I'd like a widget for my home screen that would allow me to quickly and easily write notes to myself. Something like one of the post it note widgets, but designed to have handwriting on it not typed text.
Anyone know of such an item?

I'm looking for this too. Ideally I'd like a widget that could be full screen and you could flick the pages just like a field notes and just keep a running notebook of ideas. Maybe within the app itself create different notebooks and such. There are plenty of apps that recognize the S pen, but I haven't found widgets that allow writing within them.

That would be perfect. A digital field notebook with chapters.
Someone make it, I'll happily but it from the market.

I just found one on the market called LectureNotes, not the most intuitive to get set up, but seems to do what I wanted.
More widget functionality would be nice, perhaps a message to the dev when I get a moment.

If you use TSF shell launcher, they have a post-it widget you can download as well. When you tap on the post-it you can handwrite your note. That would be the closest to what you're looking for I believe.

Which opens an editor directly
Even a setting for active input device so my hand doesn't work on the screen while writing, which is more useful than I expected.
Worth trying out.

Hello,
I have the ATT Galaxy Note and would like to use it as my pager via text messaging, which I did with my prior iPhone. I would like to have the text messages appear on the lock screen (or unlocked screen if that is the only thing possible) until I view them so I don't have to unlock the phone and drill down into the apps when I am paged at 2am and half asleep. Is this possible?
Thank you.
You can use SMS pro and enable quick reply on it.

Handcart SMS works awesome for this. You can reply right from the lock screen.

^^ I think he meant Handcent, auto correct can be a cruel thing at times. I use handcent and its awesome, does just as you say, but have heard great things about goSMS too.

I use widget locker as my lock screen then add go sms widget to it. Has a nice transparent theme too. Works really well.
I decided to try Go SMS Pro and it does just what I need it to do.
Thank you to all for your great and helpful responses. Very much appreciated.
That is the one I use, works quite well.

The exact app for your need is called Iphone Notifications from the market. When my wife moved from the iphone to the Skyrocket, that's the only app that saved the day. There is a free version but the paid version would display the actual message on the lockscreen. It works with Widgetlocker also.
SMS pop up is included with saurom and it has exactly what you need, whenever you get a text a window pops up and asks if you want to reply or close the window etc

Hi there,
I just bought my samsung galaxy S3 and installed the Apex launcher. The fact is that I've seen that below the dock there could be some options of widgets I believe. I 'm trying to find in settings how to add them and nothing. I don't even know the name of those apps. Could anybody let me know how to enable them? .
Thank you

The dock will only show 1x1 widgets I believe. Like a mail widget that is an icon that shows unread messages for example. or like the icon widget in handcent that shows how many unread text messages you have. You add it to your homescreen and you should then be able to drag it to the dock.
Thank you for your reply, however, what I actually meant is below the dock. I am attaching you a picture so you can take a look. It's like the dock goes up a little bit and then below you have 3 options. Any ideas?

Yes, they are on screen buttons, not a dock, you cant add widgets there. If you have the GS3 it looks like you're running AOKP maybe and enabled the onscreen navigation. However, with AOKP you can create more buttons on the nav bar to open up certain apps, or perform certain functions. for that you go to settings, rom control and then navigation. Then you will see you can add more custom nav buttons

Hello fellow note 2 owners. I noticed that some non-samsung and non-google apps such as facebook and twitter appear in the multiwindow list. Did anyone find any other third party apps working there as well ?

Two apps that I use fairly often: MX Player and Reddit News, were updated recently to support multi-window.

I'll be sure to add Glovebox (and Relaunch, mentioned by one of your viewers) soon to my launcher page, when I get around to updating it.

I was considering shelling out £600 for the Tab S3 but remembering from my old Note 4 that the Direct Pen input method stopped working about a year ago I thought I'd check whether Samsung had addressed this on their premium note taking device.
No.
I can't believe that the 2 top apps for note taking and management can't be used with an S-Pen, this is crazy.
I don't believe this to be a strange use case, there must be others who want to write their notes onto the screen and have that turned into text WITHIN their note app of choice. I'd be happy to use either, but neither works. Evernote told me it was to do with adopting Chrome as the input editor, is there any way around this? Otherwise there is little point in having an S-Pen.

Direct Pen input works with no problem here. Is it only not compatible with the 2 apps you mentioned?

You can use the S-pen in the keyboard and have that convert to text in any app you use. As for converting sketched letters to typed words it would be the app not Samsung to blame.
BTW, for OneNote, the "workaround" is to turn off auto switch to ink mode on stylus hover in settings for getting the keyboard To show up when using the S-Pen.
