentioned Gmusic is broke(I use poweramp).
I still have a backup of my CM9, in case I run into any major showstoppers.
I'd recomend checking back fairly often as these JB roms are pretty early in development but getting better at a pretty rapid rate.

A few of the major changes that are made to kernels, prior to our getting them, are init.d support, CIFS support, Boot anim. support, OC/UV support, and GPU support.....just to name a few.
There are several others, but my brain has a difficult time getting past the ones I just mentioned...LOL....g

The ROM I always jump back to, is King Kang. It is AOKP with paranoid android features. Per app dpi works great and I haven't had any issues with it.

Man, if ya want perftect stay stock, there are always going to be issues with ROMs, Christ there are issues with stock.
As well just to add, the JB ROMs have come a long way in a short time people should stop whining so much.
I've noticed a lot of ROM users outside the US or users with extra phones who enjoy building ROMs as a hobby. I, myself, have one phone and like to check out the ROMs and their updates. (Props to all the builders!) My main problem is that I always find hiccups or small issues with certain roms which always take me back to the stock ROM. So when someone says 'awesome ROM!!! But these problems exist' , I'm just curious if anyone actually sticks with the ROM with the problems or do users actually flip flop back and forth from stock to custom rom? I've installed safe strap and tend to flipflop, but It seems to cause problems with my stock ROM (games, camera, HD dock, sound, video, etc). there always seems to be problems. I'm guessing sooner or later one of these ROMs will be superior and have all the kinks worked out. Lol.
How do you work your phone(s) and preferences???

Use a rom that is based on the jelly bean update. Like JellyWiz, Rage Rom etc. Most of them are stable.
For my , stock ROM remains untouched and I play with other custom rom
It's nice to discovery new things and new options on your phone.

I do like testing new ROM's as they roll out but eventually I chose one which is quite stable(for me) with the necessary stuff working(and follow the updates) and stick with it as daily usage one. I've used few phones and I never used my stock ROM in either of those.
I'm currently enjoying the latest CM10.1 nightly with no real issues. You can tally me as a "sticks with rom despite bugs" person. For some reason I enjoy going nightly to nightly to see the progress and fixes as they happen

Forgot to mention: Having Safestrap ready to revert to stock in a pinch is a necessary safety net for us "nightly junkies"
Okay so right now i am using a cm12 rom that has slight bugs but overall its pretty decent. What i have been thinking about is going back to the stock rom of android 5.0 or 5.0.2 what ever it is and just unbloating it. What do you guys think i should do? I am running ls990 btw
Thanks
If you want stock debloated, i think a good place to start is bare pop zv8. I was running a cmbase rom and came back to stock. The big thing for me is i have to have tether. So got that mod working on stock. I should have went bare pop because it has everything i want minus the crap but...

Is it stable? Does google maps work? lol i have yet to find any cm12 with a working google maps even on my old device
I ran it for a while but am not currently. I think everything worked, stable. Check out the thread and see what people are saying/having ussues with. I thought was great rom. Stock minus the crapware but left what i like. I think wifi calling, quick remote were left i like and use both occasionally. I was able to get all apps on my custom rom except wifi calling. I came back to stock because i wanted wifi calling. If you want stock debloat bare pop is great. If not agreeable with you, you can always flash stock.
