[Q] custom kernels for galaxy s3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all,
i have recently rooted my device and want to install a custom kernel.
the problem is that I am running the latest firmware for the galaxy s3 in the U.K (I9000XXELLA)(android 4.1.2). and because of this I cant find out what custom kernels are compatible and which aren't. so it would be a great help if you could help me by...
1. is the ninphetamin3 kernel compatible with my firmware
2. what other kernels are there that are compatible which allows you to over clock the CPU of your device
thanks in advance for any answers and suggestions you may post and looking forward to hearing from you .

Uhm, what? I don't see that problem at all. You have an I9300? All the kernels from this forum section are compatible. Some of them are for samsung-based ROMs like yours, some for CM-based. It says it in the first post.

thanks but what i meant was what kernels are compatible with my firmware because some are only for ICS and I want to know what kernels are compatible on my firmware and I am not sure if the ninphetamin3 kernel is compatible with jelly bean.

All current kernels are compatible with JB AFAIK. Nimphetamine is outdated and doesn't support JB.

Siyah or Perseus would be real good bets...

[Q] Is this possible?

Hi all,
I did a quick search and but didnt find a direct answer anywhere, I only found that the current stock rom is running 3.1 and the update to 3.2 hasnt been rolled out in the UK.
My question is, if you have UK model Galaxy Tab 10.1 16/32gb wifi only, can you flash a custom rom to upgrade it from Honeycomb 3.1 to 3.2? Or do you have flash a stock 3.2 rom from a different country then flash a custom rom? If it is possible, will I also need to flash any new kernels or would they be included in most of the custom roms that are available? Many thanks in advance.

You can flash a custom Rom directly. No need of flashing a stock Rom in between as you said.
A Rom contains kernal also. Some will have stock kernal and others custom kernal.
I would suggest you to try Galaxy Task Rom. It have Pershoot's custom kernal also.
Thank you for confirming this for me.

You've been around for a while... Please adhere to forum rule #1, and search before posting. There are currently a limited number of GT-I9100G ROMs. But they are out there, search for them.
I9100G and I9100 firmwares, ROMs, and kernels are NOT compatible with each other, due to SoC/chipset differences. If you have an I9100G, do NOT flash an I9100 firmware, ROM, or kernel, unless you want a broken phone.
And no, ICS (Android 4.0) is NOT out yet for the I9100G.
lol...go join i9100G fb group XD gt few custom rom

Yes if you search the thread for Chinese ICS for I9100G there's a link their for downloading Chinese ICS ROM.
Unlucky for me though I could not get a complete download. Could be my internet connection.
Any body know where I can download I9100G_4.0.3_rom_ZCLP5_ICS from another link? I need help.

There is an entire section of the forum dedicated to i9100G development. There are a number of threads both for custom ROMs and stock.

[Q] Custom ROM for Galaxy Note DXLP9

Hi there,im new here.
Im using Galaxy note DXLP9
is there any custom roms available for me?
my baseband is N7000DXLP5
kernel is 3.0.15-N7000DXLP9-CL551076
Build number is IML74K.DXLP9

Yes, there definitely is. All ROMs built for the N7000 are compatible with your device.
WARNING: There is currently a brick bug affecting the N7000, so please read this before flashing any custom ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633943
Afterwards, you can look on this page for all the custom roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633943
Keep in mind to follow the directions exactly so you won't brick your Note.
Also, baseband doesn't really matter too much...

[Q] XXELLA KERNAL Info!!!!

Hi guys,
I have a pebble blue 32gb S3 running on custom ROM jellyBAM - the latest version with cm kernal.. I would like to know if i flash XXELLA kernal via odin directly to this ROM without bricking it or do i have to go back to official ROM to get XXELLA update.. Also many people are trying to downgrade from XXELLA to old kernals...Why is that.. Does XXELLA truely fixes the EXYNOS bug and the sudden death issues?
Thanks
You are completely confused - CM kernels and JB stock kernels are not interchangeable for one thing. ROMs, Bootloaders and Kernels - read up a little.
Respectfully but strongly suggest you stick with what you currently have... based on your current experience level.
This should also be in the Q and A forum - and for Pete's sake lose the multiple exclamation marks (!!!!!!!).
It's kernEl.
But you're indeed confused, seems like you are talking about the bootloader, not the kernel. You can flash it via Odin and some people think that it fixes the sudden death. The exploit bug, on the other hand, is kernel - related, and most current kernel have it fixed

I don't think there's one reported case of a SD for a 32GB model. Stay where you are....

[Q] Moving from i9100 to i9100G (chinese)..common doubts

HI guys,
Due to an undesired dead of my previous i9100, i'm probably switching to a i9100G, which I'll get borrowed from a friend for a few months. It's 100% the chinese model.
After a bit of checking, I've found that it's not an Exynos model. Does this mean i9100G gets official full CM10.1 support? TI chipsets have all the source available, right?
If I want to install ROMs, any CWM ROM for i9100G will work, right? The ones I can't flash will be official samsung roms for i9100G international, right?
Thank you!

YES, its TI-Omap processor on that I9100G for u.And all Custom rom's meant for I9100G will wrk on it
This is great news! I couldn't find the official thread for CM10.1 for the i9100g, could you point it for me? I'm mostly interested in a JB vanilla experience, maybe with a modification to allow the camera to store pics in the SD and also allow mass storage, but that would be it. Oh, and stability...I had so many crashes with my i9100 on CM10.1, and camera/3D issues. Do you have any recommendation?
Thanks a lot!
EDIT: Huh, nevermind, now I found the CM10.1 thread. Still, any good vanilla recommendation besides CM10.1?
EDIT2: Another question better to ask to wiser people: I'm going to receive this 9100g running android stock 2.3.x chinese version, how could I change to international JB bootloader?

Thanks for the info! HOwever my concern isn't about finding an international JB ROM. I think there needs to be some kind of previous flash in order to make it work on a 9100G chinese version. Is this correct?
Thank you!

previous flash of what
Not sure, that's my concern. I believe you can't just odin your way to international stock JB from a chinese stock ROM, you'll need a way to turn your 9100G international (I guess it's related with some kind of tag string in the bootloader or similar).
