[Q] How to remove CM10.1 - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently running slim rom's 4.2.1 JB rom for my vibrant. I want to get rid of JB because i've suffered way too much under the mediaserver battery drain. I'm trying to to go back to the stock but i can't because everytime i try to reboot my phone in Download mode, it takes me back to the CWM recovery option instead of the yellow android digger sign. I can't enable usb debugging because that option is NOT AVAILABLE anywhere on my phone with slim rom. What do i do? i can't stand my battery lasting only 5 hours again.

There's a Search Button to the Upper Right Side of Your Screen
Read this OP carefully then reread it and hopefully it resolves your issue oops here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990

First: JB does not support reboot to Download mode. You have to shut it down and use the finger combo to boot to Download
Second: In you JB ROM goto Settings > About Phone > Tap "Build number" about 5 or 6 times. This will enable developer mode in settings and will let you turn debugging on.
Have fun

Thats not a thread thats just a link by someone whos not the dev who made the rom. people can modify roms as they like. like in villainrom there are lite versions which means no samsung crap. but vr tweaks would not workon the lite version because the original dev has nothing to do with those versions. the meaning dont downlpad anything if its not from the original dev himself. now try and get into recovery and reset your phone. Let me know how you get on
the link i gave above was referred to by the original dev in the following thread:

anyway, i went into recovery and rebooted the phone. it seems ok now. i now noticed that when pressing the switch of button, among the options - silent mode, power off, flight mode etc., there is a new option i didnt have before installing the new rom - "download". maybe i accidently pressed it that time. what does that option stand for ?

Boot from Webos to CM ?

I might not have got enough sleep last night, so please excuse me if I missed this out right in the how to.. but I was up to 5 am last night putting Preware on my HP Touchpad and CM 2.1. The installing of Apps and playing in both ensued into the wee hours..
In my excitment I woke the wife.. and not thinking straight I thought I could get to the CWM via the same method as I used to building it. I pressed Vol Up and Power and it went back to USB bootie mode, and I couldnt get it out of that mode.. eventually I just reran the Acme installer. thewife went back to bed unimpressed.
So here is my question, I know how to boot from CM how via reboot into recovery mode, and then I can choose to boot to WebOS or CM. But from WebOS, how do I boot into Android? Or how do boot back into the Clock work menu so I can choose again ?
Thanks,
SorrowsTyr
.
There is an application in Preware called Cyboot that allows for what you want.
Or
You can install the patch that adds new buttons to the drop down power menu
Or
You can go to "Device Info" > "Reset Options" > Reboot
Yes! That us exactly what I want. Installed cyboot and Adv. Reset Options.
Thanjs!

sorry for hijacking the thread,
but if i am stuck on the white usb screen, how do i get out of it?
Like for my phone, if i am in download mode i just take out the battery and restart my phone...but i dont we can remove battery in the Touchpad....
If you followed the instructions in the Dev section you should have installed Moboot, which give you the option to choose your OS when booting/rebooting.

No Display on phone Sleep of Death

My samsung vibrant running 4.0.4 ICS zenwich 1.8.4 randomly shut off today, not even able to turn on, it was the Sleep of Death I have got before, so i pulled battery and reboot, still nothing.
The phone now boots, but their is no display
The phone will literally turn on, have the 4 buttons light up on the bottom, have the screen be responsive to touches, but the physical display is off
I can unlock my phone by swiping, hear the volume up sound, even dial calls by blind touching. It is the same idea as a PC that is plugged in, just so VGA cable to the monitor.
I have tried rebooting to recovery, download mode and tried to heimdall, but it never finds my device, i tried to sdk in and reboot to download mode via cmd prompt but no luck finding device too
I am all out of ideas and nothing is seems to be working
Any advice on resolving this issue would be appreciated

You may've gotten into recovery, I can't really get into download mode like that. Try this:
Unplug USB & remove battery
Insert battery but do not power on.
Hold VOL-UP + VOL-DOWN
Insert USB and wait a few seconds, while still holding them

Ok that works, I'm defineatly in download mode, the device shows up in ODIN, but not heimdall. I am not familiar with ODIN, how would I go about flashing the ICS zen rom? I found a tutorial to flash back to stock ROM and wipe all data, but I would like to be able to just reflash the ICS rom

