What's up XDA community? I just joined the forums today and thought I would get your opinions on my review of the HTC EVO 3D. Nicely done. Your review fairly well parallels my experience with the device over the past several weeks. I see so many people complain about this or that, but I must be lucky to get one without defects (that I've noticed so far). This phone is definitely an upgrade from the EVO Shift (though I do miss the hardware keyboard).

This is the best phone I own, I really like the speed, feel and look of the phone, people at work also like my phone, since i bought it I have received several nice comments on the phone, and several coworkers have bought one for themselves. Your review is very well done, and bookmarked, thank you for your post.
You claim to have tested Green Hornet, and yet this was posted days before HTC released a fix for HTC Watch allowing the movie to be used....?

Hey wildcat. That is correct. The issue did not impact everyone and while I have no way of proving it to you now, I was able to watch Green Hornet before its release without any problems.
Great review you did. One thing worth a mention is that some of the bloatware is (sort of) uninstable. It still stays on your phone but it takes it out of your app drawer and, I believe, it won't autostart anymore. I'm pretty sure most or all new Sprint phones will be the same here on out.

I would just leave the review the way it is, no need in promoting rumors, no one has s -off so no need in promoting something that no one has.
I agree, decent review. Only thing I disagree on is the camera button. I could have been well implemented, but ends up being a waste of space. maybe they will update the software in the future to improve on the focus response time when using the camera button.

Hello, my name is Korey. I am formally known as Whosdaman or WDM. I started at the HTC Vogue and was a very prestigious developer. I then made the switch to Android with the HTC Hero. After sheer disappointment, I then decided to purchase the Samsung Epic. Again after the lack luster software updates provided by Samsung, I decided to switch manufactures again. I have no purchased my Motorola Photon 4G yet, but I am planning on doing so and publicly developing for this device.
My mentor is Kenneth Pennington which many of you may know. He is one of the top chefs on the Atrix and he and I will be working on rooting with device and hopefully unlocking it.
So tell us who you and and a little about yourselves so we can grow as a community together. We all need to stick together in order to accomplish goals as a whole. I will be providing 24/7 support for anything Sprint related. So if you need anything just let me know, for example MSL lookup.
Let me be the first to say welcome and thank you!
We are looking forward to a healthy community; we all know this device is capable of awesomeness - we just need the right people. I hope to eventually help with testing/whatever I can!

Korey? You'll always be Whosdaman to me. Anyway, glad to see ya here. I left the Epic for the 3D, returned it. Bought a used Evo 4g. It had a broken screen, so I purchased a new screen on Ebay. I googled and found how to videos to replace the touch screen, not that hard on the Evo. But after it was back together, the bottom touch buttons wouldn't work. Took it apart, tried again still wouldn't work, so down to the sprint store I go. I told them the whole story. They were great, said they could fix it, for $35. It was late, had to leave it over night. While I was there, played with the photon. I was really impressed! May see about selling the Evo, and upgrading to the Photon when I pick it up in the morning.

Had the evo 3d rooted and it seems like the only way it can come close to the power of the photon is if an aosp rom was thrown on it. Sense just slowed it down so much.

It's gonna be nice to have 2 pimp ass phone's! Since these come with an unlocked bootloader has anybody tried to root via super oneclick or gingerbread?

OK, Joining the introduction thread.
Name is Tom, in Portland, Oregon. Started on HTC Hero, last phone was Samsung Epic. Not a ROM developer but regularly load the new ROMs on the phones and play with them until I get the one I like for that version, which surprisingly varies on the Epic because the ROMs don't get updated on an even schedule, not that their scheduled. Been a big fan of both ACS & Bonsia, usually using ACS ROMs.
I do have a QE background but have been moved to Database Admin.
Waiting patiently for the first root instructions to come out that work, tried the Atrix & SuperOneClick methods to no avail.

I dumped the Epic today and I'm not the proud owner of a Photon with both docks... Well... OK... my employer is the proud owner, I just get to use it. Going from the Epic to the Photon was a big step for me due to the loss of the physical keyboard but since I realized that 95%+ of the time I never used it I think I can adjust. I thought about waiting for the Within but I think I need a break from Samsung and there are things such as the docks that are more of a plus for me than the ability to record 1080 video. Glad to see you're on board over here. I'm hoping to find time to be more involved over here than I was over in Epicville.

