[Q] Tweaks? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have been wondering how could I make up init.d scripts for sqlite and vacuuming on boot, for example.
I don't wanna tread on developers feet by taking theirs out of a rom.
I've wanted to stick to a stock rom, and because of this there are really no tweaks included. I'd like to make my own for my own use and have my own preferred tweaks in the init.d folder.
Are there any people, that use their own rom - with init.d support and tweaks, able to recommend any or could share?
Any help/advice is appreciated!

[Q] RAM optimization script question

Hello! I would post this question in the SanGingerAce Lite custom rom thread but I'm not allowed to post there becouse I'm kinda new to the forum.
So, my question is about the V6 supercharger and ram script version4 (GadgetCheck) which are included in the rom. I flashed the rom and managed to make a2sd working and now I'm wondering if I have to enable this script in any way or is it already working just by flashing the rom?
Can you explain how these scripts work? when they start killing apps, how much ram do they clear and so, becouse I recently found out that it is not recommended to kill all apps yourself with taks killer
and final question, can I flash the allinone script on SanGingerAce rom and should it? Will it boost performence?
A lot of questions, I know, but I would be greatful if someone could answer any of there. Thank you very much.

[Q] 14+ Toggle bar

I try to keep my rom as stock as possible, but there are some mods which are very useful, in this case the 14+ toggle from lidroid.
I am on a BULPC stock rom, rooted and deodexed by myself with the script from GanGs_KiD. Now I want to add the mentioned mod, but I am not a developer and do not have a linux environment.
Could someone of the good developers here create an "universal" flashable zip from this mod?
Thank you.

[Q] most ROM's are DeOdexed, but why?

In the ROM's section there are really many many ROM's being released each day, most start as a personal work but then gets published, etc etc, but from what I see, 98% of them are DeOdexed (for now I remember find one Odexed rom for SGS3).
I know the difference between Odex/DeOdex:
- DeOdex: makes apk files easier for modifying and theming.
- Odex (Optimized Dex) are better for memory usage and speed (Hence optimized).
so why do most devs choose to deodex?
I read on a dev blogs sometime ago, that ROM developers should Re-Odex before releasing the ROM, what this is not the case in most ROMs
All devs release ROMs, and start talking about performance and memory usage, optimized etc etc, but leave it DeOdexed, so why not Odex.
(I made my own ROM, based on ELL5, with the few mods i always use, and kept it odexed, and it is working just fine. No immediate plans on releasing it.)
I guess it is because most apks that are modded are fairly easy to get hands on when it is deodexed. For short, everything is easier when deodexed
Most of my users want to change stuff after installing the inital rom. It makes it a lot easier for me if it's deodexed too because I will not get requests to deodex it!
I have been considering odexing the ROM, though, and making it final. I'm undecided.
but in odexed rom's, use can still use some deodexed APKs....
In the stock Samsung roms, in the /system/apps folder there is a bunch on normal apk files without the odex, so in case somebody needs to theme a few system apps, it should be possible, no?
In my ROM, which is based on stock ELL5 odexed Samsung rom, I installed JKay and I have a lot of possibility of theming, which is working just fine.
I also modified a couple of user apps, which has nothing to do with odexing a rom on system level, so... still don't understand why all prefer deodexed..
It's not necessary to deodex all apps. You can deodex only critical apps, to be able to mod them. And surely the right way would be to odex before releasing.

How to optimize custom rom

I have a galaxy s3 and would like to know how to optimize a custom rom I am trying to make for battery consumption and speed. I know I can add a different kernel but is there anything I can do at the rom level? Btw this is my first custom rom and I am just doing it for fun. Any help is appreciated
Thank you
Hey
There are many optimizations, but I researched, just about all of them are present in Pimp my ROM Either you take them from there and include them in your ROM (Take from the aroma version of PMR) and make sure you have permission from the developer, or, your rom users can simply download pimp my rom and modify the rom themselves
As for zipaligning, you can do that via @dsixda's kitchen