Ok, so it shows the download mode on the screen of the phone?
If so, that's good news and means your screen is not shot.
Try to get Heimdall to work. Are you in windows? Then you'll need to uninstall the samsung drivers and do this (from CM update guide):
CM update guide said:
1. Run the included zadig.exe in the drivers folder of the Heimdall Suite.
2. From the menu, choose Options » List All Devices.
3. From the drop down, select Samsung USB Composite Device or Gadget Serial.
4. Click Install Driver.
NOTE: A prompt may appear warning that the installer is unable to verify the publisher of the driver. Ignore it and select "Install this driver anyway."
5. Heimdall can now be used safely on the Windows computer.

Once heimdall is running, try grabbing the boot.img out of the zen zip and do this:
Code:
heimdall flash --kernel boot.img
See if anything comes of that.
The screen never turned on.. it just went into download mode and i was able to see from ODIN that it was recognized. So i ODIN'd back to stock rom, i heard the phone reboot, but still no display.
Like before the phone's screen is 100% responsive, i can unlock the phone, hear the usb plugging in noise, just no display. It just blows my mind because the screen works but its not on.. I am very confused

That's not good. Your phone might be done for then. I once repartitioned with no partition files and still download mode worked on a fresh battery pull.
Maybe try leaving the battery out for a while and see if it fixes itself, since it seems to be an electronics problem, maybe something needs time to reset or something.

it's a good thing my contract is up I think I am going to get the samsung galaxy s 3..
RIP vibrant best phone i ever had, I'm surprised it lasted this long with all the mods I had done to it haha
my xt890 lcd screen and digitizer were broken so i changed them and the phone was working fine for a week, i then wanted to update to kitkat through oem update; everytime i tried it would give me error . i then read that since i unlocked bootloader and rooted my phone and installed cwm recovery i couldnt do an oem update and i had to do a factory reset in order to update through oem, so i did just that ; after the phone finished factory reset and booted i proceeded with oem update while the phone was charging, everything was going fine the file was downloading, i went to the bathroom and came back the display was black, but touch screen was working fine...through more searching i read that this could be from the update, and i should do another reset... since i couldnt see anything even recovery menu. i downloaded moborobo so i can see my screen on pc and proceeded to factory reset ... now i cant even see through moborobo and im stuck. i think im stuck in recovery screen, but no way to be sure , hence i cant get usb debug. Please help.

S3 stuck in safe mode

My galaxy s3 has been stuck in safe mode for two days now which is frustrating as only the stock apps can be used. I have tried different solutions, which I list below.
How it happened.
I was initially on 4.1.1 and when I woke up I saw a notification to upgrade to 4.1.2, after that it did its thing and rebooted into safe mode.
solutions tried
1. Reboot - didnt work
2. take out battery for few minutes and reboot - didnt work
3. boot into stock recovery to try to factory reset phone, Volume button not working so cant select other option apart from reboot. - didnt work
4. Download stock rom from samfirmware and flash using odin - didnt work
5. Flash CWM using odin, didnt factory reset and flashed custom rom (omega). It boots into safe mode as well
6. Downloaded stock ics firmware, flashed using odin . it boots but stuck on samsung logo.
I dont know what else to do. Although am thinking downgrade the bootloader to one meant for ICS the try to flash to ICS stock rom again, would try this later in the day.
p.s Ignore more signature I own a galaxy s3 as well.
Switch off your phone..
Press the power button..
Once you see the logo screen press and hold the left capacitive button..

It's Volume button work fine??
The problem has nothing to do with reboot. As you can see have already mentioned reboot as part of the solutions I tried.
My device is fine with ICS firmwares but has issues with Jellybean (stock and modded rom including CM10.1). Currently am running ICS on it as thats the only way the phone works properly.
I installed 4.0.4 (XAALF2) via Odin, but it got stuck on samsung logo. Then turned it off and flashed CWM to do factory reset as the volume key doesnt work on stock recovery. After that everything worked fine. I was able to update to the latest 4.0.4 via OTA.
The problem is hardware, so you might want to contact Samsung.
I found some information about "Safe Mode".
It seems that every Android phone has a safemode.
"On Samsung’s devices, almost all users will be able to access Safe Mode with by pressing and holding the menu button during start up. If it’s a capacitive menu key, make sure to release and press again each time the LED under the key comes back on. You don’t want to miss the catch for Safe Mode because the button released itself."
Here is the link where i get the information: http://www.tested.com/tech/android/...ds-safe-mode-to-save-a-phone-from-boot-loops/
You can try it this way, maybe it will work.
Good luck.

