I keep seeing 320dpi roms and they are usually touted as a battery saver. Can anyone help explain how the lower dpi works?
The dpi isn't causing the battery saving, its everything else.

Then why do people want the 320 dpi? Larger fonts so its easier on their eyes or something?

320 is actually smaller than the stock 440. Running completely stock, the UI can seem huge to some, like myself. So I prefer 320 DPI. Much smaller.

I think I understand now. The dpi is not referring to the physical screen's dpi changing in any way, it's referring to the rendered fonts, meaning they will be smaller on the screen.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Yes. What the phone thinks is 1 inch is actually 2/3 of a inch so everything is smaller.

I was wondering the same thing myself but, i have to admit that i dont really like the smaller everything, i wish these roms let you choose like an in between size

No because the G S screen is wider than the x 10

4 inches long. Has nothing to do with width

Screens are measured corner to corner. Even if they have the same screen size (4"), unless the aspect ratio is the same the actual length and width are different.

Then which amoled screen suits the x10? wat about nokia e7?
I never got these kinds of ideas... It would be more trouble than it would be worth. Also, you would have to change more than just the screen. Drivers, kernel tweaks, etc.... would all be necessary for you to actually take advantage of it

It would be nice. Or i can find someone who does the job.
Why would you want a different screen than what is on the S2? I dont know of another mobile device that has a better looking screen than our, or one thats really even that is close to a sharp!!!
Idk. Just not Hd like the iphone. Still it is alright...

Put them side by side and you'll see that while the iPhone wins for resolution and clarity, the SGS2 far exceeds it with contrast and colors.
Tottaly agree... I don't see the point in replacing the screen anyway what do you need that high of a resolution for anyway?

Should have waited for the nexus or went with LG's 720p res phone. Also i work with a lot of iphone fanboys and not one yet has said they like their screen over mine
Screen Adjuster app lets you change red green blue plus contrast and brightness. I use it and it works well.
I use LCD Resolution app. Tw launcher isn't compatible but launcher pro and go launcher works great!

Samsung phones are highly proprietary and don't respond well to changes. Even using a non OEM battery can cause problems in some cases. What don't you like about the display? I think its pretty nice.

Personally, i like it around the stock one (getting one soon, played with it a bunch of times). But, when ics comes around and cm9 ill be pushing it into tablet mode so i can do tab apps like quickoffice and such which are better in that mode.

Could be due to high resolution. Most of the apps images are build for standard resolution.
Lack of high res apps might be one of the reasons but yeah the phone has 720p screen and 16m colors !

true...but if the resolution of the image isn't there, it's not there notice the pixelation as well on those examples? They just don't scale well...
Exactly, as well as some apps are just not written for this screen resolution
like Photobucket.

It's not an issue in the phone. It's an issue in the app using a low-quality image.
Your 2 year old desire does not have a high enough resolution or color depth to show this, but if it did, you would see the same thing.

I'm actually more concerned with why my screen looks so different from kdadone's. Same phone and same application.. His pic looks at least much more acceptable than mine.
Does using the root image from development section affect anything in terms of 'display driver' that renders the screen?

I have exactly the same as you have. I think his is the same as well, just resized to a smaller version. Think the resize smooths it out a bit.

I was wondering if there were any good boot animations for the Nexus 10. I have searched XDA and found ONE for the Nexus 10. Even other sites that have boot animations are simply upscaled from the Nexus 7, which are quite poor in quality on a WQXGA screen. If anyone has any good boot animations, it would be awesome if you could post them here! Thanks!
P.S. If anyone has a HQ version of the AOKP boot animation (the one about initializing swagger), I would be much obliged!
EDIT: Figured I'd add the boot animation I mentioned.

It is hard to get a boot ani to look good at our resolution and be smooth... I think he did an awesome job. The first one he sent me was like 24MB and he got it down to 6-8.. Our stock one is like 5 lol

What about the first one? The one that is heavier. I'll check when I get home :good:
The big one is full screen, the smaller one is scaled down about an inch smaller all around than the screen, I like the bigger one... Both get a little choppy right before it boots

Like boo says they are both a little choppy at the start but I found the bigger stayed a little choppy whereas the smaller one smoothed out.

I think it is worth mentioning that the down-scaled one does not expose ugly square edges. :good:
There's a couple of other things I can do to try to get the animation smoother...I can render the scaled down version at 18fps instead of 24fps...and to make it full screen I can change the desc.txt file so it'll stretch the image and scale it up...not sure if that'll cause a bit of loss in image quality. What you guys think?
