I want to buy Galaxy S3 in a local store.
I can ask whatever ROM I want (they will install it for me).
Before I'm buying it, I need to verify one thing which is important to me.
I understand that if I have an original Samsung ROM then I can get an operating system update by the internet only - when it being released.
My question is, when Samsung will release the Android 4.2.x version for the S3 could I get it on my device by the internet?
Maybe I would have to install the official Samsung ROM for 4.1.x and only then get the update?
Thank you for your help.
Either u get ota update.
Or u use kies.
Or odin easiest method.

There are a few things that you need to know about Samsung updates:
1) Yes, Samsung will give you updates. You can update via the official Samsung KIES software, OTA (over-the-air), or through an unofficial ODIN software.
2) Samsung will never give you the latest updates as soon as they arrive. You will have to wait up to six months for an Android update.
3) Samsung will discontinue updates for phones that were released around 1.5 years before the new update is released. For example, if you buy the Galaxy S2, you will most probably not get the new Key Lime Pie (which will be released later this year). Similarly, for the Galaxy S3, you might not get the Android update scheduled for a 2014 release. You will get these updates if you buy a Nexus 4, on the other hand, or if you choose to install a custom ROM such as Cyanogenmod.

Hello everyone,
I got Ace for my wife and I know sh*t about Samsungs (I use HTC) I noticed it has old Android version. Now, what are the mothods of updating with Samsung? Are there OTA updates as with HTC or you have to download rom from somewhere and flash it with cable? Also, what is the latest version (is there Gingerbread?) and where to find it?
Thanx a lot
Cheers,
D.
here are the latest rom developments for galaxy ace you may want to read it so you'll know which one is for you.

Hi guys
Can anyone tell me if I have a Tab and have not applied the TW-update(still on vanilla android), will I be able to get ICS when it releases or do I have to wait for Samsung to release their update?
Yes, you will never get ICS if you don't apply Touchwiz. This is because the IP address of the registration number will conflict with the binary of the update MD5 sum.
Just kidding, but a silly question demands a silly answer. Yes, you can get the ICS update, but if you're waiting for the OTA update, it will come from Samsung and probably have Touchwiz baked in (and will probably not happen for a few months). Get a custom ICS ROM when they become available.
Thanks for the reply
My wording might have been a bit off/stupid.
To clarify
If I don't apply the TW-update (keep vanilla android) will I be able to apply ICS when Google release it (sometime soon hopefully) or will I still have to wait for Samsung to do their tweaks first
or
am I dependent on Samsung either way
i think you will probably get a ics ROM sooner in one of the forums of development. Otherwise you will have to wait for quite some time...
Seeing how utterly corrupt the last OTA i downloaded from samsung (the 3.2) was. I rooted and installed a custom rom, and damn it was worth it. Even if samsung pushed out a ISC early, i'd still not download it from them.

Google doesn't support Samsung devices. Google provides Samsung with Android, but Samsung pushes the updates. Samsung will probably modify the update with Touchwiz before they send out the OTA.
I'm new to this forum & to android systems. This is my first android device.
I bought a Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 (wifi)GT-P7510 recently.Since I could not find my language on it I rooted it .But after I installed tiff files by replacing the existing one/s I couldn't boot the tab.So I had to use a backup(given on the rooting package) that has been saved on my tab. As a result now I have a rooted tab with HC 3.1 . I want to have 3.2 which I had when I bought the tab. I cannot get updates since its rooted.I cannot return to stores bcos its rooted.I cannot sell it for a reasonable price b'cos it has an older version.
Could someone help me please either to unroot in 3.1 or to updagrade to 3.2 (rooted) or to android 4.0
Thank you
Details of my device:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 wifi (GT-P7510)
Build number HMj37.UEKG4
Kernel version:2.6.36.3
I think the answer most people would like to give you: use the search function!
But since I'm in a good mood today.. go to sammobile.com, register and go to the firmware page, search (!) for "p7510" and get the firmware you desire (version/country). For the flashing part, well.. let's just say you can find that out yourself, maybe there's a guide on the same site as well.. (could it be?)

thanks for your advice.
I checked for the firmware of my samsung galaxy tab 10.1 (UEKG4)
I could not find the firmware .It was bought in The Netherlands.

Well, for The Netherlands you should take the latest firmware for Europe (or Open Europe, don't know the difference, just take most recent). After you flash that, you'll probably get XEN as your code.
I mean the device is a year old now and no WW-release of ICS-rom from Samsung in sight. Is it time to move on a either root my device or buy a galaxy note 10.1?
'WW'? And you don't need to root to use Odin to flash another regions ICS rom.

Hi,
I have just purchased a Wahoo Fitness Bluetooth 4 device to use with my Galaxy Ace 3. I believe that the Ace has bluetooth 4 capability (all of the specs that i see for it show that it does have BT 4.0), but im starting to think that i need to update from the current version of 4.2.2 to 4.3 in order to get it to work.
I don't want custom ROM or anything like that to be honest, but it appears that my network (EE uk) are not rolling out updates for this phone to get it on to 4.3 or higher.
Is there any way i can get a 4.3 vanilla rom onto this phone?
Thanks
Mark

You seem quite confused on what constitutes a custom rom. If you're trying to replace the stock Samsung software with vanilla android - that's about as custom as you can get without replacing android with a different operating system. But there are no official updates to 4.3 for your phone, so the only way to upgrade would be via a custom rom like CyanogenMod.