I think u missing the point, the phone works fine with 4.0.4 firrmwares, it only get stuck in safe mode when updated to Jellybean 4.1.1 and above. No amount of key combination, factory reset or even custom rom was able to fix the safe boot.
The best option is to send it back to samsung, its definitely hardware issue.

i did a reboot and it removed the safe mode :good:
My personal experience, i overclocked my SGS3 with Boeffla kernel on ARHD then i got freeze screen and phone reebot into safe mode, I entered into recovery and reebot then everithing was fine again.
Safe mode occurs when something in the phone is not working properly , could be hardware or software, however, stuck on it is not a good signal.
my advice is to send the device to service.
Do not forget to reset flash counter via Triangle Away and flash stock factory firmware.
Good Luck! :good:
note 3 stuck in save mode window
This problem occurs after changing to a new simcard not already installed before in the device.
1. Power off the galaxy note 3.
2. Remove the micro simcard from the slot by sliding.
3. Power on the device without the simcard.
4. It will run in a normal mode, if so, this will actually diagnosed that there is a simcard defined by the administrator as default. In the security setting in setting menu and for protection against theft, the original simcard must be insert to unlock this choice of detection of any change in new simcard. New simcard is defined as strange and theft suspected.
I hope this make you reach some solution for your trouble.

Same issue here, it is hardware
I went through a lot of threads and not one had a solution. So I will post here what worked for me.
Customer came to my store with Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710T) that was stuck in safe mode. I tried everything on this thread, nothing worked. Luckily I had a older Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) with a broken screen, so I switched over the motherboard from the customer's phone to the old one - I did connect the customer's original LCD to the motherboard since my old phone had its LCD broken. Powered it on, no safe mode.
So at this point I just transferred the volume buttons flex cable to the customer's phone. Powered it on, no safe mode again.
Hope it helps someone!

[Q] Correct way to root from 4.4.2 NC5?

I've been seeing different posts on how to root the Note 3 from 4.4.2 but all them haven't been updated since February it seems...can anyone direct me to a post on how to root from stock 4.4.2 NC5? Just afraid of messing up. Only ever rooted my EVO 3D.
You go here:
http://developer.samsung.com/android/tools-sdks/Samsung-Andorid-USB-Driver-for-Windows
download and install those or install Kies 3 up to you.
then download these:
http://download.chainfire.eu/362/CF-Root1/CF-Auto-Root-hltespr-hltespr-smn900p.zip?retrieve_file=1
http://108.166.171.34/goodata/devs/...mg.tar?st=syUP0i4Y0IvF-fzHGzC_tw&e=1400167930
On the phone enable USB Debugging if you haven't, Go to settings then about phone then keep tapping build until it says unlocked then go back one menu go into developer options and enable usb debug. After that is done, power phone off. Hold home button & the vol down then press and hold power button while still holding those two down. They hit vol up at the prompt.
Make sure your phone is on usb to the pc before you go into download mode after you enable debug. once that is done you will unzip the auto root flash zip and open odin you should see the phone in the com port as detected. Check the pda box then click PDA and select the md5 file in the same folder, then hit start.
Let the phone reboot and finish its upgrade then put it back into download mode again, re-open odin and install the open recovery tar file in PDA too. Now you have the latest TWRP for 4.4 and can flash custom roms. for that you use same method as getting into download mode but you hit vol up not vol down
This worked for me, I just did it last weekend. no need to Kies and it takes like 5 minutes total.

All kies does is alternative driver installer if you ever want to use it, which I honestly only use for texts going to pc.

Bambi I have a note 3 4.4.2 NC5, TWRP is great recovery, however I is use Philz custom CWM recovery here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860 once there click on this link http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition and select "hltespr" for the sprint version. If you already have TWRP, you can still switch the recovery using odin in download mode and flash over TWRP. It's personal choice I find CWM easier to use.
