Rooting Galaxy Player 4.2 - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

I just got a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 for Christmas, and it's a lot better than my iPod Touch. I've pretty much figured out how everything works, and I've done research on rooting before. I would like to root my device, but there doesn't seem to be clear instructions anywhere. I understand all the risks (I had a jailbroken ipod touch, so I'm fine with the risks that rooting carries).
Can anyone provide me with instructions on how to root my device? I've heard of software like SuperOneClick and Odin, but I'm not sure if any of them work for my device.

Have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1884071, it's all well explained

Cant figure out how to back up
Hello Everyone,
Ive been trying to figure out how to back up my Samsung for the past 4 hours and can not figure it out for the life of me. If anyone could please give me a very noob friendly guide to doing this. The part i mainly don't understand is using Android SDK and no matter what i search i cant find an answer to it.

Root myTouch

Please excuse my noob questions.
I've done a bit of google searching and I've looked on here as well and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. So I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I just ordered a new T-Mobile myTouch (this phone).
I'm looking for info on how to root/hack it. I'm not entirely new to doing this. I changed my HD2 from Windows to Android, so I've got my feet wet in this a little in the past.
Any info available for this phone? Any help would be great.
Thanks!
Have you tried SuperOneClick?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
probably the easiest, and probably most likely way to do this
I rooted my Xperia Play yesterday with it
I actually haven't tried anything yet. I won't have the phone for a few more days (ordered online).
Rooting isn't my only concern. I guess I worded my original post wrong. I would like the option of loading custom roms as well as rooted.
I also like the HTC programs (e-mail app, etc). As far as I know, I will need a Sense build to get all of that. This is the reason I would like to load a custom rom.
As far as SuperOneClick goes, I've tried to use it in the past on other phones. Its success is kind of hit or miss with me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

[Q] Question regarding rooting and roms

Hey guys, as you can see I am new to the whole wide world of android. I have had an iPhone since 2007 and recently dropped my iPhone 4 on the pavement which completely wrecked the screen. I seized the opportunity to buy an android. I got this s2 for 350 on eBay.
Anyway... I have absolutely no idea what I am getting into here. I have watched a ton of videos and still am really lost. (Sadly)
I have this s2 at 4.0.3 and am completely lost when it comes to how to flash a rom. I get we have to use ODIN, Kies and your rom. Am I missing anything else?
I want to use this. galaxys2root. com/att-galaxy-s2/aokp-ics-rom-for-att-galaxy-s2-sgh-i777-best-ics-rom/ << I cannot post links so its just a space in between the .com
I have seen videos where I have to root the thing first- or will this do it for me? I have also seen "roms" that are 400 MB in size but this one I like its 134... Am i missing any files or something? I have done searching but I end up more confused than I started. If someone could give me a push in the right direction that would be a great help!
This is the first phone I am actually confused with... I am sure it is easy, just not for a guy who has had an iPhone and developed for them since then... (I am co founder of whited00r )
Start with the links in the sticky. Be sure to read them all.
You said your phone is already on 4.0.3, which is Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). That means it's not stock (aka factory settings, out of the box, etc). I'd personally suggest after reading all the links, returning to stock and starting over from scratch as it's the best way to ensure you don't have any problems, especially since you don't really know what the previous owner did to your phone. The links for returning to stock and for flashing custom ROMs are also in the sticky. Please don't read just these links, read at least all of the other links posted there. That's just the starting point mind you, you should probably do more reading after that on stuff in the posts that you don't understand. I know this will take a lot of time, but it's for everyone's benefit that you fully understand everything you do to your phone before you do it.
I'll even help you out with a couple other links I think may be useful which aren't in the sticky.
ROM vs. Kernel
Odex vs. Deodex
Please hit my thanks button if I helped you. Good luck and welcome to the forums!

