I bought a new Xperia U and I want to root it.
Can anyone advise what should I do? Update now for ICS, or do the root as it came from the factory.
Depends on what you would like to achieve by rooting. If you are planning to install custom ROM, better option is to unlock bootloader following the steps provided on sony website. If you are looking at apps requiring root access like titanium backup, try ready2root

Hi.
I'm running my R800i with updated 2.3.3 (i used SEUS). My bootloader is locked (i think, because i bought the device from amazon, with no branding).
GingerBreak, SuperOneclick, zRoot, etc. aren't working.
Is there a way to root my device without losing all installed data/apps? I spent lots of time for configuring and customizing my phone.
As of now, if you want to root you have to unlock the bootloaders and flash a .img file through fastboot. Both procedures, and actually your question, are explained in thorough detail in this subforum, multiple times. You won't lose your data.
The reason i was asking is that somewhere in the forums i was reading reading that you can not unlock the bootloader on unbranded devices. I cant find the link anymore.

Unlocking the bootloader will wipe your device, so you can't simply flash the system.img because your data will be wiped before hand.
Two methods
Method 1
Backup using Titanium or Mybackup Pro
fastboot unlock, flash system.img
restore apps via titanium or mybackup pro
Method 2
Use flashtool to downgrade phone to 2.3.2 (dont flash userdata.sin)
root using gingerbreak, apply OTA update (DO NOT DO THIS IF BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED) and then you will be rooted on 2.3.3
Method 1:
Titanium won't work without root, or does it?
Method 2:
So when i use the flashtool to downgrade i can choose what parts of the device will get flashed?! I can downgrade without loosing settings, apps, data?!
I dont think that OTA is available in Germany, or from my Provider?! I had an Xperia X10 Mini before i got the Play, and never saw any OTA-Updates (i had never root or custom images on the X10 Mini). I always had to use PC Companion or SEUS.
Will SEUS work too? I did my 2.3.2 (with root) to 2.3.3 upgrade with SEUS and was able to choose either upgrade (apps/data will stay), or complete flash (factory-reset incl. upgrade). I choosed upgrade (apps/data will stay) but root was gone.
If OTA is not available for me, i have to choose Method 1, but then everything is "gone"?!
Edit 2: Forget it I just did it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119074&page=2 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090&page=4 helped me out.
I didnt wipe anything or "clean" my system. I just did the downgrade. After that, i got 1 issue. I always got this message: "android.process.acore has stopped". Google said that this is an issue with synchronize the contacts, etc. But i didnt freak out I just installed GingerBreak, did the root, then the OTA, and after OTA everything was fine again. Now i have full rooted 2.3.3
android.process.acore wurde unerwartet beendet
This has probably been asked before, but I can't find it.
I am not new to rooting and CFW, I run them both on my GT540, but I am new to Samsung and flash counters.
If I choose to root my phone, but not install CWM just yet, if I need a warrenty claim would I have to reset my flash counter after I unroot? Just for a lil advice, I want to root.
Also can someone link me to the best method for a fast root, rather than root and CWM, I can install the latter later when I decide to use a custom rom.

The 0.62 can not be routed thereby advise you to replace the kernel by kernel 3.0 Rage, you will root perfectly, you can find it here in the area of development.

Hi, i have to buy a new smartphone, i need a lot of Storage memory, easy root and unroot process with possibility to reset to stock and send the device for warranty, good game performance and compatibility, i'm thinking Google Nexus 5 32gb, Xperia Z1 or Xperia Z Ultra.
I read that on Z1 and Z ultra users can't move app to sd without root, will they implement this feature?
How does the google against rooted and unlocked device, there is a way to return stock, or obtain root privileges without unlock and touch anything, with all stock and continue receive ota?
Previously i've rooted my n7105 with framaroot, no counter flash, with this i was able to unroot easly with app, receive ota and restore root, without touch anything of stock, i'm looking for a similar experience device.
Thanks to all in advance!
Hi!
I have the SGP311 with the 4.2.2 Version of Android. Back then I rooted it using the tool VRoot (i think that was the name).
As all I wanted was root for TiBackup I left it at that. Stock ROM, some modifications through root access, but I saw no need to go further.
I would now like to update. OTA does not work, either because I am root or because the bootloader unlock (which I think happened during the root process).
There are so many guides out there, some contradictory or rather relying on going from certain versions to the newest.
What is my best bet?
Unroot and Relock, OTA update, then re-root? Is there a Guide to that?
Or how do I get a recovery on there easily? Guide?
Then assuming I have recovery on, what do I flash. Sony has grown on me, so I am happy with a stock rom or something very close to it, if I can root it for my mods.
What is the least dangerous way to get this tablet up to date?
Thanks for your help!

Vroot would not have unlocked the tablet's boot loader, so are you sure it is unlocked? And have you tried using Sony PC Companion to update the firmware? I was going to recommend trying to use Sony Mobile Update Service, which I preferred over PC Companion, but it appears Sony stopped supporting it.
