Well I just bought a Note 2 yesterday and I'm ready to root it. There are a couple of questions I need help with if anyone is willing:
1.
Was wondering what is the best rom that is out. For now I actually like the stock rom that is on the phone now. I just came from owning a S3 and had it rooted, and was running Eclipse Rom, and Paranoidandroid. Liked them both but when I flashed the roms my cell signal went to crap. was really annoying. So i just want to be able to run a Rom that is pretty much stock.
2.
I wanted to run diffrent apps in my multitask window, like netflix, hbo go, etc. Was looking at this thread and didnt really understand what rom I can run to be able to use this tweak.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961314
I'm not a computer genius but I do know how to Root my phone and flash roms, just wanted to make sure I flash a stable ROM and wondering how to get this multitasking tweak on my phone.
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks
Jelly Beans or CleanROM are the most popular TW based ROMs right now. They are both based on stock (so they are stable) and I think both have the Multitasking mod you are looking for.

Thank you I'll have to check them out.
Will I have to flash anything so my cell signal isnt effected or should it be good to go with one of those rom's.
Should be good to go. Make sure you follow the installation instructions.

Also a long time eclipse user here as well. We ade working on getting a device to nitro to bring eclipse to this device.
With that said I have only had the phone a couple of days but I unlocked and rooted and flashed CleanROM 3.5 and have to say I am very happy with it. Everything seems to work great. No gps issues here that I see some report.

No issues with GPS here on Jelly Beans build 4. Pretty much an instant lock.
Kinda curious is it just as good to root my phone with the one click root or do I really have to do the Odin thing. Also just to be sure after I do the root can I just use the EZ-Unlock app in googler play to unlock bootloader

What about CleanRom,a ny issue with GPS
Also which is better out of the 2 Roms
Also kinda curious is this the right way to root my phone or is there some type of updated version just wanna make sure before I start the rooting
You don't have to flash when you root to enjoy the benefits of it. You'll still be able to take advantage of root only features in apps etc. imo it's best in your case to just stay stock if you are happy with it, since that's the most stable. I went through a ton of roms on my Incredible and eventually went back to stock because all of them had some kind of instability. Some crashed every once in a while when you used the camera app and the phone restarted (which took like 5 minutes and made me miss out on photos), a couple others dropped 3G randomly and never got it back until you restarted the phone, etc. If there's nothing that makes a rom seem much better than stock for you, just stay stock.

There's a security hole that leaves specific Exynos devices vulnerable to malicious apps because any app can gain root access without permission. Which is good... and bad. In this case... the apk can root your device and fix the security hole.
Use that if you don't want to unlock and just want to mod the multiwindow. If you want to unlock the bootloader as well so you can flash custom ROMs, use Adam Outler's method to root and unlock here
Adams procedure on unlock and root worked flawless for me and took less than 5 minutes.
And the whole stock rom is best and every other rom has bugs. Well you have ran eclipse before so you know that is not true. These great devs put in a lot of hard work to make these devices even better than what they are stock. Isnt that the whole point of getting an android? I have yet to find a bug yet with this cleanrom 3.5

I totally agree without these devs none of this would be possible. Kinda curious with this .APK root can you flash roms, and if I want to unlock bootloader would I just download the EZ-UNLOCK from the Google Play Store after I root.

You can only flash ROMs when you unlock the bootloader.
If you want to do this you would follow the guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2043636
The files needed, written instructions, and even a video guide are included in the first post.

So what is EZ-Unlock app in Google play store
What's the ROM closest to Stock Touchwiz, that's rooted with an unlocked bootloader?
I haven't accepted the OTA yet, but the window popping up every few minutes is starting to drive me a little bit nuts. I wasn't quite ready to root/rom my phone but i guess I am now. An unlocked bootloader's more important to me than my lazyness. =P
I just really like Touchwiz, and don't want to loose any Samsung functionality.
And do any Touchwiz ROMs have OTAs disabled? Or if they don't, what's the easiest way to go about that?
Both cleanROM and Beans are touchwiz based so you will retain the TW features, most notably s-pen. I have flashed both but ended up sticking with beans build 6 as it had a couple of features I wanted (call blocking and the other carrier apns added in). Both are solid...can't go wrong either way. As for the OTA notification, I can only speak to beans, as I was on that when the update came out. The notitification is definitely blocked.