From now on, don't watch any videos. They tend to be incomplete and usually outdated. Also, don't use any files or methods you find anywhere else besides XDA.
Like karate104 said, read the stickies at the top of the forums; they will tell you everything you need to know in detail. Read this one in particular. It has links to a lot of useful guides.
you also need to be wary of what you read and watch on gs2root. com
when i first started i used the rooting technique with the kernel from there and ended up with no wifi and ended up having to flash entropy's daily driver to recover
as the guys above said, read the stickies here and go over it a million times until it makes sense
flashing can open up loads of features, but you can very easily make your phone unusable (easily fixable once not hard bricked) but better avoid the trouble than finding a fix
Another victim on galaxys2root!
Sigh!

New, but willing to do the work. Q re: Root for Gs3 sch-i535

I have never rooted a device before, and have searched and spent many hours reading before deciding to post. I apologize in advance if you feel these questions have been answered. I have watched the new member video and read all the rules for posting. Hopefully, I have not broken any.
To the point:
1)If I root my gs3 ( Verizon carrier) will that allow me to run a similar ROM like the nexus 7?
2) The goal I am trying to accomplish is to have my gs3 run, operate and look like my nexus 7 running 4.2:laugh:
Is this even possible?
Fyi I am a plumber by trade, I like tinkering with things, but have never ventured into cyber/code land before. But after my nexus 7 omg these things are amazing.
Thank you for reading and perhaps responding to my questions

If your phone is a dual core version from the US then you're in the wrong forum mate..You need to go there to get all the help you need. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1708..
But if you have a i9300 or i9305 then you can root your phone using odin and chainfire's CF root then just download any custom rom and enter recovery by pressing Home + Volume up + Power..
When you're done playing you can download a stock rom made for your phone use triangle away to get rid of the counter and go back to the way it came from the factory.. If you've done your research you will know where all the items i just listed is..
But remember if you've a dual core version you need to go to the other thread. You will brick your phone if you use anything from here..

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Mega - sprint/tether hotspot block

Hi all,
So this is my first time posting, but I've read up on many posts. Last week, I found a thread here showing how to tether/hotspot my Nexus 5 without rooting. It involved downloading the most recent Android apk file, opening a dos cmd, changing the tether_dun value to zero, and debugging my N5 afterward. Worked like a charm. However, now I cannot find that threat, and I would really like to have that on hand. I've searched, and googled, and for some reason cannot find it. Soooo if anyone has that link or info on hand, could you please post it here?
Also, I'm trying to do the same thing for my dad's Galaxy Mega. We are on Sprint, and he currently has 4.2.2. I am going to wait for the 4.4 to come out for his phone before doing it, but I would like to give him the same hotspot/tethering capabilities without rooting or installing any apps. Is it the same as for my N5 on Kit Kat? Or is there something else I have to be careful of because of all the Samsung software involved?
Please let me know! I google and searched here for about an hour and kept being redirected to Galaxy S4 threads.

How to root Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge, step-by-step guide for beginner?

I found these threads, https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...overy-twrp-3-1-0-1-samsung-galaxy-j3-t3573607, https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...uide-painless-root-samsung-j3-emerge-t3573551, and https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ide-twrp-magisk-boost-mobile-samsung-t3740646. I am so confused. When I jailbroke my iphone years ago it was all so simple. I am just trying to download to my phone a single root-exclusive app I desperately need.
Those posts are from a year and 2 years ago, I heard using outdated software with your device can cause it to brick so I don't know if it's safe to use these software anymore. Plus both of these threads use so many terms and acronyms that fly over my head. I also read SuperSU was so sold to a foreign company so it's not to be trusted anymore? The third link seems a bit more understandable but it mentions something about stock, which I know is an official Android release or whatever, but why is it telling me to return my phone to stock? If I was following the guide, wouldn't I already have a non-rooted phone? So why is telling me how to revert my stock phone back to stock... Unless I'm misunderstanding something which is highly likely.
Can anyone give me a clear, concise guide to how to go about this? Please help, and thank you.