Call sign twospirits, as some may know me from other sites that I mod and admin in. Been a member here since 2007 but mostly in the lurking stance (as you can tell by my post count). And that's mainly because I am not a dev. I'm mainly into reading, writing and learning but having fun doing it.
Started with Sprint since 2000 on Touchpoint/LG phones non-smartphones then eventually with Winmo phones Diamond/Pro then jumped onto Android with the Hero, EVO and now Photon. Learned quite a lot but its a never ending process and the stuff that comes out of here is truly amazing. Amazed at the stuff that quite a few devs and their roms on here have produced like MikG and FreshEVO.
I agree with the OP that we can grow as a community together and need to stick together to accomplish goals. And hopefully this can be accomplished without the flaming and arguing shown elsewhere. Being that this section is brand new, maybe we can keep it flame free. I for one will be using that report button alot if it isn't.

I got one. I hadn't heard about all of those devs getting them tho.....that's awesome. I hope we can get some real mods happening on webOS now. I'm hoping viperboy is still going to get a Transformer tho, then he will be deving on all 3 of my devices.
I'm also hoping google is looking into buying webOS. Could you imagine how sick it would be to have cards and widgets on the same homescreens? Also to have the functionality of Android with the sleekness and eye candy of webOS.

That would be awesome but I'm sure if google buys them they wouldn't support webos just integrate it to android and I'm sure the android devs who bought it so they can dev for it once android gets ported to it i doubt they will dev for webos. I tried my hardest to get one..what a good buy..and the reviews on it seemed positive...they sold out quick and I couldn't get one ..ppl were buying 4-5 of them...I wish I found out earlier on Saturday
Yeah me too, haven't been able to get one.
I got one, gingerbread is more realistic at this point honeycomb isn't open source yet so it will be way harder to get working if it does happen.
But I am up for it, I would rather see the dalvik ported so I can still run webOS

Well, it's not so much that these people bought them from a store, but rather they were either part of the Dev team(testers) or reviewers. A lot of times the manufacturer doesn't ask for them back so these people will either keep them or sell them.
You'll sometimes find people in the market place here selling them or on Ebay.
Oh ok. Well if anybody is selling one, I'd like to buy it.

Go to the Marketplace here & browse the for sale ads and/or post an ad that you want to buy one there. Oddly though, one of my Thunderbolts i had gotten from Ebay. The listing didn't even say it was a dev phone but when i received it and found out i was like "cool!"
While we're waiting for our phones, I thought I would start a thread where we could just talk without worrying about going off-topic. If you want to talk about how other phones compare to the Evo, rant about rotten fruit and the vegetables that use them, etc, than this is the place.
Just please remember that all of the forum rules still apply here though.

saw it. watch them all here every week. What I thought was funnier was the phone they were using in the Speed social media center(social garage) was the Samsung Epic 4G Touch...least thats what it looked like when R. Wood was showing off the Nascar app....Found it real interesting they didn't give him an EVOLTE to use....esp if they had a ton of signage for it...

Yes I did and yes it was everywhere. Last year they were showing off the EVO 3d to all the drivers and even the announcers had them. its also in the best buy ad this morning. I bet a lot of people go there and are pissed when its not

I've been having problems with my OG Evo for like a month now. I didn't know about the charge dock problems even though I'm always here flashing new roms. I was anxiously waiting for the new one and then all of this happened. For a while, I was seriously considering cancelling my order but then I realized that that would be a win for Apple and I could not contribute to their gain. I decided to wait patiently for my phone.
In terms of the patent I think its BS, and this is coming from a software engineer. I don't want to go deep into that discussion but working with code is a whole different ballgame.
In terms of the whole GS3 vs. EvoLTE vs. iPhone5 thing, I think both the GS3 and the EvoLTE are good phones. I don't know much about the iphone5 specs yet. What I can say is that apple products are not that unarguably better overall for them to have so much money and crazy fanboys right now.
The best apple product was the iPod by far. It revolutionized the industry. Everything else from there has come off branding. You can argue about the OG iPhone and iPad being nice too but that feels like a century ago. Like I said, everything else is marketing. Its funny people buying expensive macs just to log in to facebook and serious customers run parallel half of the time to use windows programs.
Right now, we have competition and we have android developers working their a** off to get a small share of the pie and that's why I can't cancel my order. After I read this, I was shocked by how this blind fanaticism is hurting the industry around the world. I don't wanna be a part of that. Like I said, some Apple products are great, but they are not unarguably so ahead of the curve for them to be squashing everyone that easy. My two cents...