I may be wrong, but I think you can stay COMPLETELY stock {rooted} as long as you don't keep the stock recovery.
Just unlock, and if you have CWM or TWRP installed, the OTA will fail everytime, and eventually stop nagging you.
That having been said, Bean's is so much better than stock, all TW works, with all of the benefits of Beans...
Yup stock rom rooted thats what I use same as from the store but rooted I like it I used to flash like every other day lately just been usen stock roted on my phones were everything works fine dont get me wrong I love the options of custom rom but theres alot of little thing here and there that might not work ya know
There is a ROM made by scrosler that is stock, has the latest OTA and is rooted. Just check under the Android Development section. He also makes the CleanROM builds.
Check Cleanrom verizon edition. Im running it and work perfect for me.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
As mentioned both Beans and CleanROM are very close to stock, rock solid, and great features.
CleanROM has all the stock TouchWiz UI elements so it looks like right out of the box, Beans uses more of the the JB/ICS elements making it look like a pure android experience.
I have used both and can say they rock, I just like to change things up and am really enjoying Beans currently.
for awhile I had mine on the root injected stock worked like a champ unlocked my bootloader and installed both beans & clean rom.
Like them both, currently running Clean rom because to me it feels closer to stock tw beans had too much of a blue theme for me I like the way the phone looked out of the box as far as performance and features like the above said can't go wrong either way.
thanks guys. this is the beans rom you were talking about, right?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032447
I've been working with Adrynalyne on a very close to stock ROM (probably closest to stock), but we've both been busy, and this OTA just threw another wrench in the works.

Correct, he just had a release today.
I'm pretty down with the HTC One I just recieved yesterday, but the only thing that is bothering me is all this stupid junk AT&T stuck in there. The fact that I cannot tether either is a bit disheartening. I see there are a few ROMS in the developers subforum, but I haven't been able to check them out yet. Do any of those roms fit that description and if so, which one is the LEAST modified?
I've been using Android Revolution HD 6.0 from the international forums. Certain ROMs do work on our AT&T variants. It has basically everything that the standard Sense has, with tweaks. No AT&T bloatware. I've also been getting pretty awesome battery life. You may want to check it out.

If you do decide to try it, make sure to read the entire original post before you do. There is instructions in there about using the volume buttons to select items in the Aroma installer. If you don't, your install may freeze.
I'm hoping we'll be able to flash our AT&T Ones to turn them into the same thing as the Developer Edition that's sold directly by HTC. I've been keeping on eye out for news of this becoming reality but haven't seen anything so far...

if you have an unlocked bootloader its basically the same thing as the dev edition. and once we have S-OFF we will be able to flash official RUU's to the phone
Would the De-odexed ROM allow me to remove the crap AT&T put on the phone? If so, this will probably be the route I'll go, well, as soon as I get my extra dropbox space anyway.

Can't you use the tool kit (in the Android Development section) to root and uninstall via Titanium? I've always done that with stock roms in the past.

Nope the System partition is write protected, so once you reboot all the crap comes back.
+1 for ARHD 7.0, running flawlessly. I'm totally new to Android and flashing ROMs, the ARHD dev and the threads over in the international forum make the whole process easy to learn. I played with the phone for about 2 hours before I became completely fed up with the AT&T claws dug into every aspect of the software, coming from an iPhone I had not realized how bad the bloatware problem has become.

Yeah, what really got me was that even after a day or two of using the phone, the AT&T Address book sync message would still pop up. I had already declined it and stopped any syncing to it. Then, to top it off, after I had already been on several long calls using the phone, the CityID message pops up saying that I'm now in a trial period? It made me decide to go ARHD without a regret. De-bloated, stable, and battery is great for me.
Also went with ARHD. Working wonderfully so far.
Everyone can flash Int'l ROMs with no trouble. ARHD is a great ROM with a great Dev. Give it a try. A make sure you read before you start complaining about LTE signal strength.. The official ATT ROMs fake your signal to make it look better than it is. The Int'l ROMs are the actual strength.

Thanks for the tid bit!! I'm thinking about this ROM as well. The only thing I really need though is Wifi Tethering. Do you know if it can do it without paying AT&T for it? I'm sure some ROMS will have it soon enough. I would even use FOXFI if it would work.
With the ONE I just can't seem to get around AT&T. I'm in the ball park like many others who think tethering should be free. I get the whole "you are paying just for your phone service" and not your laptop or ipad and such; I just don't agree with it, so won't ever pay for it. I'll pay for MP3's, I'll pay for Apps, I just don't think I should line AT&T's pockets for something I already pay for "DATA".
Ok Rant Over. I got out of control there. I apologize.

