[WIP][ThinkTank] 4.2 Building & related Discussion - Xperia Play Android Development

So this thread is to discuss building and working on 4.2.1. AOKP, CM, MIUI, whatever.
championswimmer pointed out that some have already started prepping for 4.2: https://github.com/2011Xperia. And Supervenom has made an early 10.1 port: Alpha CM10.1
I would like this thread to be just for devs, so if it's some other general topic please go make a topic over in the general section
I've cloned and started slim 4.2 but I'm hoping this thread can be another jumping off point / place to squash and fix common bugs. Hopefully I'll have a chance to add some code and progress tmr.

First a common problem may be the camera with the new features with it. Maybe get photosphere working later on. Who knows.

I know you said just for devs but I just have to make this point. The cam seams hard as h*ll to fix I mean panorama don't even work let alone photosphere that's going to be one hard thing to do.
sent from my Sony Ericsson Xperia Play™(r800x) Running Slimbean 3.0 using Tapatalk 2™

I don't think photosphere will ever work due to our limited hardware. And camera shouldn't be that hard to fix since since everyone has made changes to get it working in 4.1.

Here is a logcat that I made off my build which didnt go past the kernel, maybe someone can look at it and explain what's wrong as I'm still a noob at it? Thanks

That has multiple errors ranging from bootclasspath not having any correct entries and the other libraries aren't being loaded.
Speaking of errors my build currently stops here:
Code:
make: *** No rule to make target `/home/andrew/slim4.2/out/target/product/zeusc/obj/SHARED_LIBRARIES/liba2dp_intermediates/export_includes', needed by `/home/andrew/slim4.2/out/target/product/zeusc/obj/SHARED_LIBRARIES/libaudio_intermediates/import_includes'. Stop.
make: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
I found a couple of fixes here
and tried addeding direct paths to goldfish/audio which did not solve it.

Photosphere apparently hasn't been added into source code yet by Google according to a couple devs in sgs3 forum. I'm running AOKP 4.2.1 and photosphere isn't included its just way too buggy

We need a new kernel first before an android version higher than 4.1.x will work good on our device.

yes, I mean, if the kernel 4.2 from wedgess can proceed??

this kernel is 2.6 and its very hard to port newer android versions using this ancient kernel (functional ones)
so we need to port 3.4 kernel first then the new android version

Will it be possible to make wifi calling available as as in 2.2 ? I couldn't find it in 2.3 so I'm hoping 4.0 will bring it back.

I don't much think WiFi calling will be available in ICS. I haven't heard anything of that nature added but aren't there other alternatives on market. So what are the major complications people are facing with porting ICS to our devices

Andy, can u post the URL of the manifest of your sources?.. i m learning to develop android and would be helpful if you provide the URL.
Also how much is the size of the repo of urs? I am using virtualbox and want to decide the size of the virtual hd.
The virtual hdd have to be at least 50GB in its size.
I dont have a manifest.xml because i dont have a full repo nor provide
the full android sources but only modified code.
If you want to start with developmen on android, dont download not working
code, dont download the OS sources - it doesnt makes you happy after/when
compiling - better start with pure simple android apps to understand what is
android, how works android and what do i need to modify sources for my ideas.
if you really want to develop on the OS itself, i recommend to use a working tree
like AOSP Gingerbread or CM7 Gingerbread. ICS is still in early alpha, almost nothing
is working... it brings even nothing to write a lot of posts in development forums,
most developers doesnt spend time in answering "noob" questions, so its better
to learn step by step.

It's very good advice, when I knew ICS was about to be released I downloaded all the CM7 sources to be ready. I looked at Mik's thunderg sources, compared it to some other phones and just went through all of it to see how it works. I have a small notepad in which I wrote down what each file is for, why some things are changed for our phone and 'remade' CM7 for myself.
It means that when I look at the ICS code I still don't understand everything, but my head doesn't immediately explode when trying to work out why it doesn't work

Why don't we move HAL module to a place Camera.apk can reach it? We can mod the camera app to find the module in the directory we put it in. Would it work or no?

GB's libs dont work at 100%, i have tried sereval times, Nexus S and Galaxy S have the same procesor like SGP5, but SGP5 has also similar chips to galaxy note/SGSII.
The first what we have to get is... full specyfication of SGP5, we can send a mail to samsung, or seartch somewhere, if we will get it, we will be able to work effective.

[PATCH] XDM Turbo Kernel Android ICS Camera Fix

Hello again
As you may know Turbo kernel [Multiboot] and "STOCK" Based ICS ROMS breaks the Camera. Well one thing Dan told me it that swapping the drivers form a CM9 based rom should fix the camera, so i did and it indeed worked! so i whipped up a simple patch that will install the Drivers to your ICS ROM on turbo kernel and fix your camera!
Download it ->HERE!<-
Or in attachments below
Thanks to FXP for driver locations :good:
MUST BE FLASHED IN CWM RECOVERY!!!

and Wifi tethering can be resolved by a third party app such as 'WIFI TETHER FOE ROOT USERS'.

what kind of modifications did you made?
why doesn't someone in this forum explain in detail what they did so someone else can make a conscious decision?
NO newer driver was ANY benifit to my fxp216. v3 was even the worst of all. so what's different about this fancy "20-50%-more-smooth-Beast" driver?
edit: this is a development forum. so i guess technical details are relevant.
cannot see an improvement in most wanted.
everything else (real racing 3, dead space, into the dead) was fluid anyway.

Ah that makes totaly sense. Cross compiling drivers that are not open source. Nice try.

well dont worked for me..i added new sonydrivers and after flash this and wipe cache and dalvik cache..horrible lag. maybe better on a fresh install. anyway thanks for your effort..we need a little boost on ICS roms.
Antutu shows some improvement over the Xperia ICS June drivers posted a few days ago. Around a 5-10% better so I'll keep 'em. :good:

Are you refering to the freedreno project ? The sourcecode they developed is FOSS.
The drivers from quallcom are however closed source. They only release binary blobs. That is why I couldnt quite get how to compile them