With ARHD you can turn on Mobile Hotspot and everything I just don't know if ATT will pick up if you're using it. I know with CM, I've used tethering and ATT never said a thing to me. So I'm guessing use it till they send you something.

I posted a ATT Wifi hotspot mod in the dev section yesterday for stock/rooted (deodexed or odexed)
Also - I may be off base, but as far as debloating is concerned, we should be able to do this with an updater script in a recovery flashable package where it's just deleting the packages we don't want. As long as it's done in recovery it should stick on reboot. If we want to start a list of what should be removed, I can put a script together to remove them via recovery and we'll see how it works. (Edit - Working on it now)
Edit: well it removed them from /system/apps, but a few are still showing installed. Guess we'll have to get rid of the data they've created as well? Still playing... either way i managed to get these out of /system/app/:
ATT Device Help, Address Book Sync, Amazon Kindle, CityID, Drive Mode, Family Map, Hot Spot (ATT's), Locker, Messages (ATT's), myATT, navigator (ATTs), Promo Widget, Ready2go, SmartWifi, YPmobile
Sill playing..
Edit: Almost there...
Running Renovate on my AT&T HTC One and it is great. You guys should check it out. Clean rom with AT&T bloat removed, great battery, and some great tweaks.

Here it is. A flashable package that will remove all the ATT bloat described above. Let me know if anyone runs into any issues, or see anything that's not getting removed that should be. I recommend wiping cache and dalvik after flashing.
Im running stock Odexed AT&T rom from JMZ found in development section with Thoravukks Kernel from international HTC one found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2229300 which allowed me to delete all of AT&Ts bloatware from the rom since the kernel Naw read and write. Plus Modaccos xposed framework which allowed me to remap the menu button to the back button by long pressing it. And let me say its running beautifully. No issues at all everything works. Plus i get to keep my AT&T signal icons which i prefer.

Yes. This can absolutely be fixed by flashing a different kernel. This is for those who prefer a fully stock experience, minus the bloat.

And no bloat returns after 2 reboots.

You're not the only one. I've been searching daily and trying different things to see if I could get it to kick in. I tried tricks that people have posted but I'm just like you. Bump.
I have the Galaxy S3 T999, stock, not rooted, Jelly Bean 4.3, Google search 3.5+, Play services 5+. Audio History is on. I've tried searching OK Google Everywhere and Unleash the Google. I factory reset my phone, and didn't use any data restore programs at all. Play services auto updated, and I updated my Google Search app. STILL no luck. Re-searched the OK Google Everywhere and the Unleash the Google phrases.
Nothing doing. Can somebody help us figure out what's going on?
And here I thought it was just me... I'm glad I found this thread. I was able to get it to work on my stock N7 with 4.4 but can't on my stock Galaxy S4 or stock Galaxy Tab 2 7", both running 4.3...
It's pretty disappointing. I checked a friend's phone who has the same exact phone and software as me but she has the OK Google everywhere option. Oh well I'll sit here and cry with you guys until something magically changes.
Fortunately for me I FINALLY have this activated. Turns out that the problem for me personally was due to the ROM that I am running. I'm rooted so if anyone here is I would advise you to check out this link because it fixed it for me right way. Good luck everyone.

I've just tried it myself, switching back to stock 4.3 after archiport 4.4 beta was getting unstable. Unfortunately this method didn't work, and I think it's a 4.3 thing. Bugger that, as if really use this feature, but am not quite prepared to get a new phone yet. There is an xposed module to get this kinda working, but again just for 4.4.

My wife is on stock 4.3 and she doesn't have the feature either so you could be right. I wish you the best of luck because I truly feel your frustration. If it makes you feel any better though now that I actually have it I only use it to goof around and that's becoming less and less. My family is sick and tired of me saying "Ok Google" every 10 minutes.

So i looking through all the roms and call me old school but its either cm completey stock. I was looking for a rom thats all debloated no sprint bloatware but still on the current radio. Something with the hotspot even if i have to add it in. Im not looking for something that im going to have to update everyday but something thatvis usable and works with no bugs. What is best out there and what am i going to need. Already rooted and recovery. I am coming from a lg g2 and coming from that seems like there is a lot to still be desired rom wise
